Diner Reviews
  • "This was our first time at DK Italian Kitchen. The food was excellent and the service was very good. The staff was friendly and low key. The restaurant was full but we never felt rushed. I will definitely return."

  • "I really enjoyed eating here. The food was fantastic and the service was great. You're Homemade food is so much better than from the freezer to the oven like many other restaurants."

  • "The egg plant and Tilapia were great! There was more than enough to eat. My wife nor I could finish all there was. She had the egg plant and I had the Tilapia. It was great dining for our 44th anniversary. We swapped our meals for dinner on Saturday and they were still great! It was a great dining experience and one we will do again. We recommend the DK for all to experience."

  • "By its outside appearance as far as Expensive Restaurants go This one put all of their value in GREAT FOOD And Service on the inside, We can't wait to return and try so many other fine cooked dishes. A must go place. Bill P. Thanks to owner Will and his staff, Great Place"

  • "The food is consistently delicious and portions are generous! The staff are attentive but not intrusive. Can't wait for warmer weather to dine outside. The addition of live jazz music on Wednesday evening is a nice addition."

  • "We celebrated my girl Lynn's birthday here...she loves your Pasta Sambocca dish. Good food, nice music playing too."

  • "Went with dear friends and fellow foodies. Were blown away by the taste and quality of the food. I had the veal parmigiana; it was tender, large portion, smothered in mozzarella and the sauce was tasty too. My wife had the lemon pepper salmon and said it was delicious. My friend ordered a bottle of Livio Felluga Sosso wine; was very good. The place feels like you're in Italy; the walls are rustic golden stucco and the ceiling is black. There was jazz music playing in the background and the place was pretty busy. Dessert was also good; I had the Belgium dark chocolate mousse cake and a cappuccino. All told, the bill was reasonable. Would definitely go back."

  • "The food was fantastic! The service was awesome. Our waitress was on the ball, smiled, and interacted with us. They had live music which always concerns me due to noise levels. However, the music was not loud, they played softly in the background. This is a small and quaint place with good food and great service."

  • "Small cozy restaurant. The food was very good and the service was quick and friendly. Servers answered questions and made recommendations when asked. Felt the cost was reasonable appetizer, meals and a shared dessert for two for $50 is good. The only thing that did not feel right was the background music. Just didn't fit with the whole Italian feel of the restaurant. I will tell people about the restaurant and will be going back again soon."

  • "Overall very good experience. However only 2 bad things were they did not have a kids menu at all. I feel if you have highchairs and can accommodate kids then you should have a kids menu. I do think it's a little pricey for the area it's in but the food was very good."

  • "Food and service was good. The portions were enough to take home left overs for both myself and husband. I thought the bar was nice, a bit over priced for a rail brandy old fashion, when up the road at Ray Radigan's it would have been the same price but they don't use rail brandy. We would go back and I would recommend it to family and friends."

  • "Rib eye steak marinated in olive oil which completely eliminated the taste of beef. We want to taste beef, not the marinade. Rice balls not as crispy as I'd like, tho generously portioned, perhaps too large for appetizer. The chicken in sauce with peas had far too much sauce, again covering the flavor of the chicken. I thought the menu described peppers & onions on this chicken dish with buttery sauce & peas, there were no peppers & onions, only peas & herbs in alot of buttery sauce. Perhaps I confused it with another menu item. Great roasted vegs! Waitress friendly & upbeat tho did not ask if we wanted more bar drinks. We said the calamari was fishy & waitress immediately replied she would take it off the bill, which she did."

  • "First time diner at DK. It was OK. Had bruschetta, meat ravioli and cannoli. Meat ravioli was prepared well and served hot but it was nothing outstanding. The bruschetta was very fresh and the cannoli was good. Husband had lasagna and said it was very cheesie( this is good to him.) Clean and comfortable with good wait staff.. The night we visited there was a nice jazz combo-very pleasant atmosphere. We enjoyed the music very much."

  • "I booked a table for 4 and had a surprise guest show up. They were very quick to set us up at a larger table. This was a first time experience for 3 of the 5 in our. Group. They kept commenting on how nice the restaurant looked and how good the food was! My wife and I agree. We have dined here numerous times, and have enjoyed it greatly. The restaurant is small and friendly, with a great staff. We will continue to go back and introduce new people to this fine dining in Winthrop Harbor, IL."

  • "Because it was Valentine's Day, it was very busy. I would have to go back at a time when it's not so busy in order to be fair. I knew Surf and Turf was going to be on the menu for the evening, but I didn't know that it would be a limited menu rather than the full menu. Had I known that, I would have gone someplace else."

  • "We went there on Valentine's Day. We were seated promptly- had a reservation- and greeted at the table right away. After our order was taken, the server seemed to disappear. Our beverages were served after the salads, even with several requests. The V-D menu was rather limited but everyone managed to find something they liked. The Surf and Turf was enjoyed by two in our party. I had the seafood pasta- it was quite tasty. I added the mussels. It was only $1.00 extra but they were large and rather chewy. I did enjoy the Belgium Chocolate Cake for dessert."

  • "My wife and I went to DK Italian Kitchen, Saturday after Valentine's Day to celebrate. This was our third visit to DK. We were there a few months ago, and I sent an e-mail asking if they would consider offering arrancini as an appetizer. A few weeks later, it was on the menu. Needless to say, we had to try it and it was very good. My wife had the Portabella stuffed ravioli in cream sauce, which was excellent. I had the mostaccioli with Bolognese sauce with meatballs. Just like home made. We also had the Tiramisu for dessert. Also, excellent. DK Italian Kitchen, is a gem here on the far North Shore!!! I have recommended DK to several friends. If you are looking for really good, home made Italian dishes, this is the place!!!"

  • "Small but quaint . Two tables by the front door not a good idea. People coming in from outside are standing right next to u while your eating . Food was very good and staff were very friendly. Bartender was great. We go to CTCA several time a year and will dine there again . Would recommend this place to others"

  • "Its the details that matter! No water offered at the table. Nothing offered to start (breadsticks, something?). Server opened the wine and poured two full glasses with no inspection, then stuck the cork back in. Salads pre-made and stored in fridge, lettuce heel included. Butter also, hard as a rock. Lasagna was ok in flavor but consistency of mush. Vesuvio was lacking flavor and swimming in oil. I had heard good things, but the place was empty on a Friday night. I think I know why. The people were well- meaning and nice, prices good, but we won't be back."

  • "On the evening we visited, the bar was quiet, so the restaurant was also quiet. Appropriately decorated with a sophisticated hand, don't expect plastic grape vines in this establishment. The dining area is sweet elegance. Food was exceptional. The Italian sausage was comparable to my friends Mom, who was an immigrant from Sicily, hand made her own sausages. In other words, it was authentic - delicious. Table bread is provided (with oil) and is served piping hot from the oven. Portion sizes are generous, so be mindful if you order an appetizer. Many folks depart with their leftovers suggesting that maybe portion sizes are too generous. Pricing is $$, but again the value is much, much, more. Buon Appetito!"

  • "Winthrop Harbor has been lacking a nice place for people to go out to eat for a very long time. This is a wonderful place. The food is great, the service is great and it is close to home! Finally a place to go for a real sit down dining experience. Something other than fast food or pizza. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a nice place to go for a dinner with friends and family. The food presentation is beautiful, the flavor is amazing, and the service is five star. The prices are very reasonable for the menu offered and the food portions. Thanks to the owners and staff at DK's for a great dining experience. A 20+ year Winthrop Harbor resident."

  • "This was our first time at DK Italian Kitchen for hubby and I. From the moment we parked the car and walked through the bright entryway we felt like we were in for a treat. And we were right! Upon entering, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Among the elegance of cloth napkins and black-tied waiters, it felt like a place 'where everybody knows your name'. After ordering our food it arrived very quickly, was hot and delicious. I had the perch which was absolutely fabulous - hubby had the steak which was great as well. A terrific dining experience - delicious food, neighborhood feel and classy to boot. Will definitely go again!"
