A word from Dockside Restaurant on York Harbor
The approach to the Dockside Restaurant is all part of the Dockside’s charm. You are treated to views of the York River and the grand “summer cottages” as you turn onto Harris Island Road to reach Dockside Restaurant.

The view is quintessential Maine, people hustling up and down the docks, gleaming yachts and colorful lobster boats in front of a rock and pine-tree shore.

Dockside is warm and comfortable. Hardwood floors, European style lighting floor to ceiling window and a new mahogany bar with an adjoining outdoor cocktail deck. During warm months seating is available on our harbor view screen porch. The atmosphere is casual but the food is serious.

Chef Dennis la Planet has been recognized as a “chef’s chef”. North Atlantic seafood prepared with a northern Italian influence and aged steaks are just the start. Lunch features organic salads, creative sandwiches and traditional favorites; fish and chips, chowders and fried clams too

Diner Reviews
  • "Strongly recommend reservation/calling before you leave to make sure they are open as they are closed two days a week and also for private events. Server Zach, was very pleasant & accommodating. We made a reservation and said it was for a special occasion; requested a water view. Unfortunately, the special occasion was not ever acknowledged by the restaurant, but that was only minus. We got the best table in the place: a corner table on the porch with a gorgeous view. I would highly recommend eating here when weather allows you to eat outside as the porch is just wonderful. I had fish & chips; the batter was too thick for my liking; fish inside was fabulously fresh and tasty. We had the flourless chocolate cake for dessert-rich & YUM!"

  • "We were looking for a place on the water to have an anniversary dinner. We found this restaurant online and liked the menu and the fact that it overlooked the harbor and water. We had a window seat and the atmosphere was conducive to a quiet dinner. Very nice and the food was excellent. My husband was disappointed that they were out of the Malbec wine but understood as it was at the end of the season."

  • "Dockside is our all time favorite restaurant. Wonderful food; great service; beautiful view."

  • "Dined on 8-29: drunken lobster was outstanding, I took my Mom 10-11 for the same dish but very different outcome. August: tender lobster in a boldly flavorful whisky cream sauce vs. Oct: Tough tail in a bland no flavor cream sauce. Our hostess (Heather) and waitress (Suzie) was fantastic and my dad ejoyed his haddock dinner, but the reason for returning was a big let down."

  • "I don't mind waiting for good food and service. I do mind feeling like a stop on a route. Our server only serviced her tables on a rotation. Everyone got something as she whisked about the room but you aren't gonna get individual service. Our bread came with other baskets of bread for other tables. Our drinks weren't delivered as we ordered them it when the bartender had finished making drinks for everyone in her group of tables. So the wine I wanted WITH my dinner came after I finished my dinner because it takes a while to make drinks for our table and a the other ones in her grouping. Really put a damper on an otherwise terrific evening with some great food."

  • "Was eating out on my own and found this spot. My meal was fantastic. Order the special of the day which was fresh cod wrapped in bacon with a squash puree. The fish was so tender and flaky it just melted in my mouth. The views are lovely. I was there early in the evening and it was nice and quiet...almost too quiet. Then a large group came in and the noise level increased quite a bit. It didn't bother me...I enjoy hearing others laughter plus I was on my way out soon anyway."

  • "The restaurant had some sort of party the evening we went so it was a bit loud and disorganized therefore I cant speak for how it normally is. on our visit the food was ok nothing to rave about) service was good and friendly. I can imagine the view is much better during the day especially if you sit out side. It was not cheap and I was not wowed but I don't think anyone you would be unhappy."

  • "This is the third time we have had dinner at the Dockside and the third time that I have had the drunken lobster. It is amazing. My husband had the shrimp linguine for the third time and he too reported the same excellence. The service was wonderful and the food delightful - we will return for a fourth time next year"

  • "Our dinner was delicious and dining on the porch was wonderful, especially since it was a warm evening. Watching the boats come into the Marina was very pleasant as we dined."

  • "It was a distinct pleasure to dine without some screaming female 's noise flowing from speakers. Our party very much enjoyed being able to converse while dining and to hear the chatter of other folks enjoying their dinners."

  • "The view is absolutely wonderful. I was disappointed when we split a wonderful Strawberry Gorgz salad that we were charged an additional $2.00. They have a very interesting menus. We ordered the Drunken Lobster and the Beef Tornedos. The presentation was very good but the meal was only average. Our service by Sherrian was only average. We did not seem to click together. We will return again to try other items on the menus. Our average main entree was $32.00."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our very first dining experience @ Dockside! Everything was outstanding...from the wine to the dessert! We will definitely book this venue on our next trip to Ogunquit! Bravo!!!"

  • "The view is gorgeous. The food was disappointing. The flavor of each food was on the bland side. The service was pleasant and attentive. Portions were adequate. The plate presentation very simple. The fish was dry and tasteless. For the money, I expected more. Again, it is a beautiful setting!"

  • "The kitchen can be inconsistent from night to night, but that is more than offset by the awesome view of York Harbor, particularly from the limited number of front porch tables (tip: reserve early!). Another tip: If your reservation is for a table in the warm and attractive main dining room, bring along noise-cancelling headphones. The din can drown out quiet conversations, particularly if you happen to sit next to a boisterous party (as we did on one of the four nights we dined there). All in all, though, the place is certainly worth a visit!"

  • "Was hoping to get a table on the screened-in porch, but nothing available, so we were seated outside on the deck. Lovely view. Food was average, prices a little high for lunch. I was shocked when the bill came and we were charged for re-fills on our sodas....they should have told us they weren't "free". Sodas came to more than the lunch itself. Our waiter was great and the view was beautiful. I've been here before and would return. But I do think the prices should be lower. Perhaps they are charging for the "view"? And they should let people know re=fills are NOT free! I was a little disappointed in the seafood chowder. Menu said it had seafood chunks, but I couldn't find any!"

  • "We visited the Dockside Restaurant for dinner for the first time and enjoyed our experience very much. We asked for patio seating and loved the view of the water and gardens. The atmosphere was very relaxing (despite a thunderstorm that came as we sat down). The food was well prepared, fresh and the portions were amble. We had, among the three of us, the lobster, tornadoes of beef and the house special - swordfish kebabs. The service was attentive and the staff flexible when we needed to change tables due to the weather. We definitely plan to return on our next visit to the area."

  • "The restaurant has a great atmosphere but service was just ok. Perhaps we went too late in the day (7:30 reservation) - they seemed to be wanting to shut down for the evening - Monday night. They had no duckling on the menu and ran out of the delicious looking blueberry pie. For the money, I'd choose another place."

  • "We have been going back to the Dockside for 13 years to celebrate our wedding there and anniversaries. Never disappointed in the dining experience; just keeps getting better. This year one new item was added to the appetizer list: Lobster bisque shooters. The most delicious bisque served in tiny cups with a morsel of fresh lobster on the fork. Our table was on the screened porch overlooking one of the prettiest harbors, the York River, and the ocean. Perfect. Peaceful. Delicious. Congratulations to the Lusty family for upholding such excellence at the Dockside."

  • "On our visit to York, we invited a local friend to meet us at Dockside, which he had not visited before. He said he thought his GPS had misled him when he got to the dead end--then saw the dirt road and sign. We were all impressed by the whole experience. The view is picturesque, looking across the water and out to sea. I liked the Harbor Sunset cocktail so much, we went to the bar after dinner for another! Fish was perfectly cooked and nicely presented."

  • "The location of the Dockside right on York Harbor is ideal. The food, unfortunately, does not live up to the setting. One of the evening's special was baked cod. While the cod was very fresh, it was absolutely tasteless. We ordered the apple pie for dessert and were again disappointed by its thick, flavorless crust and under cooked apples. Service was slow even though the restaurant was not very busy."

  • "We booked online short notice. 4 kids & three adults. I plugged in six on the app & we had a reservation in 10 min. We were greeted by a friendly man who quickly went out of his way to change the 6 top round to fit 7 of us. He was immediately nice to my 11 year old. We had two 7 year olds & two 11 year old kids w/ us. The kids meals were $7, delicious & big portion chicken. We ordered two of the daily made mozzarella which was also big potion. The French onion soup was perfec. $3 lobster shot which was accompanied by a tiny side of fresh meat. Everyone was amazed how good the food was. Service was fast enough as it was getting busy.We ordered the haddock for $28, the chicken & Paletta for $20 & the angus burger for $12. Beautiful view."

  • "My wife and I were married here 9 years ago and return each year, on or around our anniversary for a special dinner. We were thrilled with our wedding and reception and have been very happy every year afterward! Meals are very good and the HD Riesling is the best we've ever had. The price is not cheap but you get what you pay for. Steak, seafood, poultry, apps, dessert, it's all great. Absolutely beautiful setting and views either inside or on their screened in porch. Owner, Phil Lusty greets us each time he sees us and we have a very nice conversation to get caught up. Would highly recommend this Restaurant for a special outing!"

  • "The dinner and the waitress were excelent until our bill was screwd up. we were paying with 2 credit cards and the waitress made a mistake running the cards. The the Manager came over to try to fix it with a drink in his hand and he looked intoxicated. He basicially said that we should sore it out between ourselves a sther was a 3 day hold of over $200 dollars on one card and the total was but on the other card 3 seperate times. He also pushed my 71 year old Aunt's hand away when she offered to pay cash. the waitress was a sweet heart, but they need to take a look at there manager."

  • "We were so thrilled to find this great place at the last minute, just a short jaunt from Boston. Food was absolutely delicious (we had swordfish and drunken lobster), service was so nice and not hurried, drinks weren't incredible but very decent for the price. Our romantic dinner on the screened porch overlooking the harbor at sunset was just priceless. Thank you Dockside, we'll be back for longer next time to try more of the menu. It was hard to decide but thankfully our wise and lovely waitress Sherrian made excellent suggestions."
