Diner Reviews
  • "Such a great first experience at Dooby's! The strawberry cocktail with root beer liquor was amazing. I enjoyed the ramen and the peach cobbler was out of this world! Highly recommended. I can't wait to go back."

  • "The food was terrific, but too few choices. The desserts and coffee was top notch. Counter culture coffee was the best."

  • "When we arrived we were told that the kitchen had not calculated correctly its food supply orders. One of the main offerings--and signature dish-- was not available because there was no beef for hamburgers (apparently it was a surprise to the chefs). This left but two items as a main course on a Saturday night--both with starch--rice or noodles. Additionally, in very small dining room management permitted a large group of young men to celebrate a bachelor's party. Needless to say the yelling and accompanying noise were overwhelming. Despite gentle suggestions that management ask the group to calm down, nothing occurred to moderate the noise."

  • "Food was good, great atmosphere, awesome place to have a quick bite to eat with friends. We just had a bunch of small plates before running to the bar, but the massive bowls of ramen were very tempting. I had the spring soba and it are awesome! Friends had the Asian steamed buns and Dooby burger and they said they loved them and definitely want to go back. By the way, our server Nathanael, SUCH a cutie pie! He was so sweet and charming, helping us answer any questions we had about the menu. Adorable! This was my first time eating at Dooby's for dinner, though I head there regularly for coffee. During the day, their cookie assortment and small plates are always nice and refreshing. Love you guys!"

  • "Out of many listed items on the short menu. Food was inventive but terribly small portions!"

  • "We booked a spot for 10 people and they were very accommodating. The only issue was that they do not serve happy hour in the adjoining dining room. It seemed a little arbitrary and I wish we had known that before coming. Otherwise, the food was really good and the prices weren't too bad. After several appetizers, drinks, and a main course the bill was still not much more than $30 per person."

  • "I love Dooby's. I love the burger. I am disappointed that the menu has changed a bit. I loved burger night on Wednesdays but I'll survive. Great cocktails too."

  • "I ordered the crispy polenta with roasted vegetables which was delicious. My only negative comment would be that this appeared on the dinner menu rather than the appetizer menu. I am not a big eater but the portion was tiny for a dinner; consisting of two very small triangles of polenta, two tiny roasted carrots halved and a drizzle of parsnip puree. At best, I would have considered this an appetizer or small plate. My friend ordered the burger and said it was actually the best she had ever had. It looked delicious and came with a nice side salad of arugula and citrus. We both had desserts - I ordered the "damn good pie" which was actually quite nice and my friend ordered the bourbon pecan pie which she thoroughly enjoyed. "

  • "I've been to Dooby's twice for dinner, and the food, drinks, & service were very good both times! (Caveat: If possible, avoid sitting at the long, narrow community-dining tables with the tall, uncomfortable stools.)"
    Dined on 4/26/2014
  • "We've been a few times and the food is always great. The menu is unique and always changing. We really needed a place like this in Mount Vernon. The brick and concrete interior does make the place echo so the noise levels can be little high when it's crowded or if you are sitting by a large group."

  • "Burger was perfect, handmade patty deliciously tore away and melted in your mouth. Definitely going back to try all the appetizers!"

  • "Dooby's is a great idea that needs a bit of buffing to make it shine. The seating is just not cohesive or inviting. The bar area, consist of these terribly uncomfortable high square stools that have been paired with rectangular high boy cocktail tables that are lined up end to end banquet style. There is no actual bar seating or not much. The dining area is so small and cramped that unless you weigh 10lbs soaking wet, you have to apologize profusely to the table next to you if you wish to get up because inevitably some part of your body or clothing is going to brush their table top. Hard to enjoy good food when your comfort level is zero! "

  • "The menu is interesting and inexpensive, the drinks are good, and the coffee is great!"

  • "The dinner menu at Dooby's is small, but everything we had was delicious. Only one entree for vegetarians, though it was phenomenal."

  • "The menu is very limited. With that said, each item we had was pretty darn good. And the cocktails were not bad either. Their "dining room" is just around the corner from the communal room, which was very loud. This is not a "first date" kind of a place but more of a place you go with established friendships. Overall, our experience was good. I would not rush back, but I can see us certainly returning in the future."

  • "Attentive wait staff, friendly hostess, fabulous food, reasonably priced, high energy, beautifully designed interior space--what more could you want?"

  • "I made a reservation and received a table in the back that felt private enough for some good conversation. The noise level was just right and the atmosphere was very calm and trendy. The dinner menu has limited options as they were a breakfast cafe that just started dinner, but what they have is well made. The waiter we had was present, but didn't interrupt much."

  • "Stellar food. City price for city/ fusion creations. Delicious burgers; cooked actually at the wellness you request (unlike most restaurants in baltimore, which overcook). Highly recommend the drink, "Manny D"."

  • "This was the second time we went to Dooby's. The food was great, the old fashioned was superb. We made our reservations just a little while before arriving so we had to sit at a community table which was not a big deal except the seats had no back which makes it hard to sit for long periods. I was fine, but my partner was uncomfortable and had to move a chair from a different area. After that he was fine. All in all it was very good and we would go back."

  • "Our reservation had 8 of us sitting on stools at a "common table". Not comfortable and not what we wanted or expected. We left!!!"

  • "Double date before a movie - ordered most of the appetizers and drinks, all pretty impeccable. Baked wings were particularly good. Kimchi fried rice with shortrib was the easy entree winner, tasted everything but the burger and it was all really nicely done. Desert was a bit of a cockup; first they forgot to bring it (although they did bring some very nice coffee) and then they brought the wrong desert for the other couple. The creme pie was very good, the rice pudding was acceptable, although I don't even like rice pudding. Overall a very good meal, we will be returning."

  • "hmm, first time here was a success. still have a hard time saying the restaurant's name without cracking up, sorry... parking can be a bear..$11.50 for barely two hrs in the lot adjacent to the restaurant is a little steep, no street parking on a Fri/Sat night.. the night we went was still restaurant week. 3 course menu for $20 was a good deal, but portions were accordingly small. Food was very good. loved all the choices. service was spot-on. will look forward to a return visit, but will try to find on-street parking.."

  • "Baltimore kind of missed the Asian fusion food movement that originated in the Pacific Northwest in the late 80s. Dooby nods to that sensibility in a fresh, current way. The menu is small but better to do a few dishes well than an extensive menu of mediocrity. The offerings are varied & well-executed... Ingredients with an Asian bent -- kim chi, curry, sriracha, chili paste, cilantro, fish sauce, lemongrass -- are paired in unexpected ways with ingredients you might not expect. Deviled eggs bursti with chili flavor and a bit of crunchy chicken skin; quinoa-arugula salad is anything but boring with its bright citrus avocado dressing & sweet potatoes. The edamame come bathed in a mouth-watering chili garlic sauce. Big flavor, cheerful."

  • "We went there Friday night, to try out this new spot in the neighborhood, and it was also restaurant week. We got there on time, got seated in relatively reasonable amount of time, ordered food, but we didn't get our food for 30 mins. The place was packed and I understand there was a big group ahead of us, but it was getting to the point I was so hungry that I could walk over to the coffee bar and grab some biscotti. Would been helpful if they had some bread or crackers. Beer flight was interesting, I liked the decor and plates, but dining area was a bit too tight. I felt like I was squished into a corner. I have no complaints about the food but maybe faster kitchen and more room in the dining area would have made this experience better."

  • "We went to Dooby's for the first time during restaurant week with 6 adults and 2 babies. I feel that if a restaurant can do well during restaurant week, when things are pretty crazy, it's a good indication that they'll be really good at other times. Even though it was pretty busy and noisy, the staff were nice, the food was great and we have a lovely time. I'll definitely be back again at a less busy time."

  • "This was our first experience at Dooby's. I had not been able to access the menu online, so was a little surprised by the meu offerings. Nothing seemed to appeal to me except the miso salmon, which is what I and my friend both ordered. It could not have been better! A really splendid dinner. Wine and beer we had to accompany the meal were also fine, and the wait service was very friendly and helpful. Coffee and dessert conitnued the impression of the rest of the dinner. A first-rate evening at fairly reasonable prices. I do not require a great ambience to be able to enjoy a god meal, but so far this new restaurant is lacking, in my opiion. But it is obviously designed for a young crowd."

  • "My fiance and I went for restaurant week. We both enjoyed our choices: edamame and wing appetizers; quinoa salad and kimchi pork w rice and desserts (both "damned good pie" - a creme brulee pie). The flavors were unique. The quinoa salad was amazing: smoky flavor combined with smooth avocado and other good flavors. The service was attentive (i.e. water always filled, I got more hot water for my tea easily) although the pace was a little slow. We will definitely go back. I kind of liked the simple menu; I don't have to feel "guilty" about ordering the quinoa over and over!"

  • "Our only complaint was that it has a VERY limited menu. Would have like a few more choices....no specials the night we were there and at 6:15 they had run out of the soup of the day."

  • "As a relatively new establishment, I'd have to say that Dooby's is on point in terms of food, service, and atmosphere. Manager/owner is a polite and down-to-earth guy who is constantly looking for feedback to improve the dining experience for his customers. It's interesting how this cafe-restaurant has really fused to innately different experiences (cafe and restaurant) to create something unique and fresh. Props... Also, save room for dessert. It'll be worth it."

  • "Known more as a coffee spot, we checked out their new space and had a great dinner. Not a huge menu, but everything looked good as was good! Food was excellent and well presented. The beer list was also very good. And plenty of cocktails to choose from too. The Salmon, the Thai Curry Pot Pie were both excellent and the burger actually looked really good, I will be sure to come back for that. The "damn good pie" was amazing too, basically creme brulee in a pit with a good crust!"

  • "this is a great addition to Mt Vernon -- a coffee shop/eatery with a friendly inviting atmosphere--wine list needs expanding and the beer list although good needs some Scottish or Belgium ales or porters -- having Tito's is a definite plus!!!-- menu could be a little more varied but overall we loved it -- a party of 6 was seated immediately and we all enjoyed the meal especially the Edamame starter -- we all would come back again either as a group or individually"

  • "Pros: Great tasting food and atmosphere with friendly staff. Great for special occasions. And Phil is great! I love studying there too (when they allow laptops). Cons: Very pricey for the amount of food you receive. Spent around 30 for a dish and a couple of beers which did not fill me up. I don't know If I would do dinner there frequently."

  • "All around we had a wonderful experience at Dooby's (the kind of experience that makes you want to keep ordering delicious treats), but there were a few kinks that need ironing out. Mainly the "host" who was supposed to seat us for dinner totally ignored us when we walked in, and the one person who acknowledged our presence kind of gestured us back to the dining room, but when we got back there we were totally ignored. It was a weird, "Do we seat ourselves?" situation. Finally we spoke to a server who directed us back toward the entrance to be seated by the "host". Aside from that, everything was WONDERFUL! Great vibes, great food, our server was a sweetheart, and the beer selection was awesome (We got a flight of 5 and it was perfect!!)"
