  • "I moved to the city in January and have been bopping around to different restaurants trying to find my new favorite in my new city. I can honestly say this is it! I love the atmosphere, the service was amazing- I'm kicking myself for not remembering our server's name, she was working on the night of Easter Sunday and she was just lovely. Some friends were in from out of town for a birthday celebration and we wanted American and Italian and couldn't decide on one so we went for Dobbs Ferry because the menu has great options for both. I had the rollatini, it was amazing. And the duck pastrami that was part of the meat plate? Insanely good. The arancini- my god... I'm drooling. You get the idea. I loved it. I can't wait to come back. "

The restaurant still could be noisy if packed, though, because of the modern trend for hard furnishings everywhere. The portions were very generous indeed."

  • "This is the third time I have dined at Dobbs Ferry, and every time has been very good. It is convenient to the SF Symphony and Opera, and the wait staff always asks if you are attending a performance to make sure you are done in plenty of time. The food specials are creative and well prepared. This place is turning into a regular for me when going to see performances at Davies Hall."

  • "The other night I got the Putanesca pizza and my friend got another dish which he usually orders. Full of tomatoes and cheese, my pizza did look really good so he wanted to try it. He ate almost all of it while trading me parts of his meal for pieces of mine. So I can say that the Putanesca pizza is a favorite of BOTH of us. Really, really good."

  • "The food was WONDERFUL and the service was EXCELLENT!! There were four people in our party and we shared portions of different entrees. The Pete's Meatball was very good, pizza with sausage and hot cherry peppers was good plus spicy, the rollatini was also very good. Our wine from the bottle list complimented our meal and was good. We would have liked to order dessert but needed to be on time for a show."

  • "The staff was very friendly and attentive, but we were extremely disappointed in the quality of the food. A couple of us had the beet salad, which was very nice. Three of us ordered the Orecchiette: braised beef short rib, leeks, maitake mushrooms, parmesan cream and herbs. It was basically flavorless! There were only a few tiny shreds of beef short rib present, which had no taste. It was in a heavy cream sauce which dominated the flavor of the entire dish. None of us finished our meal. Two others had the halibut. Both were under done. Two had the Rabbit, which was the special of the night. Unfortunately it was over done and dried out. Another person ordered Pete's meatballs. They were just ok. Unfortunately, we won't be returning."

  • "DF provided the perfect setting for our group of 6. The service was extremely attentive. The food was very good with some exciting dishes offered. The offerings covered meat eaters, fish, pasta and more casula pizza appetites. The entrance was a bit confusing as the establishment has a "U" shaped floor plan with entrances on Hayes (through the bar) and another entrance on Gough also through a bar. We entered on Hayes Street. While the bartender could have pointed us to the restaurant entrance through the bar, he came around and walked us through the doorway, held the door open and provided us with a very warm welcome. What a great start to a very enjoyable evening in a comfortable, casual yet upscale feeling place."

  • "I have enjoyed several lunches/brunches and dinners at Dobbs Ferry before Ballet or Symphony but this week my guest and I both noticed how heavy everything was with potatoes. My baked eggs were delicious but they came with big fried potatoes and her mushroom hash consisted of few sliced mushrooms with the same large fried potatoes - certainly not the "hash" she or I had in mind! there is only one salad on the current menu as well. We hope that changes with the new spring weather!"

  • "We keep coming back before every ballet because without fail the food, service, and ambiance are perfect! . The hostesses, servers, and managers are very friendly and make us feel welcome and appreciated! We usually have a few favorites like the beet salad and chips & dip and then try something new as well. Highly recommend the Arancinis and the Orecchiette! We are fortunate to have Bobby as our server. He seems to always know exactly what we want, before we know it ourselves! . We have never been disappointed, and we can't wait to go back again!"

THe food was actually really good - the pasta we got was creamy but not heavy, and the arancini was delicious! overall, definitely a good find."

  • "I was kept waiting a few minutes while the hostess chatted and laughed with 3 young women who appeared to be friends of her. She continued also to ignore the fact that the patrons were coming in quickly after me and basically piling up at the door. She finally passed me off to someone else who arrived from the back room and who led me to the table where my friend was waiting. That set a very sour note that was mercifully not repeated in the service given by our waiter who was terrific. We had the halibut which was prepared beautifully and was very good."

Both good although I found the octopus very chewy. The asparagus salad was also flavorful. Along with the outstanding chicken, we also had the orrechiete and the too peppery Brussels sprouts. Overall, a tasty meal!"

  • "I had hoped this restaurant would be of a higher caliber this close to Civic Center and the symphony, opera, etc. Alas, it is not to be. No table cloths, which gives the place a decidedly bistro air, and poor quality flatware that was not placed correctly. Many places do not use salad forks. If you are going to use them, do not expect your patrons to eat their main course with them. The colorful crowd was the highlight of this establishment. I was pleased they offered and successfully transferred my bar tab to my table - not many places do that these days. The food was just okay. Speed of service was good, although they over-polled on how everything was once you were served - asking no less than 3 times in 5 minutes."
