A word from Domaine Hudson
Described as “one of Delaware's premier destinations for truly appreciating and understanding the dynamics of upscale food and wine” by The News Journal food critic, Domaine Hudson was awarded 3.5 stars (of 4) and recognized as "Closer to Perfection", and has consistently been providing a place for great wine and food since November 2005. Delaware’s first true wine bar, they offer almost 40 wines to taste in 1½, 3 & 5-oz pours. The award winning wines by the bottle list features a broad array of about 450 old and new world wines & 90+ craft beers. Frequently changing menu items allow the chefs to be creative and focus on quality ingredients. Small plate options, provide a perfect opportunity for wine pairing, or guests can simply choose from full size entrees. Whether you are an experienced oenophile or just want to enjoy some great wine/beer, the servers, who all have a knowledge of what they are pouring, can guide you through a memorable dining experience in an inviting atmosphere.

Food and wine were great. It'd be nice if the website was updated a little more frequently. They're three select 3oz. pours for $3 each was a wonderful experience, except the website told us we'd be getting white wines.. and the sever came out with reds. Other than the website mix-up everything was superb. The ambience is that of an old book room, tre cool.

Everything was to our liking. The server was extraordinary, likable, funny, punctual, efficient, and especially knowledgeable. We were a party of 3 on Saturday at 6pm, and scoffed that we wouldn't "be in his hands for the next 2 hours," as we usually do not take this long for dinner. But at 8 pm we left. Food was subtly flavored, with the tuna and scallops being phenomenal. My only complaint was the blandness of my appetizer, the Brussel sprouts. Presentation was beautiful, beyond anything at the beach. I am not a drinker, but the server's choices for my 2 small glasses of wine were super; as was his choice of wine for my wife. The dessert and the cheeses were incomparable. We will return all the way from Dover. Highly recommended!

This is our second visit to this restaurant. Over the past two years, it has substantially improved--especially in terms of food. On the downside, it feels cramped: the tables are small and close together. Overall, however, it is a welcome addition to the restaurant scene in Wilmington, where good wine lists are relatively rare.

The sound level is the only detraction. It was hard to hear over the sounds of the restaurant service and other customers. Otherwise, this was definitely one of the best restaurants we have found in the area. I loved the interior, very intimate and cozy. The noise level just didn't agree with the setting.

Lunch was very good....Selections were flavorful and high quality. I had a salad with fresh trout that was quite memorable. The scallops were also a favorite at our table. We have been to dinner here several times, and enjoy the large selection of wines offered by the glass, as well as a wide variety of cheeses. Meg and Tom are wonderful hosts and pay attention to details.

Dark, noisy and service very unprofessional- waiter could be heard across the restaurant he was so loud.Yet when we needed him-no where to be found. Wine glasses stood empty during the whole entree course. Food rating at 25 from Zagat? It was more like a 19.There is much better for less in Wilmington. Will not go back.

People here enjoy wine; its evident at every table. I found the wine list to be extensive but comfortable and interesting all at the same time. My wife and I enjoyed 3 glasses each by taking advantage of the smaller 3 ounce pour. You could sample whole lot more by opting for the 1.5 ounce pour and working your way through the list. The food was good and nicely portioned. I liked the time they put into the cheese list as well. They have apparently partnered with an importer in NYC so I expect the selections will change periodically. The space is intimate, you can see every table from every table but in a good way.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 5/3/2008
We had their 3 course Restaurant Week menu for $35. The food was excellent but the portions were very small. I wouldn't normally eat 3 courses but in this case it was necessary to feel full. The entree came with no real starch and the vegetables were more of a garnish than a side. At regular prices, this would have made it an expensive meal! The quality and presentation were high just a bit on the small side! We also chose a moderately priced red which was suberb.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008

As a deuce we were seated next to a large, loud party. This ruined the ambience of the restaurant for us, as it was like being back in a typical, Friday-night chain dive. Our server was noticeably quiet and absent from us, which isn't necessarily a problem, but the large table next to us was constantly being served, including wine tips, cheese tips, and discussion of food. I think all servers in the restaurant should attend to their tables in a similar manner. As it was, we saw our neighbor's server three times more often than we saw our own. The food itself was exceptional.

  • What really sets Domaine Hudson
    OpenTable Diner Since 2005
    Dined on 4/29/2008
What really sets Domaine Hudson apart is their wine list and the fact that you can sample it in different size glasses (1.5 oz, 3 oz, 5 oz). A 5 oz. glass is a full portion. The 1.5 oz. option allows you to taste 6 wines without consuming more than two full glasses. I had two outstanding whites with my smoked trout appetizer and two reds, (one interesting, the other truly wonderful) with my lamb entree. The cheese plate option (delicious!) for dessert is a bit unusual for American dining, most generally associated with very upscale restaurants (read "Ritz-Carlton territory"). Domaine Hudson is definitely upscale, but with the special Wilmington Restaurant Week menu, dinner for two including all the wine was only $120 (before gratuity).

The food was very good however they were out of a couple of dishes- one that we would have ordered and the other which we did get although was one of the last of that dish. This was a little disappointing and surprising as we were there at 8:30 which I thought a little early to be running out of dishes. As for our waiter- John- he was fabulous- great at recommending wine with our meal and overall knowledge. The wine selection was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. We will definitely return.

I will start this commentary with "we will try your restaurant again" We loved the different size pours - even though our waiter was unable to advise us appropriately about the wines - it was evident he was not as well versed as he or we would have liked - in fact, when I had him ask the chef to pair my Sea Bass entree with my wine - it was the best glass all night - and my waiter was relieved. We love the Chesse selections We loved the brussel sprouts The Flat Iron steak was not tender but the sauce was great The desserts were lack luster The noise was tooo much - especially considering the atmosphere that the decor and the wait staff was trying to achieve Overall, good to great. More training for waiters ie: wines - less noise
