  • "Docks Oyster Bar and Grill is actually a first class seafood restaurant conveniently located at the NE corner of Third Avenue and 40-th street, very close to Grand Central Station. It features a large menu strongly weighted towards fish and sea food. The portions are generous and the quality always excellent. The art deco decor is beautiful and the tables are placed sufficiently far apart so that dining is a pleasure and not a jammed experience as in so many popular restaurants in NYC. Highly recommended."

  • "Repeat customer. For seafood, Dock's is superior to its closest rival the Grand Central Oyster Bar. The food is just better all around and the service is always A1! You won't be disappointed. If you are disappointed then you should probably have gone to Peter Luger's instead for a steak since you obviously hate seafood. Worth every penny!"

  • "My girlfriend and I went for dinner because we were looking for oysters. This place had them, and the oysters were good. But that was the only good thing about this place. Our waitress was VERY slow and barely paid attention to us. And when we asked another server about the food, they couldn't tell us anything. I tried the special, which was a cod and it was NOT anything to get excited or pay so much for. My girlfriend had the lobster roll, which was standard. Other reviews rated this place high, but they must have gone on a good day because this was simply not worth the money."

  • "Took a friend to Docks during her visit to NYC. Great venue for Sunday brunch. Jazz band was playing when we went. Made for a great atmosphere - wasn't too noisy either. It's a large venue so can accommodate the sound. Lots of people there in groups for special occasions. Our waitress was excellent, keeping us in mimosas and with a smile every time. We both had the lobster omlette which was great and a generous size. Couldn't finish it all in the end. Coffee and mini muffins flowed too."

  • "Loved the pri fix meals. 2 lobsters and all the seafood you want. Divine!!!!"

  • "My husband loved the raw shellfish tray but the clams linguine were tasteless! I had to ask for chili flakes to give it flavor."

  • "Quality is there, but you have a lot of more better Restaurants in NY. We had, my husband and me, expected much more."

  • "We booked a table for lunch time on Sunday at 1pm, great building with a lovely Art Deco interior and a cool jazz trio in the corner - a great start, however it all went down hill from there. In a nut shell - do not come here for lunch when they're serving brunch. I'm guessing the brunch kitchen team are different to the dinner team as they weren't able to cook the fish dishes we'd ordered, had we not been on a tight timeline to get to the airport 2 of the main courses would have been sent back. That said the oysters were excellent (no cooking needed!) and the brunch being served around us looked very good. Go for brunch, not for lunch,"

  • "My wife and I loved the service and quality seafood appetizer for 2. The waiter was extremely attentive without being annoying or distracting. The entrees were okay but the seafood appetizer was what we were their for and it didn't disappoint."

  • "I was lucky enough to have a birthday dinner here with a friend. Everything from oysters to dessert was fabulous."

  • "You only survive in NYC in a large venue if the food is consistent, tasty and service is good. Dock's meets all requirements to be a long time NYC establishment. Recommend it for seafood"

  • "We took my Aunt here for her 85th birthday luncheon today. Service for the seven members of our party was very efficient and friendly. We had calamari, oysters, tuna, lobster rolls, caesar salad and New England clam chowder. Everyone said their meals were excellent. I had the lobster roll which contained a generous portion of tender, sweet lobster. I must also mention that the Guinness was the best I have tasted in many years. Our waiter was kind enough to bring out a small piece of wonderful chocolatey cake with a candle on it for my Aunt. This was our second trip to Docks and it remains a favorite of my Aunt's. She has been coming here for many years."

  • "We came for Sat brunch, and the muffins were delicious. We had bottomless mimosas and bloody marys (some were a little more watered down than others). The service was invisible and we had to keep calling the hostess to ask for our drinks. The best part of the meal was the fried seafood platter. The not so great part was the New England Omeletter which was supposed to have ricotta cheese and crab in it...could hardly find the cheese and the crab was nonexistent. Disappointing for service and some of the food and drinks."

  • "We have been there several times for the Sunday Jazz brunch. One of our favorite brunch spots. Large open space with tables spread out nicely . Staff is always friendly & attentive. The music is at a level that does not interfere with conversation. Great pre fix brunch selection with bottomless champagne or mimosas ."

  • "We specifically picked this restaurant because of the variety of dishes seafoods, sushi and steak. However, seafood dish was just okay for me. My choice was trout stuffed with mushrooms was not delectable at all and I ended up not eating half of what I ordered. Calamari appetizer was just okay... I've had better. Overall for me the experience was okay, nothing that blew me away. The ambiance and location was great. A lot of crowds walk in and there is a very vibrant bar scene."

  • "Docks has really great seafood in a really nice setting."

  • "I'm new to NYC. Three of us went on a Saturday evening. The ambience is very nice, very clean, and not too noisy. We were greeted quickly by our waiter, got bread and water, but then waited about 15 minutes until we saw him again. The crab soup was average, and the Caeser salad was OK, but nothing special, and portion a bit small. Entree's of fish were quite good. The waiter deboned by Sole at the table expertly. So, overall, the food was good, but nothing special. Thus, the price of $260 (with tip) was pretty steep for what we got. Of note, the wines appear to be marked up 100% over retail (we got one of the less expensive on the list and it still came in at about $60). I probably will shop around for another place for my next fish meal."

  • "Went there with a group of friends for birthday celebration. Everything was nice enough but didn't feel special...rim was to noisey so couldn't really have a conversation. Oysters were really good but really expensive...waitress didn't mention the price as it was not listed on the menu...neither did she mention the price of the lobster."

  • "I wasn't halfway done with my appetizer and they came out with our entres, then saw we were still eating so asked if we wanted to wait for entres, clearly yes, then once we were done with the appetizers we waited a long time for the entres to come back."

  • "It is really a business lunch kind of place, with a very lively bar. I met a retired friend there because the location worked for us. Service is always impeccable, and food is usually excellent. This time, however, I tried the Cobb salad, and it was nothing like what I expected. The separate ingredients were all separated on the plate, and there were no green leafy parts. Presentation was attractive, but it was hardly the healthy choice I had envisioned."

  • "Really enjoyed having dinner at this restaurant. The seafood was very good!"

  • "The fish is superb. The wines are very good. But the service, time and again, has been from bad to worse. We come fairly regularly. Every time, one of us has had to go to search down the waiter or waitress who, after taking the food order, disappears. Becasue it is not an inexpensive restaurant, that is just unacceptable and we are looking for somewhere with both superb fish and good service in place of Docks."

  • "The ambience of Dock's is nice but far outshines the service. Overall the bartenders and servers were not attentive - everything seemed very impersonal. I would recommend the calamari which was very flavorful and not too heavy. Apart from that the food was mostly forgettable. We had the salmon and the curry-dusted yellowfin tuna. Not bad, but not great. Wine selection was pretty limited."

  • "Our waitress was fair not attentive and not very friendly. When I communicates this to the hostess no action was taken! Did enjoy the oysters"

  • "Docks is what the GCT Oyster Bar should be. The fish is pristine. The preparations straightforward and well executed. Great service overseen by one of the best Maitre D's in the business. Perfect spot for a business lunch or a nice dinner before getting on MetroNorth. I am a huge fan."

  • "My fiancee and I had brunch at Docks on 2/23/13. We had a 12:00 reservation and were seated immediately in a great window seat. The server was fantastic, the band was lovely, the food was good, and we got our money's worth from the bottomless mimosas."

  • "Have come here a few times. Depending on the your server, you will either enoy it or not. This time, it was impossible to get our server's attention. We waited forever for water and cocktails. Meanwhile the table next to us came in later than we did had water and champagne before we even got water. Couldnt get wine on time with our meal - it was was halfway over before the wine came... The moment our appetizers were done, the main course was brought out- not even a few minutes in-between... The bay scallops were excellent. The crab cake was nothing special. The '2 pound' lobster was tiny. The prior time we came, our server was great...so we are ambivalent about whether we will come back. ,"

  • "I return to Docks frequently because the food is delicious, well priced, good portions (my seafood cobb was enough for 2 meals) and terrific and attentive servers and support servers. It's great that when you ask for a lemon or an extra side-salad dressing that it comes in a timely manner so you can actually use it. Also appreciate the check-in, reservation confirms and front of house. Docks is conveniently located between my office and one of my big clients so after 8 years, when we have time for lunch, we don't even say "where" it's Docks."
