A word from Domenica
Domenica is a contemporary and inviting Italian restaurant that creates regional Italian dishes with southern and middle eastern influences. The cuisine combines Chef Alon Shaya's Israeli heritage and love of local ingredients with a menu that reflects his time spent cooking and living in the small towns of northern Italy. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The food was good, not great like in the past. Service was good but not great. Somewhat disappointed in this restaurant."

  • "OMG Previewing the menu prior to eating it seemed a bit confusing. Once we were seated and talked about what we wanted to eat and then seeing other diners get there orders the menu made more sense. We had the aruguloa, beet, pinenut salad to start, then a small portion of the chicken liver oxtail with the housemade spinach pappadrel (spelling) noodles, then the whitee pizza, All of this was melt in your mouth, gourmet quality. Will always go there at least once whenever we go to NO. Waiter was fantastic especially since the place was packed and he had lots of full tables to handle, but didn't miss a beat. Thank Chef Besh for venturing into Italy."

  • "We had a very good meal, but the service was a bit slow and not terribly attentive. Even though we made reservations in advance, we were seated directly in front of the wait staff service area. This meant that they were walking behind us and reaching over and around us during the meal. Not the best. It is quite loud. That was fine for us, but not good for conversation if you had a larger group or anyone with difficulty hearing."

  • "We loved Domenica. Our server, Ryan, was terrific and the food was AMAZING! We had the mushroom pizza and quite honestly, probably the best pizza I've ever eaten. We also shared the cauliflower. Who knew that cauliflower could be this good? The desserts were also fantastic. I'm from Los Angeles and wish there was a Domenica near where we live."

  • "Dining room was bright and loud, thought the wine we chose was somewhat overpriced. We shared the antipasti chef's choice and the red fish entree and both were very good. A good choice and convenient if you're staying at the Roosevelt and would like to dine in rather than going out. Otherwise there are other restaurants in New Orleans that I would prefer."

  • "Loved the Prosciotto Pizza and Fried Tuscan Kale. However, service was terrible. It took over 15 mins to get a wine list. Another 15 mins for waiter to come by to take order. He apologized for delay and said he would go get it immediately. Then went to table of 12 to take their order. Finally came back to our table (with wrong bottle of wine). By this time we were in the restaurant 45 mins. This is totally unacceptable. Luckily the food was worth the wait. Pizza is delicious, maybe we should just get take out next time and avoid the agravation. We will give it another try, hopefully this type of service isn't the norm."

  • "Dinner for Two Three cheese plate - Good, the pepper jelly was awesome Bolzano Pizza- Lacked flavor. Meat was dehydrated dry and it looked like they forgot the rest of the toppings. Gnocchi - Ok, good flavor but some of the gnocchi was melt in your mouth and some was very tough. Service - This was the real let down. Our waitress had a real attitude. She was very short with us and seemed to be upset that we didn't order more food than what we did. All in all, expected more from a John Besh restaurant."

  • "We eat here every time we come to NOLA. Our favorites are the Margarhita and Calabrese pizza. The wines that we have had have complimented the food nicely as well as being drinkable without food. The pizza crust is just unbelievably good and the bread is so fresh. All in all it is a memorable and fun dining experience. We will be back this fall to see the Saints win. Who Dat?"

  • "Loved the Roosevelt Hotel, however I ordered the wrong dish. Have decided I will never again even try any kind of fried chicken. It sounded good with rice flour ( gluten free was good for me). It did not seem crispy and I will never eat fried chicken again - I can not get into the skin. The mix of orange rind, sweet, with rosemary just did not work for me. Pizza looked good, however no gluten free crust. Service was good, not spectacular."

  • "I went here twice over the weekend - Saturday for happy hour with friends, and Sunday for lunch with my family. Happy hour had half-off prices on their pizzas and wine/beer/certain cocktails. My three friends and I shared the proscuitto pizza, roasted cauliflower, and pork pastry appetizer (name?). All were delicious! The service was great - drinks kept coming and we didn't wait long for our food. On Sunday, I had lunch with my husband and 2 teens. We were starving - we had the white pizza and the Quattro fromagio pizza, and the roasted cauliflower for appetizer. I was surprised that my kids liked the cauliflower! The goat cheese sauce was perfect dip for it. Everything was great - nice change from the typical NOLA cuisine"

  • "This was my second trip to NOLA and my second visit to Domenico! The wine and beer selection is satisfactory and affordable. The menu offerings are unique and every dish my family and I have tried have been excellent. Try any one of the pizzas ... crispy crust and creative topping combinations make Domenico pizza the best! Service is excellent and friendly."

  • "Best Happy Hour in NOLA. Make a reservation and enjoy a late afternoon treat or two! Our typical bill is around $32-36 and that is for a pizza, couple glasses of wine, couple beers, and we usually splurge on a dessert because it is soooo worth it!!!"

  • "Am a local- This is one of those restaurants that' always on the local food forums, we just never got around to it - thought we would give it a try before the Opera. We were certainly surprised. It's all one large dining room/bar, completely open. Large, ugly room. When we went (6:15), it was filled with 30-35 y.o. crowd; extremely loud and boisterous. Place smelled like burnt pizza from the time you walked in until left. We were completely over dressed and stood out; the majority of patrons were in jeans or shorts. On line looks upscale, in person, it's just a fancy pizza parlor. Wine list easily 25% more expensive than other restaurants. So - noisy, unattractive, limited menu, quite pricey for what it actually offers. Avoid."

  • "Great little find when looking for classic Italian food that has a little bit of a twist to it. Using unique ingredients that send your taste buds soaring and pizza's that are to die for."

  • "Three of us arrived for drinks and pizza. Loved everything about the food, but the noise level is nuts. Be prepared to eat, not to chat."

  • "Great service - we loved our lunch and enjoyed meeting Chef Alon."

  • "We always get the roasted cauliflower. Usually also enjoy one of the pizzas but this time we just have drinks and appetizer -- the cauliflower!"

  • "Had an enjoyable lunch this past Thursday. I have eaten at Domenica several times in the past. Always a pleasant experience, although at times I do find the noise level a bit too much. Our waiter, Desmond, was excellent and made the visit very nice.."

  • "First of all, happy hour (seven days a week) is what makes it easy for us to frequent this place, with half off pizza, wine, beer. It's close proximity to the Smoothie King Arena makes it a choice spot for us before Pelicans games, and we enjoy the short walk. My advice to anyone is don't be afraid to try anything on the menu - they know what they're doing, and I haven't tasted anything yet that I didn't like."

  • "Tremendous restaurant located in a very upscale hotel. Limited menu on the entrée side but a great mix of pizzas, pastas and sides. Had dinner there our first night at the hotel and ordered up pizzas our last night we were there."

  • "Who doesn't love carbs? We had the smoked pork pizza and small plates of the Tagliatelle with rabbit & porcini, and the Gnocchi. We were hungry but not crazy hungry and we managed to only have 2 slices of pizza left over. Honestly, this was the best place we ate at in New Orleans (better than Stella! but a different vibe too)."

  • "Our server was slower than a turtle! Never heard a word she said because she talked SO low. Always had to wait over 10-15 minutes for a drink..didn't even refill the bottle of water for our table. The food is always amazing!! One of my favorite places in NOLA!! But if your going for a romantic lunch/dinner..don't!! Super loud..and has been everytime we eat there. I only go back for the food.."

  • "Everything John Besh touches turns to gold. We eat at a lot of restaurants in NOLA and this is one of our very favorites! We have been here a number of times and it is an absolute must. John's catering company catered our wedding and we have gone to many of his restaurants. We love everything he does, but this is an inventive standout."

  • "I've been to Domenica many times, mostly in groups of 4 or 6. Every time the food is good, but usually the service is slow. The servers are stood around chatting or later at night getting ready to clear up, but not attending to the tables. Last night we waited so long for the check we went up to the bar ourselves! However, I wish I could remember the name of one girl that served us a few Fridays ago as she was very helpful and perfectly attentive to our table. Now to the food. Pizza is always great. Fried Tuscan Kale is so good that we always wish we had ordered one more than we did for the party. My friend recommended the Redfish on parsnip purée and last night it was fabulous. It's also great for late night dining."

  • "We dined at Domenica's at 4PM. The hotel is magnificent and brings one back to the elegance of the 30's/40's. The restaurant was cleverly decorated to fit the city. The menu was outstanding and appealed to different palates. It was perhaps the best dining experience we had in New Orleans!"

  • "I was in New Orleans for a business meeting and decided to take in Domenica for an early dinner. August is my favorite restaurant in NOLA so I wanted to see what Chef Besh and team had done with a more casual restaurant. The setting, Roosevelt Hotel is one of the best in town. The decor is terrific. The noise level is very comfortable. Adam was our waiter. He was terrific. Lot's of energy and great recommendations. The food---simply amazing. Had the Tempura Cauliflower and the Pickled Beet Brochette. Perfect appetizers. THen had a half-and half pizza. GREAT pizza. I don't know of many places you can have a very nice dinner in NOLA for $23+tip. Great job to the Chef Besh team!"

  • "Husband and I took our 2 kids and took advantage of Happy Hour, which includes 1/2 price drinks AND half price pizza. The food was fantastic for the price. The pizzas are huge and delicious. And the younger child was able to get plain spaghetti, which was an important option. Be sure to ask for a side order of the Burrata (biscuits). I was pleasantly surprised by how kid-friendly Domenica was. The atmosphere is upscale, but it is a loud, bustling restaurant, so I didn't feel pressure to make the kids be quiet as mice."

  • "The menu and food preparation and ambience of Domenica is fine. Service often spoils Chef John Besh's wonderful restaurants. Server attitude and more caused problems this visit. Otherwise, the whole table loved the food and experience."

  • "went to domenica for a late lunch, the food was outstanding but the services was poor. restaurant nearly empty however we had to ask several times to have our water filled, drinks took nearly 20 minutes to arrive and when asked about items on the menu were told by server michael about items on the pizzas that he wasnt sure about the ingredient but the pizza was "pretty good" we should try it. 2 of the 5 at our table ordered soup for starters and it was luke warm at best. would have sent it back but was concerned about the time it would take to order another. salads, cauliflower and pizzas were very good.....not just pretty good. for a john besh restaurant we expected a higher caliber of service."

  • "Get the Roasted Cauliflower, you won't be disappointed. The only reason I didn't give an overall of 5 stars is because the service can be a little slow. Very friendly and knowledgeable servers, but overall food got to the table a little slowly, especially since we were dining between lunch and dinner and were one of only a few eating people at the restaurant at the time. But would go back in a heartbeat, love it."

  • "I was immediately greeted upon my arrival. The hostess was adorable and ready to guide myself and my mother to our reserved table. Our server was prompt and efficient. There were two servers which leads me to believe it is head and lead service. My mother is from out if town South Florida West Palm Beach and was excited to try new food items. The cauliflower was so delicious, the salad with the butter but squash was also very good, a bit bitter but over all very good and the wild mushroom pizza with the oe egg was totally amazing. The dinning experience over all was excellent and I will definitly dine here again. Thank you and your staff for a fantastic lunch, service, and overall awesome time. Tiffany Peacock"

  • "We were two senior couples visiting on a Friday night. We thoroughly enjoyed our food, the service, the decor and the location...the downside is the exceedingly high noise level. We are not hard of hearing but it was difficult to have a conversation at times.Otherwise I would rate this a 5/5...Some acoustical modifications would make this a great experience."
