A word from DOC Wine Bar - Lombard

Welcome to D.O.C Wine Bar - Lombard. We are elated to serve you as your neighborhood wine bar and bistro. We believe that wine is the "nectar of the gods" and should be enjoyed by all, novices and connoisseurs alike.

While we take what we do seriously, first and foremost, we believe drinking wine should be fun. It is our goal to offer a large variety of wine spanning the globe without any of the factors that may cause intimidation and hinder your enjoyment.

Established in 1963 and implemented in 1966, the Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) ("Controlled Denomination of Origin") is Italy's equivalent to France's APPELLATION D'ORIGINE CONTRÔLÉE. DOC's are defined by the geographic area of production for each wine, the varieties that can be used, the minimum alcohol content, the maximum yield, and the specifications for aging.

The food and service is great, but was disappointed in the size of their wine pours. I got the nicest wine flight for $24 and don't think I even got a full glass of wine between the 3 samples. Had to get another glass of wine and ended spending more than I would have liked.

I'm a big wine drinker but my date is not. Our waitress was great about helping him pick out a wine flight that he might like. She also explained many of the different cheeses and other items on their butcher block (I think that's what it's called?). The bar itself is awesome, with two "layers" of amazing wine storage. Very cool looking place. Plus it wasn't too crowded (I love the suburbs).

This was our first time at your restaurant, and both loved it! The food, the wine, and the very personable & knowledgeable bartender. The only aspect of our experience that was subpar was our server. She wasn't bad, just really didn't have much of a personality...or even a smile. We were very friendly people, and wished to have someone equally friendly. We will definitely be returning, and quite often I think! The brussel sprout salad was AMAZING!!!

D.O.C. is a great go-to spot in the western suburbs. Our server was exceptionally helpful with our wine selection. He allowed us to taste our first choice because it was sold by the glass...he had been "conservative" in his praise for our initial choice and when we tasted it we totally agreed! It fell short of what we wanted which was something worthy of our celebration of a birthday and friendship. We landed on a phenomenal selection, albeit more expensive, but worth every penny. Our food was excellent as always and the mushroom risotto fritters are memorable and delicious! I have never been disappointed at D.O.C. Yorktown, and I've attended several private events there as well. Love it!

We were treated with courtesy promptly. Our waitress was 100%. The food was wonderful inexpensive. But of course the wine was another story, not just overpriced, but beyond that. I did not expect such inexpensive food, though good, it seemed more casual than we expected for my birthday.

The food was good. Had rigatoni, mashed potatoes and bruschetta. However, like some others said on here, the service was awful. Considering there were at least 4 servers and a manager in a place that small, it should have been on point. Won't be going back.

Delicious choices of meats, cheeses and bruschetta's. You won't leave hungry! The one critique I would have is to offer more accompaniments (like honey, almonds, apricot preserves, etc.) and unlimited bread and crackers and olive oil. These would make a nice addition to the butcher's plate. We felt bad asking for refills on bread and crackers but you really only get three small pieces of baguette for a large platter. Otherwise, amazing choices and fantastic atmosphere. We will be back again! Thanks!

I was so pleased with DOC Wine Bar that I went back to eat there again two days after my first visit. I thought the atmosphere was very pleasant. The food was so good! The appetizers, entrees, and desserts were excellent! I highly recommend this restaurant. The only con was that the service was a little slow, but I would still go back. I am a frequent guest of DOC Wine Bar. I love the food, wine, ambiance, & the fact you can eat outside. It's a great place in it's location because it's different than the rest of the restaurants in the area. But each time, I swear the service gets worse and worse. I'm a relaxed restaurant-visitor. I like to take my time, enjoy being out, etc. But my Mom and I were seated outside and it took 15 min for the waitress to come back and even acknowledge we might want to order a beverage? We did, and another 15-20 min goes by. Finally we ask the hostess for our waitress and she comes out with a different bottle than we ordered. She came back a total of 3x the rest of our 2 hour visit. to order-to bring food-and for the check. Very disappointing.

New to the area my boyfriend and I wanted to have a little date night so we made a reservation at DOC and we were very impressed! Their wine list is amazing, the ambiance is on point, and they have a surprisingly great variety for food. My boyfriend is not as big of a wine enthusiast as I am but he was satisfied with their full bar and beer list. Also, our server was awesome she checked on us often, the good arrived quickly and our water glasses were always full. Definitely check this place out!

We brought our 98 year old grandfather to the restaurant and we let them know ahead of time that we would need a handicap accessible table. From the moment we got out of the car the hostess had opened the door for our grand father and our table was ready even though we were early. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable with excellent suggestions and he also overheard that it was one of our party's birthday and completely unprompted brought her a dessert. He went above and beyond in the little details which makes a difference between good service and great service. Definitely recommend.

I was blown away by the attentive service staff - not overpowering. The food was delicious. I had the butcher block of 4 items. Great choices to get a nice eclectic mix for a resonable price. Cheeses, bruchetta choices, and variety of meats. My four were the Duck Breast, Apple/Brie bruschetta, Champaign Cured Salmon w fraiche bruschetta, and Roasted mushroom herb bruschetta. So yummy and a nice wine choice. Great deals too. We went on 1/2 price glass of wine day.

Outstanding menu choices and a great wine list always makes for a fun visit to DOC. The hardest thing to do is deciding what to order. Family, short rib tacos, shaved brussel sprout flatbread and a banana beignet made for a great father's day! The free glass of wine was a nice touch too!

  • But It Says You Have That Wine
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011
    Dined on 6/6/2014
This is on of our favorite spots BUT in a place like this when a menu says it has a bottle of wine for sale and you don't, it's a major disappointment. Neither the server nor the manager could find the bottle and we could overhear the manager say we haven't had that forever, where did they get that from? "From our wine book" "which wine book?" The wine lists should be updated all the time. Our server was great but the Friday night manager never came by to apologize or acknowledge the confusion.

The wife and I just wanted to get out for the evening. Have some wine and some food. I wanted a nice place, with good ambience, where we could talk and enjoy ourselves. We both really enjoyed DOC very much. The wine was great and we ordered from the Butchers Plate. Cheese, Bruschetta and meats. You can order each single or a combo of 4 or 8. So we samples 3 cheeses, 3 bruschetta & 2 meats. Everything was fantastic. The roasted mushroom, fresh herb and goat cheese bruschetta was out of this world. Our server was a nice guy, Very helpful & not overbearing. My only “con” for this place was the noise level. It was a little louder than I had hoped for. So I felt like I was talking loud. After some of the people cleared out it was much better.

I had a group of 7 come out for my birthday. No complaints on the food, but when we first arrived it probably took about 20 minutes from the time I ordered a glass of wine until I actually had it in my hand. That seemed to be the trend of the night, every time we ordered drinks jt took forever. How hard is it to pour a glass of wine?! Our server was also kind of bizarre... I don't know if he didn't want to be working or he just has odd mannerisms but the service from him was not good. He asked my brother how everything was going and when my brother started to speak to ask for the check he walked away. My brother waited 15 minutes then had to get up to find him to wait another 15 min for our check. Great food, poor service.

we were pleasantly surprised at this suburban restaurant located in the Yorktown mall. I had the roasted brussel sprouts with bacon and capers and also the bacon wrapped dates. My Wife & I have dined at DOC dozens of times and usually simply walk in. On this occasion we decided to book a table through Open Table, wish we had not. When initially greeted the Hostess grabbed two menus and headed into the dining room, until I mentioned our Open Table reservation. At this point the Hostess turned back from the dining room and ushered us into the back room. The back room is ok however we were the only people in the entire room while 2/3 of the tables in the dining room remained empty. Very odd experience...felt like Lepers.

It seems that I always go to DOC for lunch with my girlfriends, rarely for dinner. It's a great place for a weekday lunch with a friend - not crowded and very quiet, allows you to catch up. The servers allow you to set and chat and never rush you to get out. I met a friend this week and I ordered "The Greatest Grilled Cheese" with a side of Tomato Basil soup and my friend had the Margherita Flatbread Pizza and the soup as well. I liked my sandwich, but my friend thought it was a bit bland. The flatbread was tasty, but the toppings left the bottom soggy; I like my flatbread pizzas to be crisp. I'm not a fan of tomato soup, but I let my server talk me into it. I wasn't a fan, much too acidic. I've enjoyed the food much more in past visits.

I've come here about 4-5 times and every time I'm never disappointed. The staff is always friendly and knowledgable. The food is excellent, the butchers plate feeds 3-4 comfortably and it makes splitting a bottle of wine with girlfriends much more affordable. Between the Lombard and the Chicago location I would pick Lombard because the selection is bigger. The place is overall bigger and the staff at Lombard is muchore attentive and helpful when trying to decide.
