A word from Dick & Jenny's
One block uptown from the corner of Napoleon and Tchoupitoulas, where century old live oaks shadow the famous music club Tipitina's, sits a mid-nineteenth century barge board cottage with burgundy clap boards and yellow shutters. Dinner plates line the walls and bear the names of Dick and Jenny's founding customers. Originally a grocery store, and later a po-boy shop, this funky New Orleans original is a gathering place for those who seek fine dining cuisine in a casual, comfortable setting. A small hand painted sign on the building hangs above the flower baskets and simply says "Dick & Jenny's."Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We have been there many times and loved it. I had the ribeye which tasted like some cheap previously frozen cut bought from a low end supermarket. Their signature pork was awful. Very disappointing. We will not return."

  • "This is the place where locals go to celebrate. The food and service is every bit as good as any Brennan's restaurant, with a more casual atmosphere. No such thing as a bad experience at this place."

  • "Another fantastic meal. D&J never seem to disappoint."

  • "Getting away from better known tourist attractions to this local gem is a treat. The food is well executed cajun cuisine with a modern touch. The chef is responsive to individual requests and does that with a flair. A restaurant not to be missed."

  • "very disappointed. been here many times and this would be the last. living on laurels. food was served warm, not hot."

  • "What a fabulous meal! The room is quirky, the service is cheerful and responsive without hovering, and the food is outstanding. We will be back."

  • "Starting with the hot corn bread, ending with the chocolate creme' brûlée', and enjoying a great meal with good service: the key to an enjoyable spring evening outl."

  • "The appetizers were just great! So was the gumbo and fish of the day that two had as main dishes. My osso bucco was subpar and by a long shot. Too much gravy smothered the meat which was tender but not overly so -- a big disappointment."
    Dined on 3/13/2014
  • "The best cornbread and strawberry shortcake I've ever had! The lamb and white bean soup was also a welcome surprise. Our waiter made exellent recommendations from the menu and paired our wine appropriately with our orders. Service was attentive and friendly, without being annoying."

  • "This place was so much fun! They had a long list of specialty cocktails that all look delicious. I had the uptown pimms and it was the perfect spring/summer drink. I will definitely be going back again. Our server, Stephanie, was really helpful and gave great suggestions for every course. The menu changes every 3 months, so I can't wait to see what they will make next!"

  • "Wasn't bad, but wasn't great. Seemed a little tired, living on an old reputation and not moving the ball forward because of it. I was in NOLA for 2 days and wouldn't recommend it for someone looking for a memorable meal."

  • "Went for lunch with another family after visiting colleges. It was a bit off the beaten path, but a very pleasant surprise once we found it. Great atmosphere, cozy and charming, wonderful food, and friendly service. The oysters and green tomatoes were delicious, and my pasta was outstanding. Will return if I am ever back in The area."

  • "Delightful staff, comfortable atmosphere, wonderful food. This was a charming neighborhood spot that doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside it's a sparkling gem of a place. I wish I lived in the neighborhood so that I could drop in once a week."

  • "We had a reservation for 5. Two last minute additions and a call to Abe, who made it happen. And on Mardi Gras weekend, none the less. Excellent service and exceptional food made for a great night to celebrate my wife's bday. THANKS!"

  • "This place is one of my favorites. The menu has changed a little since my last visit. Some dishes here have notably dense flavors, and are not for delicate palates. Let's say the dishes tend to hearty. But I also enjoys the flavors I encounter. It's a casual place with very high-quality food. And now they take reservations! Service is always excellent."

  • "Went here after taking a jewelry-making class at The Bead Shop. We picked it for it's convenient location, but will return for the excellent food and service. Really good cocktails as well. See you on the next trip!"

  • "We joined them for Brunch and had a fantastic time with a party of 7. Food has great character and is not the same old New Orleans lunch fare. Waiter was helpful and attentive. We spent over two hours talking, eating and relaxing in a upbeat sunny atmosphere. Would recommend to others. There was mention that it had new chef and ownership but we found it as good as it ever was."

  • "Service was excellent but the food overall was disappointing (which was too bad since our first time here was very good ). The veal was overly salty, the gulf fish dry. Everything came out lukewarm. The cornbread was, however, delicious!"

  • "A bit off the beatern track but the food was outstanding. My husband and I are foodies, my daughter, very picky. They didn't have a kid menu but offered my daughter several options. Everything was wonderful."

  • "We are residents of the FQ so for us to leave our area with great resturants it has to be a special place and D&J definetly fits the bill. Wonderful service and awesome food. We will be back."

  • "Ate here today for the first time since new ownership. Atmosphere unchanged. Casual, neighborhood-like. Food is still excellent. Service was good. Satisfied that the restaurant has not lost a step with new ownership."

  • "After making a reservation for one in advance, the restaurant was determined to try to seat me at the bar which is not what I requested. Was then given a table in the back near a very drafty window and door. After my complaint was moved slightly inward. The food was good, but I was charged $ 6 for a small bottle of sparkling water which was taken away after I was given only one glass of it to drink. It's good that I didn't bring a date because overall it was a disappointing experience."

  • "First visit since new owner. Food had great taste and great presentation. Server was excellent and manager checked with our table. Receptionist was very nice and professional . My only issue was limited menu choice. I love grilled fish and that was not offered on pan seared. If they offered grilled fish I would be very happy!"

  • "We returned here on our return to NOLA and it was a delight again. The special was that--special; the waiter attentive and helpful and all was done well. The smoked salmon tray was great to share as an appetizer, the loin of pork and the pasta special had great flavor and nice presentation. And my gin and tonic was excellent--they must use decent tonic in it--unlike so many others. A unique decor, good service, excellent food--great return visit."

  • "Stacey is one of the best chefs in the highly competitive New Orleans market. The only flaw in the meal, which I am sure was not Stacey's fault, was the really awful, weak, cold coffee."

  • "This dinner was so wonderful. My boys and I had the best experience at this restaurant. The food was amazing. The service was beyond perfect. A great family dinner. We will remember this dinner for a very long time!"

  • "What a great experience! The reviews were good on several Internet sites, and it was close to where we were staying, so we thought we'd give it a try. We wanted something good because we were there for Christmas Eve and our daughter's birthday. It delivered. The steak was perfect - medium rare just as ordered, the bouillabaisse was flavorful with tender, fresh tasting mussels and seafood, and the pork chop was just as tasty. The fish was cooked perfectly, although the sauce was sweeter than I would have liked. But, it was a praline sauce, so it was supposed to be sweet. We had oysters for the appetizer. Yum. A great evening."

  • "Food was eclectic as was the building. Loved that the food tasted like it was suppose to. No heavy sauces, to camouflage the food flavors. The flounder was perfect, loved the pecan risotto and arugula. I love nuts in my desserts wish the bread pudding had pecans. Overall PERFECT, great place to start the Christmas food festival."

  • "Food was amazing, divine. But it's also pricey which makes the Owners seem a tad greedy seating 10-12 tables in a poorly heated lean-to addition to the main dining room. Chills and goosebumps should not be part of any $220 dining experience. Install decent heating, kids-- or stop taking reservations for the unheated porch."
