Diner Reviews
  • "We tried the seafood martini, which is definitely shareable, and agreed that if we weren't celebrating a birthday, just that and one of their salads and bread would make a great light meal. We settled on a filet and an off-menu choice - pheasant - and found them both to be prepared even better than expectations. I substituted bok choy for Brussels sprouts with the pheasant with no problem. Tuesdays have only a $1 corkage fee (versus the $15 usual) thus making that day one that we really like for bringing something from our wine cellar. And our server, Kailie (I hope I spelled that correctly) provided us with outstanding service. Thanks for the birthday card! (signed by the staff - something I've not ever seen in a restaurant before)."

  • "The overall experience was largely over shadowed by poor service; two of our three salads weren't what we ordered. The third salad was short on dressing and extra dressing was never delivered. Fruit reduction sauces were excellent and perfectly matched to the lamb and duck though the duck was a bit under cooked, rare instead of medium rare as ordered. The seafood starter was loaded with lobster, crab and scallops and the caviar cream sauce was excellent. A side of parmesan fries were cool and the second try delivered after our meal were excellent."

  • "Only a few choices but all them make it hard to decide I did the duck it was my first time and it was amazing!!"

  • "I read beaucoup reviews before selecting the Dockside Bistro for a romantic anniversary outing. Things started well: the flowers I'd ordered were waiting at our reserved table, which had an intimate view of the marina.'Twas a quiet Tuesday night: also a plus. Service staff were fresh-faced young people with smiles, an unobtrusive manner and just the right degree of friendliness. I'm not much of a wine drinker, but my wife is, and she liked the choices (I would have preferred a few craft brews, but it's a wine bar, after all). And the menu? Creative and diverse: not the usual steakhouse fare. I had their top-notch Caesar and the excellent 5-spice duck (cooked rare, even). Not huge portions, but we left plenty stuffed. Five stars, Dockside!"

  • "Dockside Bistro was a great place to dine for lunch, and I can't wait to go back and try it for dinner. Great menu, with unique touches to the food. I will definitely be back again."

  • "Olympia has only a few decent restaurants, but Dockside Bistro has first-class food. The seared scallops were the best ever tasted. Even the dinner salad was fantastic. The only regret was that we didn't find a white wine we enjoyed well enough to order any, although the waitress kindly gave us samples to choose from. Prices reflect the quality of the food, so this wouldn't be a where we'd have a casual meal, the food makes for a special occasion."

  • "The eight of us were in a private, attractive room while being attended to by two friendly, upbeat waitress. Five of us had the selected wine of the day and the halibut special which we found wonderful. My only complaint would be that the plate would have been complemented by an included vegetable. We were all so comfortable we didn't want to leave. We will be back as a group and individually. It is a class act all around."

  • "Whenever we are in town, we always dine here. The table ordered salads, crab chowder, and beef skewers for appetizers. For entrees we ordered 5spice duck, scallops, and chicken. We shared our entrees and everything was excellent . For dessert, several of us had ice cream and one person had the creme brulee. The desserts were good, but nothing to rave about. They had live music (pianist) which was a nice finishing touch to a great dining experience. We look forward to our next meal there."

  • "Excellent from appetizers to main course. Loved the unique menu using fresh local ingredients. The ambiance and waterfront view is exceptional. Only reason 4 stars for service was given was it was 25 minutes after seated that or drink order was taken while others seated after us were already being served drinks and appetizers but after initial order taken we had no other issues. Definitely will return and highly recommend Dockside Bistros!"

  • "I don't get to the Dockside as often as I should, but every time I go I thoroughly enjoy it. Had a birthday dinner there recently and the food was excellent (my special, the miso black cod, was VERY good). Staff, ambiance, everything was enjoyable."

  • "This was only my second time dining at this restaurant but both times the customer service was excellent and the food was the best my husband and I have ever had. We plan to celebrate every special occasion at this restaurant. I'm new to respond seafood and hands down I choose only to dine here for that experience."

  • "We really enjoy Dockside Bistro as their food and wines rarely disappoint. Not too fond of the added room though, a bit cold and dark."

  • "With only a dozen or so tables, a view of the water and a great wine list, we found a great place to share a quiet (excellent) meal and bottle of wine. Will return for special occasions. Not a restaurant for young kids."

  • "I was able to get reservations and my husband and I had a wonderful dinner. I ask for recomendations on a champagne and a wine and the recommendations by our server were really good. Our appetizer was very good and my salad of aspargus was really tasty. The pheasant was good but not quite as tender as I would have liked and the side dish was okay. My husband had the blackened fish and really liked it. Thank you we had a really good time."

  • "I've been to Dockside several times while traveling on business but my wife had never been there. We opted for a series of appetizers and salads following the philosophy of eating less and tasting more. Seafood martini (one of the best things I've ever tasted), crab cakes (better than most - but not my wife's), elk carpaccio (elegant with a hint of christmas tree!), and calamari (so lightly breaded) were all perfect as were our salads. The sourdough bread was also so good we had to have two servings. our waitress and waiter were always there when we needed them but never intrusive. a great meal all around."

  • "The Dockside stands head and shoulders above Anthony's or Bud Bay Cafe on Percival Landing...or anywhere in Olympia. The food is absolutely delicious... with locally procured fish, meat and veggies. Drinks are innovative and ambiance is warm and adulti-ish. Nice marina with boats right out the window. Highly recommend!"

  • "this is our favorite olympia dining experience. it's the place: to take good friends from out of town - to show off olympia; for the mother's day experience; it's the elegant jazz evening and of course talking/tasting time for farmers who lunch. Dockside Bistro has it all: ambiance, great & interesting waitstaff, excellent menu, the right sound level, comfy booths and of course beautifully prepared and presented food. we had a 3 hour lunch the other day - an elegant get-away for the afternoon."

  • "We had several special dietary needs and received wonderful personalized attention. You called us a couple of days before our reservation to make sure that you would be prepared for us. When we arrived the hostess and waiter were both aware of our needs and had discussed them with the chef. This was exceptional service and greatly appreciated. It is the kind of thing that will bring back customers."

  • "Our company christmas party was aewsome! We were seated in the private dining room which was so beautiful. We had plenty of room to mingle and also to do our gift exchange. Our waiter was very attentive and the food was spectacular. The seared duck was very good.Several of the staff had the Sea Scallops and they raved about them as was the crab chowder. Perfect food for a cold winter evening. The special on the dessert menu was Key Lime pie and I must say that topped off the night. Fresh cream on top was delightful. Thank you all so much for making our evening extra special! Lori Woodland Owner Abbey Capitol Floors & Interiors"

  • "Top notch culinary delight. Very consistent through many visits. All entries prepared perfectly. Same staff in the restaurant makes it even more pleasant. House cocktails are very well made and unique. Probably the best restaurant outside of Tacoma downtown. If you like Pacific Grill in Tacoma, Dockside Bistro will beat that."

  • "The restaurant was quiet on a week night with all tables having a view of the bay. Service was attentive without being overbearing, . The wine list is extensive, with some $20 bottle specials on Thursday night. We shared the seafood martini appetizer which is served hot, much to our surprise. Delicious!! The goat cheese salad was excellent with just the right amount of tang to the dressing without overpowering the cheese and greens. Entrees of elk and halibut were equally enjoyable. After an excellent explanation of the Jack Daniels ice cream I gave it a try and found it to be exactly as described and very tasty. I am planning a return visit for lunch. For coffee drinkers, try the fresh ground French pressed coffee."

  • "A group of 5 had dinner together. Two had the duck, two halibut and one steak. All meals were well prepared as ordered and the servicers were attentive and helpful. Definitely a good meal and worth repeating. The cheese plate appetizer was a nice bonus."

  • "There is no better food in Olympia than at the Dockside Bistro, always fresh, incredibly prepared with stellar service. That said, it is very expensive for our little town and though I'd love to go more than once or twice a year I cannot possibly afford it. 12 dollars for 4 oysters Rockefeller and 10 dollars for a side salad is super steep, in addition to a $28 entree. I'd probably visit more often if the prices came down about 15 %."

  • "The people at my table tried two appetizers, five different entrees, and one dessert. All were excellent. Service was a bit slow on a Friday evening."

  • "The service was very good throughout the evening. Appetizer: Scallop and Pork Belly with quail egg; scallop was perfect; pork belly was very good. Entrees: Filet Mignon: She said it was the best she's ever had -- I had a bite and thought it was really good, cooked perfectly. Elk Duet: I'd give it 8 or 9/10. Not the best thing I've ever had but I was not disappointed in any way. Again, the cut of elk, cooked perfectly. Dessert: Key lime pie: good but wished crust was graham Creme Brulee: garnished with strawberry was nice addition; slight hint of orange liquor, but about what one would expect when ordering creme brulee"
