A word from Dockside Restaurant on York Harbor
The approach to the Dockside Restaurant is all part of the Dockside’s charm. You are treated to views of the York River and the grand “summer cottages” as you turn onto Harris Island Road to reach Dockside Restaurant.

The view is quintessential Maine, people hustling up and down the docks, gleaming yachts and colorful lobster boats in front of a rock and pine-tree shore.

Dockside is warm and comfortable. Hardwood floors, European style lighting floor to ceiling window and a new mahogany bar with an adjoining outdoor cocktail deck. During warm months seating is available on our harbor view screen porch. The atmosphere is casual but the food is serious.

Chef Dennis la Planet has been recognized as a “chef’s chef”. North Atlantic seafood prepared with a northern Italian influence and aged steaks are just the start. Lunch features organic salads, creative sandwiches and traditional favorites; fish and chips, chowders and fried clams too

I had been to The Dockside in July and the food was excellent and the service excellent. I had a friend visiting from New Jersey and even though it is an hour and half drive from my home, I was very excited to bring my friend to The Dockside. The service was very poor and the server did not know much about the menu. We both had the broiled haddock and it was overcooked and dry and the asparagus were swimming in butter. Now I love butter but I could not eat the asparagus because of the amount. No one seemed to care that the food was poor. The 4 people at the table next to us said the same thing. They had sandwiches and could not eat them. What's going on at this more than perfect setting? So disappointed.

Dining at the Dockside was a pleasant experience; we ate the catch of the day, which was one of the best fish I have ever had. The view on the bay gives this restaurant a great cachet! It can be a bit windy at night, so bringing a jacket is a good idea.

Tucked away on Harris Cove, this seasonal spot is perfect for a leisurely lunch. Nice views of the York River. Seafood chowder was perfect and not too thick. Grilled shrimp on Caesar was nice as was the battered haddock sandwich my husband enjoyed. Crisp Pinot Grigio and light airy cheesecake. Cheesecake could have been offered with more fruit than one strawberry. Overall, a nice afternoon.

We went here for our 20th Anniversary and knew we would be splurging ($$) and taking our time with the meal. We had reservations and were seated right away. The wine list was quite nice. The choices on the menu were lovely. We enjoyed that the wait staff does not hover but came when glasses were empty. The special short ribs were amazing. The steamed lobster was very good. We had such a fabulous view of the water and the boats docked nearby. It was a beautiful and enchanting evening. We had read reviews ahead of time, so we knew what to expect. We were not disappointed. Great time.

Beautiful setting and restaurant, however the food is only ok. Wine list is extremely limited with no standouts, most expensive bottle is $35. Nice, cozy bar to have a drink first. I had a fish stew and my wife had a steak dish, both were mediocre. Crab cakes also nothing to write home about. Go for the scenery and drinks.

Tuna appetizer was amazing. Service was lackluster. Chicken pasta was not great. We had a 7:30 reservation for the sunporch. We checked in 30 mins ahead of time and were told we were set for sunporch. At 7:30, we were seated, but told our waitress was just loaded with tables and we would need to be patient. We appreciated being told, but this wasn't "our problem". We were understanding and patient, but expected good service. Both fish specials were gone at 7:30. All other fish dishes on menu had shellfish (shellfish allergy). The waitress could have been more attentive. She was busy, but didn't seem to make an effort and didn't have a caring attitude. Other guests complained about her too.

Dockside Restaurant is not really "dockside" but it does offer dining on a very open feeling screened porch(no bugs to shoo away!) that looks out onto a large lawn, dock and the local harbor. Our server was attentive and friendly and we enjoyed watching a variety of boats during and after our meal as we did not feel rushed to leave. Our only disappointment was the crab cake lunch entree because the "crab" cakes were made mostly of breadcrumbs and barely any crab. The other items we ordered were fresh, tasty, and nicely presented. The restaurant is tucked away past some harbor businesses but there are small signs leading the way. We will definitely return.

This is the prettiest place in York, by far! The ambience can't be matched if you are looking for the perfect Maine view while eating quality food at a reasonable price. The menu offerings are classic with fish chowder full of light white fish and shrimp. The fried clams were tender and a nice size. I had the Caprese Sandwich with heirloom tomatoes and the well dressed micro greens tasted like there might have been baby Swiss chard which is one of my favorites. The boss was in town and wanted to go to the best place in town and we took him there for sure! Using Open Table is so convenient! My only concern was that I'd requested a porch seat and it didn't seem like the restaurant was aware of that .

Everything about the dockside is incredible except for the menu being limited with dishes that we found to be unfamiliar. Very pricey, which would be o.k. if the taste of the food wowed us. It is hard to take risks trying dishes that we don't recognize when the dishes are expensive. a larger selection and tastier food would make The Dockside the #1 place to go due to the fact that the view and awesome staff are unmatched. I feel horrible giving such a negative review on the food, but I want your restaraunt to succeed. The friendly and caring staff deserve it, and the location is awesome. The screened in porch next to the ocean is perfect. Your staff went above and beyond to make our first visit memorable.

My wife and I have been coming to Maine for over 36 years and have visited almost all of the top restaurants in the area. The experience at the dockside was extremely disappointing. My wife's entrée was a swordfish swimming in a cream sauce and it tasted as if it had been microwaved and not freshly prepared. My dish of fried clams were piled on soggy french fries in a very unappealing presentation. The service was acceptable. It is a magnificent view, however, it does not compensate for the inadequate cuisine

The wait staff were all so friendly and shared lots of info about weddings at Dockside - we can't wait for their special day.

This is a great location, with a gorgeous view of the harbor. Screened porch on the front of the dining room is perfect on a warm summer evening. Food is very good - the duck is to die for. Scallops are cooked to perfection. Beef tournedos were a little overcooked, but still very tender, and good flavor. We ended with a medley of sorbet and gelato for dessert - espresso, mango, blackberry and cherry. We couldn't decide which was the best. Service was good, and we will definitely return.

After a very hot day, we sat on a beautiful screened in porch at dusk, enjoying the warm summer evening. The wine & martini lists were plentiful. The menu was full of options that we wanted to try everything. My wife had the braised chicken & paprdelli which was cooked to perfection. I chose the Beet salad & from the specials menu, the local codfish. Both fresh & flavorful! Neither of us are big dessert eaters but we decided to share a homemade fresh blueberry pie w/ vanilla ice cream. The pie was warm and blueberries were from a local farm. The views overlooking the harbor were spectacular & as darkness fell, the fireflies came out! I would definitely recommend The Dockside to anyone looking for a romantic dinner or just a nice evening out!
