Don's Pomeroy HouseOur special placeFor many years Don's Pomeroy House has been our favorite special occasion restaurant. We have celebrated many anniversaries there and have always been pleased with the food and the service. This year was special because we celebrated two anniversaries there. In April we celebrated our 50th with a lunch on a Sunday along with about 50 family and friends. Then this past Friday evening we wanted time for just the two of us so we went to Don's to celebrate the 56th anniversary of when we first met. They made us feel like very special guests and, as usual, the food, the service, and the ambiance were all outstanding.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA special lunch w/ Mom and daughterThe scallops were superb; the succotash not so much. Beurre blanc with dill sauce didn't seem to have much dill flavor. Kendall Jackson chard went well with scallops. Mom's 80th birthday lunch was the occasion and the server was wonderful, bringing out an eclair for her. Wanted to sit on the patio but the weather was iffy. All in all a 4 star event. We were seated in one of the dining rooms and loved everything. We will definitely go back to try the Pub and the outdoor patio. I made the reservation after finding Don Pomeroy's on Open Table. I wanted to bring our group to someplace "nice" and "local" to say "Thank you" for helping me on a big project! It exceeded my expectations. Our anniversary was acknowledged by the hostess and our waitress. Our waitress, Mary, was tremendously accomodating and provided wonderful service. The wait staff was the most attentive I have seen in ages, filling our water continuously without being obtrusive. Mary also took our picture and brought out our celebratory dessert, the grand eclair. All parts of our meal, especially the dessert, were fresh and flavorful. The asiago-mushroom bread pudding which accompanied it was amazing. The lamb was cooked perfectly to medium as I had ordered. My dining companion ordered the Angus New York Strip. He definitely enjoyed that as well. We each started with the Pomeroy House Salad (mine as the menu states, his without onions). This took me back to my childhood. We took my mother here for Mother's day every year and I remember that salad very well. It is amazing how food can bring back memories, ya know? We ordered desserts as well. 2 styles of cheesecake. Best whipped cream ever! The food quality is consistent, though on this visit, my lobster was overdone. (It was on special so may explain that). I brought my 2 kids, age 19 and 24 as well. We expect the food to be excellent but what we find that is different is how comfortable we feel while we are there. We feel at home and very relaxed. A new salad has been added to the menu, a slightly grilled romaine heart with bacon & pretzel croutons which is absolutely off the charts. Very simple but a wonderful addition to their already great salad selections. So, the stakes were high. Turned out that we made a wise choice!
Our appetizers and entrees were excellent and beautifully presented. The wine list offered a good selection at reasonable prices. However, the highlight of the evening was the service. Michael was helpful, attentive and very accommodating of the leisurely pace we requested for the evening. Best of all, when we mentioned that we were celebrating our anniversary, he presented us with a beautiful dessert (compliments of the house). He then took our picture, which was enclosed in a lovely card for posterity.
