  • "The four in our group ordered steaks. All were chewy. The sides were okay, nothing special. The service was very good. The value was definitely not there. Ruth's Chris and Morton's are much better, the meat is so tender and flavorful. Wonder if the prime beef really was prime."

  • "I read plenty of reviews prior to coming. Most were fairly spot on, where a few just seemed negative. Service is great, no question there. Everyone is very friendly and the drinks are good. On to the food, a good handful of reviews bash the steaks and suggest other restaurants.. If you get the filet mignon or variation you're good to go as is the lobster. The porterhouse just didn't do it, compared to other 5* restaurants. So either stick with the fish or go filet and you won't be let down. Can't be perfect with everything! That being said, yes I'd come back."

  • "Our vacationing family were looking for a spot to kick off several days together with a fine dining experience. We found that and more at Donovans! From the formal greeting to our final departure, we had nothing but a wonderful evening. The staff serving us was never far away if needed and this excellent service never seemed to be overdone. The menu offerings had just the right variety and choices of side dishes did not go lacking either. As for the how the food was presented, it is hard to find adequate words. The term of "mouth watering" could be used to describe how wonderful everything tasted. Very ample portions without being overdone. Truly an evening of delightful treats for our palates."

  • "I was born and raised in Chicago, where beef is king. We had dinner one night after meeting friends at the Biltmore and couldn't believe we found a place for great steaks. Recently, we had friends from Illinois stay with and we took them to Donovan's for dinner. Needless to say they loved the food, service, and classy atmosphere. We will come back again and again!"

  • "We went on a Monday night. We took our largest customer to dinner and it was one of our best choices over the years. The appetizers were really good, salads, bread, steaks all top notch. The service was incredible. I don't know if it was just because it was Monday, but they were right there if you needed anything. Great for a business meeting, quiet, old time steakhouse. The kind of environment that business was done in the old days. The only reason I gave it a 4 star rating was I couldn't do a 4.5 star. I haven't found that 5 star yet, still searching."

  • "Took a client and his wife there. Both their steaks we not prepared correctly and when they finally received them, they were like shoe leather. Even though the "prime" steaks sucked and they were way over price, I still tipped our waiter 20% because it's not their fault. I'll never go back!"

  • "We make it here every year when we come into town for spring training. We chuckle every year and call this place "Bush Wood" from Caddy Shack. "what is this the night of the living dead". Although the typical client is 80 and they force you to valet your car and park it 20' in front of you the food is worth it!! Top shelf wine list, a bit over priced but what restaurant dosen't do that. The food is always 5 star in my opinion and I would put them up against any Vegas, San Fran or New York establishment."

If you want to impress your date or a client and let them know how special they are because you are spending 65 on a seafood tower-go here."

What a great dining experience, the filets were exceptional and service was attentive and friendly. We have found a gem. When a restaurant does not charge for sides like potatoes and vegetables I am all in."

  • "The atmosphere is amazing. The food is really good, but a bit overpriced; especially since my porterhouse had quite a few bites of fat in it. I gave the service 4 stars instead of 5 because it was actually "overkill". You definitely won't be looking around for your server in this restaurant, but you won't have any conversation privacy either as someone is at your table every 2 minutes."

  • "We really enjoyed our visit to Donovan's. The lobster was cooked perfectly and was sweeter than any I've had in ages! The steaks were tender and tasty.The beet salad was good but nothing special. The chopped salad was much better. One steak was overdone (med rare+ came our med well) but the manager, without being asked, made it right. A small blip in an otherwise very nice evening. Creme Brûlée was creamy with a crunchy top. Simple and well executed. Cheesecake - also simple and well executed…you really don't need to mess with classics when you do them well. Our waiter was personable, engaging and professional but not stuffy at all. The other servers were attentive without being too much. Hard to imagine anyone not having a good time."

From the moment you enter the parking lot to the reception desk and the almost immediate seating ...you know it's special - friendly and professional - with a 'special touch' that included rose buds on our table.   • "Unless you are in the Donald Trump financial category, Donovan's is probably not going to be a weekly night out. The food, service, and general atmosphere are all top notch, but so is the dinner bill. A 12 oz NY Strip is about $50, and the Surf & Turf (6 oz Filet and 6 oz Rock Lobster Tail) my wife ordered was $75. Everything was perfectly cooked, and exceptional meal."

  • "Donovan's is an elegant, high quality steakhouse with top notch food and very attentive service. If value is a concern, you may want to look elsewhere. My group of three ate conservatively and the cost was nearly $350 (tip included)! But for special nights out or celebrations, Donovan's is a gem. I've been there for a group outing and we used a private room. Make reservations online before your meal. The food and service are absolutely fantastic! If you have the money, it's worth it!"

  • "My husband and I came here for a late celebration for Valentine's Day. I was really impressed and felt so high class. The atmosphere is definitely recommended for couples that want to splurge for a special occasion. I wouldn't recommend this as kid-friendly place it seemed to high class for that but I would definitely suggest for adults and well behaved teens."

Dinner for two and a drink each will easily set you back $150 with tip so be prepared. But it's a great place for an anniversary dinner or to propose to your girlfriend, etc."

  • "My Husband and i were in Phoenix for the weekend and Capital Grille is our most favorite...but decided to give Donovan's a try.The Ambiance is very nice... relaxing and our server Tina was very friendly and personable.. However, I was disappointed in the food... I ordered the Halibut and she explained to me how it was prepared and I did not care for the preparation... So I changed my order... she should of asked me how I would like it prepared to accommodate my request.. I then settled for a Ceasar Salad as my entree and asked for chicken on top... which she said the kitchen could NOT do.. Seriously.. they don't have chicken to put on a few pieces of romaine..."

  • "Normally, if we have a bad experience, I do not review. All was going well until our entrees were served. My husband received the wrong cut of steak. They offered to replace it, but did not offer to do anything about replacing mine or keeping mine warm while we waited, so my husband declined, not wanting to disrupt things more than they already were. No one ever checked on my entree, which was not up to their usually high standards. They removed my husband's steak from our bill, but acted like they were doing us a big favor for doing it. I think they should have done more. Our meal and evening were ruined."

  • "This is by far the best restaurant I've been to in the Phoenix area, without a doubt. It is very expensive and so it was for our special 20th anniversary celebration that we went. The meat, of course is their specialty and is excellent. (I highly recommend the rack of lamb, by the way!) However, the au gratin potatoes are the best I've ever had in a restaurant of any kind. The service is magnificent, as well. When they realized it was our anniversary, before they seated us, they put rose petals on the table......a very nice touch for the ladies.......and we had a complimentary Crème Brulee with a candle on it, which was quite delicious. All in all, a superb experience!"

  • "This is a wonderful restaurant to take your honey to on Valentine's Day! Their service is impeccable and they do a wonderful job of taking care of all your needs without hovering nor being pushy in any way. The food is always excellent at Donovan's and their happy hour specials are also VERY GOOD! If you have a chance to hit the bar for happy hour I highly recommend doing so. Their wine list is vast and yet not intimidating and I have yet to have anything food-wise that wasn't excellent. I'm so glad I live close to this restaurant as it's one of the BEST in the Phoenix metro area."
