A word from Don & Charlie's
Don & Charlie’s menu reflects the kind of fine American dining that has never gone out of style. The most popular menu items remain USDA prime steaks; hickory – smoked BBQ baby back ribs and chicken; prime rib; and fresh fish.

Don & Charlie’s features a comfortable atmosphere with warm wood paneling, banquettes, and crisply white – clothed tables. The star attraction is the veritable sports museum housed throughout the restaurant. It is thought to be the largest collection of sports memorabilia west of the Mississippi. It includes literally hundreds of autographed bats, balls, jerseys, and photos from athletes of past and present. It is not unusual to see celebrity players from every sport dining at the restaurant.

Don & Charlie’s is a Scottsdale landmark with a national reputation, their food and ambiance have been lauded in Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, Gourmet Magazine and dozens of other publications.

Diner Reviews
  • "I only went because some friends wanted to go. The food is just acceptable, still. The baby-back ribs were dry and not very meaty. This time I tried a salad/ how can you screw up a salad. Two of my friends had the chicken and they said they liked it."

  • "Everyone in our party of 4 enjoyed their food and the overall experience. The prime rib, ribs and steak were cooked perfectly. Salads were amazing. The chocolate cake was moist, light frosting very delicious. Our waiter (Jeff) was very friendly, attentive and gave us outstanding service even though he was busy with a very large party. Only critique would be the hostess that greeted us was not friendly and the parlour chairs in the dining room were not very sturdy and a bit uncomfortable."

  • "Wonderful night. For the sports fan, there is memorabilia everywhere. Very good appetizers, had the ribs and chicken for entree- excellant. My server was friendly, helpful and attentive. Thanks to my Open Table reservation I was seated almost immediately, instead of waiting in line with the five or six parties without reservations."

  • "going to Don and Charlie"s is always a treat. They have the best ribs! My only suggestion is that for the first time I noticed we were charged more for certain sides. I would advise amending your menu so that what comes with the meal is clear and choosing certain potatoes or salad is an additonal fee, even bacon on baked potato is additonal and that wasn't clear. Everything else, though was greeat-love the hot fudge sundae."

  • "This is the place were all the Ball Players, Coaches, Past and Present come to dine. Sports Writers and Celebs. all come here to eat and meet their peers. MUST make a reservation well in advance, and Bring Your Big Wallet. Food prices are Not Cheap. Quality is good, but I think there have gone a little overboard on their price levels....."

  • "I'm not sure what all the rave reviews are about as we found the food to be fair - at best. We all had the ribs and chicken combo and while the chicken was good the ribs were awful - hard and chewy. Definitely not the rib experience we were hoping for. With that said, the cheesy garlic bread was awesome! Don't order the banana cream pie - it was seriously soggy. We won't be back. This was a huge disappointment - Lettuce Entertain You restaurants are usually consistent in their food quality but this one is far below par."

  • "This is the place to go for BBQ ribs, chicken, and steak. The food and service are great. If you're a sports fan, particularly baseball, you'll love the autographed memorabilia that COVERS the walls and ceiling of this place. Do yourself a favor and check it out."

  • "We are from Chicago and have been regulars at LEYE and gold members of their loyalty program since the mid-70's when we were students at Northwestern's Chicago campus. We felt this visit to D & C did not live up to our previous experiences. Right from the "bread basket" (aka plate) to the mustard encrusted, aka (greasy panko) to the Chocolate Cake which was similar to Blackout Cake without the crumb coated surface which was heavy and the "pudding-frosting" somewhat rubbery. My husband had the ribs which were good but not impressive"

  • "Like all Lettuce Entertain You establishments, this place is great! Food is excellent, great service and with all the baseball memorabilia, and interesting ambience. A little loud but great fun and food. Will be back, again!"

  • "We were told that there was a large private party so they didn't know how long the food would take. We waited over an hour and the fish and ribs were cold. Our family dines here twice a year. I was disappointed."

  • "Excellent food, service and fun place with lots of sports memorabilia"

  • "If you like sports this is the spot. It just may have more sports memorabilia that most sports museums. The food and service was very good. I had the bone-in ribeye and my wife had the trout special. Both were excellent! We had a calamari appetizer that was sized perfectly. When you come to Phoenix, you must have Don & Charlie's on the list of places to eat. Especially if you are from Chicago!"

  • "I didn't know this restaurant was part of the Lettuce Entertainment Group until the waiter informed us. What a great surprise! The menu is very diverse, portions are very generous, and everything was cooked to perfection. Sports memorabilia everywhere! Definitely make reservations. Will return."

  • "If you are a sports junkie, this is a must see restaurant. What a fun experience to see autographs from people like Babe Ruth to Sandi Koufax to Willie Mays. Be sure to make a reservation, as this place is very popular."

  • "Always a fabulous dining experience. Had dinner there 2X in the past 2 weeks and never disappointed in either the food or staff. Lots of memorabilia to look at and think about memories that they represent."

  • "Tons of baseball/sports items everywhere in restaurant. Wish the lighting was a just bit brighter to see some of the items easier, but was okay. Excellent food and service."

  • "Waiter was attentive and friendly - food came quickly and portions were large (large piece of Hot salmon along with a monster size baked potato with salt/pepper on skin; along with large serving of deli style cole slaw!). Sports memorabilia all over - mostly baseball - could take hours to see it all (on the walls, in cases, on the ceiling, hanging from rafters, etc....)"

  • "Food is very good and the décor is great for sports fans. Service was timely, but waitress failed to mention everything is ala carte including the accompanying vegetables and potatoes, as well as salad. So, your pricey entree consists only of the beef or fish main item. Wine list is also very pricey. All in all the tab with tax and tip is quite high per person. Therefore, be sure to read the menu carefully."

  • "The food is always amazing. The Ribs are a must and definitely a signature item. My husband always gets the ribs. I love their "bbq" salmon, super yummy. I have never had a bad thing on the menu."

  • "Don and Charlie's has been a must stop for our golf, spring training group for 15 years. Every year we note slippage in what was once a special place for food and service. The service is indifferent and the steaks, although good, are a crap shoot as to whether they arrive as ordered. The place is jammed during spring training and its an institution basking in a long past reputation of quality. I think we move on there seem to be many new restaurants in the neighborhood. I am sad to see this place become a victim of its success but when asked I will respond I the immortal words of Yogi Berra "nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded""

  • "We were at the front desk for several minutes before anyone acknowledged us. We had a reservation and we still had to wait over 20 minutes for a table. It was my birthday and we told them that when we made the reservations and nobody even said anything to make the occasion special. The food was excellent but the noise level was extremely loud. I would only go back there on a rare occasion"

  • "Beef ribs were perfect, baked onion soup excellent, salmon prepared exactly as ordered. Only downside was getting seated at 8:15 for a 7:30 reservation. Reservations a must in March."

  • "We dine quite often at Don & Charlie's --we always enjoy the food, especially the ribs and broasted chicken. Everything was great except the chicken this time. The pieces were very tiny and dried out--not at all as we expected. I know it's season but come on! This is not we expect from Don and Charlie's!"

  • "Best ribs in the city!!!!!! Get them Don's way. Creamy cole slaw also great."

  • "The menu was limited, very noisy, slow service, wrong cooking of the food, had to send it back. They said the meat was prime grade, but no way with the stringy gristle and meat texture. Presentation was a plate and blobs of food. The condition of the restaurant was messy and dirty. This place was living off of it history, and people looking at sports memorabilia. Besides that no draw"

  • "You could say this is THE restaurant for sports fans in Scottsdale . . . there are TONS of baseballs to view with autographs, photos, and other sports memorabilia. It's worth at least one trip to pay tribute to all those notable sports figures. Food is good . . . very noisy, but that's what you would expect. Very crowded, especially during Spring Training . . . make reservations well in advance!"

  • "We tried to walk in on a Monday night and would have an hour wait. Decided to make reservations for the next night. Totally worth the wait. Amazing steak, perfectly cooked. There isn't a space on the wall that is free of sport memorabilia. Despite very busy place, the service was great."

  • "The memorabilia everywhere stands out right away. It's truly amazing all of the signatures and collectibles, but everything else falls short. Unfortunately, our group of five had three of the orders taken incorrectly by Jeff. The "kid" sized burger was huge and not cooked to order (medium-rare when asked for well-done). My order of broasted chicken was incorrect (regular instead of spicy). Also my mother in law had undercooked chopped steak. The deli style coleslaw is the way to go, but overall a little depressing."

  • "Ribs were awesome; Sea Bass was perfect; and Ribeye was done to perfection. All food was fantastic as was the service. Make sure you try the coleslaw as it is the best you can have."

  • "Seated within seconds of reservation time (on St. Patrick's day no less). Fun and engaging waiter who was promt in taking drink/food order. Unfortunately our appetizer order did not get entered which came to light when our entrees showed up. Upon realizing the mistake the waiter took 100% ownership, apologized and comped a round of drinks, and got the appetizer to us asap (entrees were sent back and reordered as well). If this was not enough, Don (proprietor) came over to also apologize and said our entire meal would be at no charge. We were astounded and told Don the app issue was not really that big of a deal....to which he responded that accuracy was a super high priority and insisted on comping our entire meal. Wow!! We'll be back."

  • "historically, we don't go to D&C's for the food or the view, but if you're a baseball fan in Phoenix for spring training, you go to Don & Charlies. It's the law. You never know who you might run in to."
    Dined on 3/17/2014
  • "Enjoyed the dinner at D&C, the baseball memorabilia is always fun to look at.. we ordered the trio of filet and was way undercooked. Had to send it back and the twice baked potato was not good. Probably not worth the price, many more choices in Scottsdale for the money.."

  • "The service was unexpected. I haven't been to a restaurant in ages where your glass was refilled before you thought about asking. Dishes were cleared as soon as they were empty but always with a smile and a heartfelt "did you like it?" No one rushed us to leave when we were finished ... and the food was very good too."

  • "Our experience was outstanding! The restaurant is filled with sports memorabilia and childhood memories start flowing the minute we entered. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed. Customers were excited and happy to be there! The bar, on the other hand, was vibrant and rockin'. The food from the bread to the sea bass & ribs - was very good and full flavored. The waitress and staff were engaged and efficient. We had a wonderful experience and will be back."
