Diner Reviews
  • "It seemed to me like they were spending more focus on the music than anything else. The hostess could not handle the crowd at the door and didn't give much priority to people with reservations. It seemed like Happy Hour drew a big crowd but the restaurant wasn't even that crowded before we sat down. The food was fine. I wish there was a little more attention to making the dishes creative or unique. The rice and beans for the table was mostly beans and not very warm."

  • "I dont know which was worse: the faux mexican food and nasty cheap margarita mix or the overall attitude of complete indifference"

  • "The restaurant exceeded our expectations with the food and the service. It is more than you average Mexican restaurant. The menu was solid and the food was really enjoyable. The main dining room is in a basement but was fine, the food and service made it very worth while."

  • "Dos Caminos was highly recommended by a friend so I decided to book my husband's b'day dinner here. While making the reservation, I had asked them to bring the candle with the dessert. When we checked-in, we loved the ambience of the place. Big and nicely lit up with the lovely wooden lanterns, it was just the place I had in mind. The hostess was very sweet and friendly. Food was great. I'm a vegetarian and my choices are usually limited, but the tacos here are to kill for. This will be my go-to Mexican spot in NYC now:) Then, we ordered dessert and I was worried that they may not bring the candle..but they did!!!:)) it was a little surprise for my husband and it brought that million dollar smile on his face:) Love this place!"

  • "we used to really enjoy this restaurant. But, tho the drinks and the gualcamole are still great, everything else is mediocre. The surf and turf special had a few pieces of dry lobster, basically turf without the surf. Salmon special was not good. Salad good. Decor and restrooms are beat up, needs an overhaul."

  • "We arrived 15 mins before time to see 4 booths empty. The hostess proceeded to set us up at a table far back. On requesting we be seated in one of the booths, she declined, saying (all 4 of them) were 'reserved' by people who 'should be walking in anytime now'. Well, we made reservations too, and we were there- but they won't seat us because we didn't request booths specially. We weren't asked if there was an option to choose- so we didn't specify! Anyway, we actually stood and waited to be seated for about 15 mins past our reservation time! We made another reservation at 8:15 requesting booths, but the manager told us that might not be honored b/c of 'availability'. Let me remind you there were still 3 open! The people never showed up btw."

  • "The menu goes beyond just tacos and offers items like smoked brisket enchiladas as well as delicious simple grilled fishes and wonderful salads. The guacamole was fresh and there is a full bar menu. We had excellent service on a busy Friday evening."

  • "I was a bit apprehensive about eating mexican food in New York City. But as a recommendation from a friend on a good date spot I tried it. I have no regrets. The food and drinks were GREAT! Also great atmosphere."

  • "If you wanna go to happy hour on the impression that margaritas are $7 as advertised, but get charged $12.50 when the bill comes, Dos Caminos is the place to go to! I can't believe I was overcharged & ripped off like that.. Never coming back here again.."

  • "Food was just ok - disappointing. Only saving grace was their guacamole."

  • "Great food, great ambience, only thing was a waiter that seemed aloof and missing for a lot of the night. But I think he was just a bad apple. Rest of the place was awesome. Going back."

  • "My friends & I had a great time for my birthday. The waiter was super nice, I hope I get him again! However, the guacamole was way over priced, $24 is ridiculous. Besides that, my overall experience was AMAZING!!"

  • "We usually order from this restaurant so we like the food. We decided to go to the restaurant for a change. It was not a calm dining experience. From the dj to the tables of patrons trying to talk over the music it made conversation almost impossible. The bar service was slow. I ordered a second drink before my entree which only came once I had finished. We couldn't get out of there fast enough."

  • "Park Ave is my favorite Dos Caminos restaurant. The perfect spicy fresh guacamole, great tacos, and of course the best margaritas."

  • "Had soft shell crab taco. Very good and a surprising creation. Spicy guac delivered as appetizer. Amusingly my path from table to restroom offered three separate opportunities to end up in the kitchen following the directions given."

  • "Really enjoyed the food but the host sat us without checking us in and the waiter was flustered."

  • "While I visited several timers before because of the the nice menu, the service this time was really sub-par...the server was flip, devoid of any real concern and wound up tossing the check on the table before we left. Understanding anyone could have a bad day, he should not take it out on patrons..."

  • "I have been to Dos Caminos several times over the past decade. Hadn't been for a while, and now I am not sure why. Food is really good. So is the Sangria. Service was great as well. It is a fun spot- good for groups but great for dates as well. Highly recommend. "

  • "We visited Dos Caminos for an early dinner on a Sunday and it wasn't very busy, but the food was very good. They offered a brunch menu which had enough choices to pick from. I would have liked to see the dinner menu. Nice casual atmosphere."

  • "I went here with two friends for lunch and the meal was very good. The appetizers were good, especially the empanadas plátanos. Very creative. The gelato and tres leches for dessert were very good as well. "

  • "Food was ok but nothing to go out of my way for. After having read a number of reviews, I thought this place might be ok. Definitely not the place to go if your looking for authentic Mexican food. The guacamole was the best part."

  • "We didn't like the menu change - a lot of great dishes for what we were coming before are gone. Why?!"

  • "Delicious food. Small portions for brunch (I wasn't full but at least I had room for dessert.) Surprisingly wasn't packed for Mother's Day brunch. We were the better dressed family also (too many casual shorts and t-shirts for outings with mom). Only complaint/observation: the complimentary brunch drinks were definitely weaker than the second round of paid drinks. Of course we customers notice. Overall: Good. Would go back to see what dinner and night scene is like."

  • "The food was very good, the margaritas and sangria were excellent, as was the service. This location on Park Ave. is our favorite because of the good booth seating for two people. "

  • "There was nothing special about any of the meals that my party of three ordered. The food was nearly bland. I wouldn't recommend this place. "

  • "We have always loved Dos Caminos haven't been there probably in a year. I was disappointed that they don't make the Quacamole at your table anymore. That was always such a nice touch making it has mild or spicy as you'd like and very fresh. The menu is new it's much smaller selection but the food was very good. Overall were happy with the food just notice the changes. "

  • "Two people ate the shrimp quesadillas and both got violently ill. Expensive and not worth it. I will not eat here again or recommend it"

  • "We arrived 0.5 h early for our reservation and did not have to wait. We were seated straight away. Our server was exceptional. She was very knowledgeable about the cocktails. She made excellent suggestions for the appetizers and entrees. She was very attentive to our needs. She was very friendly and made us feel at home. The atmosphere was just right. We thouroughly enjoyed the evening and will definitely go back."

  • "Everything about this place was amazing. The service was seamless, the food delicious. My only issues was with the bathrooms. They were filthy...like a night club bathroom. Urine on the seats, toilette paper on the floor and over flowing out of the trash cans. I felt like I stepped out of this amazing restaurant into a seedy night club."
    Dined on 5/3/2014
  • "Our server was very good, knowledgeable about the menu and always right there whenever we needed anything. We got the traditional guacamole to start which reminded me of the resort in Mexico my husband and I stayed at during our honeymoon - very good. We also got the taquitos and the Taco Tour. Everything was very tasty and we split the brownie sundae for dessert. My only two criticisms would be that the food came out a little too fast, almost feeling rushed. Our server did not rush us out though, it was just that the food was out almost within minutes of us ordering it. The other was that the brownie sundae should really be called something else. There were 3 small fudgey squares but I wouldn't call it a brownie sundae."
