A word from Dos Perros
We're unlike anything else in the Triangle.
Dos Perros offers fresh and truly authentic Mexican cuisine, an extensive beer list, and carefully chosen wines. Our house-made aguas frescas (horchata, hibiscus, and more) are delicious by themselves or in several of our innovative cocktails. And we serve it all in a warm but upscale environment.
And for groups of up to 50, we offer a warm, cozy, downstairs private dining room, perfect for private parties. Our 60" high-definition flat screen adds to the possibilities; think business meetings or presentations, movie night, or that big game.
Ideally located, we are downtown, just a couple-minute walk from the Durham Performing Arts Center, making us a popular pre- or post-performance restaurant destination.

Diner Reviews
  • "We have eaten here about a dozen times. We are rarely dissatisfied with our food but we have noticed that our table service has been disappointing lately. Our hope is that the staff will work the kinks out and return to previous standards."

  • "Dos Perris has come to be one of our favorite restaurants in Durham. We love the food menu, and the drinks are outstanding. We always have a great time there. The service is reliable and the whole place is run very well."

  • "Dos Perros has good food anytime, but Taco Night (Sun. and Mon.) is fun, inexpensive and yummy. Add a $5 classic margarita and you are set. My favorites are the shrimp, and fish tacos. My friend from Denver, said her favorite was the mixed veggies and she "would eat tacos every night if she could get tacos this good." Want more than tacos? Burritos and platters are also offered."

  • "The food was delicious, fresh and plentiful. We had the classic margaritas and loved them. I would definitely go back."

  • "Loved the vegitarian/vegan options and the "make your own margharitas"! Wonderful option before a show at DPAC."

  • "good restaurant for finding something different - an upscale, authentic Mexican restaurant. Lots of large tables for seating and interesting decorative dining place. However, the price was a bit on the high side for me. The food was good but not worth the price."

  • "This is not you "normal" Mexican restaurant. The menu is really interesting and unusual with lots of dishes. The stuffed trout is my favorite but I have been branching out and every dish so far has been fine."

  • "Fresh ingredients and a creative interpretation of Mexican cuisine, coupled with professional and prompt service, always bring a smile. Children in our social group especially enjoy taco night. One can clearly taste blue agave in the excellent margaritas. Viva Dos Perros!"

  • "I'm a fan of real Mexican style cooking & when I heard Dos Perros took on a new chef, I figured it was time to give them a good look. I made a reservation through open table & went with my family (2 adults & 2 kids under 12). We arrived a few minutes early and were promptly seated at our table which was in the courtyard outside, which is a cozy little patio area for great outdoor dining. Chef Paul came out & said hello so I took the opportunity to ask him to make for us for whatever he was his favorites to make- wow did he not disappoint! We had a great sampling of everything from apps to desserts & the 'ritas were among the best I've had in some time. Had a great time to go along with a great meal!"

  • "Second time at Dos Perros, 1st time for lunch. The food here is slightly upscale Mexican that aspires to be known as cuisine. Watered down and less tasty version of standard fare. Interesting bar with tasty drinks using house-made mixers and juices. The service is consistently inconsistent. Sometimes doting and overattentive, then suddenly too bust to check in, inattentive to things like empty glasses. Like most of Durham, simply not professional service at all. My advice, seek out one of the amazing real mexican restaurants in town, the drink won't be as interesting, and the napkins will be paper, but the food will be much better, the price much less, and you will feel like they actually value your business."

  • "One of my favorites! Food is always delicious and we try many different dishes."

  • "Taim and slow service and temp cool enchelladas were not worth of the price ;$18-20 for a mexcan entry....I expect just out of oven/broil dishes from the kitchen with enthusiastic service. It was okay but not a great dining experience."

  • "The menu listed dishes that are not found on the typical Mexican restaurant. The taste of the food was excellent. In addition a small plate of home made hot sauce allowed you to make the food spicier if you wish. Portion sizes were variable. Some dishes seemed large, but a few were quite small."

  • "A friend and I dined at Dos Perros after attending an evening event in Downtown Durham. What was meant to simply be "dinner", ending up being the highlight of the evening - what a find! My friend, who grew up in Madrid and is an excellent cook, and I both enjoyed artful use of spices; the the Chile de Nogada was excellent."

  • "We've been to Dos Perros a few times, but the previous two were on the disappointing side. This time, dinner for six on a Thursday night was excellent. It's very casual, but fun. All of the mains we tried were excellent. None are huge - you'll probably want at least two courses - and don't expect a taco, tamale, and enchilada combo plate - this isn't that sort of Mexican restaurant. I had Chile en Nogada - a picadillo stuffed poblano chile. Excellent. And their Mexican chocolate ice cream - really excellent! We'll be back. Either we had bad nights before, or they've improved, but this was a great meal."

  • "Our first visit to Dos Perros on Taco Night. As expected everything was delicious. My Sangria was excellent, rice and beans and fish cooked perfectly. Our server that night was not as friendly and outgoing as others have been in the past, I got the feeling he was a little frazzled all night and only stopped by just long enough to ask if everything was going ok. That said, Dos Perros is still one of our favorite spots in Durham to eat before our shows at the DPAC."

  • "Dos Perros is rightly considered one of the stars of the burgeoning downtown Durham dining scene. A light, airy ambience unusual for a Mexican restaurant. The menu and preparation are also top notch for the genre. Sunday and Monday nights features taco night, with a reduced but still excellent menu. Recommend the pork Carnitas tacos especially."

  • "Absolutely delicious food. I've visited Dos Perros for dinner and brunch. For dinner, I think it's a both a romantic spot and good for a lively evening. The flavors of the food are wonderful, the drinks are well-made, and the price is affordable. I'll definitely be coming back."

  • "Taco night menu includes other item. I had quesadillas that we're excellent and prepared like no others I've had. Even the salad (greens, apples, pomegranate dressing) was outstanding. We sat on the patio that offered some shade. go!"

  • "With so many restaurant choices in a town that is proud of being a destination for foodies, I was not expecting an inedible meal at Dos Perros. DPAC, friends, and family recommended it for a special meal with a visitor from Houston. We could not eat our veggie tacos until my friend requested sour cream and cheese, which helped not only the burning spices but also the flavor. Thanks to my friend we finished, but did not enjoy, our meal and experience. I deliberately mention that my friend is a Texan so it would be clear that we aren't just wimpy about spice. Ugh, this place was definitely for the dogs."

  • "I dined here a few times. I considered them a couple notches above the typical Mex joint, offering more interesting, well-prepared and upscale menu items. I was very let down this past Sun. First, the menu was limited to nearly only tacos of various kinds (not interested, I can get tacos/burritos at any Mex place). I ended up ordering mixed green salad w/goat cheese; and the lamb enchilada (1 of 3 non-taco entrees). The salad was a handful of flat/old greens and a tiny piece of cheese. The pomegranate dressing nearly non-existent. The enchiladas were VERY ordinary with hard/overcooked edges...all served by a lethargic waitperson. Drinks were good. I wouldn't mind the $95 bill for 2 if satisfied, but Taco Bell would have been just as good."

  • "I've been to Dos Perros on several occasions and it is always excellent. Great food, unique drinks (the ginger margarita was so refreshing on a hot night), and friendly staff."

  • "We gave this a shot after reading an article about new restaurants in Durham. We had no wait for seating on a Friday evening! My mom, husband and I all had margaritas (each tried a different flavor), which were delicious and ranged from $9-$14. My stepdad tried the Mexican Logger beer, which he enjoyed. They provided bowls of tortilla chips for the table to share, as well as a unique tomatillo salsa that packed a medium amount of heat without overpowering the flavor. We all enjoyed our entrees, and while the menu wasn't extensive, we liked that it gave a range of non-traditional options while still remaining true to Mexican fare. Small space, good furniture, good colors. It could use a little more decor in the main dining area."

  • "We parked at the DPAC, walked to Dos Perros, had a great dinner and walked back. Safe, convenient and super tasty."

  • "Dos Perros's new menu disappointed us at first, but now they seem to be back to their former excellence (still miss the old cucumber margarita, though--the new one is nowhere as good). Excellent service and great specials."

  • "The food and service were impeccable. The menu was far more than the standard Mexican restaurant fare. However, after the restaurant filled up (our reservation was for 6:30), it became quite noisy and difficult to converse. But overall, an excellent choice for dinner and we plan on returning soon. "

  • "We love Mexican food and have been surprised at the lack of quality options in the area for vegetarians. Dos Perros is one of the better spots, but don't, don't, DON'T get the chile relleno. Two words: too bland! And, I love good vegetarian chile relleno. The other vegetarian option, however, was excellent. I think it was enchiladas. The chips/salsa/guacamole were great. Love the spicy cocktails. Nice out on the patio. I liked the tres leches cake--not super leche-y, or rich. Overall, a solid choice."

  • "Dined at Dos Perros recently and was very impressed. The service was solid and friendly. The food was excellent. We had guacamole (chunky, fresh, and vibrant) and empanadas (savory, light, and delicious) for appetizers. My wife had the Cochinita Pibil as her main (which she loved and of which she took home 1/2). The pork was well prepared and shredded and the beans and rice were a welcomed cut-above the norm. I had the Trucha Rellena which the waitress recommended. It was spot on. The fish was cooked perfectly and the sauce played off the fish and vegetables extremely well. We also sampled a few of the tequila libations that were quite good. All in all a superb meal!"

  • "This was our second visit to Dos Perros. First time was phenomenal. This time, not so much. We will be staying away from Monday Taco Night. Too limited of a menu and the food did not taste that good. Our server was not attentive and we had to get up to find him and pay our bill. Pretty disappointed."

  • "Had al fresco dinner on Taco night. Great setting for dining outside (though we recommend not sitting back close to Bull City Burger due to air conditioning noise). The dinner was delicious. Barbacoa tacos were fabulous, chile relleno memorable. House-made Habanero sauce was special accent to both dishes. Habanero margarita was very, very spicy - actually diluted with house margarita. Great dinner!"

  • "I love their burritos and tacos available on Sunday and Monday. Food was terrific but burritos were a little messy, too much liquid. Our waiter didn't know anything about their beer list and generally was not very helpful. "

  • "I am generally not a fan of Mexican food. But the taco special and the $5 margarita special on a Sunday afternoon at Dos Perros before a performance at near-by DPAC May have changed my mind. Excellent food and great service. We will be back."

  • "Our group of 4 travels to Durham for the Broadway series...and enjoys trying those restaurants serving brunch. After a couple of dinners at Dos Perros, we were thrilled to see they now serve brunch....our first trip was excellent: tried four different items and loved them all. This will become a regular stop in the rotation before next season's shows."

  • "Loved everything we ordered. Service was a bit slow. Felt like we were often looking for the waitress for one reason or another. Is a very tight restaurant and noisy, not for an intimate dinner, but good for a fun night out. "
