Diner Reviews
  • "Our table for 5 was reserved and the food and service was great. It is a little noisy and there were some spirited discussions going on at the bar. Weather was great so the giant folding door to the street was open. Exceeded my expectations."

  • "Wonderful food and service. The food tastes great. Not too expensive."

  • "This is a neighborhood Mexican place, no better, no worse. Best thing about it is $5 happy hour drinks, including frozen margaritas, and good, freshly-made guacamole. Waiters were friendly and accommodating but overworked."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed the food. It was fresh and the portions were perfect. However, there was no spicy salsa for the tortilla chips, which is weird for a Mexican restaurant. They brought us out Tabasco sauce to mix in to it. We love Mexican and have visited many different restaurants. The ambience at Diego's didn't hit the mark, lucky the food was good. The service was just OK, there was no attempt to engage us, but but they weren't rude either. If your just interested in good Mexican food and don't care about the experience, then we would recommend this place."

  • "Food and service were great. Frozen margs were to die for. Good for groups or a date. Will return."

  • "The food was really good and they had an abundant list of vegetarian options. Instead of going without, every option included chicken, beef, or a great combo of spinach and mushrooms. The vegetables were also really fresh. The guacamole could have been spicier but overall a good experience and we will be back."

  • "Came here for a group lunch with about 20 colleagues. Our table was immediately ready upon our arrival. Food was good as was the service."

  • "Food is consistently good. Service is consistently great. Sometimes it gets a bit loud but not always. I've been about five times and twice it was too noisy (mostly noise from other diners not music/television). Overall a great restaurant."

  • "I was pleasantly surprised by Diego's. I needed to find somewhere at relatively short notice for a group of 9 people. Diego's had availability, but I had not heard of it before so was a tiny bit wary. I was very pleasantly surprised. The food was outstanding as well as very attentive service. There was a good vibrant ambiance (although maybe a bit too loud). Overall I was very satisfied with the experience. "

  • "As Californians we needed a Mexican food fix while in NYC this week and Diego's was great. I was especially impressed by the portion sizes and flavor of the food, which made this a great value for the $ in NYC. Would definitely come here again. "

  • "I was having a birthday Party for one of my friends and i invited 17 people. The place was accommodating. Especially since it was Easter weekend and everyone was out and about having dinner. Making the reservation through open table was very easy. Everyone loved the food and the atmosphere of the place. The only problem there was no sign out front with the name of the place, so people kept call me to ask me were it was. I also brought a cake and they don't tell you that they charge you 3 dollars per-person for your own cake....until the check comes. Other than that it was a really nice place"

  • "We needed a place that could seat 6 for pre-theatre and appeal to the non-foodies and 13-year olds in our grouop. This restaurant fit the bill. I'm a mole snob, and the taste of this one dish is how I judge a Mexican restaurant. I'd give this one an average. Their nachos were poor value, not enough chips on the plate, especially for sharing with more than a couple of additional people. Everyone came out full, though, and we made it to the theatre on time. We were done eating way too early for the theatre, but they kindly didn't rush us out...then again there didn't seem to be anyone waiting for tables."

  • "Awesome Mexican food. Loved the spicy guacamole. Age range of group 21 to 79 and everyone raved about their selection."

  • "We had a party of 7 with plans to head to a show after dinner. Our table was waiting on us, service was friendly and prompt and the food was excellent. NYC prices of course, but for the theater district it was well worth it. They had $5 happy hour drink specials. The guacamole was $12 but was a really big portion. 3 nice sized mole chicken enchiladas were $17. Mid size space, nicely, not overly theme decorated. Good lively music playing, not overly loud and we could converse from one end of table to the other. We had some kids with us (4, 11, 12) and they were well taken care of too, in a friendly family way, that made you feel welcome and not like you were imposing on the staff. It will be our go to Mex place pre show again!"

  • "Met a number of friends here for dinner and happy hour on a Saturday night! The food was good and the prices were reasonable. Even better was the Happy Hour option! House margaritas for $5 is not bad at all. :) We stayed for a while and were not rushed out at all -- that was a nice surprise as my friends and I caught up on life here.... Definitely would recommend!"

  • "I was very pleased with my experience at Diego's. I had a group of 10 people to celebrate my birthday. We arrived in plenty of time to take part in the $5 Happy Hour specials (margaritas, sangria, etc.) and following had dinner. Some of our party arrived over a half hour early and we were still seated immediately. They kept bottomless chips & salsa coming with our appetizers until the full group arrived. Everyone was satisfied with their food and drinks. We averaged $20-$40 a person depending on how many drinks were consumed. The only downside was the service was a bit slow - but for the reasonable price, we never felt rushed, and delicious food it really wasn't a big deal."

  • "My sister and I went to Diego's before going to see a show on Broadway. It was much better than we had anticipated and we left full and satisfied. The guacamole was delicious - the small side is the perfect amount for 2 rather than the appetizer size. I got the chicken chimichanga and she got a burrito and we were both pleased. Great and fast restaurant for a pre-show meal."

  • "The noise was so loud and the waiter dupped us into getting avocado with our chips...they made it seem free only to show us paying over $10 for it with the bill...not pleased. "

  • "Looking for dinner before a play and found Diego's on Opentables rated 4 stars and $$. Went with wife and 2 older kids (mid 20's). Never had better chips and salsa . They should bottle up the salsa and sell it, and I've tried lot's of salsa's before. Sat at bar before dinner. Bartender was really friendly and not overbearing. jalapeno marguerite was excellent. Dinner was top notch. Tasty but did not have the heaviness you normally get with Mexican good. Everyone enjoyed their meals. It was not a high end extraordinarily polished/high end, so gave it 4 stars overall. That's ok. This place is a must try."

  • "Not the nicest looking place, but price was very fair and food portions were great. Spicy guac was excellent. Great for vegetarian options and beans/rice are vegetarian. Standard mexican but just great quality."

  • "Great food at reasonable prices. Drinks are not watered down at all. Very stiff. Had the chicken tacos and they were very good. Easy walk from our hotel. Highly recommended. Our table was ready as soon as we walked in."

  • "My girlfriend and I came here on December 20th and it was amazing. The service was outstanding and the workers were so nice. The food was unbelievable and i would recommend this restaurant to anyone I know and we would are definitely will be going back again in the future."

  • "the food was delicious but the drink service was slow on account of there only being one person mixing drinks for the whole, crowded restaurant."

  • "Just your standard Mexican Grill. Quite pricey for what it was and the happy hour was long but the drinks were so so."

  • "This is an outstanding restaurant. I've been there a few times and have ordered from them occasionally. Everything is great. Only criticism I have is that the specialty tequila drinks, while delicious, come with a lot of ice. For each frozen margarita a friend drank, I had two specialty drinks. Other than that, it's great!"

  • "We had a Saturday night reservation for 4 people, ran 30 minutes late on our table. Gave a us a wrong estimate of a wait time as well. Placed us near the back/kitchen which we thought would be a quiet spot but was quite the opposite. Didn't make up for our table being late. The food was good but nothing spectacular. You can definitely find better food and better service for the price. Oh yeah and to top off everything their frozen marg machine was out..."

  • "I've gone to this restaurant a number of times over the years (it used to be called Ta Cocina). The food is decent, and what you would expect from a basic Mexican restaurant. The drinks are small and/or watery. But the service is terrible. Every time I go (which is every year or two), I promise to myself that I won't go back. Once, they "lost" my credit card between the machine and our table--seriously. Tonight, we waited for 10 minutes before even getting water, much less the chance to order a cocktail. Think I'll do a better job of remembering not to go back."

  • "I celebrated my birthday here and it was awesome and intimate. The food was good spicier then what I expected. Most people took a doggy bag home which means portion was good or they werent that hungry. I was disappointed with the fried ice cream that I ordered..It just wasn't as together as i would have liked. HOWEVER i did get to taste the tres leche cake and it was amazing!!! The tres leche cake by nature is very sweet but this one was sweet enough to satisfy the sweet tooth and not give you a tooth ache!! I wish i would have ordered that instead of the fried ice cream"

  • "Food was passable, but nothing to write home about, however the Margaritas were terrible. The one on the rocks was watered down, the frozen one was simply bad. Wouldn't go back there again"

  • "Went with my family on a whim and was so pleasantly surprised. Service from Greeter to Busboys were amazing and attentive. Food was amazing. The drinks were good although I thought they were a little light on the alcohol. I had three and it felt like I only drank one. The regular margarita was great though and filling. Food was excellent. Will go again."

  • "I work close by and heard good things about Diego's from a co-worker so decided to drop in after work. The margaritas are fantastic and their happy hour prices are very affordable. Service was quick and attentive. Food was on par with prices. If you are looking for good Mexican at a decent price this is your place."

  • "While it isn't an amazing location, the owners/operators have excelled at making the space feel comfortable and upscale. I ordered a delicious sangria and vegetarian enchiladas. The food had kick to it! If you're a fan of Mexican food, I'd definitely check this place out. The overall experience was excellent."

  • "Restaurant was difficult to find since the name of restaurant changed to Diegos . There was no sign for either establishment so we called from the corner of 49th and 9th to find location. Other than that it was great!"

  • "Menu offered a multiple amount of excellent choices. I had a chicken and my husband had steak. Both were well prepared and very tasty. The guacamole and salsa were excellent. The service was top notch. We will certainly return."
