Diner Reviews
  • "Menu leans toward fish. But, there was plenty of choice for all types of diners. Meal was very good. Portions are well sized. Food was hot and tasty. Staff are very friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Well-priced for downtown dining. Restaurant adjoins entrance to a hotel and 25th street is mostly residential. It's destination dining."

  • "Nice quiet, quaint setting. The service was outstanding and the food was excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Valet parking man was very kind and prompt with the service. Dining room experience was very warm. We even left to take pictures in the lobby after placing our orders."

  • "Very friendly service and atmosphere. Great lunch - we ordered the price fixed lunch - had trout which was excellent, salad was also excellent. They have an apple dessert which is very special that I've not seen anywhere else."

  • "food and service consistently very good. Comfortable and pleasant environment."

  • "We ate here for the second time, and for the second time we were pleasantly surprised at how good the food is for a restaurant that doesn't seem to get much buzz. The bar has the best selection of we've found in DC of small batch bourbons made outside Kentucky."

  • "My husband and I were looking for something new to try before the theatre and we are so glad we went to DISH+drinks. We were so surprised at how terrific both the food and the service were - we will definitely go back. We enjoyed three courses - and each was prepared and presented well, flavorful, interesting but not weird, and the mixed drinks were done to our particular specifications. We are trying to find an excuse to go the Kennedy Center so we can go back to the restaurant!"

  • "Food was good but the noise level was very loud which made it I hard to converse. Service was great"

  • "Close to Foggy Bottom Metro Station. Small, quiet, and intimate. Kevin was a great wine connoisseur who took our Oder, and was very personable. Good food - though the "Steak Frites" was not what we expected. Description led us to believe it would be sliced ribeye steak atop a salad with small, skinny fried potatoes (frites), but instead it was a full ribeye steak, side of salad, and side of French fries. All good, but not what was expected. Also had scallops - a bit overdone. Spinach had lots of garlic, though tasty. Great wine."

  • "Overall pretty good--but my steak (steak frites entree), ordered medium rare, was very rare in significant part. The frisee salad that it came with was kind of bland, and the fries were not memorable either. Not bad, just decent."

  • "It is worth seeking out this small hotel restaurant. I have eaten many good meals but the outstanding dinners I can count on my two hands. This is one of the outstanding ones. My husband's rib eye was done to perfection and my free range chicken was moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. The only suggestions I have for DISH is they need to have the name imprinted on the glass doors (We were not sure if it was the restaurant or the hotel bar) and the hostess stand needs to be at that front door (it is almost hidden)"

  • "A friend had recommended Dish and we were not disappointed! The food was wonderful, our server gave us great service and was very engaging. We then walked over to the Kennedy Center for the NSO and then returned to pick up our car. We probably saved time by parking at Dish instead of the Kennedy Center itself. We will definitely return and recommend it to friends."

  • "Food is quite good. Able to serve quickly enough for those going to Kennedy Center. As to noise level, it is best not to sit near the bar. Can be very busy on KC nights. Good variety on menu!!"

  • "A great place to eat before a Kennedy Center event. They provide parking for dinner and the event at a very reasonable price. The food was wonderful and we had a great waiter. A true local gem."

  • "The food was great, the location great and the bar tender/waiter (Pete?) great...and he had a sense of humor...perfect. Felt right at home. It doesn't get any better than DISH & drinks in Fogy Bottom...really!"

  • "Dish is a short walk from the Kennedy Center so it is a good bet for pre and apres theater. It is small so make a reservation. We had a very nice late dinner last Sat. night."

  • "Love my dinner at Dish. Our table was reserved and waiting. The service was excellent as was the food. The valet parking dinner and Kennedy Center deal was the way to go. It was a five minute walk from there to the Kennedy center."

  • "I had the Ahi tuna which was great. Others had crab cakes and the swordfish special - everyone raved. The setting was a bit stark. Everyone was friendly."

  • "Nice food...Nice wine...Lovely staff...Small spot that gets crowded quickly, and a bit noisy when crowded, so try to come early or late. Also offers pre-theater special for Kennedy Center crowd."

  • "It's a very small place. Excellent selection of well priced wines. Entries are classics and very well done. My steak and frites were excellent and my wife's risotto was also wonderful. We went to the Kennedy center after dinner and they were nice enough to keep our leftovers in their refrigerator. We'll be returning."

  • "Great food, friendly staff. Not to large so never feels crowded even when it is full. All around great place."

  • "DISH+Drinks is a small restaurant in a hotel in the West End, walking distance to the Kennedy Center and to GWU. I was there several weeks ago for dinner and this week for lunch. The food was great both times and the service wonderful. I had the same waitress and she remembered me, although I was there with different people each time. Her recommendations about menu items were "spot-on" and she was charming (and not intrusive) while seeing to our needs."

  • "Nice option for drinks/dinner before going to Kennedy Center."

  • "I decided to make a reservation here prior to an event at the Kennedy Center based on other reviews. Due to a traffic snafu we were very late for our reservation. Thankfully the table was still waiting for us when we arrived. The service was outstanding...everyone was on the move getting the food out. We both did the pre-dinner three course meal, which was more than enough food and quite delicious. We were in a hurry, so couldn't linger long and really savor the dessert. I would definitely return again. The restaurant is small and intimate so the larger party near us contributed to the energetic noise level."

  • "Dish surprised me: quite pleasantly. It's located in the lobby of a hotel tucked away on 25th St., which this DC native thought was only residential. It reminded me of old DC: no line; no wait; no pretense. The service was prompt, and our entrees (crab cakes and steak frites) was delicious."

  • "My friend and I sample restaurants all over the Washington DC metropolitan area, usually going to ones that appeal to us and to which we have not been before. We chose this one because of its proximity to the Kennedy Center -- we wanted an early dinner in advance of a concert. Very few people were in the restaurant at the hour we dined there, so we don't know what the noise level is when the restaurant is full. However, the food and the service were excellent and we agreed that we would go back -- which, for us, is high praise."

  • "the writeups sounded like a hot great pre-theater place. it was a very small hotel bar with a restaurant and a limited menu. food was average"

  • "We eat here before going the the NSO concerts at the Kennedy Center. Valet parking is inexpensive and we pickup the car after concerts. The menu is excellent and the food is superb. Very pleasant atmosphere."

  • "Brought my girlfriend here to surprise her for for a special occasion. It was a Wednesday night, so the place wasn't particularly busy. The food was excellent (I recommend the risoto), our waiter was upbeat and very personable, and they were quick to offer good recommendations on the menu choices when we said we were in a hurry. The prices are very reasonable compared the rest of this overpriced neighborhood, which makes it an ideal location for dinner before a show at the Kennedy Center, which is a two or three minute walk away. Highly recommended."

  • "Dish is a wonderful restaurant with great food, nice wine list and exceptional service. It is a neighborhood establishment, but it is also an excellent stop for drinks and dinner before a show at the Kennedy Center."

  • "My friend and I truly enjoyed our dining experience. This restaurant is really close to both Foggy Bottom metro and the Kennedy Center. Anyone who needs a place for dinner before the show, this is a great place. The menu is great and the service was wonderful."

  • "It shouldn't be so hard to make a tasty chicken sandwich, but Dish just can't seem to make theirs work. Dish would do better to raise its standards by sticking with simple items. We diners would appreciate greatly a couple of delicious soups, some basic sandwiches, nice salads, and maybe even a slice of quiche lorraine at lunch time. Skip the rubbery cheese, the heavy hand with the thyme, and the effort to do more than the kitchen is capable of doing."

  • "Our recent eating experience outperformed our theatrical one (beware Flashdance: The Musical) thanks to a young engaging waiter, a table by the fireplace (our request on Open Table was granted) and some tasty food at sensible prices. My friend had salmon and I had the steak fritte and both were delicious, as were our salads. When we noticed time was winding down and the curtain would be going up soon, the waiter both quickly switched our dessert course on the prixe fixed menu to simply coffee and quickly charged both our credit cards. Overall, a lovely experience."

  • "My wife and I were looking for a great place to eat and made reservations at dish+drinks in downtown Washington DC. Although the place was small in size the bar tender and staff were friendly and outstandingly customer service oriented! However the food was "second to none" the "best to date". I would highly suggest this restaurant for anyone!"
