Diner Reviews
  • "We drove up from Illinois to meet friends for dinner on a week nite. When we arrived we found out that the restaurant's kitchen was under construction and they were only able to provide a limited menu. But they were very creative! They had menus from the restaurants next store. We had three sets of menus, a gracious host and wait staff.....we ordered small plates from Distil, a few items from the other restaurants and they made it a very fun adventure. The drinks were wonderful....fun had by all....we will return next month and they promised to have a full menu."

  • "Great drink menu. Love the Hemmingway. Great sliders, along with the best chicken and waffles north of the Mason-Dixon Line."

  • "I always enjoy going to Distil. Drinks are innovative and delicious. Food is great for sharing - think smart takes on Wisconsin favorites that are easy to share. Had gone this time for a band that was supposed to play Friday night, but had a different band instead. Other than that, another enjoyable night at Distil."

  • "Service was bad. Food not anything special for the price there asking"

  • "We dined here for downtown dining week and they absolutely killed it. I had the beat salad, wonderful, and the scallops, which were honestly the best I have ever had. The craft cocktails were well made and strong, interesting flavor combinations."

  • "food was good, but probably won't return due to service being suboptimal. wasn't too noisy, music was a a tad on the loud side. better for couple dinning or small group of 4. drink menu looked great, though pricey for the amount they give you. Hard to find, sign out front flashes in/out."

  • "We had a party of 4 and a reservation at 7:15, we didn't get water until 7:49 and then waited another 15 minutes for our drinks and to place an order. Our server was friendly however his excuse of "were busy because of downtown dining" was irrelevant due to the fact that there were more servers and staff than parties of people to take care of."

  • "Amazing cocktail list. Great food. Attentive (but not intrusive) Service. What more could you ask for in a dining experience. This was my first time at Distil and it won't be my last. "

  • "Did not end up ordering the Milwaukee Diner's week menu, but the food was exceptional!"

  • "We dined here with another couple for downtown dining week. The food and drinks were very good, but I was disappointed in the punctuality of the restaurant. We had a reservation and checked in early, and they said they wouldn't be ready until our reservation appt so we we went next door for a drink. No problem here. However, we came back at exactly the reservation time and we're told they didn't have a table ready but were directed to grab a drink at the bar. We didn't end up sitting down until at least 30 minutes after our reservation. It would have been nice had they told us they were 30 minutes behind when we initially checked in so we could have enjoyed our drinks next door awhile longer. All that said, I would go back again."

  • "Went for Downtown Dining Week...the service was great, the food tasted great, but pretty small portions. "

  • "Service was very slow. 15 minutes before someone took our drink order, another 45 minutes after that before we got our salads. The butter sauce on the steak was intensely salted and barely edible. Cannnot recommend this place for dinner. Pretty disappointing."

  • "Distil is a perfect meeting ground for people to come from work and meet in the middle. Looking for a great vibe, good service and tasty food, then this is the place. It was a great place to catch up with a friend that works as much as I do. It was nice to end up at a place that allowed for that. Thanks distil! April"

  • "At the last minute my girlfriend found out she had Valentine's Day off, and we decided to celebrate. Thank goodness I thought of Distil. The restaurant was plenty busy but still had an 8:15 p.m. reservation open. The staff was even able to push it back to 8:30 when we got a late start heading out. Food was quite good (definitely order the cheese curds if you go) and reasonably priced. Drinks were well-made and the bourbon list was outstanding. We'll definitely be back."

  • "My boyfriend and I ate here for dinner on valentines day, we have been here before, but just for drinks. We choose options off the special valentines day menu, which were 2 drinks, 2 small plates and desert, we also ordered extras. The small plate style was perfect for 2 and everything was delicious! Drinks were amazing like always, and the service was very very good. Would definitely come back again to dine."

  • "Three of us stopped in at 7 on a Friday night. In town for college visit to Marquette so did not know anything about the place. We were quite surprised to be the only ones there. Turned out to be small plates and they were fantastic. We shared the chicken sliders (3), beef sliders (3), pork cubes with honey - yum, flatbread pizza, and frites with two dipping sauces. The dishes were all really good. The beef burger was a favorite. The buns were so perfect and the flavor combo with the perfectly cooked beef was so good. My husband had their Old Fashioned Old Fashioned and loved it. He is picky...ended up ordering a second drink. Good beer selection. Seemed like a trendy spot - good music playing and started to fill up as we left."

  • "Distil was a great choice for my friend's reunion. The staff made special accommodations for us and greeted us personally when we arrived without all of the guests in tow. Service was attentive without being annoying, food was great and the space is divine. I will be back!"

  • "There is a dearth of places in Milwaukee serving up-scale food "late" (i.e. 9:30 pm on a Monday) but after working late I wanted to take my boyfriend out for his birthday and found Distil. We ordered several small plates and cocktails -- everything was delicious and service was prompt. Our only complaint was the music levels seemed a bit high (on a Monday night there wasn't a lot of noise to cover up)."

  • "Went there with a group of 6 ladies. The scene was very welcoming for a group! We order craft cocktails and wine, which were very tasty. However, it took 15 minutes to get out drinks. The menu was small but the good was delicious. Will definitely go back!"

  • "We've been here before and always had an exceptionally wonderful experience. However, this time was a little different. Our server seated us, and it felt like we were inconveniencing her - she had no interest in making smalltalk about the Woodford Reserve barrel at the entrance as she walked us to our table. My bourbon drink was well prepared and just the perfect blend of sweet and sour and bitter. In the past we've dined here on Thursdays when there've been great specials, but this night it was just the regular menu. The pork belly was scrumptious. The asparagus flatbread was good but didn't have the peashoots promised on the menu. The smelt and carrot cake was also good. By the end of the meal, our server had warmed up a bit."

  • "Was a little pretentious. Good fun cocktails, but the cheese plate was a bit over the top with very smelly cheeses. The bartender was new, but really nice."

  • "Dined with 1 other person for Downtown Dining Week. Waited 20+ mins for our salad and got handed our entrees. I refused them and asked for the salads and received the reply "Oh it's crazy, you know" like it was no big deal. Dining took about 2 hours for 3 courses. Food was tasty so their chef is very good, but with other restaurant choices in Milwaukee, I look forward to trying somewhere else."

  • "Went for dinner here on destination Thursday - great deal at $30 per person for a three course meal with paired drinks. 1. parking was an absolute nightmare! 2. The food was pretty fantastic - the salad was pretty meh bit the main course and dessert were great and the portions were well sized. They didn't skimp on the alcohol in the paired cocktails either - a nice surprise. 3. the service - meh. We had to wait at the bar for a good 10 minutes despite having had reservations and there were empty tables while we were waiting. When we were actually seated at one of the tables which had been open the whole time, it didn't even have silverware."

  • "Having had a great cocktail and app experience here in the past, I came back for a dinner out during restaurant week and left extremely disappointed. I know it was busy, but by the tail end of the week, I hoped they would have figured out a system. Seating to ordering drinks 15 min -receiving apps +15 -FINALLY receiving drinks +10 more (that's a full 25 min until actually got our drinks!) I lost count after that, but it was about a 2 hour and 15 minute meal. The food was good as expected, but I couldn't believe the inattentive service. At least 4 people waited on us, and we saw the waitstaff arguing over who was taking care of us. It's going to take a while before I go back to give it another shot for the great food and cocktails."

  • "Their menu is small plates but well worth it. A little pricey but totally get what you pay for. Great food and unique drinks with a great ambiance. Highly suggest their Destination Thursday dining special (3 course meal with drink pairings from a featured country for $30)"

  • "Service was bad. It wasn't even busy. The food took a very long time to come out. It was ok at best. The price of the drinks and the food, were very high even for downtown, and the drinks were poorly mixed. The wine selection was good, but again, over priced. You can get better food at a lower price with better service at many other establishments in this fine city. Skip it."

  • "I love the ambiance of this place - the coppor ceiling, cozy booths and classic bar. I ordered the Destination Thursday three course meal with cocktail pairings featuring the cuisine of Fiji. I was entralled with the cocktails - they were interesting and delicious and not cloyingly sweet. The food was also scrumptious and beautifully presented. My husband ordered off the regular menu. The fried smelt brought back wonderfully nostalgic memories of his grandmother's cooking. The mushroom tart was savory and satisfying. He also ordered a ginger cocktail that was quite refreshing. The service was also spot on, not rushed but always prompt and professional. We got to our theater show on time."

  • "This restaurant group has good reputation and this was my first visit to one of their restaurants. The food was pretty good. I had their burger, which was the best burger I've had in a long time, although I rarely eat burgers. The cocktail I had was tasty, but pretty expensive for what you get. The service was not anything special. Our server could have at least pretended she wanted to be there, which would have made the experience much better. Music selection was weird for the decor. Nothing really seemed to meld for the ambiance. People dressed up and people in t-shirts and shorts. All in all it was OK. With so many other restaurants to go to and try in this city I won't be going back anytime soon though."

  • "My husband and I loved the unique menu on the night we dined. Thursdays are called Destination Thursdays. The menu changes from week to week...but three courses, complete with three drinks for $30. It couldn't be beat! The service was great and the staff are willing to answer any questions. It was the perfect place for our anniversary!"
