Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I had great experience at DC. Food was excellent and the attention to detail made our dining experience a very enjoyable one!"

  • "When traveling to the Napa wine region most visitors want to experience at least one special diner. We have been to the French Laundry , Redd, Bistro Jeanty, Bouchon, and many more, but the best value for a truly memorable meal has to be Etoile at Domaine Chandon Winery. You will have to open your wallet (not nearly as much as dining at the French Laundry), but will walk away at the end of the evening having enjoyed one of the best dinners of your life. The service, location, ambiance, service and food should all get a 9.99. We tried to find something that was missing, or should be changed, and couldn't find fault with any aspect of the meal. The one thing we did at the end of the evening was to make plans for a return visit with friends."

  • "price: extremely high quantity of food extremely loud relaxing atmosphere nicely decorated not worth the money to see the decoy"

  • "Very nice food and service. We thought that the three hour time for completion of the meal was too long, especially for a restaurant with set menu choices. Although very tasty, portions are small, and the experience is expensive."

  • "We are never disappointed with the service and the excellent quality of the meal. From soup to dessert, it was excellent! As always!"

  • "We had an early lunch at 11:30 am. I keep hearing myself saying words I had heard on the Food Network Channel to describe how wonderful the food was to taste and see! The pairing of tenderloin and the vegetables was beyond perfection. The knowledge of our servicer was very helpful in our food and wine selections. He was spot on! The service was exceptional, our every need was taken care of before we knew we needed it. We ate inside because it was raining but the indoor/outdoor feeling made it feel like we were outside but still warm and dry!"

  • "Our last visit was on our 20th anniversary, this time our 40th. Everything was just as wonderful as we remembered it."

  • "I took my professor of art to celebrate his retirement at Etoili restaurant. We were received so well and had such a wonderful time eating the best food and served some of the best sparkling wine ever. Everyones food was so artfully displayed and so delicious to eat. The oysters were supurb. I loved the spring onion soup. I thought it was so elegant that the waiter came and circled the plate with this warmed puree. it was so good. My professor had the tenderloin. He said he had never tasted a piece of beef that good. His wife had the lamb and she was in love with the fiddle ferns. I had the salmon and it was cooked to perfection. We also enjoyed the desserts. The pear dish was outstanding as well as the chocolate. Loved it all."

  • "Some places are burned in your mind with a memory. This place is even better than I remembered from my last visit from 20 years back (which, in itself, was fabulous back then). Please consider this a "Must Do" on any visit to Napa Valley."

  • "We had been told to have lunch at Etoile, the restaurant at Domaine Chandon. What we did not know, was that the chef was in his 20s and an amazing Michelin-star awardee. The meal looked beautiful and tasted even better. The pastry chef is equally as wonderful; we were taking apart our dessert so that we could savior the flavors of each component. In addition, we were celebrating our 20th anniversary, and Etoile could not have made us feel more special. As an aside, our bus boy was a clear foodie who made sure we were well tended. Lovely from beginning to end! Thank you."

  • "We belong to Chandon wine club and have dined at Etoile before for lunch and dinner. It is a beautiful setting, during the day views across a perfect garden with rolling lawn and well cared for plants. At night it is lit nicely. The food is delicious and served by a very knowledgable wait staff. The mood is elegant and serene. Wine club members are treated special with complimentary champagne and discounts on the wine pairings. We left with a small box of cookies "for breakfast" ! Not cheap but well worth the price."

  • "I hosted a lunch for my wife's 40th Birthday on a Sat afternoon. After two full days of tasting and dining, Etoile was wonderful. Staff was great, food was unbelievable, and ambiance perfect. They did a wonderful presentation with the cake I brought and everyone really enjoyed themselves. Great work Etoile!"

  • "recently joined some friends from France at this wonderful restaurant. The food service and wine selection was one of the best in Napa. We enjoyed several glasses of fantastic wine. Discovered Newton Puzzle at the recommendation of our server. Quality and prep of our dinner was true eye candy. This is a must visit if you are in Napa and want to eat at one of its finest restaurants."

  • "First off I will say that the food was outstanding. However, the service was not very good. The servers weren't mean by any stretch, in fact they were all very polite and nice - they just seemed out of sorts and aloof. Had to ask for bread 3 times, our wine 2 times, and some brandy 2 times as well. We never complained or were rude to the servers but I think they knew that they had dropped the ball a little so we were given the wine and brandy for free and they also gave us a free bottle of pricey champagne to bring home. That was very nice of them to do without us complaining or asking for it. If you are an epicure then this would be a place I would recommend. If you just want a nice meal in Napa, I would try Bottega or Bouchon."

  • "I took my friends who from Japan to there, I would love to recommend to all of my friends to go this restaurant. so, we took tour first and had lunch at restaurant. the only one thing, it took almost too long to get food for each courses. we had to wait at least 20 to 30min to get food. I dont know why they were taking so much time to serve food, I thought they went to pick some vegetables at the garden or start butchering meat to order. each dishes were great, delicious and beautiful but need to speed up to serve food!"
    Dined on 3/2/2014
  • "Food overall was good but nothing really stood out or hit a high note for us. The desserts however were a pleasant surprise: inventive, tasty, not overly sweet, and all around fantastic! Service was friendly, attentive, and on point."

  • "Was a little put off by the slow service. Waited 25 minutes to receive water and bread and had to ask waiter for a refill on our water. After lunch we ordered dessert and had to ask for the coffee three times - as he kept forgetting it - very small coffee cup and again had to ask for a refill. Nice place to visit, but don't think we would go back."

  • "I did not realize there were so many stairs in order to access. Since I use a cane it was very difficult. That said, when I left the manager went and got my car so I could leave via a "non-stair" exit not generally accessible to customers. Other than that the food was outstanding. Prix Fix menu only but every course was excellent as was the serviec."

  • "I booked late and as such did not get an especially impressive table. After the first "chef's complementary course" it would not have mattered if we were seated in the lobby. My wife and I pride ourselves as being quite the foodies and I can say that dinner was one of the best we have every had. All the chef's tasting courses were creative, complex, well thought out and created from the best ingredients available. Service was perfectly managed. We felt well taken care of and not ever intruded upon. Wine selection was excellent and the reserve Chardonnay was as excellent as it's reputation. Ignore the fake bad reviews, skip the Laundry, and visit e'toile!"

  • "We had the six course tasting menu with suggested wine pairings and it was exceptional, I could not fault it. The waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable. Thoroughly enjoyed it."

  • "The grounds are gorgeous. The service from everyone but especially Susan F was world class. The food was exquisite. We had French Laundry the next night and everything there paled in comparison to Etoile. The parent company is Louis Vuitton, and that luxury comes through. And all that for 1/2 the price of French Laundry!"

  • "Had a wonderful experience & lunch and look forward to our next return. We must try their tasting menu at dinner time as we are intrigued. The presentation and taste were exceptional."

  • "It was without question the best food I have ever eaten! The service was beyond compare with their knowledge, friendliness and guidance to help you select just the right menu for your taste. The chief must have come from heaven, not to mention the desserts. I don't even eat dessert and I had to finish it. It was a Birthday celebration! The presentation of everything was fantastic. It has become my "new" best restaurant in Napa."

  • "Maybe because we were dining on Valentine's or maybe Domaine Chandon is too full of themselves but we found the service to be mixed. Plates were served beautifully but our requests for lemon for water was repeatedly ignored and we had a few mistakes with wine pairings (one person requested it and it was not followed through). And yes, it was a busy night because this is a restaurant only for a special occasion as the pricing was quite high."

  • "The Mrs. and I celebrated our 45th Anniversary and were astonished. We typically dine at upscale bistros, such as Ad Hoc, Buchon, etc., in the Napa Valley region. This experience was considerably more exquisite. While we haven't been to the French Laundry or Meadowood, (both are 3 star rated by the Michelin Guide), I believe Etoile has to be in that league."

  • "I dined at Chandon in 2004. Food was much better then. The wine list was ridiculous this time. Not written for someone drinking top of the line California wines for the past 35 years. Food protions we really small. Prides were very high, especially the salads. Way too stuffy. Won't be back. Had a much better experience at Mustard's. Their wine list is incredible."

  • "We had an amazing lunch at L'Etoile. The service was first rate, wonderful sommelier, great wine list and the food was spectacular. We had the tasting menu which was fresh, innovative and executed perfectly. I had not been in many years and was very pleased to experience the restaurant again. I look forward to more excellent meals there."

  • "It's been nearly 19 years since my last visit to Etoile, and the restaurant is still fantastic. Service is impeccable, and the cuisine is simply amazing."

  • "We went to Etoile to celebrate our first Valentine's Day together. I expected an intimate setting with great food, but this far surpassed all of my expectations. Every detail of each dish presented to us was absolute perfection. The meal began with several "gifts" from the chef, called Amuse Bouche (single, bite sized appetizers), before we even saw the first of our selected courses. The pace was relaxed and elegant, yet never left us wondering when the next plate would arrive. There must have been at least 6 different people waiting on us throughout the evening, each as professional and polished as the next. Overall, one of the best dining experiences in memory. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend!"

  • "After reading reviews, I expected more out of this meal. I think they might have been having growing pains because they had been closed for a while before that night (our waiter told us several times) but it was a fun night and we had a great time even if the food was just okay."

  • "My husband and I went to Etoile for Valentine's Day and it was a dining experience I will never forget; romantic ambience, impeccable service, and the food! This is French Laundry-level food - I didn't even know food could taste like this. Every single bite was absolute and total perfection, and I loved how the chef would surprise us with little food "gifts" from the kitchen. Having been to many fine restaurants, it is with great pleasure that I annoint Etoile the best restaurant in the world!"

  • "Inspite of the pouring rain , Chandon Winery was bustling with energetic tasters having a lot of fun in the tasting room. Our party of 10 celebrating my mother's 70th was happy to oberve all of the fun in the tasting room through the glass from our beautifully decorated and secluded dining oasis. We couldn't hear a thing but felt a part of the excitement while enjoying our delicous & elegant lunch. The service was impeccable and the lunch was exquisite! I ordered flowers to be delivered for the table but they were completely unnecessary as the the table already had a beautiful orchid in the middle and the area was surrounded by orchids on display. What a special day for my Mom and her "senior" friends!"
