Diner Reviews
  • "Everything was perfect! Especially the ability to sample some truly great wines by the glass!"

  • "My adult daughter and I were happily enjoying our appetizers served by a pleasant, attentive staff, when a group of 6 or 7 women were seated next to us. There appeared to be some significant issues between them and they proceeded to exit and enter the dining room many times through doors immediately next to our table which were supposed to be kept closed. The Maitre d' noticed our discomfort and assured us the staff would take care of the problem. In fairness, they did stop using the doors; however, evidently their issues remained and my daughter and I could not hear each other and were not offered another table elsewhere. In addition, the main course selections were somewhat limited on the four-course fixed price menu."

  • " I chose Etiole after reading countless review on Open Table (and other sites). My husband is very picky about his restaurants and given that this was the final stop on our Napa adventure, we had high expectations. We were in Napa with a group of grad school friends celebrating my husbands 41st birthday. I knew the restaurant had to be fit for foodies, have a great wine list, and be able to host an intimate party of 9. Etiole did not disappoint. We did both the 4 and 6 course tasting at our table. Everyone loved their dishes. The service was on point and discreet. I highly recommend Etoile for any time you want an amazing evening."

  • "Beautiful place, great food, excellent service. Food was delicious, had great presentation, serviced at a normal pace for this class of restaurant. Staff was friendly, provided information about the food. My wife chose to ear a la cart and I took their tasting menu. Yes, it is pricy - similar to all the other restaurants in the area, but brace for memorable experience."

  • "We had a party of seven celebrating birthdays at Etoile. It was the longest and best meal I've ever had. A party that large requires assembling an armada of waiters to bring out each of the six dishes on the chef's tasting menu. We ordered wine separately and did not take the wine pairing option. We were almost unanimous that the food and service could not have been better. The one hold out was my 9-year-old granddaughter, who found the cheese on her sandwich and pasta too exotic."

  • "My parents ate here 25 years ago for their honeymoon and we have just returned to celebrate their 25 year anniversary and had the best experience, great food great wines and great service!!"

  • "Just amazing. The chef's tasting menu for lunch was shockingly delicious- can't recommend it enough. 100 times better than Medrona Manor. And 2-3x better than Ad Hoc. Just wonderful."

  • "A party of seven had lunch on a Saturday afternoon, celebrating a special occasion. I wish we had been offered an outside table, as the restaurant was too air-conditioned for our lightweight summer attire. Also, the barrel-vaulted ceiling, while attractive, caused an extremely disturbing echo to the one member of our party who was seated in the "sweet spot" directly under the center. Our table was large enough that we could move our chairs around to get her out from underneath the center, though it would have been nice, when she originally complained to our waiter, if he had suggested this instead of simply acknowledging the problem. Other than that minor complaint, the service was great, and the food was terrific."

  • "Good but pricey for the money. There was a tasting menu only and choices were somewhat haughty."
    Dined on 8/8/2014
  • "Good food, nice plating, good service and lovely setting!"
    Dined on 8/8/2014
  • "Way too expensive and not as good as other equally expensive options in Napa Valley."

  • "We had an amazing dinner, exceptional food and service. We will definitely dine here again."

  • "This was a great find for a special occasion in Napa! The food was exceptional, the service Devine. The server took her time to explain the wines, and to discuss each dish and pairing in the four course meal. Lovely experience!"

  • "Domaine Chandon Winery is located in a stunning setting, from the drive in past their vineyards and olive trees, through the massive Oaks to find plentiful parking. A short stroll over a bridge that crosses a pond and up through the lush foliage and sprawling lawns to restaurant Etoile. Tables are spaced out, conversation can be heard and walls of glass that bring the outside in are spectacular. We chose the 4 course tasting menu that includes two amuse bouche (your selection for $98). If desired, an additional $70 for wine pairings. Some entrees were Scallops, Bass, Veal and Duck Breast * The Chef's Tasting menu $125 * A la carte is also an option * Fantastic flavors, great wait staff, presentation & pacing made for a true experience."

  • "The outdoor patio was a perfect backdrop for our family birthday celebration. The food was divine, the service was wonderful but be prepared for a 3.5 hour + experience."

  • "I like the design and decoration of everywhere in the restaurant including restroom."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Etoille restaurant. Our wait staff, food and table in a Separate dining area were all superb. We would rate this a 10 out of 10."

  • "When I reserved, I should have checked the menu. We didn't realize that the dinner menu is only a four or six course chef's tasting menu so we were surprised once we were seated in the lovely dining room. We had just come from a superb concert and did not feel like searching for another place to eat, but we really weren't ready for a three hour dinner either. Laziness and the beauty of the location prevailed, and we decided to stay and simply enjoy the evening. Every plate was an masterful art work; every morsel of our four course dinner was exceptional. Each wine paired perfectly to our food. All of our servers were professional in every way, as one would expect. Sometimes it is very nice to find an eating establishment where it all works!"

  • "We were looking for a great restaurant in Yountville (other than The French Laundry) and decided to try Etoile. It was an excellent meal and well worth the money. In fact, because we are members of Domaine Chandon's wine club, it was a bit of a bargain. We got 20% off the meal, a free glass of sparkling wine, and a discount on their wines. Although they are a winery, their wine list is extensive and includes some fantastic wines. I had a glass of Grgich Hills Zinfandel that was superb, as was the Chandon Cabernet Sauvignon. The service was exceptional. Our server struck a great balance between being attentive and not hovering. Overall, I thought it was a great meal, great service, and a beautiful restaurant. Hard to complain about that."

  • "We were running late and the staff and kitchen were very acommodating! Food and service was outstanding."

  • "Food was good but overdone with the chichi. Too contrived for my taste. But fundamentally well prepared and the ingredients were fresh and first rate. Just way too much going on on the plate. Service not up to standard for a Michelin Star restaurant. Not particularly polished. No supervision or visible managemeent. Hostess doubled as seater. Had to wait at the desk for a while before she appeared from the terrace. Over priced. We are locals and visit Bouchon, Don Giovanni's and others frequently and pay almost half. Not a great value."

  • "We visited here because it was close to Yountville (like 200 yards...:)) and because we like to dine at nice places. The food was well prepared, interesting and presented, so no issue there. The menu was a little confusing, or perhaps it was our server, but our real disappointment was the dining time. We like to linger as much as anyone, but the actual time from seating to leaving was just a bit over THREE hours, which was a bit long for our taste. And it was not a busy night. If this is their standard French "ambiance" then I think they should be more upfront about that. We had a race early the next morning and did not plan to be there until after 10:30 when we sat at 7:30. Oh, and we got desert for "free" after getting fidgety..."

  • "This is a repeat visit for my daughter's 21th birthday lunch. Beautiful setting with delicious innovative menu. Excellent staff and presentation. Will definitely repeat for future napa trips."

  • "OMG!! Great on so many levels. Let's just start with desert which was a watermelon sorbet. Oh, this is not what you expect--the presentation, texture and sorbet flavor was delicious, and it came with a foam of Thailand Curry. The appetizer was a melon soup with scallops and tiny melons among other unknown ingredients . The presentation and the taste transported you to another world. I had the halibut entree which was outstanding in taste and presentation. My dining partner had the duck-confit entre which was a little salty but still delicious. On another visit, he would chose differently. Still this did not detract from the fact that this chef knows exactly what he is doing. Dining here is experiencing great art."

  • "I ordered the tasting menu and the accompanying wine pairing. While the food was top- notch, the chef was limited to Chandon offerings, which included two great sparklers, and some mediocre still wine, with the exception of the Sauvignon Blanc . For $250, we felt we were getting an overpriced Chandon wine tasting. The overall wine list contained over 500 wines, so why the limitation on the pairings? The food in the 6 course tasting was amazing and represented an excellent variety of the chef's talent. So I highly recommend the restaurant, just order wine off the list and forego the pairings."

  • "We had the chiefs tasting with wine pairings. We enjoyed every thing and the service was spot on."

  • "We had yet another amazing late afternoon lunch at Domaine Chandon. The octopus appetizer was extraordinary, as was the poached egg with caviar. The service, view and noise level made for a perfect afternoon."
    Dined on 7/13/2014
  • "This is rated as one of the top restaurants in Napa and the food is good but everything else is lacking - we were seating a strange hall like room with no other diners, the receptionist was snooty and off-putting, and the facility itself is feels cold, dated, and sterile."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "If you want a splurge, this is a wonderful place! The ambience is lovely and tables are spaced to keep noise at a minimum. Impeccable service. Outstanding food! We did the four course meal and each plate was gorgeous and perfectly prepared. A bottle of Etoile sparkling rose complemented everything quite well. Complimentary dessert bites were fabulous also! A great dining experience!"

  • "Great food, great service, a little pricy. Great for special occassions/celebrations. Went on a Thursday in middle of July, and surprisingly, only a few diners for lunch, which made it very quiet and even more enjoyable. Last dined here about 23 years ago, but this experience was more memorable."

  • "The experience begins when you enter the Domaine Chandon property and ends when you leave the property. The setting is fabulous. Staff is energetic, classy, and efficient. Our table for four had an excellent experience. The food is as beautiful to look at as it is to eat. Duck Pate Salad is amazing. The entree of Kurobuta Pork loin was the best I have ever had. The Duck, the Lamb, and the Scallops were also excellent. We had the Four Course Chef's Sampler. Next time we will add the wine sampler with the meal."

  • "I would rate a million stars if i could. The food was amazing, every course was spectacular from beginning to end. Presentation was lovely and the service was incredible. I would like to thank Suzanne who looked after each and every detail of our meal. The wine list is interactive, i enjoyed reading about the wines via iPad. Consider seating outdoors if you visit in the summer, gorgeous grounds and so serene. My favorite course was the scallop, beautifully presented and so delicious. Dessert did not disappoint, i had the lava cake and enjoyed every bite."

  • "The chef has been outstanding, and the overall experience a highlight of a trip to wine country. The appetizers are all amazing. The lamb dish was to die for. The presentation and unique blend of flavors is amazing. Our group had 6 of the main courses. Nearly all were fantastic. An exquisite dining experience with wonderful wine pairings in a beautiful setting with phenomenal service. We have been coming here every year for over 20 years. The current chef is creative, uses fresh ingredients, and provides appropriate portion sizes."

  • "From start to finish this was an exceptional meal. I m not a huge fan of fussy presentations but this was right on the mark. Besides being visually stunning, the actual essence of the food was front and center. The service was impeccable. Our server, Josh, was perfect. The choreography was not overly obtrusive."

  • "In a word this meal was incredible. The service was impeccable--each and every server we encountered was friendly, knowledgeable and entertaining. The atmosphere was lovely and of course the scenery can't be beat. The food was out of this world (are there anymore hyperbolic cliches I could possibly use?!) and I am dying to eat there again. I must try the dinner, although I'm not sure how they could improve upon their amazing lunch offering!!"

  • "Absolutely and with out any reservation I would call this the best lunch I've ever had. From the beautiful views, to the Champagne, to the appetizers and then the main courses no doubt a magnificent eating experience. The staff was friendly, attentive, knowledgable and extremely helpful. Again, a remarkable overall dining experience."
