We made reservations here at the recommendation of a friend who took their kids there. We were disappointed with several things...1. The food was marginal at best. The ribs I had in the chicken/rib combo were terrible. Very small portion and they were very dry. The chicken was good and a nice size serving. My kids meals were also...disappointing as well.2. The service was slow even though the restuarant at the time was only about 30-40% full.3. We were expecting a lot more "banter" and fun with the waiter. The table next to us appeared to be having a lot more fun than we were.4. The appetizer (crab cakes) was very small..we were told it was something we could all "share" hardly!..more like a small snack for one person.

We were very excited to go to this restaurant. I had been to one before and had planned this reservation actually for drinks, appetizers, and entertainment. Our waiter was not very attentive, seemed to not put much energy into the service, etc. His significant other (I am assuming from the public display of affection witnessed) stopped by and he seemed to be more into this person than his customers. We left dissatisfied.

I went with my kids ages 13 & 14. It was a little early around 6 pm, kind of quiet. My 13 yr old had a great time, as he was the only one being insulted. I was good with that thank you. They have a small menu, but very good food. Although I do have 1 complaint. The 1/2 lb king crab add on for $8.99 isn't worth it. The king crab was the same size as small snow crab. We didn't even eat it, because of all the cartilage and work. Larger groups came in, felt like we were left out towards the end of our stay. Now I can say I've been there. Will I go back? Eh maybe...

Place was large & open. Great outdoor seating overlooking the river. Food was good. Ribs were very good, nachos were too. Chicken fingers were dry, shrimp was good. Waiter was great, made the night for my daughter as she had much fun battering back & forth, it was her 15th. B-day & she said it made her bday! Ahe brought 5 other 14 & 15 year olds & they all really had a great time!

  • I visited the Dicks Last Resort

    Dined on 8/21/2010
I visited the Dicks Last Resort in Chicago. I had not been to one in about 6 years, and was looking forward to the role playing by the staff. Overall my experience was disappointing. I knew Dicks was not a 5 star restaurant by any means, but was surprised to see the layout so typical, as any other restaurant down the street. The staff also failed to meet my expectations; not only were they 'not rude-kinda funny' they broke character several times. Overall, I was not impressed with the experience. If you are looking to just have dinner or lunch, then I wouldn't count it out; just don't go there thinking your going to leave with a sore stomach from laughing so hard.

We took our 12 year old son and 9 year old daughter and felt the jokes and atmosphere to be a bit mature for them... It was a slow night (Monday), so the atmoshpere wasn't all that fun, although I'm sure it would be on a busy night with an adult group of friends. The food was just average, and probably would have been rated better had the prices not been so steep. Overall, an okay experience.. not horrible, just not right for our group on that evening.

Food was disappointing; awful mojito (I swear there was no alcohol in there and I had two), and was told once seated outside that the outside area does not get the ribbing and playfulness, insults, etc. from the wait staff that happens inside. Well, that's what I went there for. And then to get less than tasteful food was a big disappointment.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2010
    Dined on 7/24/2010
I was EXTREMELY disappointed with our waitress's lack of enthusiasm. We had a group of 20 in from STL and she did not do anything fun with our group. She was good as far as getting our drinks and orders correct but we received no bibs, and not one person in our group got a hat or anything. That is the whole point in coming to this restaurant. A few of us had been there the year prior and had such a great time laughing at the comments on the hats on our group and the group around us. She did nothing. She also told us that she could not split our bills and we asked her first thing. We made a complaint to management but nothing was taken seriously in my opinion. It was a huge let down.

Nice view of the river from the outdoor patio- but be careful, the tables in the sun get hot! Food was decent bar fare- though the crab ball appetizer was a little too spicy, the buffalo chicken sandwich was quite good. We came in after the Hawks rally and found that many fellow fans had the same idea. There was also a benefit going on. We waited a really long time for a table even though I made reservations. Turned out the host was not keeping track very well. The server turned out to be really nice, but the wait for the food was extremely long for a couple of sandwiches and some fried shrimp. I liked the old location better. I also liked the overall fun, crazy, and playful atmosphere of the old location. This experience was not any of the above. Two waiters, a girl and a guy. She, did not know how to deal with a large rowdy crowd, I would think this would be a prerequisite for working here. He, was downright rude to us, this is not playful. We were encouraged to take balled up napkins and throw them at each other, and the natural tendency is to try to make "baskets" into each other's beer glasses, but if the ball gets wet we aren't allowed to throw it, come on be realistic, and if a ball should accidentally hit a wandering waiter, you are breaking the rules and screamed at! Rules??? This place is loaded with contradiction.

After hearing my teen daughter rave about her experience at Dave's in San Antonio, my husband and I thought it would be cool to venture up to the closest one to us for dinner at the one in Chicago. We went on May 15, 2010. While we expected "rudeness", it was the lack of interaction that disappointed us. When it occurred, we enjoyed it, but we felt we were at a table in the corner and not apart of the environment like we had hoped to be. Overall, it was neat to see, but we would have like to see a little more of our server. She was good when she was around.
