Dick & Jenny'sworth the tripThis New Southern gem is a little out of the tourist area but we'll worth a visit. Great drinks and Southern classics.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed! After a long day of travel to New Orleans, my husband and I really enjoyed D & J. The food was good and the service was impeccable. Definitely recommending to our friends.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMA little gemWas in town on business, and local co-workers recommended this place away from the FQ. Nestled in an old house in the uptown district, the ambiance was perfect and the food terrific. The server was helpful in recommending items they are known for and they did NOT disappoint. The Duck Confit with Alligator Sausage was amazing, and don't miss the fried green tomatoes with shrimp remoulade.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was our 1st time & it wasIt was our 1st time & it was TERRIFIC. This made a special trip even more special. We will definately be back the next time we are in New Orleans.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMMost wonderful service and foodThe impeccable service combined with lovely food made dining at Dick and Jenny's a real treat. The seafood bouillabaisse is fantastic, and the short ribs are juicy and practically fall off the bone. Our server was genuine and treated us to the history of the restaurant. One of the best restaurant experiences I have had in New Orleans, hands down!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMparent of Tulane studentWe loved this restaurant. It is away from the congested French quarter with fabulous food, wonderful service and amazimg ambiance. Will return!!!!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the TrekNew Orleans is known for its good, of course; it's hard to find a bad meal and easy to find a great one. Dick and Sally's is a great one. Fresh fish, tender short ribs, smoky gumbo are standards elevated to a new level here. Service was efficient and friendly; I felt like I was a guest in their home. The portions are huge, incongruous with the high quality of the food. And it was unbearably loud in the front room, while the back room was quiet and relaxed. One of the best meals I've had in New Orleans!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat New Orleans restaurantGreat New Orleans restaurant for any occasions. Friendly and great service, good food, overall great experience.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat comfort foodDelicious, wonderfully savory comfort food. Great service too.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFun!We attended dinner on Saturday eve for a mother's day celebration with 4 altogether. While we waited for 10 min for a table, the staff was friendly and prompt. Our waiter was a bit busy but very friendly and knowledgeable about our gluten intolerance. We very much enjoyed our delicious food and lively atmosphere. Highly recommended.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Food Ever!Everything was truly amazing. The escargot was to die for! The cucumber soup was refreshing. And the duck confet was just incredible!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBest gumbo I had in the twoBest gumbo I had in the two weeks in New Orleans. Delicious fish with a curry sauce. Perfect size portions. Definitely on my list for return visits.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMone of the best in the cityGreat restaurant and while a bit out of the way, one of the best in New Orleans. A good mix of classics and new dishes to try at every visit. Fried oysters, fresh fish served in inventive ways plus meat for the carnivores. We actually had a vegan in our party and the chef couldn't have been nicer.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFROGLEGS!FROGLEGS! Everything was good, but this was tops. If they are in season, get them. They were something special and one of the best tasting things we have eaten anywhere.
We also had the sweetbreads and these were the most flavorful of the three sweatbreads we ordered during our trip (they are cooked with a heavy batter similar to hush puppies.) They beat out Iris and Dominiques sweatbreads. The escargot were good and very garlicky as expected. A bit on the rich side for my palate.
We have eaten at most of the top eateries in the city over our 15 trips to Nola, and this was our first time at D&J. Great food and service, even during Jazzfest. Casual dress and laid back environment. We will definitely return.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMFive stars!Off the beaten path for tourists, but so worth the trip! Gorgeous food and great service - loved it!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat NOLA experienceHighly recommended. Food is outstanding. Large portions. Delicioius. Easy, relaxed environment. Attentive staff.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMSINFULLY DELICIOUS!!!I wish I lived in NOLA, so that I could dine at D&J's on a regular basis!!
The Abita braised beef short ribs were out of this world!! BUT, then I tried the dish my husband ordered.
It was a dinner special, not on the menu: green curry, coconut soft shell crab....I thought that I had died and gone to heaven.
Everything was GREAT! Food, service, background music. We had great meals while we were in town for NOJF. But, THIS one was the most memorable. THANK YOU!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe've been here before andWe've been here before and we'll be back again - great spot near Tipitina's with delicious food - save room for the pistachio layer cake!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMA Must-try!We absolutely loved our time here. The service was wonderful as our server was helpful and friendly. He explained specials to us in great detail. The food was amazing. We had the gumbo, shrimp and scallops, and the cookie sundae. The ambiance is great too with the lovely dining room and moderate noise level. I will be coming back here very soon.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThe gumbo was some of theThe gumbo was some of the best we've ever had...the atmosphere was comfortable and we had a terrific experience overall.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMwe really wanted to try thiswe really wanted to try this restaurant but it seemed that all the forces were against us in our travels to get there that night---i called them to say that we were having travel issues and they said "no problem---we don't close until 10:30 and we'll make sure we hold your table for you"---we finally arrived by 10pm and they couldn't have been any nicer---they treated us to cocktails because of all the trouble we went to in getting there and never rushed us---the server was super nice the entire time even though the whole place had pretty much emptied out---the food was absolutely delicious---the corn bread was to die for, the beef short rib was yummy and the calamari in my bouillabaisse was the most tender i have ever had4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBe sure to try the Patio Sipper,Be sure to try the Patio Sipper, a fabulous riff on a Pimm's Cup, perfect for the New Orleans climate. This is a quirky place recommended by a local. Good food, great service and a unique ambience.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMUnbelievable. I've eaten atUnbelievable. The food is absolutely delicious! The flavors are well developed and with every bite you just know that someone has taken their time creating this meal. They also have an awesome drink special menu, great service and the Corn Fried Louisiana Oysters are "to die for" a must have off of the starters menu.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe ate here with a large group. We ate here with a large group. We will absolutely come back for dinner the next time we visit New Orleans.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice but as usual I pickedVery nice but as usual I picked the wrong entree. I ordered the beef rib. It was more of a chunk of fat. Almost no meat. I have had the dish at other restaurants where the rib was either leaner or the fat was cooked off. Oysters were excellent.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentI have lived in New Orleans for five years and eaten at many of the city’s top restaurants and this may have just become my favorite. Not one person in my party had a dish that was not incredibly. Perhaps what stood out for me the most was the quality of everything the accompanied the dishes. The sides complemented the courses extremely well and were very flavorful. Excellent restaurant, good price, down to earth New Orleans atmosphere.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMit was great. server an-jellit was great. server an-jell (not sure the spelling) was awesome. she handled gluten free requirement masterfully. the only small, very minor hiccup was the escargot was presented with the bread in the center. we reminded the server that we needed gluten free and he grabbed the bread out of the dish, and looked at us like "that's fine, right?". when we balked and asked for a redo, he took it away slightly annoyed. you guys quickly made it right, but we were surprised at how he handled it. it's why the service was not rated "outstanding".3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWas so impressed that theWas so impressed that the host wished my husband a happy birthday when we walked in! They actually read the reservation notes! Food was all fresh and delicious and my 9 and 11 year old kids loved it too! Service was excellent. Overall, great experience.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways great. I had the BraisedAlways great.
