DixieFun night in the PresidioEnjoyed fantastic service and great views in the Presidio. If you haven't tried Dixie, I'd recommend it!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGood foodAcron grits with poached egg, duck skin crackling and sea urchin butter was delicious. The service was great!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Lunch Spot!I love the atmosphere of Dixie. The look, the music, all make for a great experience. We came on a Sunday, when there is a brunch/lunch menu. I got the ricotta dumplings and my friend had the gumbo. Both were great, although portions are on the smaller side. It was a little too windy to sit outside on the day we went, but it looks like it would be great to sit outside and enjoy a sunny day! I would return to Dixie.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMLunch for usWe were on our bikes tooling around San Fran, and found this on Open Table and had a lovely lunch. We shared the deviled eggs (with fried chicken liver and horseradish) and my husband had the scrimp and I had the crab. Perfect, clean food. And the Pear Cooler was very fun and tasty.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMrestaurant for dietsthe portions are very small, no one would get indigestion here. Price for lunch for three people, $100. Quite pricey.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting food, not theInteresting food, not the usual, so be prepared. Of the five prefixed dishes, only the poached egg failed.
.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Service and FoodWe used a TravelZoo voucher for a 5 course tasting menu that came with drink pairings and it was excellent. The servers were very attentive and the food was also good. We were given some extra things that were not part of the tasting menu, as well. Our main server was very good at clearly explaining what everything was and he even topped us off with more syrah at the end.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMDixie still deliversDixie is still a great place. This time I introduced two friends to Dixie for lunch. I enjoyed the lunch menu, but I felt that the desserts left something to be desired. C'mon Dixie: leave the pecan pie on the menu for lunch dessert! The crab salade, chopped salad and mixed salad were all great. My friends adored the hush puppies. Friends were particularly happy with the reasonable portions. They need to tone the music down. We had a hard time talking over the noise. Also, they should allow patrons access to the wifi. Some of us are on business lunches and that area is lacking cell phone coverage.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AM"I wish I was in Dixie!"Beautiful location at the Presidio - lovely interior, service and dining! Went on the Living Social voucher and it really was a good deal (some are not so much). You might want to watch out for the bloody marys ! They are made with chipotle vodka!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMBeautiful decor w/ inventive menuWe had early reservations at 6:15, so only a few other tables of people there upon arrival, but it was bustling when we left. Beautiful decor, the perfect amount of decorative touches with peaceful view outside of the front wall of windows. The service was perfect! Our server introduced himself and ensured that every question was answered thoroughly and made us feel comfortable to ask any request. At least two employees made sure to ask if everything was well/if anything else needed. And the food was delicious, and not to pretentious for a picky eater. Perfect hush puppies, and a great chicken dish. I don't think my fellow diner left a crumb of his shrimp dish on the plate. I highly reccommend it!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunch 5.18.13Used a LivingSocial deal to take my better half out for brunch, since I've lived nearby but never had a chance to go. Food was absolutely delicious (who knew fried oysters could make Eggs Benedict that much better? and my S.O. loved his first taste of gumbo!), although appetizer portions were on the small side. Fantastic cocktail and wine choices for all tastes. Ideal service; always friendly and energetic, but never overbearing or distant, with a good handle on the menu and recommendations. Highly recommended for brunch, especially when the weather is as lovely as it was.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMPresidio GemYou can tell as soon as you walk in that there has been a lot of attention to detail in Dixie. Everything from the menus to the pine centerpieces to the little tiles that hold the utensils. That same attention to detail is obvious in the staff as well. I went to Dixie for a work meeting with 5 of my coworkers. As soon as we walked in we were nicely greeted by the hostess and our waitress was very attentive, working with our schedule and needs to help plan our meal accordingly. We started with the deviled eggs and hush puppies, then ordered the dumplings, crab salad, shrimp, and sturgeon special along with a couple salads to share. Everything was delicious and didn't last a second on our table. Can't wait to try their brunch!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden GemDixie is in a lovely area of the Presidio - with a view of outside greenery - outdoor dining and lovely clean lines and decor. Quiet enough for easy conversation but busy enough to feel part of the action!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic MealWe had the 5 course pairing menu that we bought through Travelzoo. The food was fantastic, and the service nearly flawless. The restaurant is spacious which made for a very comfortable dining experience. The food was innovative and delicious for every course. The bar looks like a great place to hang out as well. We will definitely go back.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMDixie won us over.Excellent food and excellent service. Very original menu with lots of southern influence. We will definitely be back.;5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMWOW!Don't be scared off by the uniqueness of the menu. We all most were, but opted for the tasting - 5 course dinner. My mouth was in heaven! Amazingly good, every course was perfect, then the next course would be even more perfect. How was it possible? And, the service only added to the perfection of the evening! EVERYONE was gracious, helpful, fun and attentive without being intrusive. We had a perfect evening, and can't wait to go back. AMAZING!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMDining at DixieThe food was interesting and the recipes were well matched. We went with friends and loved being in the Presidio for dinner.
Its not your ordinary southern style eatery. Try the acorn grits. Yum!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food - great atmosphere. Our party of 6 came for dinner. The food was beautifully prepared, the chicken and dumplings tender and tasty, and the molasses marinade fish dish was unusual and delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. The interior is inviting and It's a lovely setting in the Presidio, with the opportunity of dining on the patio during the day. Will definitely go back.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect place for unique foodDo not go in thinking just southern fare, but go in with an open mind. The unique spin on "classics" (try the deviled eggs as well as the acorn grits!) makes it worth the trip.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFred's BirthdayThe atmosphere was very nice, we'd never been here before. The space is huge and the bar is spacious and very open. The prix fixe menu was very inventive especially the canapes. The main dish was steak, it was nice and tender. The wine pairings were very appropriate.
In general, a very nice experience, though pricey.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWords that comes to mind.SplendidWords that comes to mind.Splendid and Exceptional! The entire staff made the experience wonderful. The food was delicious.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful evening with greatWonderful evening with great food/wine parings and great service! I was impressed with the willingness to talk about each paring, provide inside details on the name or how something was brought together- it made the evening more special. It provided a backdrop to the entire experience!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a tasty, relaxing brunch. We had a tasty, relaxing brunch. Wait staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. Came on a special coupon but will return for dinner.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI thought the menu was fineI thought the menu was fine for lunch. The salad with ham was a great change of pace. But, would I go there for dinner- No. I checked the menu- it is too limited from my family.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe absolutely loved our dinner,We absolutely loved our dinner, especially the bananas foster dessert! Service was also top notch.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed trying severalWe enjoyed trying several different appetizers and cocktails, as well as the black-eyed peas complementary "amuse bouche" that the restaurant gave us. The cod beignets, oysters and hush puppies were all tasty. We also enjoyed our entrees, which included grilled shrimp, dungeness crab salad and pork and chicken dishes. Portions are on the small side, but then the price is very reasonable and in the end we were full. For dessert we shared the pecan pie with burnt caramel sauce and malt vanilla ice cream--very good!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMalthough we had 2-for-onealthough we had 2-for-one coupons for tasting menus and wine pairings, we were treated like royalty. This southern cooking is anything from down home, yet my friends, who grew up on grits, knew this for the real thing. From the hush puppies amuse bouche to the fiiet with chicory-coffe red wine reduction we enjoyed every minute.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had brunch mid week andWe had brunch mid week and the restaurant was rather quiet and not full, even when we left well at late afternoon. The location is beautiful and a true SF treat when it comes to vistas. We had an assortment of the southern bites including the deep fried pickles, which were delicious and went perfectly with our cocktails. Service was very attentive and I think we will come back to give dinner a try.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb, unique menu and excellent,Superb, unique menu and excellent, friendly service. The menu is always a bit confusing for me, but I'm not sure how that could be improved. Perhaps the server could explain that the 'small plates' make good appetizers, etc.
I'll come again soon.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, lovely decor andGreat food, lovely decor and very accommodating staff.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMService was excellent. OurService was excellent. Our server Erin was wonderful !4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were very impressed withWe were very impressed with the 5 course prix fixe menu and he travelzoo special made it an incredible bargain. The chicken and dumplings (Dixie style) ) and the beef dishes were outstanding! Loved the banana foster souffle, too! Can't wait to go back!4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice and attentive service,Very nice and attentive service, interesting and delicious food, great wine selection, warm atmosphere.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWe will be back over and over againBruch last Easter was yummy. They accommodated seating 10 of us with 5 different reservations. We had a few of us wanted virgin drinks and they put some alcohol on the side which made us drinking people happy. My eggs Benedict was filling and yummy. Those who got the burger said it was juicy, perfectly grilled to their preference. as usual, service was super nice. Jamie was awesome. Will be back over and over.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMBEAUTIFUL and SERENE-"ZEN" DIXIESkip the heavy hush puppies and order the CALA instead! EVERYTHING (except hush puppies) was FANTASTIC. We think it should be called ZEN DIXIE. Serene, fusion, and fun. One waiter even carried an infant around the restaurant to keep her calm while the parents ate! AMAZING and great! shrimp, quail, deviled eggs, blacked eye peas and cracker bread, SMOKED OYSTERS were the BEST EVER! The setting is beautiful with views of the Bay and Palace of Fine ARTS. Trees are in bloom and can't beat a cocktail on the patio. TRY IT! WONDERFUL! It will be a neighborhood regular spot for us. the smell of the acorns and eucalyptus walking into the restaurant puts you in the serene mood needed to really enjoy the food.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMOff the beaten track, but high endHad the 5 course tasting menu with pairings. The food was trendy, interesting, very, very high end feel, and great taste. An extra appetizer course was thrown in, but only 3 drink pairings included instead of 5 as per Travelzoo offer, and two of the 3 were really tiny servings--3/4" of wine in the bottom of a normal shaped glass--so we had to buy wine by the glass. Males were consistently poured more than females (!)
Serene and quiet setting, but something is really missing to the point that I thought about it a lot during dinner--specifically the decor is all neutral colors and the lighting is fluorescent and fairly bright. I want non-weird colored low lighting, candles/flowers on the table, music, and some pops of color!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and service wereThe food and service were both very good. Menu is based on Southern cooking, but very creative. Best Bloody Mary ever, made with a smoked tomato juice and a nice bite. Eggs benedict was very good. My choice was on a biscuit and crammed collard greens. Fantastic! The ddvilied egg appetizer was great too. The restaurant is a little hard to find, but with it!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMHad heard a lot of mixed reviewsHad heard a lot of mixed reviews but was very happy with the tasting menu. Food was well prepared and wine pairings were unique and enjoyable.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThe pricing doesn't reflectThe pricing doesn't reflect the quality of the food. My eggs were under cooked and the Benedict lacked flavor. The canapés were very delicious and probably the redeeming quality out of all the dishes I've tried.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptional meal. Six ofExceptional meal. Six of us ordered the prix fixe five course meal. Two of the six had many food allergies, and the waiter helpfully guided them to many satisfactory alternatives, which pleased two very fussy eaters. All the courses were well received by us. The palette cleanser before the desert was unanimously acclaimed as the best that any of us have tasted. Finally, the banana foster souffle with a malted chocolate ice cream on the side wrapped up a delightful meal. Highly recommend this one year old, easy to park restaurant in the Presidio in San Francisco.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMA great find! Beautiful locationA great find! Beautiful location inside the Presidio. It's best to go when there's daylight to really enjoy the view. Food was great, fantastic interpretation of Southern cooking. We had Chicken and Dumplings, Chicken Fried Quail and a Grit dish with duck skin, poached egg and sea urchin butter that were superb.
Service was good, not pretentious, accommodating, gracious and friendly.
Definitely will go back again.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThanks for wonderful eveningBefore coming here I read some of the 1 star yelp reviews - my advice, GO and try it out yourself. Service was fabulous. I have food allergies and they were very conscientious about avoiding it in my dishes. We learned about every dish served. A lot 2.5 to 4 hours of dining, so bring someone you have plenty to talk with. We were not rushed, and we ate really slow. For fine dining, the portions are enough. I wish there are options for deep fried dishes , but the, it's southern dishes...doh! We will be back :-)3/16/2013 12:00:00 AM5 Courses/5 StarsDon't underestimate "Dixie" & Southern Cooking. What a gourmand's evening! We thoroughly enjoyed the 5 course wine dinner. Innovative preparations presented by superb wait staff accompanied by a very knowledgeable wine steward. No rush,no hurry---just a relaxing, very satisfying and unique restaurant experience. Convenient location, appealing menu, wonderful, attentive staff make this a must "go to and will return again" dinning find.3/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
