A word from Dos Perros
We're unlike anything else in the Triangle.
Dos Perros offers fresh and truly authentic Mexican cuisine, an extensive beer list, and carefully chosen wines. Our house-made aguas frescas (horchata, hibiscus, and more) are delicious by themselves or in several of our innovative cocktails. And we serve it all in a warm but upscale environment.
And for groups of up to 50, we offer a warm, cozy, downstairs private dining room, perfect for private parties. Our 60" high-definition flat screen adds to the possibilities; think business meetings or presentations, movie night, or that big game.
Ideally located, we are downtown, just a couple-minute walk from the Durham Performing Arts Center, making us a popular pre- or post-performance restaurant destination.

This is not your typical Mexican restaurant. The menu was filled with so many delectable choices it was hard to choose. The four people in my group all chose a different item and all were delicious. ' The restaurant was quite busy--we were very glad we had reservations and were seated immediately.

Open for brunch on Saturday, I came for lunch, so the menu was more brunch fare. However, the choices were great from sweet to savory. My friend had an egg dish and I order soup because I wasn't very hungry. It was all delicious! The service was good-not too much, not too little attention. I would definitely recommend Dos Perros!

We made a last-minute reservation at Dos Perros which happily was available. We decided to have dinner there following gallery hopping on the Third-Friday Art Walk in Durham. The food was very good as always. Spicy without being overpowering, great layers of flavors from the seasoning to the sauces. And yes- the Habenero Margarita is my favorite! I have to have one when we go there. The service was wonderful - I wish I could remember our servers name because she was pleasant, informed and helpful. A wonderful evening.

the service felt rushed, the waiter seemed to be lingering in anticipation for my party to complete our meal, in order to give our table to the next in line. Additionally, the noise level was high, it was difficult to communicate in the group. However, the food was delicious.Although rushed, at a fundamental level, I enjoyed the night.

My boyfriend and I visited Dos Perros this past weekend, and the whole experience was wonderful. I love the warm atmosphere. The food was great, but the drinks were better! I highly recommend the Pumpkin Cinnamon margarita. The service was also wonderful, with the perfect level of attentiveness. We've been several times and never had a bad experience. Love this place!

Dos Perros was not quite what we had imagined it would be. Authentic Mexican, yes. In terms of variety, not so much. I'll admit I lean toward the more tex mex kind of Mexican food, but I purposely picked this restaurant because I wanted a more authentic experience. Unfortunately there were only a couple of entrees to choose from per type of meat, so for example, I had two or so choices if I wanted chicken. I kept wanting to turn the menu over, but kept being sadly reminded that the entire menu covered only one side of a page. I guess when you have less choices, it should make for a quicker selection. My friend felt much the same way as me, but we ordered and made the best of the evening. The entree I selected was good, but not great. In my opinion, food is a little overpriced. But our waitress was fabulous and the drinks we ordered were great, so it turned out to be an overall good experience. The tables did not seem so close until the restaurant was nearing capacity and the table next to us became occupied. Then it was difficult because the close proximity made conversations much less private. All in all though, we enjoyed ourselves but will look to broaden our horizons for more sampling choices of authentic Mexican food.

My first visit to Dos Perros was nearly 5 years ago, and it was fabulous. Finally made it back for a pre-concert dinner this week and it's still amazing! Fabulous food, great ambiance... the service was adequate and the least compelling part of the experience. I'll definitely be back! Try the house margarita and the Camarones a la Veracruzana... a huge amount of large shrimp in a sauce with green olives, capers, and some kind of pepper (guajillo?) that gave it some kick. Salty, smoky, spicy, delicious.

The chef is a master at capturing the essence of true Mexican cuisine (of which there are at least 8 fully developed across various regions in Mexico) and blending them into unique dishes. This makes it a one-of-a-kind Mexican food experience born in Durham. Awesome! I would know as I was born in Mexico. The staff is super-friendly and accommodating. An overall great experience the four times I've been there.

Hadn't been to Dos Perros in a while because I cook a lot and when dining out there are so many great restaurants to choose from. I will definitely remind myself to put it on my more frequent rotation list. Great wine and drinks options. Great vegetarian options. I had the Chile Relleno. Visually it is a work of art. The taste is so delicious you want to savor every bite and eat it fast at the same time. Absolutely delicious. Mexican traditional and nouvelle cuisine at it's best!. Really enjoyed and recommend. Make a reservation for dinner or you won't get in. It's popular for good reason.

Poor experience the first time - decided to give it another chance. Noise level over the top (energetic?) - had to yell through my entire dinner. Tables too close together - the guy next to me swore through his whole meal. Waiters squeezing by our table constantly. Food unexceptional for the price. One entree overseasoned, the other bland. Warm beer.

We chose this restaurant due to location prior to attending a show at DPAC. We will definitely come back. We received great service from Carley (excuse my spelling). The Habanero margarita was extreme hot (not for the faint of heart). The meal was paced nicely. The temperature of the sides could have been warmer (we saw another patron return their plate due to cold sides). The flavors were well defined. Wish we would have had room for dessert. We look forward to our next visit...and we will be bringing friends!

Superiror and attentive service at this fun downtown spot. Food was above average but a bit pricey for Mexican in such a casual atmosphere -- even by NY standards The guacamole is very good if you like it creamy. The salsa on the table was a welcome treat. The service couldn't have been lovelier and the staff more willing to please. We enjoyed a duck dish, a shrimp entree and a chicken meal with goat cheese. The portions were large and easily shareable.

We went for dinner before a show at DPAC. We were seated at a corner where the waitstaff was hustling past all the time. Our waiter was cold and brusque. My wife enjoyed her meal (chicken mole) and likely would have rated it 4*. I had a carne asada lamb that was described as a chipotle mole but did not have any mole taste. The lamb was tough. The beans and rice were lukewarm. I had to get a snack at DPAC before the show.

My wife and I have had dinner here twice in the past month, both on Friday nights, both with little advance planning. At 2 or 3, one of us will text the other. "Dinner?" "Sure! Where?" "2 dogs?" "YES! I'll make the reservations." And, with a quick trip to Open Table, our evening plans are securely underway. The food here is great (though the tastes vary between entrees!) Spices are just right - fresh, never overpowering. Service is just right. About the time I'd think "I need more water" the glass would be filled. We'd start to get tired of the chips and guac, and the entrees would arrive. While it's not the tour de force that some places in this foodie town are, it's quietly consistent at providing better than average food every time.

The food is very good and often new items are introduced on the menu. My wife wanted a dish that included green vegetables, however, there was only one entree that included a green vegetable. She ordered the chicken dish, which would not have been her first choice, because it was the only entree to include a vegetable.

One outstanding dinner and four times slightly-above-average. Unfortunately, last week's dinner was disappointing, again. I ordered the Stuffed Trout, which arrived with little attention to plating. The fish was covered with so much sauce that you could not even tell what it was. The crab stuffing was almost indistinguishable from the fish, which was slightly overcooked. The "crispy skin"? Not crispy. The accompanying veg consisted of huge, bland pieces of red pepper and eggplant. Hardly a spice or interesting seasoning to be had, which is shocking in a Mexican restaurant. The evening was saved by the nicely spicy habanero margarita and the excellent service. May try again; always after the holy grail of that one great meal.

I did not find any filling in the tacos. The grouper in the taco was cut into small pieces and fried. They were so small you really couldn't tell if it was grouper, most fish tacos use a fillet. The shrimp in the tacos were few as well. I ordered the tres leche cake which was very old. It must have been made earlier in the week. The cake was crumbly and stale with the milk/cream on it. I have had the homemade and restaurant made many times in California and this was not even close. The service was good as well as the prices. I would rather pay more and get better quality.

We brought two friends with us after having had two nice evenings previously. This time, the service was REALLY slow, the food poorly cooked (overdone crab cakes, bad chicken soup with gristle, very small main course portion for $19.00, etc) Very disappointing. Embarrassing after all the anticipation. New chef, off night, not sure. But won't go again any time soon.
