  • "Great menu for restaurant week. Selected the Ahi Tuna Poke with seaweed salad, both were some of the best to date. Braciole flank steak and pasta was excellent with Italian accent. The cheesecake desert was on the smaller side but perfect for the amount of food that was already served. Excellent overall experience, even though it was kind of loud, but that's what is expected during restaurant week. One of the best meals experienced in Portsmouth so far."

  • "Liked the idea of not having a special menu for Rest Week just being able to pick from the regular menu was nice. Loved the atmosphere here. Very cozy and loved décor. Food was excellent . Veal was cooked to perfection. The wine list esp. white wines was limited. Did not think there were any good or interesting lower priced white wines. Service was very good. All great except white wine list. I would dine here again."

  • "Dolphin Striker did not disappoint with a delicious assortment of menu items for a celebratory birthday dinner. In addition, their participation in restaurant week is one of the best. All menu items except lobster were part of the price. Our server was very friendly, solicitous, and informative. The surroundings are historic and cozy. Once you have dined here, you will return again and again! The restaurant is very convenient to the Hanover Street Parking Garage which is an additional perk."

  • "The service and food were excellent. I would have ranked it as excellent overall had it not been for the noise level of the table of drunken women beside us. We should have said something to the staff but we kept thinking they were leaving and in the end we left before they did. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone but I may caution that if they are looking for a quiet romantic setting I don't think this hits that mark."

  • "My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed restaurant week dining at Dolphin Stricker because their food and service are outstanding AND their deal for restaurant week is fabulous - the best. We had appetizers (lobster mac & cheese & Goat Cheese Walnut Salad), entrees (Lobster St. Tropez and Beef Wellington) and desserts (lemon cake & apple cobbler ala mode) all for $29.95 each. We will be back again soon, even if not restaurant week!"

  • "The Dolphin Striker has been in the Portsmouth mix for as long as I can remember. As other concepts come and go, it is the steady, tried and true. We went for restaurant week, mainly because they are one of the few that offer almost their entire menu for the event. They didn't disappoint, with some of the best apps and entrees around. Service wasn't the best, but they were slammed and wait staff were hustling, so probably not a fair night to judge. If they had a deck and more tables they'd be hands down the best."

  • "The food was moderate - nothing fancy whatsoever. Yet I spent the same amount at other more expensive and much nicer restaurants and came away far more satisfied. The beef Wellington was small and nothing to write home about - yet they charged $52 for each one. That's ridiculous. Also people standing at the bar are pretty much standing at your table - and this is with a reservation."

  • "We were hosting a group of navy guys in for training and wanted to pick a place with a varied menu. We choose the Dolphin Striker based on Yelp and Open Table reviews and were not disappointed. As luck would have it, this was the first night of restaurant week and the most impressive thing was that the restaurant offered virtually the entire menu, not some short, cheap menu, as part of the celebration. So for $29.95 you had a choice of appetizer (amazing choices), entree ( like beef wellington, specialized fish dishes), and great desserts. Three of our party couldn't fathom eating dessert and DS was happy to pack them to go. Who does that? Everyone was happy with their choices - most of us ordered fish with specialized sauce. Yum."

  • "Based on a friend's recommendation, we went with another couple. EVERYTHING was perfect! Good drinks, no rush, relaxed appetizers, extra "dippers" provide so we cold finish our appetizers, plenty of time to explain the menu, substitutions were easy and graciously allowed - and the Food??? Out of this world! Absolutely amazing! 4 different dishes for the 4 of us - absolutely no complaints or criticisms! Perfect portions, nice presentation, perfect temperature. AND there was room to share an unbelieveable dessert! Perfect place for a night out to catch up with friends! We WILL go back!"

  • "This historic Portsmouth landmark is a gem, yet it seems to have been hardhit by its competition. While the atmosphere is still charming, on this particular (very cold) Sunday evening, there was a slight lackluster sense that showed itself in our meals. By that I mean, they were well- prepared, but somehow boring - no "extra" originality in the fare. Maybe winter has just lasted too long for all of us! it's still a grand venue with a busier bar in its lower level. I think it just needs a good dose of fresh energy !"

My glass of wine was not what I had ordered either. I'm not one to complain so I drank both of them but it was a disappointment. I still had a nice time in the cozy dining room and the food menu had plenty of options."

  • "The Striker is very charming and New England-y in décor. We had paella and haddock piccata. The paella didn't have that elusive crust on the bottom, but it was very tasty and had lots of seafood. The piccata was a piece of broiled haddock with a large volume of piccata sauce poured over the top. Unusual presentation, sort of like piccata soup with a big piece of fish, but very tasty. Service (Ann) was very friendly and attentive. After dinner, we headed downstairs to the Spring Hill Tavern. There's music seven nights a week -- a variety of types. This Sunday night was quality guitar music by Don Severance, some cover, some original -- and a bongo player friend (I assume) of the guitarist dropped by and joined in for a set."

  • "Good food, serivce and abience. The challenge is parking. We arived 5 minutes prior to our reservation time, I dropped my wife off so she could go in and I could find a parking spot. I drove and drove around looking for parking. The lots were full, other restaurants had Valet, but nothing for Dophin Striker. A simple notification on thier website, could have let me know of the challenge an prepared me. I could easily have taken a taxi from the hotel I was staying at."

The food was acceptable, nothing fancy and we enjoyed our meal. I would probably not return given the other options in Portsmouth."

  • "My wife and I went to the restaurant for a belated Valentine's Day dinner. The place is nice and cozy with the low ceilings and all the exposed wood in the main floor dining room. The waitress was efficient but not overbearing, the food was very good, they were out of a few of our initial choices but it was the end of the weekend and it's to be expected so we made alternate selections that were very good."

  • "I took my wife and her family here for my wife's birthday. I asked, in my reservation, if they would be able to make creme brulee for her desert. That is her favorite desert. It is not a normal menu item for them. Not only did they make her desert, but they put a birthday candle on it as well and cued me and her family to sing happy birthday. It was a nice touch that made the evening that much more special for her. It was really nice to see how much they care for their patrons."

  • "I had an espresso martini that I later on learned was $14. (Really? I would have been better off with a beer). We had a three course dinner, so I chose the beef carpaccio, stuffed haddock, and brownie sundae. The carpaccio was the most bland I've ever had, and was served in an odd, difficult to eat slice with bland sprouts and bread. The stuffed haddock was hearty but simple. It was good enough. The brownie sundae was strangely burnt. Champagne toast was nice. Food: Disappointingly simple for $50 per person. Overpriced. Terrible first impression. Wouldn't go back. Service: Samantha was phenomenal! She was the highlight by far. The twenty-something server assistant was really funny and enjoyable as well. Atmosphere: Cozy and romantic."
