Diner Reviews
  • "One of the best spots in Clayton for a business lunch"
    Dined on 8/12/2014
  • "I have always enjoyed the food and service at Dominic's but this time the service was soooo slow. and it was not that busy in there. Also, never said what the problem was or apologized."
    Dined on 8/6/2014
  • "First time dining here. The food was great, but the service was lacking, and the atmosphere was a bit dated. When we arrived, I told the hostess we had a reservation through Open Table and I was promptly advised that they don't do Open Table. Her english wasn't very good, so I am not sure she understood us. But, as I said, the atmosphere seemed like it was from the 1960's, and it took a long time to get a waiter to take care of us. But, the food seemed to make up for it. It was a good classic italian dinner."

  • "The food was outstanding, and very good portions! I had a dish with lobster which was exquisite - in large part because the lobster portions were generous and it was perfectly cooked (not overdone like most Midwestern eateries). Very good service and overall ambiance was great! Very good for a date night. Only negative is that it can get a little loud in the dining area, especially at a table next to the glassed walls."

  • "Loved getting dinner here. The food was absolutely delicious - very fresh and the pasta was incredible! Would definitely recommend a stop in."

  • "My wife and I selected the restaurant to celebrate our son's birthday. Meals were all satisfying and well-portioned. Presentation and service were great and management checked on every table. Valet was courteous and attentive. Very pleasant decor and comfortable seating. I've come to really enjoy this restaurant!"
    Dined on 6/30/2014
  • "Overall, good. However, the toasted ravioli was prepared to hockey puck hardness, and the restaurant was so noisy it was impossible to carry on a conversation across the table for two!!"
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "We celebrated our 21st Anniversary with dinner at Dominic's Trattoria, and it was wonderful! The food was outstanding, the service was fast, efficient, friendly and courteous, prices are reasonable, and we totally enjoyed the entire experience! We have eaten at most of St. Louis' fine restaurants, and in our opinion Dominic's Trattoria is among the very best (Top 5). You won't be disappointed!"

  • "We are from out of town and had our daughter's college graduation dinner at Dominic's in Clayton. The food was excellent, as was the atmosphere and service - a special place for a special occasion!"
    Dined on 5/17/2014
  • "Dominics Trattoria was fantastic. each of the six of us had a different entree, and each thought their's was the best!!"
    Dined on 5/3/2014
  • "The menu was good to start with, but what i really wanted wasn't listed. No problem, the waitress sensed my indecision and simply asked what I would like for my main entree. When I told her, she said, we would be happy to prepare that. That is that something extra that makes a good restaurant a great restaurant. We had a excellent dining experience."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "Enjoyed it very much. The Lobster Ravioli was good but not as good as other items I've had here."
    Dined on 3/24/2014
  • "Food was just so-so. It was obviously a restaurant that is frequented by locals from the neighborhood . It was very expensive for what we had."

  • "We happened to be nearby in Clayton, hungry and wanted to eat before we headed back to our hotel. So, we picked this based upon reviews and availability. The food was excellent. Interestingly, the typical clientele appeared to be "retired" folks", in most cases, retired for a number of years! So, if you're looking for a vibrant bar with a fun atmosphere, this wouldn't be a good choice. If you're looking for a quiet place with good service and really good, traditional fare, it's a nice place to try."

  • "We have been coming to St Louis for 10 years for the dance COMP at the Renassiance Hotel. Every Saturday of the Competition a group of us go to a local place for dinner. This has been the best one to date. Our server was outstanding and the food was fantastic. Clayton has many fine place but the group agreed, this was the best of the best. Thank you."

  • "Food was fantastic. Service was excellent. Interior was nice although it seemed old school, not very modern. Wines by the glass were very limited. Overall though had a great meal and would definitely return."

  • "It has been more than 20 years since we have been to Dominic's in Clayton. We booked reservations on the spur of the moment. We were seated immediately with a view of Shaw Park's ice skating rink. The food was excellent, great fresh vegetables served along with the entree. Extremely tender tenderloin. Great salad, with crisp cold lettuce. While the restaurant was full, the noise level was fine for conversation. We will definitely return - soon..."

  • "Wonderful setting and great food. Service was just right . Variety of wines appropriate. All in all a good place to bring your family or your special someone."

  • "I was disappointed by a couple of things on my visit. First, there was no indication on the website or when I made the reservations that there was going to be a limited menu for Valentine's Day. When we saw the menu, they had taken off all the items we were interested in ordering and they are known for. That extremely disappointed us. My wife ordered the spinach salad and it was oily and flavorless. The bread basket had only 4 small slices of bread and it was not even warm, but the olive spread was good. I got he cannelloni and my wife got the cheese tortellini, which we both thought were good. Finally, I got the ice cream with goldbrick (magic shell) and my wife got the cheesecake, neither that great. We would not go back."

  • "Good food and good conversation. Sometimes it was difficult to hear and I don't know if it was because of the children in. A more adult restaurant. We ate around 7:30 so I don't know why they weren't at home getting ready for bed."

  • "Dominic's is a great little hideaway in Clayton. I'm reluctant to tell too many people since part of it's charm is that it seems to be one of those restaurants whose main diners are in-the-know about it and go several times a week. Good food, reliable menu and great service. The atmosphere is quiet and comfortable. Even when pretty busy, you can hear around your table without straining. The Olive tapenade they bring with your bread is worth going for all by itself."

  • "Dining at Dominics takes one away from the stress of the world. My attitude about life is always so positively transformed after dining here. Thank you"

  • "Food & service were very good. Thought $7.95 for a caesar was a little high & a little skimpy."
    Dined on 1/3/2014
  • "We always enjoy eating at Dominic's. They have a nice space for a party of 8-10, and a varied enough menu to satisfy everyone in this size group -- from vegetarians to steak eaters. Food is very good and service is nice and unpretentious."
    Dined on 12/26/2013
  • "slow, inattentive, etc.. The service was similar to going toJack in the Box. Nothing was timely. plates sat for 1/2 hour after we finished a course. Drinks were refilled once or twice over the 2 1/2 hour ordeal. The food was pretty good. But when you charge over $300 for dinner, you should deliver on all fronts. They hould reduce the tables be 50% to deliver a better overall dining experience."

  • "We were seated promptly and attended to immediately. Attendant was helpful, and the food selection was outstanding. We appreciated that there was no loud music blaring, so conversation was possible. We were not rushed at all - in fact, the service might have been thought a bit slow, but the guests with me did not mind. Would come back again with out of town visitors."

  • "This is our second visit this year. The food is very good as is the service. But the noise levels are terrible. We had a table next to a large group and had trouble hearing each other. The same thing happened on a previous visit only the group next to us was smaller and still we had trouble carrying on a conversation. The place needs some acoustical upgrades."
    Dined on 12/24/2013
  • "Service was slow, given the restaurant was not full. Soup was delicious. Sicilian was below average. Seemed as if the lettuce was wilted from being mixed up ahead of time."
    Dined on 12/23/2013
  • "Nice neighborhood tpe restaurant median priced and nice menu selection. Great appedtizers and salads and lot of main course selections red sauce pastas were oustanding! Great experience!"

  • "We took our family there, including our two year old granddaughter. Food was very good. We had pasta dishes as well as Veal and Chicken. It's great to have good Italian in Clayton. Worth the trip."
    Dined on 12/14/2013
  • "I had the filet with a very nice mushroom demi glace. The tiramisu was outstanding and light on espresso which made my wife very happy. The staff was appropriately attentive during dinner. After dinner the service went beyond expectation. St Louis had its first snow of the season. We had no problem getting a cab to the restaurant but could not get one back to our hotel which was about half a mile away. The owner drove us back to the hotel in his personal car and refused any compensation. Very impressive. We will be back the next time we are in Clayton."
    Dined on 12/5/2013
  • "Overall food was good! Thought the bread service in today's world was lacking freshness and flavor. Service and check-ins was very good."

  • "A trip to the St Louis area between Thanksgiving and Christmas has become a tradition. We bring our three daughters (aged 12, 14, 25) and my sister for Galleria shopping and a Broadway musical at the Fabulous Fox. A real treat of the trip is dinner at Dominic's with a view from our table of the outdoor skaters at the Shaw Park ice rink. The food and service at Dominic's is always outstanding!"

  • "We very much enjoyed our visit to Dominick's in Clayton. The restaurant is beautiful, the service excellent, and the food delicious. Not inexpensive, but worth the very reasonable prices."

  • "Cannot wait to come back -- from the moment the valet took the keys everything was perfect -- service, ambiance, quality of food. I had their special that night -- pasta in olive oil & garlic BUT it also had THE MOST TENDER and tasty lobster ever!!!!!"
    Dined on 10/26/2013
  • "Food was fine, well prepared and presented. Service problem when a wait person began clearing our table before we received our main courses (too long between courses as well)"
    Dined on 10/25/2013
  • "We were a group of 6 women in town for a local wedding. This was one of the few restaurants that had a time and table for our size group so I booked it not knowing anything about it. It turned out that we thought this meal was better than the one served at the wedding the next night! Service was excellent, food was very, very good (most had pasta and really enjoyed it) and the overall cost was reasonable. The restaurant was very accommodating in trying to help us get a cab and the valet was particularly nice to chat with. Overall, everyone in the group praised the choice I made and I was very satisfied with how the evening turned out. I would recommend the restaurant again."
