Diner Reviews
  • "Dining with friends, we sampled many of the excellent choices Django has to offer. Three at our table had the Bouillibaisse and it was exceptional!"

  • "Oysters, escargot, Blue cheese medallions, seared scallops were all to die for. Expertly prepared and so good we wanted to save some for later. Food is always consistently delicious and well cared for by the chefs(s)."

  • "Our food are great, services was amazing, oyster taste good but disaapointed on what was sent out"
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "Went in to celebrate my wife's birthday. Had the poutine, beet salad and boulibaisse, ended the meal with creme broulee. Lillian was a very gracious and attentive server. The bill was surprisingly affordable. We'd never been here before, but the next time we go out it'll be Django."

  • "Service was very good and for a very nice lunch, we were able to get in and out in an hour, although easy to linger longer if you have the time. The open face steak sandwich with blue cheese and carmelized onions was excellent paired with a cup of their delicious tomatoe bisque, and my friend had a great lunch salad. Many unique choices and sauces make this a special treat for lunch. The dinner menu looks awesome."

  • "One of my favorite restaurants-never disappoints. The food was excellent, especially the tomato bisque and the chicken roulade. Wait staff was attentive and helpful. We tried new (to us) cocktails and liked them"
    Dined on 4/1/2014
  • "It started with a downdraft on our table that made two of us very cold. Waiter said it had never happened before so it would probably go away. We ordered onion ring and calamari. Both were excellent. The waiter, however, did not show up to take our dinner order until after we had been done with our entry for a long time. When we got our food, the steaks were ok but the duck was undercooked and cold. For the price, it's not a do-over."

  • "This was our first time to Django. We truly enjoyed our experience. It was very upbeat and fun. The food was amazing. Our waiter was very attentive despite being very busy. This was on a Tuesday night and it was packed. Definitely moved to the top of our list for Des Moines!"

  • "I brought out of town colleagues in for dinner on a Sunday night. The food, service and ambience were, as always, unbeatable. They could not stop raving about the restaurant. Bravo! Django is my favorite restaurant in Des Moines, and never disappoints. Thanks."

  • "I found this restaurant to be good, but not particularly memorable. One thing, though, is that the front section is quite loud .... too loud for a romantic meal."

  • "My 11 year old daughter and I were in Des Moines and she wanted a special dinner. Django turned pity to be quite nice. Although we were a bit over dressed for much of the other clientele, the atmosphere and menu matched our expectations. The food was quite tasty. We hope to dine there again."
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "Love the atmosphere, food delicious. Waiter terrific! Professional yet unpretentious. Gave me a great menu recommendation when I asked. Can't wait to go back."
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "Our food was excellent and you can't beat the no corkage fees. We had mussels to start and then the New York strip and chicken prosciutto pasta. Our service was great, even if she was a little flustered from a pretentious old man's complaints from a table nearby. Would definitely return."
    Dined on 3/16/2014
  • "The food was very good and the service was outstanding. The price though worth paying was still a little steep. but overall a great restaurant."
    Dined on 3/16/2014
  • "Menu had a good variety of items to choose from. In addition they had a happy hour menu with great pricing."

  • "We celebrated our 30th anniversary on a Sunday evening. The service was very attentive, personal, and flawless. The food was well prepared and satisfied our needs. The complimentary dessert was appreciated! A great place to enjoy a meal."

  • "Service - a group of eight, placed in a back corner, and the time from drinks to lunch service seemed painfully long. We were not rushed but likely should have communicated we needed to depart at a certain time. Food - everyone enjoyed the meals they ordered. Salads were fresh and light. Soups were savory. Burgers were cooked and prepared as ordered. Frites were very favorful (not one left on a plate). Atmosphere - refined with room for casual flair. We were placed in an area we could easily hear the members in our group with a populated restaurant."

  • "We chose to dine before the rush and it was wonderful. Our purpose was to take advantage of their happy hour. Food was amazing. Service was very knowledgeable and friendly. Definitely coming back."

  • "We went to Django for our 10 year anniversary. The food was great, the server was knowledgeable and attentive, and the drinks were good. The seared scallops dish was amazing!!!! The server even provided dessert for our anniversary."

  • "Mussels were grainy...had to pick different entrée. Service much slower than previous dines. Overall still a favorite spot for French cuisine."
    Dined on 3/2/2014
  • "This place has a nice vibe with a very varied menu from French specialties, seafood, pizza, and burgers. There is a very good wine and drink menu presented on a tablet computer. The sazarac cocktail was very good and worth the $9 charge. I had the scallops saint jacques which had too much gooey cheese and not enough scallops. The caesar salad was so bland it did not resemble any caesar salad I had ever had. I would go back and try the pizza and burgers next as the above items were forgettable."

  • "The food, service and ambience were all wonderful. I've never been disappointed with the food or service at Django. Depending on where you are seated, the noise level can be a little overwhelming. On this occasion, we were seated in an area with a lower ceiling, so we didn't have to strain to hear each other. My one suggestion would be to have larger tables for two people. With all the glasses, serving stand for the cheese plate and the other plates and utensils, it was hard to keep everything on the table. In fact, one of our water glasses went off the table twice due to the minimum space. However, we'll still return."

  • "Great food but don't expect any good or friendly service."
    Dined on 2/27/2014
  • "Good ambience, generally excellent food, however on this particular day my French fries were cold and limp. Still, my companion and I had a great time!"
    Dined on 2/26/2014
  • "The food was absolutely delicious and the service was very good. The one drawback is the noise level, you can't have a romantic evening when you can even hear each other talk!"
    Dined on 2/22/2014
  • "We chose to dine on the 16th to avoid the crush of the previous Friday. The warm brasserie style of the venue was indicative of the meal to come. My date chose mussels and small plates and I chose the crab cakes with the prosciutto chicken. We paired this with Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc. All of the food items were wonderfully and thoughtfully made. The wait staff was timely and unobtrusive. The stars of the meal were the mussels in a classic wine/garlic sauce and my chicken main. The chicken had great flavor layering and the pasta bed was a perfect touch. We opted out of dessert due to the volume of food given. Next time (there will be a next time) we may opt for charcuterie an a split of a main course, in order to have dessert."

  • "Django offers sophisticated but inexpensive fine dining in downtown Des Moines. The decor and ambiance are amazing, wide open floor plan with many attached rooms sunlight by large windows. The cherry-finish wood interior is inviting and warm. The food, at least on my first outing there, was good, and it was notable that they used fine ingredients despite the lower price. Django may be a cousin of La Mie in hat regard."

  • "This was the second time I have been to Django. Each time there has been mistakes. First time was a very over cooked steak. This time they plain forgot to put our appetizer order in. Ok, that isn't that bad, but when I go to a "nice" place I expect better. We had to wait excessively for our drink order, and for them to be delivered. My wife and I both order the special. I guess they are the type of place that puts items they need out of the kitchen on the special menu. It was lobster ravioli. It was obviously not fresh and had been sitting for days. Pretty disappointing. Why is it so much of the time the less expensive restaurant outperforms the more expensive restaurant?"

  • "We went to Django for Valentine's Day / Our anniversary and were not dissapointed. Neither of us had ever had proper French food before, so we both ordered the "frenchiest" things we saw on the menu (which were Duck Confit and Beef Borgenion (I probably just murdered that spelling, I'm sorry). Food was excellent, service was lightning fast, would happily attend again."

  • "There were not many ppl there when we arrived for our reservation, however the place seemed crowded. The tables were close together, and our table was against the wall with numerous other small tables with a chair on one side and a boothlike seat against the wall. The table was small and crowded with just our appetizer plates, silverware, and condiments holder. Felt like we had to "make room" each time our waitress brought us a drink or a meal courses. About out waitress, she could have been a bit more personable. She took care of us...however, she would ask us how things were, but she would be walking away as we answered making her question seem more like a forced necessity and not actually caring how things were."

  • "My boyfriend and I had a great experience here; it was a little loud but that was understandable because of the amount of people/the time we went. The food was delicious the goat cheese and spinach ravioli is a must. The créme brûlée was our dessert and it was great as well. Our server was very helpful even with several other tables to also serve."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "Our waiter was fabulous and personable, the wine selection was awesome (and available on a tablet on the table! Nice touch!), and the food was incredible. I had a blue cheese beef, and my date had clams in a blue cheese sauce. We both were incredibly happy with the meal, and the whole experience at Django's on Valentine's Day. I can't say enough good things about it."

  • "I made surprize reservations for my husband and I at Django as and early Valentine and asked for a quite table. They seated us at the back of the resturant with a great street and bar view. The cheese plate was wonderful, I had a salad and my husband had soup then we shared a beautiful plate of scallops. The food was wonderful and so was the service. We will definately have date night there again."
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. On the night weer went the service was very slow and I think she forgot about us. We were there for 30 minutes before we ordered our entrée."

  • "Great way to learn new dishes. Food is always good."

  • "The seared scallops were wonderful. The french toast desert was very good. The mushroom crepes were just okay. The pre-meal bread was a bit too chewy."

  • "I had the evening special, Lobster Ravioli, with Asparagus and my wife had the Hanger Steak. Both were cooked perfectly and out of sight delicious. We brought our own bottle of wine from the Home and Garden Show and our waiter brought us an ice bucket to chill it and served it for us without charge. Always love the ambiance and the prices are reasonable. We had reservations and our table was waiting for us without delay. Wonderful evening dinner experience. Our compliments to the chef, waiter, staff and management."

  • "Ever time I come to Django I enjoy a great meal in a fabulous environment. The Scallops St. Jacques could have used a bit more scallops, but it was delicious."
