A word from Dockside Restaurant on York Harbor
The approach to the Dockside Restaurant is all part of the Dockside’s charm. You are treated to views of the York River and the grand “summer cottages” as you turn onto Harris Island Road to reach Dockside Restaurant.

The view is quintessential Maine, people hustling up and down the docks, gleaming yachts and colorful lobster boats in front of a rock and pine-tree shore.

Dockside is warm and comfortable. Hardwood floors, European style lighting floor to ceiling window and a new mahogany bar with an adjoining outdoor cocktail deck. During warm months seating is available on our harbor view screen porch. The atmosphere is casual but the food is serious.

Chef Dennis la Planet has been recognized as a “chef’s chef”. North Atlantic seafood prepared with a northern Italian influence and aged steaks are just the start. Lunch features organic salads, creative sandwiches and traditional favorites; fish and chips, chowders and fried clams too

Diner Reviews
  • "We dined on the porch at the Dockside for my sister-in-law's 40th birthday celebration. What an enchanting evening!"

  • "First the Dockside has a great view overlooking the York Harbor, especially from the porch dining area. The Maine crab cakes were excellent. A new entree is on the menu, a Lobster pannini. My wife ordered it and she gave me a bite. It was filled with lobster and other goodies."

  • "The food was very good. While the menu was not extensive, we all found numerous selections we had to choose from making the decision hard. The view of the harbor is very beautiful. We found the service to be very slow, though it did not bother us as we were in no hurry. The wine list is limited and populated with wines which are inexpensive compared to other restaurants with comparable food. However, we found a wine we liked quite a bit. It was very inexpensive for the quality. The restaurant is hard to find because the GPS tells you it is in a place it is not. You need to continue down the road further on. All in all a very good dining experience."

  • "A beautiful view was offset by dirty table linens and poor service. The food was just OK, the appetizer was oily and the main course had much to much sauce. The waiter never checked back to see if our meals were acceptable and the hostess spilled water all over the table an me. She did a poor job wiping it up and never brought me a dry napkin. We ordered a bottle of white wine, the waiter said he would be back with a wine chiller, our meal was almost over and the bottle almost empty before it arrived. The restaurant was not busy, as a matter of fact it was slow, so, no excuses for poor service. I won't go back, there are too many other excellent places in the York area to waste my time and money giving them a second chance."

  • "Great food great location. View of York Harbor is spectacular. We always have a wonderful time. The specials of the day are always interesting!"

  • "You can't beat the view at Dockside. The portion size on the fish was small and the New England Clam Chowder was not the best."

  • "We have visited Dockside many times and every visit has been a wonderful experience. It is a dinning experience that you enjoy recommending to all your friends and family."

  • "We stayed at the hotel and considered the convenience of the restaurant a strong point. The smoked lamb shank was a special of the night and it was delicious. The waterfront location provided both great views from both inside the restaurant as well as the screened-in porch (where we ate) and the the third option, outside on the deck. We had the added feature of a wedding that took place on the lawn outside the restaurant followed by the wedding party eating in a private room. It was a fun evening."

  • "This was such a pleasant last minute find! The view was fantastic and the food was excellent. The service and wine list were also super! I would absolutely recommend the Dockside and we will definitely be return customers!"

  • "Although this was only our second time at the "Dockside Restaurant," perhaps only ten miles into Maine from the New Hampshire border, it's a place we would gladly drive 70 miles from Boston again - and not only for our wedding anniversary. Dockside is a place out of time. Small, quiet, attractive but not showy, it offers attentive staff and a sea-focused and well-prepared menu at reasonable prices. The unhindered harbor view was, as the brochures often claim - but seldom deliver - lovely. Meaning, deeply satisfying in the sense of having time and space to have a conversation where you and your partner can actually hear one another, and seldom be disturbed, except by waves or wind."

  • "Overlooking York Harbor, the Dockside has great good, superb service and a chef with imagination. Stroll around the grounds while there (it is also an Inn) for a relaxing experience. An L shaped, screened in porch allows outdoor dining or there is indoor seating. The bar includes a patio. Great dishes like crab cakes with mushroom which adds an unusual flavor. The Drunken Lobster is fantastic. The Dockside is a true dining gem."

  • "Went for Mother's Day brunch and it was perfect. The noise level is high, my only complaint. Sitting on the porch is delightful and the view the best around. The food was excellent especially if you like seafood as it was heavy on that."

  • "Prior to our Mother's Day Brunch, we had attended a wedding and stayed at the Dockside, with family and friends. The return says it all. We had to come back. The Dockside makes you feel like your part of thier family. We could not ask for a better place to be on Mother's Day. Thank you Dockside for welcoming us back. "

  • "Certain things are consistent in life and thus make us all the better... like a mother's love and a wonderful meal at the Dockside! This is a York Harbor gem that we are so happy to have back in 2014! Great summer ahead at the Dockside!"

  • "We weren't sure what to expect with specified seating times and had never been to the restaurant before. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Seating arrangements done up well. Rotations for meals handled very well. Plenty of time for 2 hour meal rotations. Prime Rib was the best we've ever had. Smoked appetizers a great plus! Just a great experience! Would go back again."

  • "we drove up from boston on a whim and prayed we could find somewhere good that was not already mobbed for mothers day and were pleasantly surprised to find space, a seat on the deck overlooking the beautiful harbor, great food (really watery OJ is my only complaint), great service and a grassy area with a rocky beach and a gazebo for my 3 year old and 11 month old to toddle around on while we lounged after our great meal. Felt like we found a hidden gem. It was really perfect and we would go again! The walking trail nearby was a fun-find also!"

  • "Food was bland and overcooked. May be an end of the season run down. Take away the nice setting on the York River, rating would have been one star.. Would not return."

  • "The people were very nice and welcoming. I felt comfortable there and the food was delicious..."

  • "Dockside in York, Maine, overlooks a charming harbor with many boats. Food always delicious, fresh seafood a specialty, and the staff is attentive and very nice. We always feel welcome there and always have a good meal."

  • "First time there. We didn't know a 3PM seating would not offer dinner entrees, Now we'll know to go early if we want lunch, later for dinner. The food was very good, also the house Chardonnay. A bit more expensive than our normal eating out, but we had a $100 gift certificate and used every bit of it."
    Dined on 9/22/2013
  • "This is a great place to have a the best dinner - everything about the dockside is 5 stars in my book. The food is beyond wonderful and the staff/owner are great at what they do. You will not be disappointed!"

  • "Was surprised to find this place tucked away off of York Harbor. Had dinner Saturday evening with reservations and was very pleased with the place. Service was just ok, server was probably still learning - however the food, view and ambiance made up for it. Very well constructed dinners with a seaside/coastal influence. Would recommend for a great evening with family or friends."

  • "If you like dining in a scenic, quiet out of the way spot this is a great choice. It's a triple win...location, food & service are perfect. We have eaten here with a large group, with another couple for lunch, as well as a quiet romantic dinner for two and we have nothing but kudos for our dining experiences and this restaurant."

  • "The restaurant and view are outstanding. The food is very good and the wait staff very attentive."

  • "We had requested a table with a scenic view and were not disappointed. We were shown to a tableoverlooking the docks and boats. Our waiter greeted us promptly and introduced himself. He took the drink orders but allowed us time to enjoy the view and peruse the menu. The food arrived hot and well prepared. The crab cakes appetizer and the divers' scallops were outstanding. The scallops had a tomato based sauce that was a little spicy hot. They were presented on circles of polenta sitting on a spinach puree. These ingredients cut the fire of the sauce, making the combo exceptionally good. Devon ,our waiter, was knowledgeable about the menu. He wisely advised members of our party that added pepper might not be necessary or taste enhancing."

  • "Beautiful place. Deck is lovely. First two times we went it was closed for weddings. So call before you head out. Its a little off the beaton path, but well worth the trip."

  • "We ate at the Dockside during our recent stay at their inn The Dockside Guest Quaters. The food was fresh and well prepared. The overall setting is so relaxing and welcoming that we changed dinner plans on our second night to eat again at the Dockside Restaraunt. The setting on the harbor is pleasant and feels very "off the beaten path" from some of the more touristy eating places along Route 1. Our last meal here was 25 years ago during our last stay at the inn. It was nice to see that what we liked so much back then is still here but with some appropriate updating and changes. It was as pleasant and as relaxing as we remembered. We won't wait 25 years to return!"

  • "We were very pleased with Dockside. We ate on the porch although it was a bit chilly but the ambience was perfect. Both my husband & I had the lobster with the scallops it was excellent. Our server was pleasant, attentive without being obstrusive. We were so happy we booked a reservation for our last night in Maine again we were pleased with our meals . We would definitely go back."
    Dined on 8/29/2013
  • "The food was very good, nothing complicated, but fresh and nicely presented. It would be nice to find more of a selection of white wines to go with the fish and seafood dishes."
    Dined on 8/26/2013
  • "My dinner was lukewarm and the fish was over cooked. There was no mention of the fish being stuffed with soggy bread in the menu. It was supposed to be haddock but I got Cod."

  • "A great place to recommend or to take people from away which I often do."

  • "We had a delicious dinner of mussels and bruscetta. We are a surf and turf couple so we had salmon and a chicken pepperdelle dish. Bothh were very good. Blueberry pie for dessert was flakey and full of berries."
    Dined on 8/25/2013
  • "I have been there for lunch and loved it. Food was good and the harbor view was breath taking. I thought I would try it for supper - very disappointed. The attitude of the hostess and waitress could have been much better upon initial contact. It seemed like a burden to get us seated. The food was not very good. Out of four meals, only one was acceptable. I personally had the mixed BBQ grill. I could not eat the brisket, the rib was fatty and the potato dish not fully cooked. What a shame! I will not be back for dinner."
    Dined on 8/24/2013
  • "This was our first visit and we will definitely go back. I would recommend it to anyone whether it be 2 for dinner or 20 for a special occasion. The food and the staff was great. Nothing was lacking. They have a screened in patio that you can see a view of the harbor but make reservations especially if you want to sit on the patio."

  • "Lovely setting but the food was mediocre at best. Had the "drunken lobster" after reading the recent Boston Globe review. Tiny, over-cooked lobster tail, bland sauce. Peekytoe crab cakes too dense, under-seasoned and over-cooked. Had to wait almost an hour for entrees after appetizers. Won't return."
