District CommonsGreat food and service!First trip to District Commons and we will definitely be going back. The food was delicious and our server was great. It seemed to have something for everyone - nice decor, but not stuffy; a good variety of food and drinks, and not too pricey. Can't wait to go back!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food in the District!Lots of great variety on the menu -- hard to choose. Good specialty drinks as well as ample wines by the glass and a vast beer selection. You'll definitely find something perfect to pair with your food choices.
Our table ordered the pretzel bread, smoked bacon flatbread, blue mussels, fried oysters and two different salads. Not a complaint on any of the food choices -- all excellent.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMWe needed something like this!Employees at the State Department mourned the passing of Kinkaids as the only decent place to take someone to lunch. District Commons is a wonderful replacment for a tasty meal with a bit of class. I've eaten here a couple of times and have always appreciated both the service and the food. I can't recall what I ate as a main course but we had a delectibly light bread with a vegatable topping which could have served as lunch. My lunch guest dug into a hefty piece of chicken with mash and looked quite pleased. There are thankfully lots of restaurants around the Foggy Bottom Metro for all budgets and noise levels. This is the most refined and my favorite for a special meal.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMUpscale American Fare with a TwistThis was my second time to District Commons. I went to celebrate my anniversary. I thought the food was above average (Mountain Trout and Surf & Turf - Steak & Scallops), all very good and the service was good as well. Easy to find something if you are Gluten Free and they could probably make accomodations if you are Dairy-Free as well. Its upscale but fun too with pretzel bread for $2 (no Free bread), flights of beer and comfort food as side dishes.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMterrific serviceMy father and I went to District Commons for my birthday dinner. My dad is a meat-and-potatoes kind of guy and is not used to a more complicated menu. Not only did our server help him make a selection, but when the food arrived and Dad was put off, they made a substitution at no charge. It's great when an upscale place goes out of its way to accommodate a customer. The food was delicious, so I'd definitely go back.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGood find in Foggy BottomAt a conference in nearby Fairmont hotel, needed a walkable venue w/good food. Menu provided very good variety and delivered on taste. Amazing beer choices and a very good wine list, impressive array of U.S. wines, w/a wonderful sauvignon blanc from Washington state I had never tried. Lively and pleasant atmosphere but loud, making table conversation a bit of a challenge.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good-to-excellent foodVery good-to-excellent food and service, but at times the noise level can be excrutiating.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMOutdoor seatingWent there for lunch to celebrate my sister's birthday. Unaware they offered outdoor seating. It was a great experience.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place to brunchI was pleased that District Commons provided more than just the traditional brunch items, so there's something for people who like it plain & simple and for those who are more adventurous. The pretzel baguette was delicious and almost made me want to order another loaf. Our server was courteous and attentative. Good place to have brunch!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMI always enjoy brunch at districtI always enjoy brunch at district commons the food is exceptional.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMVery TastyI was very pleasantly surprised by my experience at District Commons. I started with an asparagus "salad" -- essentially a bundle of asparagus spears wrapped in country ham and grilled. The asparagus was cooked perfectly and the ham and vinagrette dressing that had been drizzled around the plate were an excellent match. My entree was the shrimp and grits, and it was positively decadent. I shudder to think how much cream was involved, but it was very tasty.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful fish special!I've walked by DC a number of times and often wondered about the food. So I booked a lunch with some colleagues and tried their fish and salad special (a Costa Rican white fish). It was exceptional! The service was outstanding and the beer selection is wonderful as well! Simply a fantastic lunch all the way around!5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat! My two colleagues and I ate lunch at DC on May 28, 2013, and everything was great. Our food and drinks were superb, as usual, and our server, Scott, was friendly, attentive, and informative. All three of us left happy. We will be back!5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMPre or Post Kennedy Center spotGreat spot for a pre-matinee weekend brunch, or a post-performance late snack or nightcap. The valet parking is extra-convenient, but it's a quick walk or shuttle ride. The food is well-worth the trip. I'm partial to the crabcake, and the shrimp and grits are another good choice. The blood orange mimosas are also divine.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Spot for Date Night!!My husbankd and I went to District Commons for our weekly date night. It was a great choice. The food was delicious. He had the duck and I had the crabcakes. We both shared a bowl of chili which was the best chili I have had...hands down (the bomb!!). You must try the bread with the mustard butter. My husband even order some bread to go. We will definitely revisit for that good ole chili.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMUpscale casualWanted an upscale casual easy dinner and this was it! Fun eclectic menu; We had the Low and Slow duck and the Burger--both delicious. Extensive wine list reasonable priced. Lots of energy overall. Will definitely go back.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistentThis place keeps the food and the service bright and fresh.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner for 2Great atmosphere. Food was tasty, and the entrees came out a little faster than I thought so we didn't get to fully enjoy the appetizer.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed a festive graduationEnjoyed a festive graduation celebration lunch at District Commons. The menu was fun and inventive and the food was delicious. The wait staff was inattentive, however, and got part of the order wrong. Soda and coffee refills were not easy to procure. Overall however, we had a great time.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThe sauteed scallops specialThe sauteed scallops special was prepared perfectly and was absolutely delectable; the scallops melted in your mouth. The shrimp cocktail continues to be the best we've found in the DC area.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Mother's Day BrunchYummy brunch--bottomless Bloody Mary's also a fun touch. Variety of choices for food lovers. Will be added to my list of DC favorites.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMUn complementary valet$10.00 for valet AND you have to wait 30 minutes for them to bring your car? Poor form District Commons.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was tasty and was gladFood was tasty and was glad to see lots of options for a variety of diners.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMPre-ShowNice easy place to grab a bite before heading over to the Kennedy Center.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWe've been there several times. We've been there several times. Service and food always reliable. Prices reasonable. And, for us on carfree diets, its really close to the metro (foggy Bottom) Only downside is the noise level, but its certinly vibrant and energetic. We'll go again!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was good, not great.Food was good, not great. Menu unimaginative for the prices they charge. I would go back if I needed a lunchtime restaurant in that location but I'd look for other restaurants first.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMthe service was fantasticthe service was fantastic and the shrimp&grits dish was very good.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful spotThis was my second meal at the District Commons and a second good experience. I asked for a quiet table so I could catch up with a friend I haven't seen for a while. We were seated in one of the curtained booths, where we could talk without raising our voices. The food was very good, my friend discovered a new (to her) wine that she liked, and the service was friendly but not intrusive. All in all, a very pleasant experience.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWent for the pretzel bread but...loved it all. We had a great evening including one of the house specialty cocktails, pretzel bread, hand pies, steak, and the burger which were all fabulous. Dessert was amazing too- rocky road sundae- YUM!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat lunch spotI went with a group of 6 people for lunch. We were sitted right away even though we were missing 1 person which was great. The waitress was very polite and was quick. The food was really good and good size portions. The food is southern style, comfort food but with a twist. It wasn't loud and we didn't need to yell to each to be heard. I will definitely go again.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMBlood orange mimosa is actuallyBlood orange mimosa is actually only regular OJ and champagne4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent friendly service.Excellent friendly service. Inventive dishes. Pretzel bread is addictive. Love it! Well b back!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWent for cocktail hour onWent for cocktail hour on Friday...drink list is exceptional, raw bar was solid. Not too crowded and it was great for spontaneous meet-up after work.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMnot many vegetarian itemsOverall a good restaurant and good ambience, but not much in the way of vegetarian options.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a reservation throughHad a reservation through Open Table, got stuck in horrible traffic and called ahead, they held the table for us and got us off to our next engagement on time. Their Barrel Select Manhattan erased all memories of the traffic jam, tomato soup, chowders and asparagus salad all very good.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMReliable choice in nice settingWe've been here several times and it's always a nice experience even for high maintenance guests like myself. I love the setting with windows looking out at D.C.'s Washington Circle. It's not a memorable as some other restaurants, but it is a reliable choice and you won't ever be disappointed that you went there.
Just a couple nit-picky things:
Wished the waiter had told me about the $2 charge for bread. It was worth it; I just don't like surprises.
Way too loud. We had to really raise our voices to hear each other at lunch.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and drinks are alwaysThe food and drinks are always good. The bread is the best. Dessert was wonderful. But our waiter was not very patient. Can't remember his name.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is great and theThe food is great and the wait staff was warm and welcoming- good recommendations on food and dessert!!4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMPleasant but not OutstandingDistrict Commons was a pleasant, delicious dinner - but nothing outstanding. I had the tomato soup and ceasar salad. The ceasar salad was deconstructed with anchovies, which was yummy, but was haphazardly thrown onto the plate in a way that made it look as if it was deconstructed to the point of being thrown together by a kid. My friend's dinner, a fish entree, similarly seemed too small for the plate. Maybe they were having plating/plate size issues that evening?
The honey pie dessert was the most memorable part of the evening - I would order that again in a heartbeat! The honey filling was almost like a pecan pie filling without the nuts (hard to describe).4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMBoyfriend's BirthdayMy boyfriend was very happy that I chose to take him to dinner at District Commons. The service was fantastic and we really felt like they cared that we were celebrating his birthday. The food recommendations from the staff were phenomenal and the wine was amazing. The lighting made the atmosphere conducive for romance and the decor was very pleasant. It wasn't too loud, so we could have intimate conversation. Our waiter checked on us often and the other support staff assisted as well, but it wasn't bothersome. I also felt very accommodated and not like a burden. We will definitely be dining here again and not just for special occasions!4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Brunch Spot!I loved the brunch options here - a little different than your traditional brunch, but so tasty! I had the chorizo breakfast quesadilla and it was divine! Top it off with the bottomless blood orange mimosa's and your brunch is complete. Our server was very attentive and did not skip a beat. Will definitely be going back.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food, great selectionGood food, great selection of beers and wine. Restaurant was quite loud.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMHigh quality food, energeticHigh quality food, energetic ambience, highly recommended.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMBeen here several times forBeen here several times for business lunches. Nicoise salad, this time, was good, but not great. The tuna was seared well, but the flavor was like something I could have made at home. Pretzel bread was buttery delicious as always.
While not one of the best meals I've had there, I'll still be back.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWe four senior citizens, longWe four senior citizens, long time Washington area residents, enjoyed brunch a great deal. The Eggs Benedict were perfect and the seafood chowder wonderful. My husband said he could work his way through the menu -- and he is not always the most adventurous diner. We will be back.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first time atThis was our first time at the restaurant. My husband had the duck and I had the shrimp and grits. Both were excellent. We told our server we had Kennedy Center tickets and he did a great job of keeping the meal moving. We will go back again.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat time, would definitely returnI took my family here who were visiting from out of town. We were all very impressed by the excellent service and drinks. The food was also very good, as we ordered about half the menu.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWe requested to be moved toWe requested to be moved to a quieter table and were accommodated very graciously in spite of it being a very busy evening.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMImpeccable all around!!From incredible food to the impeccAble service, District Commons is top notch. The Farm to table approach and unique pairings of the cuisine delivered one if the best meals i have had this is year. The menu is fit for even the most discerning foodie. We will definitely being going back.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a lovely and quick lunch.Had a lovely and quick lunch. The food was very tasty, definitely heavy. It was a bit loud during lunch rush, but we managed. Professional staff, everyone was happy with what they ordered. I wish they had more vegetarian options so I could take more people here.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
