  • "We were really looking forward to dining at Dristito's for the first time, the decor was very cool to say the least. However, we were very disappointed in the overall food regarding portion size (nachos were smaller than a salad plate size) Tacos were smaller than a plate that would hold a tea cup. Would not recommend. Overall taste of food items were not that good. "

  • "This place was incredible ... Mahi Mahi was great! From the initial reservation through the end of the night it was a great experience"

  • "We were visiting Philadelphia and, checking out local celebrity chefs, decided to try Jose Garces' Distrito. What a pleasure! The modern, upscale Mexican food was delightful. Do not miss the short rib "pizza" appetizer - awesome! Small plates allow for tasting a variety of interesting choices. The people next to us were eating when we arrived and were still getting plates by the time we left! End your meal with the homemade churros with chocolate and coconut crema dipping sauces -- it's a little bit of heaven!"

  • "The server was rude. Luckily, the food and decor was great. I would recommend this restaurant if the other waitstaff were friendlier."

  • "I kind of expected a bit more from this place as I like Garces so much. The food was good but just did not blow me or my husband away really. Fun atmosphere. White sangria was nice. Food was good just left me wanting something more. Thought it might be a bit spicier."

  • "There were so many choices on the menu and we weren't sure what mood we were in, so we got the chef's tasting menu to take the decisions out of our hands. Great choice! We were served fried hot peppers, salad, chicken poblano, fish tacos, and other tasty items in good portions. We were asked about dietary preferences (we said no pork or red meat this time) and were completely accommodated without any fuss. I was the designated driver, but my companions reported great satisfaction with the margaritas, especially the grapefruit margarita. The coconut and chocolate sauces served with the churros for dessert were a big hit! Attentive, unobtrusive service."

  • "This was maybe the 15th time we have eaten at Distrito and it never disappoints. Some new menu items, that were delicious. Old favorites still delicious. Cucumber margarita - not to be missed!"

  • "I don't have any complaints about this place, and it's rare that that happens nowadays. Great first impression. We had a reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival even though we called to let them know we were running late. Service was excellent, knowledgable, and friendly. We told them we had to be out by a certain time, and they made sure we got everything in enough time to eat, pay and run to a show. Food was good and worth the price. I would go back."

  • "Good food, fun decor. Particularly liked the Mexican wrestler masks on the wall. Plates were creative and flavorful, although carnitas were disappointing. Ceviche was fresh and tasty. Will definitely return."

  • "I brought a group of people here for my birthday this past weekend. The restaurant was very accommodating to our large group- we even got our own private room without requesting it. The service was great, they kept our margaritas glasses full! I was a little disappointed with the amount of ice they put in the pitchers but you saved a few bucks getting a pitcher instead of a single glass. The food was awesome- we got chips and salsa/guac to share for the table, and since it is tapas style, one of my friends and I got 4 plates to share. I love traditional Mexican food and I am very picky about where I go.. this was a hit!!"

  • "The food was good... the mojito was excellent... the service was outstanding. But I feel the prices were way out of whack for the tapas portions and the quality of the food. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it and the food was good but the pricing will keep me from going back."

  • "Went on a Wednesday night. The upstairs was closed and there were a few people downstairs. We wanted frozen margaritas and were told the machine was broken so we had other drinks. Food was ok, but not as good as in the past. when we ordered coffee, we were told the coffee machine was broken. Maybe Garces staff is over-extended, but how can a restaurant not have a working coffee machine? What is happening here? I would expect much more from Garces' restaurants. Have been here often and may not go back."

  • "First, food is delicious. What I really enjoyed was the service. Our server was friendly and knowledgable. She knew the food both here and and the sister restaurants. It came through that she was proud of what they were doing and that she liked and respected the people she worked with and for."

  • "Came here for the 2nd time w a group of friends (4 total). We were seated in one of the round booths which was great, very spacious. Our waitress was attentive, helpful with food and serving size suggestions. The food was delicious (we split 5 tapas dishes and 1 dessert between 3 of us and this was plenty of food). We also shared a pitcher of the Jefe (top shelf) margarita which was really good and they were generous w the tequila (just check the price before ordering, I think it was $65...but it gave us 6-8 margaritas and a nice buzz.). The atmosphere was fun, not so noisy we had to shout to have a conversation. Will definitely come back."

  • "My son and I were in the area for a baseball tourney and decided to find a hot spot for dinner. After asking a few friends, we decided on Distrito. A great choice. The place had a great vibe when entering. Smiles from the hostesses seemed sincere, not an act. The food itself was wonderful and well described by our waiter. Hits : Tuna ceviche w/coconut and plantain chips. The grilled octopus came in second. No real misses except the deep fried crab claws were not as special as we would have hoped. It was a great experience as a whole."

  • "Went with my husband and my college student daughter and her friend. The "Tapas" style dining is a great way for friends or even couples to have a good time. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered several appetizers and taco dishes. We ordered a main entrée but this is actually not necessary. The food was delivered to the table 1-2 dishes at a time allowing us to pace the meal. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and able to offer several suggestions since it was our first time dining here. He even left a menu on the tale for us to look at as we decided to order additional dishes. Will definitely return again."

  • "I'll admit, I'm kind of a restaurant snob, but Philadelphia has done that to me. With so many delicious restaurants to choose from, especially at affordable prices, we can afford to be picky, right? My friends and I chose Distrito for brunch on a Saturday because the ambiance looked like fun. Lots of pink, very retro, very cool. That ended up being true... what fell short though, was the food. I wouldn't say the food was bad, but I definitely wasn't good enough to recommend to a friend, or good enough to go back. This was surprising, given the fact that Distrito is a Garces restaurant. I would, however, go back to check out the bar scene, as long as I have dinner elsewhere first ;-)."

  • "Our group of four had a great time. It felt like Mexican tapas = small servings but sufficient. The Kahlua cheesecake is the bomb!"

  • "The food was good but nothing to write home about.....and completely overpriced as well. When I drop that kind of money, I expect a classier atmosphere. Our waiter was very good and informative. The pitchers of margaritas ended up being 1/2 a pitcher due to the large quantities of ice in both the pitcher and the glasses - kind of a rip-off. The shrimp ceviche ended being about 6 shrimp swimming in sauce that tasted like store bought shrimp cocktail sauce. Not any kind of ceviche I've had before. A very trendy restaurant for the hipster crowd with money........is there such a thing?"

  • "What a gem! We came with another couple, their suggestion. Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic. We did not know what to order, everything looked so good. The manager came by we told him that, he asked if we had any allergies or dislikes & then asked us if he could order for us...every meal should be this easy & entertaining! It was a perfect night with wonderful drinks, great food & an entertaining staff. We felt perfect at the end. Just the right amount of food, all different tastes (the chef is great), & a lot of laughs. We'll be back Distrito!"

  • "I've been to Distrito for lunch, just drinks, a romantic dinner, and dinner with friends. No matter what occassion, it never disappoints me. I love the choices in food, the portion size, the drink options, and the atmosphere. It's my favorite restaurant. One more thing that is great is that there's always parking close by, since it's not in the busiest section of the city. Love!"

  • "Distrito is tapas style, so getting a bunch of dishes and sharing means you can try many things at once. Get the nachos with the skirt steak, easily some of the best nachos I've ever had."

  • "Excellent tapas style restaurant. Sometimes it can be difficult to gauge how many "tapas-style" plates are enough for the party, but we ended up with 2 small plates, a taco, the duck entree and 2 sides and it was the perfect amount for 2 (plus churros for dessert!). Sometimes i feel a little cramped when you get squeezed into a small table for 2, especially with a bunch of tapas style plates. But it ended up being an adequate amount of space."

  • "Their food was awesome and they have a very large amount of awesome seating ideas. One of which is a old beetle taxi converted to a table. Everything is very brightly colored and their service is great! The food tasted great as well. I got very mad when someone ate pmy last plantain because it was so good."

  • "We ADORE the menu, the service, the food, the drinks and the ambience! We have always found Distrito to be an excellent choice for any and all occasions! Two of my family members tend to be finicky and picky, and EVERYONE finds EVERYTHING to love at Distrito ALWAYS! We prefer to get a bunch of small plates and all share, and their margaritas are killer, from apps to dessert, you simply cannot go wrong!"

  • "The food was amazing. I had the lamb. was done just right. Server was knowledgeable and sensetive to our needs. The place is quite noisy. The second floor is a bit quiter. The noise level did drop off ater 8:00. The biggest concern was where the waiters picked up the food. Right above their heads was a bright neon white sign ala a movie thetar background. My eyes kept looking at it. That being stated, the service and food were on par with a Chef Garces run restaurant."

  • "The food was wonderful and the service was exceptional. Extremely innovative menu, beautifully executed. This restaurant is a great place for trying different foods and sharing. My only complaint; it was so noisy that our table couldn't carry on a conversation without yelling. We were seated upstairs by the window. I noticed that the center of the room was even noisier. However, the food more than makes up for the noise level and we do eat at Distritos whenever we have the opportunity."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "Distrito seems to be headed for the over-expansion heap. The food is still excellent, but my wife and I noticed a serious decline in the quality of the front of house. Our waiter was clumsy - both in his presentation as a server and physically - bumping into our table, etc. In general, we agreed that the energy in the place has changed from engaged and empowered staff to a disengaged and tepid service that reminds me of a hotel. They have a job, but they don't seem very happy about it, and they're just there to earn a buck and go home. Unfortunately, I imagine it's only a matter of time before the quality of the food begins to follow the service."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "Some of the portions were too small...and yes I know what tapas is. The quality of the food was excellent...unlike any other place. It was very frustrating to see our drinks sit on bar for five minutes and our food waiting to be picked up. On more than one occasion, I just wanted to stand up and get my own food and drink. Somebody needs to supervise the waitstaff. Yes there were kinks, but I would go back and ask for a quiet table"

  • "Nothing I ate blew my mind. The Mahi Mahi tacos were like eating fish sticks on a mini tortilla. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and the place was so loud we couldn't hear each other. Our server made several assumptions that didn't sit well with me. The only good thing was that they sat us as soon as we arrived, but that's not enough to make me come back."
    Dined on 3/7/2014
  • "I guess as a disclaimer, I should say that I was unaware when I booked a dinner/drinks reservation for me and my co-workers that this place is "tapas" style. On the whole we found the place horribly overpriced--$8 for two tacos you can eat in 3 bites each? seriously? Even with the drink specials, we each paid over $40 and still left hungry (and, honestly pretty sober too.) More disappointing, though, was that they were completely inflexible about the preparation of the dishes. My friend had her gall bladder removed a few years ago and has to limit her fat intake, and they wouldn't grill (instead of deep frying) the mahi-mahi for her fish tacos. On the whole I'd say this place is not worth your $."

  • "Great small plate type Mexican food that is unique & not your typical Mexican food. Our small group tried almost every vegetarian item, & some gluten free items. Don't come here to find heavy cheesy or oily items, but modern Mexican food with unique items to make them special. The atmosphere is lively with colorful art, tables & chairs."

  • "We arrived a little early and were seated within minutes. The food was amazing. All small plates. Great for sharing and great for trying multiple different dishes. I would definitely go back and recommend to a friend."

  • "Quite the dissapointment. I didn't go for tacos as I realized i should have becuase that's where one gets their money's worth. We had the too tangy guac and salty chips. We had the Tuna Ceviche served on a sliver of a plate with a dallop of lime sorbet and the grilled calamari; a meager four pieces! The Salmon a la plancha was great, but as much as I really wanted to love this place, i'd pobably not go back."

  • "The food was great, the people made the day. The smiles & the warmth & the help, by everyone (& I mean everyone) made the day special. A very pleasant young girl greeted us at the door. There was a couple ahead of us & she was right back to get us. We were early for our reservation & she sat us right away. Very warm & engaging. The waiter brought us some chips & salsa, suggested their margarita (watermelon) & we were already satisfied. After asking us some questions about our likes & dislikes he made some suggestions & we said Yes to everything. One young man brought our food & explained them to us. Another man came & asked if it was our 1st time here & insisted on buying us dessert. The soup, enchilada, brazo & people left us overwhelmed."

  • "Having been to almost all the Garces restaurants over the years we had come to expect a certain level of service when we walked through the door. That all went out the window with Distrito as soon as we sat down. We did not receive chips with our salsa and guacamole. We could not flag any server down and had to stare at our quac for ever before we finally got someone to bring us chips. They brought us the wrong taco and then never brought the correct taco. Our ceviche never arrived either. You would think forgetting all that food would make for a quick or even a cheap meal. You would be wrong."
