Diner Reviews
  • "My favourite Korean. A bit pricey for what you get but so much more civilized than K Town. I'm a sucker for interior design and I love the space."

  • "Had a good Happy Hour, was quiet with plenty of sitting. great experience"

  • "The food is generally good, but the service was very slow and not attentive. The back part of the dining is extremely noisy; impossible to maintain a normal conversation. Too bad."

  • "I've been coming to Do Hwa for years, and they've always had solid service, delicious food, and great cocktails."

  • "It's been a long time since my wife and I went to Do Hwa (we used to live closer to the neighborhood), but we've gone again a couple of times, and it is as wonderful as it ever was."

  • "The waitress had a terrible attitude from the moment we sat down. This was a neighborhood restaurant for me but I will not return. The food isn't good enough to put up with the rude service."

  • "This was my first disappointing experience at Do Hwa. I've been there several times without hesitation, but the food and service took a big nosedive on this recent visit. I'm hoping it was an aberration as I've long been a fan."

  • "I'm Korean...and this is probably the best Korean restaurant in Manhattan. Very close to my mother's cooking. This place is better than any restaurant in NYC KTown. True."

  • "We reserved a grill table and did not get it. The interiors and the ambience in general make it not worth it if not for the grill."

  • "The flavors at Do Hwa will knock your taste bud socks off. It's very loud on a Friday night, but that's to be expected. The food is extraordinary."

  • "Best Korean food Ihave ever had…fresh and traditional with a foodie slant!"

  • "I've been there only twice. 1st with friends and 2nd time with my girlfriend and it was so great. This restaurant is awesome for healthy good food. The best is the grill table you are making your own bbq.. A little bit expensive but so great you won't regret"

  • "Just was expecting to have a good night grilling and introducing some friends to Korean food. Despite my request we didn't get a grill table. I realize that they say that they cannot accommodate every request for a grill table, but it would be at least nice if they inform us that it wouldn't be the case ahead of time so we can make other choices if we would like to. Or even letting us know that it would be very unlikely etc. The service was super star level. They didn't drop all the food at once, but they were very attentive. The food was great; however, don't expect anything but tourist-level of hot. Otherwise I have no complaints."

  • "Went for my birthday dinner with my boyfriend. He was only given one chopstick and a spoon to eat so he asked for another chopstick. We had ordered beef dumplings which tasted like chicken and veggie dumplings but the chopstick never arrived for my bf to start eating. 10 minutes later we ended up having to ask the bus boy/ guy that brought us our entries who finally brought him another chopstick right away. We ordered the beef bulgogi from the kitchen which was overly salty and the classic bimbop which was all vegetables and had barely any rice. Best thing from our meal was my pepper margarita and the sweet oranges we got at the end of our meal. I typically love Korean food but worst birthday dinner ever!"

  • "I have been here a couple of times and am always happy with what I get. Great cocktails and lovely food. Service is always excellent and I love the snacks that they bring out before the meal. The barbeque is definitely my favorite... so be sure to pick one of those."

  • "Do Hwa is a great find if you're a fan of Korean barbecue. It has all of the amazing flavors and fun of the more traditional restaurants but with a modern flare. The staff is extremely pleasant and the decor is hip. It's the perfect dinner for a foursome in search of something a bit different. Make certain to mention you want a barbecue table when you're making your reservation."

  • "Food arrived very quickly (almost too quick). Ingredients were very fresh and flavors were excellent. Excellent beer list and drink menu for an Asian restaurant."

  • "My Korean friend visited from Korea and we wanted to have a real Korean food with an expert. I looked up Open Table and I found this restaurant. The dinning room was chic and quiet that we could enjoy our conversation as well as great meals, our friend from Seoul said very good. We'll come to this restaurant whenever we have a chance. Strongly recommend."

  • "Went to Do Wha to celebrate a birthday. Service was excellent, the price was right and the menu for 4 is the bomb."

  • "The food at Do Hwa is always amazing & our out-of-town guests were raving about it for days. But despite our reservation, we had to wait over 1/2 hour for our table. The hostess was a bit squirrelly about the status of the table, telling us various contradictory things each time she spoke with us--she wanted us to be happy sitting at the bar, which we would have been had we not made a reservation and made plans around that time! Eventually apps arrived, complimentary, which is a very nice gesture, though as they came the table opened up; if we'd been greeted with "the table is going to be thirty minutes so please sit at the bar and chose an app on us" the outcome would have been the same but we would have been able to enjoy the wait more."

  • "The place is nice looking and the food was good. We had the HEYMUL PAJUN which came a little burnt on one side. A bit disappointing since it's one of the pricier appetizers but we asked for another and the second one was very yummy. For the entree's we had the classic and steak bimimbop - both good but not great. Service. . .eh. The young lady couldn't seem to work up a smile, unless of course, you were her friends who happen to be sitting next to us. I can't knock them for the noise level because I really don't see how they can control it, but I figured I'd mention it in case you're looking for a nice quiet place. . . . this is not it. Think school cafeteria."

  • "I have been to Do Hwa many times and had very good experiences, but on Saturday I was there with 3 other friends for dinner. Although we had made reservations for a table of 4, we were seated one hour late, with little information on when we would be seated. After finally getting seated and placing our orders, our inexperienced waitress somehow dropped her tray with a pitcher of drinks on our table, destroying our drinks/ dishes, ruining some shirts and sweaters, and putting a damper on the evening to say the least. Because I have had many good experiences in the past, I would go back again some day. People and places can have their off nights. However, two of my friends who had never been there previously, vowed never to return."

  • "Not often do I eat Korean food. This is my second time there. Both times very welcoming, helpful and friendly service. Both times ordered several apps and entrees I've never had/heard of before and loved everything. A special shout out to the udon and seafood entree. It was incredibly tasty."

  • "Amazing fantastic tasty treats galore! Be sure and get the grill table and order the beef and pork - first 2 items on the list. Server could have been a tad more friendly / sans attitude but would still return to enjoy another meal here. Really recommend - esp if you've had Korean before and were underwhelmed - this place will turn your opinion around 360 degrees!"

  • "First time trying Korean food and enjoyed the various dishes presented. Sat at a grilling table which enhanced the overall experience. Would recommend as a break from ones normal dining experience."

  • "If you want real BBQ go to K town. They didn't specifiy or confirm in reservations that we needed to let them know if we were doing BBQ or a regular dinner. We thought all tables would have the bbq grill but unfortunately we found out that was not the case. Otherwise food was great, but if you want to have conversation, it is difficult to hear the other person speaking."

  • "The ambience was cool and trendy. The food overall was good, but not traditional Korean. They were skimpy on the ban chan and they ran out of Soju. Who runs out of soju?"

  • "My friend lived in Korea for a year and never misses an opportunity to remind herself of her year there. We decided to try Do Hwa based on yelp recommendations and the pork belly bbq was really delish! It came with the lettuce leaves and a bunch of sides, my favorite being a garlic kale which I suppose acted as a substitute to the raw garlic, regardless we were able to get the raw garlic for our wraps. I also tried the korean sushi (sorry I don't remember the names) which was excellent! It was my first time having it but my friend who lived in korea authenticated the flavors for me. Overall I recommend it and it's a fun spot to get together with friends. They also have a variety of fun spicy cocktails!"

  • "Better Korean food in K-town for less money. Portions left me hungry. If you want nicer ambience, then go to Kristalbelli."
