Diner Reviews
  • "This was an experience in flavor and complexity like no other I have ever experienced. We did the six course meal with wine pairings. I have eaten all over the world and this was among the best I have experienced. The palate was busy all night long. Simply fabulous. Grat chef, great service, great ambiance."

  • "My husband I enjoyed celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary here with the Chef's tasting menu. We sat outside overlooking the grounds of Domaine Chandon which are lovely. Every course was plated beautifully and tasted delicious. The chef sends out some extras along the which is a nice touch. Scott, our server and all of the others that help along the way, with delivering the dishes were all very professional and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend Etoile, as it was the best meal of this type I have had since dining at The French Laundry."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary, had a wonderful time and restaurant staff gave us their best table for our anniversary. Food was delicious, our compliments to the chef and the staff, service was wonderful. We went with the a la carte menu, restaurant does not really mention it when you get there, they only offer the tasting menu, so ask if you need to. Either one is great to have. We had a wonderful time, thanks Etoile!!!!"

  • "we went their with high hopes and expectations. The staff was rude and didn't interact. The service was poor and the food was under seasoned. They had a nice wine list."

  • "Beautiful property. Our lunch was exquisite. It was our last stop before leaving Napa and was a memorable one. Also the only winery we purchased product to be shipped. Highly recommend!"

  • "A fantastic and romantic restaurant where the experience is high end."

  • "Our entire party felt that this was one of our most disappointing dining experiences ever. We had a party of six, which included 20% gratuity. Because our waiter was guaranteed a tip, he largely ignored our table. When he did stop by, he was unable to explain the dishes on the menu, confused our orders, advised that white truffles had been included in one of the entrees (when clearly they had not), advised that our bottle of champagne was empty (when there were still two glasses worth of champagne in the bottle), and failed to bring the paired wines with the entrees. To top it off, the food was substandard and cold. With so many outstanding restaurants in Napa, it is astounding that this restaurant still exists."

  • "We have been coming here for years, special occasions, anniversary's, our kids 21st birthday trips up from LA. What we enjoy most besides the fantastic food that is consistently innovative, fun and well prepared is the warmth and caring or the wait staff. From walking in through the doors with a 'welcome back,' to the understated ambiance and the sense that you are in for a special evening we can't recommend this highly enough."

  • "Excellent food, atmosphere and service. Once they found out that we were members of Chandon, the server poured us a beautiful glass of champagne :)"

  • "Requested a seat outside after a large number of fruit flies started buzzing around us. It was so bad the waiter provided cardboard to place over our wine glasses. Was really beautiful outside with no bugs, and luckily a warm evening for early October. Food was great and service was friendly and just the right level of attentiveness. Apparently the on-site wine fermenting process brings the fruit flies and there is nothing they can do about it. Doubt we would have stayed if they had not been able to seat us outside."

  • "Second time we've come here for our anniversary. We had the 4-course dinner with wine pairings--a truly remarkable experience--you leave with a wonderful "food hangover.""

  • "Food was exceptional along with presentation. The chef is an artist. Other than our primary waiter the service was exceptional and I would have given 5 stars. The waiter's courtesy seemed forced and occasionally he slipped into "more important than the guests" attitude. The other servers were exceptional. When spending over 160.00/ person appreciate the server adding not detracting from the evening."

  • "Our group of 5 had such a wonderful lunch. We could not have asked for better service or attention. The oysters were the best I've ever tasted and the lamb was perfect. Thank you for the memorable lunch and fantastic service. Our waiter was very knowledgeable, attentive and helpful with his suggestions."

  • "We reserved a 1:30 pm lunch before a 3:00 wine tour. Our waiter - John was extremely professional and informative. John had recommendations on wine pairing for our meal and was very knowledgeable able the flora and fauna of the surrounding environment. The food was wonderful. The service was discreetly attentive making for a relaxing lunch."

  • "Despite very good food, this restaurant seems to be stuck in the 1990's in terms of decor and scene. With all of the amazing restaurants in Napa, this place needs a major face lift to remain current and relevant. A drive just down the road in Yountville has so many great spots that I don't know how this place survives. That said, the food was excellent and deserving of a better venue."

  • "We had lunch on the patio on a perfect weather day and the food, wine and service matched. It is now on our list for a return visit for dinner. Truly an elegant experience fit for a special occasion."

  • "The ambiance, the food, the service was fine except for one GLARING NUISANCE that nobody seem to take concern to resolve or give immediate attention to despite that fact that all the service staff are clearly aware of the MANY FLIES inside the indoor dinning area!!!!! It was extremely annoying and an embarrassment to my guest investment banker from the city."

  • "We ate here after a day of wine tasting. It was a great day to end the day. We did a 4 course prix fixe dinner and the course were amazing. Fantastic service. No fewer than 5 servers came to the table. Water and bread were replenished magically. Food presentations were truly remarkable and colorful. I rarely take pictures of each course, but I felt it was justified at Domaine Chandon = Etoile. Thanks for a great meal"

  • "We drove up to the Napa Valley from San Francisco and had lunch. They offered both a tasting menu and lunch menu. Because of time constraints, we went with the regular lunch menu. Everything was delightful. One of our party had the heirloom tomato salad as an appetizer; another had the oysters, which featured several varieties from various locations. Our main entrées were the beef tenderloin and duck dishes. The beef tenderloin was exceedingly tender and seemed to be a popular dish as many other diners selected that as well. For dessert, the fig cake with heavenly fig ice cream was exceptional."

  • "Sure, drinking wine all day may have had an impact on my taste buds, but while some dishes were great, others were not, and the portion size was lacking. Overall, I would say I am glad I went there, but do not need to return. It wasnt as good as the hype."

  • "This is a fantastic restaurant. However when we were given the menu we were only offered a menu for the tasting menu, giving an option of four or six courses. I had read the menu on line before and knew a la carte was available. We had to ask for the a la carte menu before we got it and quite clearly the expensive tasting menu was being pushed which would have been too much too eat for me."

  • "Etoile was very impressive. Most of the food was excellent, very much California cuisine, some was just not my cup of tea. Server tried really hard, was very nice; but forgot to bring things often and we spent almost three hours on a very extended dinner. Some of this may have been the format of the dinner and not entirely the server's fault. I enjoy a social, not rushed dinner, but three hours is just too long. We were over ready to leave and it just kept going on and on. Felt that I had to visit once, probably will not visit again. Not enjoyable enough for the price."

  • "A group of us had dinner. The food is outstanding. The waiter did a great job accommodating our requests. None of us wanted the large set meals offered and he worked with us to get portions we wanted. The flavors were amazing!"

  • "The restaurant reflects the stars it has, the service is excellent and the meal was priced correctly. The food (lamb) was almost raw and two plates were returned. The other entrees was excellent."

  • "My husband and I recently celebrated our 15 wedding anniversary at Etoile. We opted for the 4 course tasting menu over the 6 course. The portions were generous and we were stuffed by the end of the meal. Our choices included the rabbit (1st course), the brozinni (2nd course), the suckling pig (3rd course) and the molten lava cake (4th course). The good was amazing but a little on the rich side. That being said it was an amazing, romantic meal and I have very high standards when it comes to food."

  • "You can't see Domain Chandon from the road, but when you find it you can't miss the fine dining experience of Etoile!!"

  • "We dined at Etoile as a special treat for our last night in Napa Valley. It lived up to our expectations. We chose the four course tasting menu, each taking a different option at each stage. My husband's duck pate was superb, more of a parfait than a pate. My burrata cheese starter was very good but I would have liked more roasted peach. My black bass was wonderfully complemented by the lobster sauce. The duck that followed was also a superb dish. My husband's Alaskan halibut followed by the lamb was no less appreciated even the butter beans which he would not normally have liked at all. Desserts were also a delight. We took the wine pairings and that worked really well. The service was friendly, attentive and helpful."
