Diner Reviews
  • "Both times I have been here most of the tables were empty. However, you have a better chance of getting one if you make a reservation. We were not asked if we wanted to sit inside or out and were seated inside with no view, while a number of tables outside with a great view went empty."

  • "The menu is not the same that opentable has in its record. It is so little."

  • "What an inspired dining experience. There were four of us and we all loved our entrees. Our waitress was very energetic and helpful. I plan on introducing this gem to my girlfriends! I only wish the chef would include the wonderful, small cornmeal samples on the menu."

  • "Excellent food. Amazing tequila menu. Reasonable prices. Had fun and will go back!"

  • "Food was very flavorful and complex compared to most good restaurants. Salmon ceviche and small tacos were great. Only complaint is that the duck dish had too much cheese and not enough duck. Prices were reasonable."

  • "Excellent Food. Excellent Service. Outdoor dining was perfect -- great view and great weather."

  • "The Naranja Roja might be the best cocktail I've ever had."

  • "It was supposed to be a special occasion. Certainly disappointing. Way too loud. Way too dark. The guacamole was good as was the confit duck, but the other "small plate" - crab claws was tasteless. Main course pork belly was extremely fatty and over-spiced; the prawns were tough and chewy. Two of us had the branzino which was quite good, but the vera cruz sauce wasn't up to most similar sauces we've had in Mexico. The single birthday candle on the dessert was a nice touch. Young servers need training. They can't be heard over the music and aren't skillful at delivering plates to the right patrons. Jose Garces may have designed the menu and hired the chef, but both the food and the untrained servers will hurt his reputation."

  • "We don't live in Scottsdale but once a month my husband and I go to a restaurant we have never been to. He is a foodie and I pleasantly follow along. The food is great. The lighting is romantic and aside from the table of 8 30 something's that were getting drunker and louder as the night went on, it was a perfect dining experience. We will go back."

  • "Food was very good. Ordered guacamole, assortment of tacos (both seafood and the carnitas were our favorites), rellano not tradtional but we enjoyed it. We had a pticher of the Distrito margarita---good but didn't knock our socks off. The service from our waiter, unfortunately, was horrible. It was a long time between him coming over to first greet us, get our drink order, and then food order. He never checked in with us throughout the night. We kept asking the bus boys if we could order a drink or order dinner. The bus boys were attentive but they obviously were not empowered to help the guests because they all kept saying, "I'll get your waiter". Due to the poor service and all the other great restaurants in Scottsdale, we won't return."

  • "I was so excited to go back to Distrito but was so very disappointed. we started with the guacamole which took 15 minutes to get to our table and it was just as good as last time. After that we had a bunch of small plates including the pork carnitas tacos. they were not flavorful. We had the barbacoa Duck queso fundido and it was horrible very greasy and way too sweet.the albondigas were okay and the tuna ceviche was very tasty. the red sangria was not very good. Our server left a lot to be desired. the last time we were in Phoenix we liked Distrito so much we went twice but we won't be doing that again."

  • "Dined with my husband and was seated right on top of two adjacent couples though the restaurant was half empty. Server took forever to show her face. Drinks were poor quality & very watered down when they finally arrived. Small plates were more aptly described as minuscule. Food was fair overall. Some creativity exhibited by the chef. On balance, though, this place was a huge rip off. I left feeling hungry and annoyed and would never go back based on this experience."

  • "We ate here, as it turned out, three times out of four days we were in Scottsdale. The first time we had the lunch special - guacamole (outstanding), salmon ceviche (excellent), and two orders of tacos. My favorite were the fish tacos crusted with ground plantain chips. The second meal we had was a nice dinner with six people. We got the tasting menu and there were too many things to list, but I think my favorite of all was the branzino with a tomato-ey sauce. It was delicious. Dessert assortments were outstanding, and the pitchers of top shelf margaritas were wonderful too. The third time we came was on a tour with Arizona Food Tours. We had the guacamole (again, delicious) and a chicken taco. The taco was good, but I prefer the fish taco."

  • "We had reservations at the spa so we decided to grab a bite to eat beforehand. I had the chorizo breakfast burrito, best breakfast burrito I've ever eaten! Extremely flavorful and really enjoyed the fresh avocado. My friend had the pescado tacos which also looked delicious. The decor and ambiance was awesome!"

  • "I wanted to share a memorable dining experience with my wife for our first Valentine's Day being married. We were so pleased with the selection at Distrito. Every dish was prepared with care and precision by cooks that definitely knew what they were doing. The balance of flavor in every single dish was amazing. I will dream of this meal for a lifetime!"

  • "The service however was laughable it was so sub-par. I would have thought he was just having a bad day, but every time he waits on us he is horribly inept. A nice enough guy just clueless!!! Disappointing for a restaurant of this caliber."

  • "Distrito has a very nice atmosphere with live music in the bar. The band was great but, because the bar is completely open to the dining room, the music was too loud for easy conversation. In fact, our server had a hard time hearing our order. We ordered several small plates and a couple of drinks all of which were excellent. The servers paced the delivery of our meal nicely although initially getting our drinks and order taken was a bit slow. Distrito is a Mexican restaurant but it's not the typical Sonoran food that we've come to expect in this area. It's more like what you might find in Mexico City. Everything was nicely seasoned and presented very well. On a warmer evening the patio would have been a nice option and quieter."

  • "Won't go back even though it's so conveniently situated for dinner pre or post performance. Food mediocre, ambiance non-existent, service ok. Pity, that this location just never seems to get it right."

  • "Very good dishes with a very nice presentation, and incredible taste!. Try de corn soup, you will be surprised. The restaurant have very nice live music (at list on Fridays), with a quiet ambience. All the Restaurant and the Hotel are decorated with lots of Contemporary Art pieces, which is a plus. We really loved it."

  • "We were told the tacos were great, but menu didn't make them sound appealing so only one person ordered chicken tacos. He didn't like looks, or tastes. The chicken was very good, salmon middling. Service seemed almost none, and we probably will not return."

  • "Food was great. Recommend. But music was too loud to hold dinner conversation. And tap dancing sounded like a woodpecker"

  • "Set in a modern boutique hotel, Distrito has a sleek, contemporary look that includes both banquette and table seating. Despite having a large party not far from us, the noise level was low and the background music mostly soothing. The restaurant has a good wine list and a nice mix of specialty cocktails. The kitchen turns out beautifully prepared and imaginative contemporary Mexican fare. The nachos were among the best I've ever had, and far different from the usual Tex-Mex fare - these include shavings of vegetables and cilantro along the the chile and poblanos. Pork belly, with scallions and a pineapple reduction, was succulent and delightful. In all, Distrito offers a lot of sophistication and taste at a very reasonable price."

  • "It is always a challenge to make Mexican style dishes with a modern twist... so many try & miss the mark but not here.... the Chili Rellenos was more than excellent, it was a delightful use of quinoa & the sauce was fantastic. Our server was Michael was knowledgeable of his menu & paced the meal perfectly. It was Tuesdays evening & there was live music on the patio that at first thought was a professional recording because they were so good.. I guess you can tell we are going back on Tuesdays. JJ"

  • "I'm from NM so had no idea about the place I'd chosen for a group brunch except the fare was mexican. Turned out to be a gem, we decided should be added to our regular "hot spots" to dine when in AZ. Atmosphere, service and food were all without complaint from the group.Would have liked to have seen more mexican flavor to the brunch besides the delicious rice and black beans. Maybe some huevos rancheros?"

  • "I was surprised to get reservations on short notice. However, on arrival, we found a nearly deserted restaurant... usually a bad sign. The waiter offered wine/drink suggestions and detailed the various tequila offerings. The two-page menu offered 2-3 appetizers, soup/salads, and deserts, with 5-6 offerings of "small plates" (tapas) and "large plates." All sound like up-scaled Mexican favorites, such as: tacos, ceviche and guacamole. We decided on several small plates to sample a range of offerings. Platters came in sequence, each beautifully garnished and plated. With each dish, the server described the ingredients and preparation... rare even upscale restaurants. Bottom line... worth the effort to find this undiscovered gem."

  • "Excellent gourmet Mexican inspired food. The band was extremely loud, made conversation exceedingly difficult (the waiter had trouble even hearing our order). Drinks very creative & tasty, excellent ceviche and fish tacos."

  • "I have only been here to breakfast. Food is great and a nice relaxing area to eat in. I am sure once more "winter" visitors make it back to town breakfast time will be a busy place on the Saguaro. Attentive service and the food is VERY good!"

  • "This was our first time at Distrito and the food was delicious. The bar area was very nice (had GREAT live entertainment) but the waitress we had was HORRIBLE. She had a terrible attitude and was actually very rude. I have to say it ruined our evening and we were a big party where everyone seated at the table had a similar reaction to her. The food is delicious and I will venture back there again, but do hope that this woman finds another profession where she would be better suited."

  • "We had dined at Distrito a year ago and we had been very impressed. This time we went there with a group of friends and found the food bland and overpriced. The ceviche portion was extremely small and lacked flavor. The chili relleno was similarly lackluster. The only saving grace was the octopus, but the portion was diminutive. The gimlet was well done as well. It is a pity because the ambiance is very nice, the location terrific (e.g., before a concert at the SCA) and the service responsive."

  • "My spouse and I shared the taco bar, which is a series of dishes brought to your table, not a bar shared with the whole restaurant. The chicken, the veggie mix (mushrooms, peppers, and onions), and the rice were fabulous. The cheese appetizer was not what I was expecting and was a bit disappointing. I expected melty, stringy goodness. While the cheese came in an exciting presentation (on fire), it was barely warm and definitely not melted. The margarita I had was tasty, but gone in 3 sips. The drink was all ice and very little drink, so I would return for the food but definitely would save my money on drinks."

  • "The food and cocktails are imaginative and well executed. The choice of both small and large plates provides the diner with the ability to either share around the table or experience atradidional dinner. The waitress we had needs to go back into training. My wife and I brought a friend from out of town. We each ordered a different plate. When the main course arrived my wife received the same meal as our guest. We sent it back and we were told they would bring the correct meal right away. It finally arrived 10 minutes later. There were several other serving errors throughout the night including late cocktail refills. The food was outstanding, but the service errors left us wondering if we would bother to return."

  • "Was here previously with my husband so when friends suggested dinner, I proposed Distrito and added I would make the reservation so that I could request Michael as our waiter. 'Waiter' doesn't seem like an adequate description since he truly adds to the entire dining experience...so well-versed in all aspects of the menu including choosing great wines to pair with our meal choices. He also has the great sense to know when to step back so he isn't interfering with the table and conversation as so many over-familiar waitstaff seem to do today. Food recs...Seafood tacos to start with margaritas, Colorado lamb (my second time and still the WOW factor!) and you must save room for the ultimate chocolate dessert which is ALMOST too pretty to eat!"
