Diner Reviews
  • "A great easy-on-the-wallet option in downtown Santa Fe."

  • "This was our first time to try Dinner for Two. It was a Sunday night with a special Sunday night menu. The food was well prepared and very good and such a good bargain. I would highly recommend it. The service was excellent. There was live music, classical Spanish guitar. Overall the experience was excellent."

  • "I took a friend to this restaurant and she had never been there before. She will return again. Great food, great prices too."

  • "We picked out this restaurant from home (Connecticut) and were rewarded beyond our expectations. Perfectly calibrated service, wonderful food and such a cozy atmosphere. The live classical guitar music was an added bonus. Talked to a local regular customer while we were visiting. He said he is a once-a-week customer. I could see, if you like eating out weekly, that it would be hard to not try everything on the menu."

  • "Service was attentive but not intruding. The table service caesar salad was excellent, with fresh ingredients in just the right amount of seasonings. The restaurant practices farm to table to farm: most of the ingredients are locally grown; food waste is sent back to the farm to feed the chickens; used oil is picked up to be processed into biofuels."

  • "D42 is an unassuming place - you may even miss it if you didn't know it was there. But once inside, everyone made us feel welcome and glad we chose this place for dinner. Our meal started with the homemade hot bread which was scrumptious! We were lucky enough to be there on a day when they were testing a new appetizer of "lamb balls" (aka lamb sliders) and they were really, really tasty - if they show up on the menu, we highly recommend them. The table side Ceasar salad was very good & quite large. We both had the beef tenderloin; it was cooked to perfection and was delicious. The snap peas were so fresh and sweet. We wanted to try the banana fosters but were too stuffed! Fantastic wine list & knowledgable staff. Great find!"

  • "A comfortable and relaxing place for Sunday dinner. Good food well prepared, if not trendy, and a great 3 course prix fix at $19 on Sunday. Always a wine special too for $25. Apparently there are plans to renovate the bar area soon so we look forward to returning!"

  • "Even though Dinner for Two is only a few blocks off the main square in Santa Fe the restaurant is mostly frequented by locals which was a plus for us as we like to avoid touristy crowds. The waitress was very pleasant and accommodating. When our 10 year old daughter said with glee that she wanted steak our waitress told us that the chef could make her a small steak if she'd like. It was nice to know that they include children and made us feel more welcome. Everything we ate from the steak, which was cooked perfectly to the veal marsala to my fish and our bananas foster was delicious. Next time I'm trying the duck confit tacos!"

  • "Our first experience was great - food, service, everything."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "First when we tried to order a bottle of wine, the first two selections on the menu were not available, and there was an excuse of a new wine menu coming soon, so we had to go with a bottle that was much too expensive. When our food finally came, it was lukewarm to cold. My sea bass was overcooked, cold and dry. Things seem to have gone downhill."

  • "the food is good , the bread is delicious, the service is outstanding"

  • "The service, food and setting we're all terrific. A lovely place to enjoy a delicious meal and spend an evening conversing with good friends. We were completely satisfied and somewhat surprised with the exceptionally good food and tasteful ambience. I will go back again and again!"

  • "It took a few visits. Nowweeftle are comfortable, the seats and bancos are also comfortable. The glassware is really clean! It sparkles! Food is inventive, tasty. We made a reservation before we left."

  • "Our recent return to Dinner for Two confirmed that solid cooking remains the strength of this downtown 'locals-secret'. From the delicious fresh bread to the well made 'custom' Caesar salad and the excellent entrees (fried chicken & 'Frenched' chicken breast stuffed w/ sundried tomatoes and Gruyere). The Sunday Dinner for $19 remains a great deal as well. We look forward to the rumored 'update to the kitchen/bar area' and will return soon."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our 20th anniversary at Dinner for Two in Santa Fe. It is a small restaurant but everyone gets individual attention. We shared the crab cake appetizer, the chateaubriand (which is actually made for two people), and a delicious chocolate fudge cake with blackberry ice cream along with a bottle of cabernet sauvignon. Everything was delicious and the service was impeccable. They also do a Caesar salad for two or more and it is prepared tableside as is the chateaubriand. The tableside presentations are really fun and make it even more special. If you are in Santa Fe, do not miss this hidden gem."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "Everything is wonderful and so is the wait staff. The presentation is always lovely, and everything is cooked to perfection. I bring everyone I know here, and they are always surprised when they walk in how beautiful and romantic the restaurant is . . . especially given the modest outside. Don't miss this place!"

  • "My husband and I went there to enjoy our anniversary dinner. The food and service were both outstanding. We are planning to return next year to Santa Fe just to dine at Dinner for Two again. Do yourself a favor.....go!"

  • "Went to Dinner for Two specifically for soft-shell crab, and were not disappointed. This is such a special occasion for those of us living in the high desert that it's nice of the restaurant to alert us by e-mail when these special events come up. This is a favorite of ours from many years ago, and the restaurant continues to amaze us---still comes up with innovative dishes and these occasional special offerings."

  • "We had the most amazing dining experience at D42. We remembered this restaurant and returned for a second time while in Santa Fe. There were four of us and we began with the Melted Leek Tart, and Onion Soups. Dinner continued with Veal Marsala which was fantastic, "Frenched" Stuffed Chicken Breast , and the specialg was a Soft Shell Crab. The highlight of the evening, were the desserts. We shared dessert: the Warmed Chocolate Fudge Cake with Black Raspberry Ice Cream. BUT the AMAZING PART: the restaurant was out of bananas so the server offered to zip out on his scooter to get some to make the BANANAS FOSTER! TRULY A MEMORABLE EVENING! A SPECIAL EVENING MADE EVEN MORE SO BY THE ATTENTIVE STAFF AND DELICIOUS FOOD! THANK YOU SO MUCH!"

  • "We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at our favorite neighborhood restaurant, Dinner For Two. I had my first soft shelled crabs & now I'm hooked! So light & crisp & delicious. My husband had his fav, beef tenderloin, cooked perfectly as always....which isn't easy since he prefers meat well-done but Dinner For Two always prepares his beef just as he orders. We started with another fav of ours, the Caesar Salad For Two made tableside. It was amazing as usual as well as the toasty loaf of carmelized onion bread. Excellent wine & service. From start to finish, we thoroughly enjoy an evening at Dinner For Two!"

  • "We ordered a tableside bananas foster and the liquor was not cooked down enough so it was not very good. We told the waitress and she was very apologetic and took it off our bill. Still one of my favorite restaurants."
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "The Sunday Prix Fixe is great. Only $19 per three-course meal. This time my wife had the rib-eye for a $7 upcharge. It had a little more fat than I would anticipate from this restaurant, but was cooked to perfection at med-rare. I had the veal piccata and it was perfection. The $25 special bottles of wine (we had a Syrah) are good choices for the price."

  • "This restaurant is a great find. Tucked away and not flashy the interior invites you to focus on food and quiet conversation."

  • "This was my third visit and went with another couple. The food was outstanding...try the seafood sampler! The service was terrific. Although the atmosphere is casual, the service and food are far from casual...just an outstanding dinner. A stroll through the plaza just ended a terrific evening...."

  • "Took my wife there to celebrate our 30th anniversary... Was a Monday night and really slow so we had great personal attention of our server and the chef... Food was excellent. We had the Veal and the Lamb and both were prepared well and flavorful... The wine selected was well mated to the meal and we had a nice special desert."

  • "This small place is well worth a try. We were seated at a corner table with pillows. The classical guitarist was right across from us which was nice. The food was good the service great. The table side dessert making was fun."

  • "Good food, service and ambiance. The owners are present in food preparation dining room operations and in making you feel at home and welcome."

  • "Food was Ok as well as the service. Atmosphere, non existent. We were there at 8PM on a Saturday night and there were literally four couples and the entertainment left as we sat down. The waiter forgot to order one of the two entrees, when they were clearly not budy at all."
    Dined on 5/24/2014
  • "We did not stay for dinner. After looking at the menu and seeing nothing that appealed to either of us, we left for another restaurant."
    Dined on 5/24/2014
  • "The restaurant was great...good vibe. Very nice inventive menu. The food was excellent and was very organic. We were there on a Friday night and they had a wonderful gentleman playing the guitar...making everything very special. This restaurant is in a good location with good parking available. What a treat to be able to relax in a nice calm environment and really enjoy our dinner. I shall return the next time I'm in Santa Fe and would recommend to our friends and family. "

  • "A perfect place for us to celebrate our anniversary. Loved the way they served us cookies with our coffee by writing Happy Anniversary on the plate in chocolate. Everyone was very accommodating and service was great. The one bad part was my husband's filet was over done but mine was perfect. We will go back again. The champagne was very good too!"

  • "We had four lovely/ delicious meals at Dinner For Two. The friendly staff and owners who mingle with the guests and serve them right along with the staff, are gracious hosts. We always find innovative combinations of ingredients on the menu, and enjoy the table side preparation of Ceasar salad and flambe desserts. Local produce and meats are featured, and everything is fresh and tasty. Don't miss this cozy and enjoyable restaurant when in Santa Fe."

  • " Weekend getaway to Santa Fe, looking to cap off days of hiking around to all the sites with a calm, quieter, less "touristy" evening. Liked menu variety, atmosphere (not formal, but less casual than other SF spots), attitude of ALL staff (chef voluntarily came into dining room to check on guests). Live acoustic guitar was nice touch (a tad loud, but we were seated close-by). Food was ample, excellent, and realistically priced; staff was friendly, helpful without being intrusive; option for table-side prep for many items was a well-done treat. Staff seemed genuinely interested in providing an all-around pleasant experience. Only improvement would be an additional vegetarian item for menu (there was only one such choice available). "

  • "The food at Dinner for Two (and you can always be a party of more than two!) is consistently good quality, portions are not too big, prices are moderate, service is attentive but not overwhelming. Interesting choices always (including vegetarian/vegan). 3 rooms each have their own ambiance, with a room great for larger groups. "

  • "Disapointed. The menu has changed not for the better. The waiter gave us a lecture on fried foods which was not neccessary. We won't be back."

  • "My boyfriend and I went here for dinner on a Friday night. Booking a reservation online was easy. The service was excellent and the food was delicious and unique; the overall experience was very special. I am convinced after enjoying the delicious freshly baked bread, a crab cake appetizer, a vegetarian bean entree and trying three different desserts (house-made gelato, chocolate fudge cake and the incredible 'coffee and donuts') that everything on this menu must be to-die-for. Gratitude to the chef and wait staff for such a memorable experience. "

  • "We love Dinner for Two. Recently they had a number of very nice wines on their "Pocket List" of wines with special pricing. We enjoyed a pinot gris from Washington state. At a second visit, on May 11 we hoped to enjoy it again, but were very disappointed when the waitress returned after taking our order to tell us it was sold out, as were two other wines we wished to try. Apparently the Mother's Day crowd depleted their cellars. This could be an unusual situation... we hope they are able to replenish the pinot gris. Dinner for Two has outstanding cuisine, friendly staff/chefs and a dedication to local suppliers and innovative menus. It is always a pleasure to be welcomed to dine there. "
