Set in the heart of downtown Redwood City, Donato Enoteca offers true and honest contemporary Italian cuisine from Executive Chef Donato Scotti that changes weekly determined by the freshest available seasonal produce. Homemade pastas, wood-burning oven pizzas, meat and fish courses are available, executed in an authentic yet modern way. The menu spans every region of Italy and incorporates artisanal products, such as fresh imported burrata, prosciutto, grappa and olive oil.   • "I wanted to take my wife on a nice date. I looked at Yelp to find the nicest restaurant (by price) in downtown Redwood City, since we were going to see a performance at the Fox afterwards. I was hoping for something romantic -- perhaps with candles and a pristine tablecloth. We dressed up. The ambiance, in contrast with my hopes, was a bit cramped, and there was a moderate amount of conversational noise. Some other patrons were wearing tee shirts or tennis shoes, which cheapened the experience. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. The portions were on the smaller side., and were less adorned than one might find at other nice restaurants. I got the sea bass, and it was essentially a filleted fish and little else."

  • "We came sunday early evening - restaurant was moderately busy. We were seated in mid section near window. The blind was lowered but dirty. My husband promptly rolled it up. Table was set but the bill was still there from the previous occupants? Waited 10 mins before our apologetic server came and took our order. Starters: caponata e bufala and bruschetta di cinghiale - both were excellent. Entrees: Spaghetti al nero di seppia e bootarga was a B - I knocked off a grade as they must have put in one real small squid for the whole pasta. Bigoli with oxtail & asparagus was OK - a bit salty. Dessert - a melted gelato when arrived. All in all - good but like the restaurant put some attention to detail in areas mentioned."

  • "I went her for with friend for lunch and was very pleasantly surprised. The menu has plenty of classic italian options, all with a fine food twist. I had the risotto with pork belly, and was very surprised how tender hte prok belly was, and how fluffy the risotto was. By far, one of the best lunch dishes that I have had a while. Located in downtown Redwood City, Donoto Enoteca has great food, wonderful service, and fine dining for a reasonable price."

  • "It is amazing what is happening in RWC. Fantastic development with excellent restaurants cropping up. The food at Donato Enoteca was very good--not quite as good as what I cook at home, but definitely superior to most of what I taste outside. The Highlights: lamb shank that was butttery and flakey, terrific chopped salad, fine pizza--not the best--but definitely in the hunt. The service was spotty, but the wine by the glass (valpolicella) was fabulous. The grilled asparagus was perfect. Max's meat ravioli was juicy and meaty. Desserts were an afterthout. I would definitely go back."

  • "The carbonara is the closest that I've found to the ones I've eaten while in Rome. They don't use milk or cream, using egg to give you that creamy sauce. Only offered during lunch time, just a few ingredients and it seems simple, they excel at the preparation and execution."

  • "My boyfriend and I tried Donato per the recommendation of a friend who is from Italy and who raved about the food. This truly was a dining experience, we absolutely loved it and will definitely return! The food was authentic and delicious, our server offered great recommendations for wine and each course. I am particular about wine but our server, Tommy, encouraged I try something different as to enhance the flavors of each dish and to broaden my taste for different grapes, I am so glad I did. I can't say enough about how incredible our dinner was, and to make the evening all the more perfect we were able to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather and leisurely sunset. I recommend Donato to all! Do not leave without trying the tiramisu!"

  • "We've eaten here many times so we were disappointed that our last visit was sub-par. Our waiter was friendly and informative, but took ages to take our order. Food and coffee for four arrived at different times. Our table was crowded next to a heavy curtain. I regret not asking to be reseated. I will return because this felt like a one-off. I prefer eating at the bar where we can watch the kitchen action. My favorite dish is buckwheat pasta with mushrooms. I decided to try something new this time and had pasta with artichokes and asparagus. It was tasty but needed more sauce and seasoning. The other people in my party were happy, though not ecstatic, with their meals."

  • "We had the daily special - crab cake / arugala salad and taglietelle. there was a great desert too. it was very good, although somehow the tagleielle was a little sticky. But overall it was very good. The place is pretty noisy, there were several large groups that were quite loud and it was hard to find a quiet table for two. The chairs are not very comfortable, the seats are saggy and need to be redone."

  • "Donato Enoteca is a gem – I wish it was closer to my home! Having the fortune to travel to Italy several times, their food hits a home run. The menu consistently has notable favorites from appetizers, pastas, entrée’s to desserts. I’m choosing not to list my favorites and it would be the entire menu. If you enjoy Northern Italian food, make a point to get a reservation and enjoy. For those more adventurous, sometimes they offer a tasting menu. Well worth the indulgence. Great wine list too"

  • "We were a large group for dinner on mother's day. They seated us in an overflow room that had a different ambiance than the main room, although it was by a nice large window. For some reason, this room had really annoying piped euro pop music going the whole time. The rest of the place did not have this. The food was very good. The appetizers were interesting and fresh (i.e., fava beans), and the entrees were also innovative. I had the buckwheat pasta with mushrooms, and really enjoyed it. The service was not sufficiently attentive. Of course it was mother's day, and crowded."

  • "Came here because of the many solid reviews....left very dissapointed. Literaly, everyhting we ate tasted like it was seasoned with water...nothing else. Had the meat sause pasta, needed to put tons cheese salt and pepper just to have a few bites. Had he osso buco as an entree, more of the same...tasted like it was slow roaster for hours in WATER!!. What a shame, great location and service....the wine was the best part of the meal "

  • "It must've been about 90 degrees outside while I sat, for over 20+ minutes, without being approached once. Amusing in that there were only two other people sitting in the outdoor lounge area. Even more amusing as I watched TWO men cater to the ladies requests. Various wine samples came out, an extra table was pushed up to theirs so they had room for their pizza/purse-all while I watched. Absurd. I even waived "hello" never to be attended to after I received my menu- not even a glass of water in the insane heat was offered!. Food, deplorable. My veal was brought out almost raw. Yuck. To their credit my gf, whose birthday we were celebrating, liked everything she ordered. I can't imagine any great reason that would ever get me back in there. "

  • "Although we've been there previously, never for a brunch. All was very nice. From the kir Royale to the dessert, the cocktail, wine, appetizers and entrées were good. We thought the time between receiving the courses were a bit long, but all were delicious. We'll definitely return. "

  • "Wait staff friendly but not attentive.Mother's Day expected to be a little hectic. First 2 waiters tried to take our orders then no one was responsible for our table.Had to ask for everything. Got up from the table to find pepper for our salads. Forget about getting water refills or another bottle of wine. 3 hours to finish our evening w/o having dessert.They were out of eggplant so they substituted a different appetizer without telling us - they did take it off our check.Several entrees were cold & sent back. pizza was wet & soggy. Sea bass was excellent as was the lobster special.Ravioli was missing browned butter. Staff was were very nice and the place is lovely, but the service was poor and some of the food was not up to par. "

  • "It was Mother's Day and it seemed very hectic among the workers. Our section was not full only 3 tables, yet it took the waiter 20 minutes to come and take even our drink order.He improved slightly over the course of the meal though. They also ran out of dishes....and everybody seemed slightly disorganized. Not the best experience for Mothers Day,I actually never had bad service here."

  • "Hello I am dog lover. I have a dog myself. I was there for Mother's Day and there was a family that brought their little brown Daushound (spelling). The dog peed. It was disgusting, you dont bring your dog to a restaurant and the Manager should not have allowed it. This was the icing on the cake. Our waiter was frazzeld.... I had been here (2) other times, both on a Friday and I was surprised. Then I suggested this place for Mother's Day I was disgusted and I was embarrassed."

  • "The restaurant was out of two items on the menu on a Saturday night. One of the dishes they were out of is one that was highly recommended by the chef. And then, as I sat there, I was rubbing my hand on my seat cushion and came across a straight pin sticking out of my chair. Luckily, I didn't get pricked! The wine list is horrible! All in all, I was rather embarrassed that I took my out of town guests here. I am local and will never return. "

But instead... the back room where they sat us was near a table with 8 kids under 8 yrs old & the opposite side was a table of more kids under 4!! Front & middle sections of restaurant were very quiet. What???"
