Diner Reviews
  • "We loved the food, service and suggestions given by the staff of Dominics. It was nice to see the owner come to each table to see how things were. We want to thank Jackie for her Casada dessert we enjoyed for our anniversary. It was delicious! This by far is one of our favs!!!"

  • "Looked the part when we walked in, nice decor & ambiance but once we got seated all that went away. The place was pretty empty but they seated us next to a group of 8 really loud people that did not understand the "inside voice". We had two waiters but it seemed like we had maybe a half of one. Felt like i was always trying to get there attention. Once we decided not to order any wine they pretty much ignored us like we were inconveniencing them. Had to ask for a cocktail menu since they did not offer us anything else. Had Calamari as an appetizer & it was OK but it wasn't any better than i have had before. The main entrees were just OK as well, nothing to write home about. Could have gotten anywhere. You pay for the atmosphere"

  • "From the greeting to the seating to the menu questions to the courses, things just became better and better. Excellent menu choices and selections came timely, heated tableside where appropriate, to accompany antipasto and egg plant parm appetiz the gems in the winelist that emerged from the cellar. We almost made the mistake of passing on dessert that turned out to make this vist truly memorable. Oranges peeled and flamed into a sauce of oranges and liqueurs joined fresh strawberries and icecream that left us scraping our spoons along the bottoms of the serving dish, a ringing percussion chorus to close out the night. Don't miss this restaurant and don't wait any longer for your first or return visit."

  • "I returned to this spot after many years away and it's as if time stood still. And that's in a good way. The menu and food as well as the ambiance seemed to be exactly the same as I'd remembered. I'm sure that they have made updates from 35 years ago yet somehow managed to retain the traditional charm that fits well in the "Hill" neighborhood of St Louis. I had the Salmon Farfalle which is bow tie pasta with generous chunks of Salmon in a pink sauce. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente just as I prefer. The prices are just a little higher than some others in the area but the quality is there. This would be a good spot for a romantic date as well."

  • "We searched restaurant "on the hill" online and found Dominic's. Everything was great -- food, staff, atmosphere and the civility of the other guests nearby. Highly recommend."

  • "I chose this place based off a friend's recommendation. They let my wife and I sit down before the time we had reserved. We ordered the swordfish special and scallops and calamari as an appetizer. The food was delicious and fresh, and the service is friendly first-class. Since it was my wife's birthday, they brought out a complimentary piece of cake. This experience was a good first impression. I'd definitely come back."

  • "We booked a reservation at this restaurant hoping to experience wonderfu Italian food. We were disappointed in the service from the moment we arrived. The staff did not seem to have time for us. The mussels and salmon as appetizers were deicious but the remainder of the meal was disappointing. We felt like the restaurant was overpriced for the service and food. W"

  • "Really tough to get a taxi from this location. Staff was helpful in trying to secure one. But waited at least 30 minutes. St. Louis has lousy taxi service!"

  • "This was my first time to dine here-Yes the food was very good & service was some of the best I've had, but the prices are overall too high to compete. I appreciate good service & prefer to express this in my tips. The pricing on the pasta dishes was too high. This is a shame as it prohibits more frequent visits. Please add some more mid priced meal items on the menu -starting with the pasta prices."

  • "We had problematic service from the time we were seated, except for the young man who kept our water glasses full. Other tables that came in behind our seating were dealt with promptly, had menus and already had wine even before a waiter came by to our table. Finally got bread, which was hard and not very good. We finally ordered wine and our meal, then another guy came and took our wine glasses away. Food was hot and presented nicely. We both ordered veal and it was very good, although pricey for what we got. Espresso and tiramisu were just okay, not what we would expect from an upscale Italian restaurant. The restaurant never acknowledged my birthday denoted in the reservation until I asked when we got the bill. Would not go back again."

  • "This was our first time at Dominick's and the entire meal was a great experience, great food, great wine and loved the decision to come here for our Valentine's day dinner. I ate a small plate of Pappardelle Alla Bolegnese just to try the sauce as well as the Sea Scallops with Dill Dauce. My wife ate the Ravioli Di Ricotta Alla Marinara. I recommend all three. The food was beyond expectations and I enjoyed every bit of it. The service was a little confusing and felt the constant activity around our table was distracting. It was early and slow and I felt they may have just wanted to keep busy."

  • "Took my wife here for valentines day, and have to say we were both disappointed. Food was overpriced and really wasn't impressive at all. We both left saying we wish we would have went elsewhere. Wont be going back here, nothing really impressed us."

  • "Dominic's has excellent food. I am Italian so picky about my Italian food and I love their food. Their veal is the best. Before I retired when I traveled on business to NY, my friends in NY raved about NY Italian restaurants. I always told them they were not from St. Louis or they would not brag so much. My only comment is about Valentine dinners at any of the great restaurants, even Dominic's. I never find the food is as good as a regular night. But my meal was still very good."

  • "The only disappointment came from the valet service not being available because the ice and sleet that had hit earlier in the afternoon."

  • "We were very excited to go to Dominic's, as traveled from Cleveland for a weekend away. When we arrived, we were greeted by the owner. He sat us. Pulled our chairs out and placed our napkins. Our first waiter came to the table to deliver our menus. He never asked for drink orders. He left and returned to take our food order. Again, never asked about drinks. I noticed other tables had drinks other than water. After about 30 minutes, a different waiter came by and asked if we wanted wine. When we stated no, he took the wine glasses away, but offered no other drinks. We had to flag down another waiter to get coffee. The food was good. At the end of our meal, they did bring birthday desserts to my daughter and niece, which was very nice."

  • "My husband and I returned to Dominic's recently. We had been there once before 12 years ago, when we were dating. Our work took us all over the U.S. but we made sure to stop by Dominic's once we got back to St. Louis. It was just as good as I remember. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting STL."

  • "Had a wonderful dining experience with our daughters. The food and service was fantastic. The final "dessert' was the opportunity to hear Dominic sing to the guests in the dining room. He sang a song in italian about mothers... touched my heart."

  • "I have been living in STL for one year after moving from the east coast and have been searching for GREAT Italian food. Believe me when I say this is not it. The food is laughable for the price point They are at. I mean my part of six literally are still laughing about a dish as basic as Chicken Parm! Any chain Italian restaurant blows this place out of the water, don't waste your evening or your money."

  • "We found this restaurant a few years ago and what a great place to go and have a nice dinner. The food is terrific (everything, not a bad item on the menu). And the service is impeccable with a wine list to go along with it. You will not be disappointed."

  • "We made last minute reservations when we saw the open spot on OpenTable and we were undecided on what to do for New Years Eve. When we arrive there was hardly anyone there. We were asked our name in order to find our reservation, they could not find it at first and then finally found it but seemed to have an attitude about it since it was booked online on the day of. The way that the GM acted about this was not appeasing, and put a very bad first impression on my and my fiance. Overall the food was just OK for my taste, service was decent, prices were high and not warranted for what we ordered, but management should have an adjustment before I decide to try this place again."

  • "As always Dominic's is our staple for a great dinner. We have tried other restaurants on The Hill and nothing compares to Dominic's. From the food to the service, everything is over the top. Once again, we were not only greeted by Dominic himself, but he stopped by to wish us a Happy New Year as well as checking on our meal and satisfaction with our experience. Don't miss this fabulous restaurant on The Hill."

  • "This was our first time in St. Louis, and Dominic's On The Hill was widely recommended by friends and the hotel. It was an excellent dinner; the food was superb; the wine list was extensive; and the service was very good, even though the restaurant was full and a large table of 22 people was next to our table - same waiter."

  • "HIGHLY recommend visiting. You honestly get what you pay for when it comes to fine dining and Dominic's went above and beyond to make sure I had the ideal evening for myself and my girlfriend. The food was amazing, the service was stellar, and the atmosphere was outstanding. If you need a restaurant for a special occasion or just want an evening out at a quality restaurant, visit Dominic's (on the Hill). You will not be disappointed."

This wonderful restaurant was open, although quite, on a Monday night so that we could celebrate our anniversary. It has a wonderful ambiance and a great feel.
