Diner Reviews

  • "We've been coming here for about 4 years and the food is always consistently very good. The presentation is classy as well. Lunch prices are reasonable, dinner a little more, but what you would expect for the quality. Some of the best steaks I've had. The ambience is very unique to DC. Old exposed columns and architecture from the original building, great artwork. Very stately, high class. We went for Easter brunch and I think out waiter may have been covering multiple sections so the service wasn't as great as we've had in the past. However, once most of his big tops left he was very attentive. We brought our 2 year old. It's just loud enough to drown his noise out, but isn't a noisy scene. Will continue to go back!"

  • "The Restaurant atmosphere and cuisine was great. The noise level was good. The service could have ben a little better - the waiter did not check back to see if we needed beverage refills, however she did ask us how the food was - so that was good. I would recommend this place to others and would definitely come back as well. I am a foodie, so I enjoy checking out new spots. "

  • "this was our second visit to the DC Chophouse. Everything was delicious. Also, I enjoyed the unique selection of beers. My wife and son had prime rib, and I had the sirloin. All were cooked perfectly. Our waiter Robert was very personable and attentive. I have a feeling we will be returning often as my son will be attending college in DC"

  • "good food. Good service. No complaints from me. Keep making the good corn bread."

  • "I would describe our experience (appetizers in evening, brunch the next morning) as average. Food was average. Ambiance was croweded during evening, less so during brunch. Servers were good once you got attention. Food was average. Main reason for going was convenience to Verizon Center, but there are other options."

  • "Ordered prime rib, salad and appetizer. Entrees and salad arrived in 10 minutes, appetizer a couple minutes later. Entrees were lukewarm at best. Server was very attentive and apologetic for early food/late appetizer delivery. We were in a booth abutting a server station and the servers/busboys repeatedly slammed cabinet doors at the server station - it might not have been loud on the other side of the restaurant but as close as we were it sounded like gunshots. We're pretty easy to please when it comes to dining out, but the lukewarm food, misdelivery of the appetizer and noise combine to ensure we won't be back. I'm sure our $100 bill (including tip) would be better spent at another eatery in Penn Quarter."

  • "This was a perfect spot to take some guest from out of town. We all truly enjoyed the dining experience. the food was exceptional and the service was great. I am looking forward to going back. The menu had a lot of options as well as daily specials. One of my top choices to take out of town guest."

  • "Steak was cooked below requested done-ness. Server took it back but didn't return until we inquired, some 20-minutes later, as we couldn't find her earlier. We split our group. The rest of us went to the Wizards game but my brother stayed back and ate alone. No offer to rectify. We're not coming back."

  • "We were in on a Friday night, and although the restaurant was very busy, our table was ready at our reservation time and we were quickly seated. Our waiter was quick to take our initial drink order, but from that point forward, he was not terribly attentive. Our food was tasty, well proportioned, prepared as described in the menu and arrived in a reasonable time after we placed our order. Prices are reasonable for this area. The menu has enough variety that it should please just about any appetite, so I'd definitely give this a shot if you're in the area."

  • "The dining event was unfortunate on all levels. The waiter wanted nothing more than to go home and he spoke about other restaurants incessantly while I am trying to take my client to dinner there. It was disappointing from beginning to end."

  • "It was a pretty busy Tuesday night, but I don't think that this was out of the ordinary. It took (literally) 7-10 minutes for a server to even come and say hello. That's a long wait."

  • "The District Chophouse has been a consistently good choice when I have needed a "nice place" to meet friends. Most resently a group of us met for dinner and had a great time thanks to the well crafted beer, helpful waitstaff and excellent food."

  • "We went to DC-house, to celebrate my husband's birthday. It used to be his favorite restaurant and we hadn't been in quite sometime (kids, distance, cash flow). Reservations were easy to make, and even parking wasn't a huge problem...considering it was 5pm on a Friday night. It was very crowded and a little tighter than I recall, but it could have been that we had always been seated in a booth and this time we were seated at a table. We ordered the tuna appetizer, which was the worst I have taste yet. I ordered the Prime Rib, which was med/well and not medium, and my husband ordered the Filet, which was well and not med/well. In all we were both extremely disappointed with our food and cannot say we would be rushing back anytime soon."

  • "I've been to this restaurant a few times, but this time wasn't the best experience. Had friends from out of town with me (and it was their first time, not sure they would want to go back). The main issue was the steaks weren't seasoned well n didn't come with any sauce! One of the friends had to ask for A-sauce!! Come on, it is a steakhouse and all the steaks should come with some in house made sauce. Wouldn't mind to pay extra for it."

  • "Whenever my husband wants a burger and good beer, District Chophouse is exactly where we go! His partners also like to hang out at District Chophouse!"

  • "It was my wife's Birthday and they surprised her with a dessert with a candle. Our waiter was very nice and knowledgeable. And he never hovered over us."

  • "Great Service, and the food was wonderful. I would recommend the corn bread."

  • "The bar was crowded for Friday happy hour as we waited for our table bot the Cherry Blossom ale was great and we were seated half an hour early. The food was good not great service was okay too. Comparable to Old Ebbs."

  • "Overall this place isn't that bad. Good service, decent ambience, the food was very good considering the price. The only thing that really peeved me was their happy hour policy. Nowhere on their online menu, nor their menu that they hand out to customers, does it say that happy hour prices are only available at the bar, and not at tables. I know this is a common policy among restaurants, especially fancy ones, however I feel like this policy should be clearly labeled. So if you're looking online don't get it twisted about their happy hour policy"

  • "I am moderately handicapped and the servers were great about finding me a table that would work for me without hesitation and with smiles all around. Our waiter was great, there when we needed something new, not hovering when we didn't. The chophouse salad was just the right size, tasty and filling without being overwhelmed with dressing. I would certainly go here again."

  • "Arrived later than our reservation but were seated promptly. Our server Tasha is great. The food was tasteful. This is an all around great place to dine."

  • "Nice place to have a leisurely dinner with friend, family or business partner. Delicious meal and very fair pricing. Highly recommend!"

  • "Every entree sounded amazing, but we ended up with the prime rib and the tenderloin tips which were both amazing. (And again the second day because we were both so full!) The spinach artichoke dip was creamy and pleasantly chunky, and the grilled flatbread was a delicious touch. I enjoyed the cherry blossom beer immensely, and though the bourbon stout was a little heavy for my usual the flavor was great. My date enjoyed the IPA (his usual favorite) and we were both pleasantly surprised by the nut brown. I would recommend District Chophouse for date night, a group of friends, or family (not kids) to enjoy a good meal and great beer."

  • "Medium rare. The small cut is just right. Cooked perfectly. Very juicy. Check the lighting of the restaurant at night. It adds to the treat of eating out."

  • "Forget Capitol Grill as the best steak. Maybe they have a little better food but at triple the price and barely a difference I'll take Chophouse any day of the week. Every waiter I've had is fun and vibrant. I've never seen a steak come out at a different temperature than ordered. Where are you going to get a great, perfectly cooked 16oz prime rib with a big side like mashed potatoes for 29.95? Highly recommend."

  • "We were visiting for the weekend for leisure and stopped in here for dinner on a saturday night. Its a relatively large place. The food was decent, some of the homebrews were better than others. I would try somewhere different on a return to DC but I wouldn't steer people away."

  • "I actually mean't to send the Restaurant a email and forgot until I received this email from Open Table. Our Waitress service was terrible. Just because I went to the Ladies when I arrived, and they made the rest of the table wait to order drinks until I returned, then she took forever to come back. When she took our order, she went about the restaurant mingling for a few minutes before she actually went to the computer to put the order in. Even though the food was not late coming out, the service was poor. She never asked did we want to order something to drink, she just gave all of us water (it was 5 of us). Her presence to the table was little to none. We had to catch her on the run to ask for more water. Worst experience ever."

  • "Met friends and had a leisurely Sunday evening dinner. Food was tasty although no one raved about it. Service was adequate but not overly attentive or engaging. The highlight was definitely taking in the vintage Washington DC photos decorating the dining space and private dining room in the basement. Love the nostalgia!"

  • "Walking into the restaurant is like hitting a wall of noise. My friend said that our table was quieter than the bar where he had been waiting for me, but we still felt like we were shouting to carry on a conversation. The service was impeccable and the waiter was very knowledgable about both the bar offerings and the menu. I'd definitely go back again, but I might take ear plugs along!"

  • "My husband and I have made this a must every time we come to D.C., we were seated immediately, the Prime Rib was delicious, my husband said his was the best Filet he had had in a very long time. Our waiter was very attentive and had a great personality. Over all we had a very enjoyable evening."

  • "The District Chophouse looks great, with nice woodwork throughout the restaurant. The food, while the menu is limited in terms of variety of seafood options, is good. It just doesn't have the service level a steakhouse at its price point should have. There are better places right in Penn Quarter. However, any restaurant that serves a good NY Strip is worth a second try at least - hence the 3 stars."

  • "I've been coming to the DC Chop house since 2006. I love everything about it...the atmosphere, the beer, and especially the food! The one thing I don't think I've ever been really all that impressed with is the service. It's not that it is bad...it's just that it could be so much better in my opinion. Our last visit was on March 15th and our waiter was quite slow, and showed no real energy or enthusiasm in regards to anything he was doing. My suggestion...pay a visit to a Bonefish Grill. My wife and I have eaten at quite a few of their restaurants and their service is always phenominal!"

  • "This is my back up restaurant when I cant get a reservation for my primary one when I go to the wizards game. Food is good the service is just bad. Order a beer before our food order and we waited over 10 minutes before it arrives, really! Just takes forever to get our food, we are always late for the game, and we arrive at our seats 45 minutes before game time and only order an entrée thinking to speed thinks up."
