A word from DOC Wine Bar - Lombard

Welcome to D.O.C Wine Bar - Lombard. We are elated to serve you as your neighborhood wine bar and bistro. We believe that wine is the "nectar of the gods" and should be enjoyed by all, novices and connoisseurs alike.

While we take what we do seriously, first and foremost, we believe drinking wine should be fun. It is our goal to offer a large variety of wine spanning the globe without any of the factors that may cause intimidation and hinder your enjoyment.

Established in 1963 and implemented in 1966, the Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) ("Controlled Denomination of Origin") is Italy's equivalent to France's APPELLATION D'ORIGINE CONTRÔLÉE. DOC's are defined by the geographic area of production for each wine, the varieties that can be used, the minimum alcohol content, the maximum yield, and the specifications for aging.

  • "we were pleasantly surprised at this suburban restaurant located in the Yorktown mall. I had the roasted brussel sprouts with bacon and capers and also the bacon wrapped dates. My companion had the build your own charcuterie. We both enjoyed the food. We had planned on splitting a burger as well but had to cancel it as these appetizers were quite filling. Good craft beer. nice ambience, nice wine list. "

  • "My title says it all! Chorizo stuffed dates wrapped in bacon are so savory and delicious! DOC is a must-go just for these. The butcher's plates are also great for sharing."

  • "This wine bar is an intimate restaurant and at a great location. The service was great as well. I definitely suggest making reservations because the restaurant is popular."

  • "My Wife & I have dined at DOC dozens of times and usually simply walk in. On this occasion we decided to book a table through Open Table, wish we had not. When initially greeted the Hostess grabbed two menus and headed into the dining room, until I mentioned our Open Table reservation. At this point the Hostess turned back from the dining room and ushered us into the back room. The back room is ok however we were the only people in the entire room while 2/3 of the tables in the dining room remained empty. Very odd experience...felt like Lepers."

  • "It seems that I always go to DOC for lunch with my girlfriends, rarely for dinner. It's a great place for a weekday lunch with a friend - not crowded and very quiet, allows you to catch up. The servers allow you to set and chat and never rush you to get out. I met a friend this week and I ordered "The Greatest Grilled Cheese" with a side of Tomato Basil soup and my friend had the Margherita Flatbread Pizza and the soup as well. I liked my sandwich, but my friend thought it was a bit bland. The flatbread was tasty, but the toppings left the bottom soggy; I like my flatbread pizzas to be crisp. I'm not a fan of tomato soup, but I let my server talk me into it. I wasn't a fan, much too acidic. I've enjoyed the food much more in past visits."

  • "The food was very good! Every meal we had was very tasty! The service was a little slower, there was a lot of chit chatting amoung the servers. But once it picked up in the restaurant, it seemed like our server was a little quicker."

  • "I've come here about 4-5 times and every time I'm never disappointed. The staff is always friendly and knowledgable. The food is excellent, the butchers plate feeds 3-4 comfortably and it makes splitting a bottle of wine with girlfriends much more affordable. Between the Lombard and the Chicago location I would pick Lombard because the selection is bigger. The place is overall bigger and the staff at Lombard is muchore attentive and helpful when trying to decide."

  • "The food, wine and service were awesome. For the appetizer, you have got to try the polenta--it was delicious. We had changed our order from the polenta to the fries and the waiter was kind enough to bring out a sample of the polenta for us to try. The garlic aioli that was served with it was so delicious and the waiter was so sweet and got the recipe for me from the kitchen. For lunch, there were so many good choices on the menu. We ordered the burger and it did not disappoint! It was a great experience and we will absolutely go back there."

  • "My party of four were first time diners and we found the food to be good, nothing exceptional. The service was a little slow. Had the salmon, crabcakes, and mashed potates not been so, so salty and the chocolate chip cookie been cooked the rating and dining experience would have been so much more. We liked the delectable delfina potatoes, the chicken saltimbocca, moscato wine and the toasted almond cocktails. Willing to try it again with hopes of more balanced seasoning and better service."

  • "This was our first time at DOC and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was exceptional, and the half-price wine flights on Sunday were a good bargain."

  • "Really enjoyed this place. Nice selections for charcuterie board, nice wine list with interesting wine flights and good cocktails. Food for dinner was good, but slightly overpriced for the overall value in the suburbs. Priced more like a downtown Chicago restaurant, but it's located in the restaurants around a mall instead. That being said, ambience is still quite nice."

  • "Great spot for the young professionals. Menu limited but food good. Very loud. Large choice of wine."

  • "This place has wonderful wine and a great butcher's plate. We went and ordered the large butcher plate in which you can mix and match meats, cheeses and various types of bruschettas. It all comes with great bread, flat bread crackers and an apricot jam. We were two people and did not order any entrees since the platter was more than enough food for us. Great place - I have been here a number of times over the last few years and the butcher's platter has been consistently good."

  • "Tons of wine to pick from. Food here is awesome! Service is always lacking. That is the only element this place needs to change."

  • "DOC is one of our favorite spots for a few glasses of wine and charcuterie before the AMC Premium theatre at Yorktown. They have a large wine selection, cheeses, meats, and appetizers which we enjoy for an early dinner."

  • "I was very surprised and overly pleased at how good the food and wine was. I've been to wine bars that use wine more as a "theme" than a true focus, which was not the case here. Additionally, the food was very good and surpassed my expectations. We had the roasted brussel sprouts and cauliflower app, filet and ahi sliders, and the skillet cookie for dessert. All were delicious and comparable to a nice restaurant in the city. I would absolutely go back for both the food and wine. The atmosphere was nice with a darker, wine bar feel, but the booths and tables made it a bit less "lounge-like" and more like a restaurant. Service was good."

  • "This was our first time at DOC Wine Bar and we loved it!! The food was excellent - we ordered a few apps and shared and one was better than the next from the "Filet Trio" to the Flatbreads - Apple and Brie!! Highly recommend!!"

  • "Great ambience and drinks but I was not a huge fan of what I ordered (risotto). My fiance got the curry, though, and he really liked it. My sister and brother-in-law went and ordered a couple other items and really liked it, so it depends what you order. I'm vegetarian so I bet the fish and meat are probably good."

  • "We ordered the large Butchers Platter, with 8 choices of cheese, meat or bruschetta . We were surprised at how small the portions were considering the price. The bruschetta was only one slice of bread, w toppings, cut in half! The selections on the platter were good , but not fantastic . We had to ask for more bread. The cheese selected was a minuscule portion as well. An order of calamari fried, was overlooked and flavorless. The flat bread w Brussels sprouts and bacon was the redeeming item. Very good, crisp & flavorful. Good wine, nice atmosphere."

  • "I went to the Doc Wine Bar for the first time this past Friday. I was very pleasantly surprised with the decor and comfort of the booths. The lighting was low which is relaxing and the beautiful wood floors and wood bar added more to the ambience. The wine list is very extensive, more then I have seen in most wine bars which was great for any palette. I only can comment negatively on the food. Don't order the bruscetta. Excluding the food, this is a great place to come for wine and conversation."

  • "Not our best experience at DOC Wine Bar. We enjoy coming on Monday nights because with 1/2 price bottles, we get an opportunity to experiment without breaking the bank. Our server informed us that our first bottle selection was out of stock and recommended a substitute which was $13.00 more - we agreed but were disappointed none-the-less, we didn't get to try to wine we wanted to and ended up paying more for the one we did get."

  • "Food was okay. Slightly better than bar food. They had a decent wine list and beer selections. Everything we are was decent, but nothing exceptional. This was the second time I went, and I liked it better the first time."

  • "I had been to the restaurant before, but my husband hadn't. I was happy that he enjoyed it so much. Our server, Paul, was great and gave us good suggestions. The wine we chose wasn't available, but he offered a great substitution. We had the butcher's plate with 8 choices of various salamis and cheeses and everything was very tasty. There was a wide selection to choose from. The restaurant is decorated with comfortable sophistication and makes for a nice setting. Plenty of outdoor seating for a lovely evening."

  • "As you would expect from a wine bar, wine list was extensive. It was as expensive as one would find in fine dining restaurants. We were impressed by the butcher block offerings which we enjoyed as an appetizer.....meat, cheese, and bruschetta selections were outstanding! For the main course, I chose the beef short-rib tacos which were a disaster. There were only the tiniest bits of well-done, dry short-rib meat in the bottom of the taco. My side choice was an Asian slaw which seemed to be cabbage out of a bag and was very under-dressed. Desert was good. We will only be back when we want to only enjoy an appetizer and glass of wine."
