Día de Campo owners Chef Tin Vuong and Jed Sanford’s vision for a Mexican and seafood restaurant set in the South Bay of Los Angeles. Located in Hermosa Beach, just a block off the sand and strand, Día de Campo is a modern surf lodge, of sorts, catering to those who want to disconnect, leave the day behind and gather with friends and strangers over flavorful food and drinks. The menu has Chef Tin paying homage to the array of Mexican and Latino food he’s enjoyed growing up in LA, mostly coming out of cocinas east of the LA River, while also taking inspiration from the fish houses, oyster bars and surf shacks along the coasts of California, Mexico, Hawaii and wherever the Pacific meets the sand.Continued

  • "Our meal was not all that special but it was quite expensive. We were seated immediately by a very attentive hostess but it took quite a long time for us to be seen by our waiter or for any water to be offered. After that the service was very good. I probably won't be going back very soon if at all. The appetizers were good (a flat bread and one other I can't recall. The taquitos were just so, so) and the main course (a chicken dish for 2- 3 people) was a big disappointment."

  • "I met a friend for drinks and shared small plates during happy hour on a Wednesday night. The happy hour margarita was very good, and the house Chardonnay was nice.The Brussels sprouts nachos were amazing. I had a small carnitas taco that was excellent. The taquitos were kind of blah. We got there at 5 when it opened. By the time we left, the restaurant was full. I would suggest a reservation for dinner. Fun place--and a very interesting menu. Next time I'll try the oysters but my friend was not an oyster fan."

  • "This was my second time at this restaurant, great experience again. Fast service, with knowledgable staff. Great drinks! I am a fan of spicy margaritas, and the one they have here is delish. The food is wonderful, tapas-style for sharing with the table. Definitely recommend the corn and taquitos! Chips and salsa/guacamole are a perfect starter."

  • "Not impressed... the chef is too arrogant to accept modifications to the food. They wouldn't even slice my corn off the cob. For a place that snooty about their food, you would expect it to at least be half decent. It was highly priced with very little return. 2 of my dishes were not even edible. Definitely would not go back."

  • "DDC was great. First impression when you walk in and see the red patent leather chairs is that it’s kind of fancy. However, it’s a nice mix of fancy, quaint and comfortable. The hostess and server both recommended the short rib empanada so we started with that and were glad we did. Followed it up with red braised lamb taco, crispy shrimp taco and duck quesadilla. All delicious. Loved it and looking forward to going back."

  • "We went with foodie friends from out of town and had a phenomenal meal! We all love raw seafood and Mexican food-this place brings these 2 favorites together in an amazing way! We did spend a fortune, mostly because we wanted to try everything! But, they did have many options at various price points, including dine LA specialty tasting menus. We'd highly recommend this to those who love good raw oysters and amazing Mexican Seafood fare!"

  • "Cool atmosphere and there are good mid-week specials. Disappointed that small plates like 'ceviche' were very over-priced and not very good. Generally, too pricey and trying a little too hard to add strange ingredients to make the food look unique - which doesn't make it good. Oysters were delicious and the cocktails are strong. I'll go back for the Oyster specials and have a drink! :)"

  • "The Food at Dia Del Campo is truly INSPIRED. The drinks were just ok, some marginal. But literally, the food was so good, it didn't matter. Their Pupusa was literally one of the best dishes I've ever eaten, same with their chimichanga. That's saying a whole lot, considering its latin inspired food."

  • "We had a great meal. The Guacamole with the Lump Crab meat added in was amazing. We also really loved the yellowtail ceviche. The short rib empanada was delicious. This is an especially loud restaurant. Honestly it was difficult to carry on a conversation without shouting across the table. This was a Saturday night so it might be quieter on week days. The service was very good, our waitress was very attentive and friendly. It's great to be down in Hermosa Beach for taking a nice walk after eating."

  • "I live in Hermosa so plenty of feel for the area and the food offerings in the South Bay. It's a very cool place inside with moderate noise levels. Everybody from top to bottom was nice and we got great service, including a follow-up call the next day to thank us for dining with them. The issue might be that it's just another of the many of Tapas style restaurants that have opened in the South Bay. All very expensive for what you get, both drinks and food, but that's the current trend. Don't come hungry and you'll enjoy the appetizer style dining. It does cater to a higher clientele, which helps out the Hermosa Pier area."

  • "Great food, particularly the fish dishes. Whole fish for two is great deal ($38) and delicious. Hermosa is in serious need of upscale dining, and this place definitely fits the bill. My only complaint: the noise. Music cranked up to deafening. Impossible to have a conversation with a group. I only come here with my spouse or one friend because if the group is any larger we won't be able to hear each other. Even with just my spouse we end up shouting at each other across the table to just be heard."

  • "Pros: Food was interesting, inventive, and well-thought out. Decor hits the modern rustic vibe--though there was not much to absorb the noise. Cons: Service seemed undefined. Was our server the manager? What appeared to be a waiter? The hostess? We were asked by three different people if we had been helped or if we wanted a drink. Finally, it seemed that we had a specific waiter about half way through our meal. Then--a rookie move. While we were eating he put the check on the table. This was "diner" service we thought at such a cool looking place. He never asked if we wanted to try another dish (I guess we were finished), if we wanted another cocktail (short pours, by the way), or dessert--just got the check. We went elsewhere for dessert."

  • "service was not very good. Waiter and waitress kept switching so we never knew who was doing what. Drinks took forever, then one waiter came back and said they didn't have the ingredients for one of the drinks. Food came haphazardly. We ordered a ton and I asked for everything to be boxed up to go and when I got home (I should have checked there), about 1/2 of the food was packaged. Irritating. The noise level was ridiculous. I watched my friends lips move from across the table. Restaurant needs to decide if it wants to service the frat boy Hermosa Beach crowd or a more reserved, relaxed food crowd. Can't do both. "

  • "Guac, cauliflower, tuna, was good. Portions are way to small. Scallop dish was $16 for 3 tiny scallops and stingy on the the corn tortillas/plantains. I would recommend making the portions a little bit bigger."

  • "Been here twice now and the food is truly yum! The staff are lovely -- although they don't know how to pronounce Coromandel -- as am from New Zealand I felt the need to correct them ;-)). Am very fond of the spicy margaritas. The only thing to bear in mind is that it's pretty loud. Whether the acoustics or just the fact that there was a gentleman with an amp and a guitar singing away, you'll need to shout to your dining companions."

  • "We got there at 12; we had a reservation, but the food took forever. We just got up and left. Manager said sorry like 10 times and that our food was on it`s way, and then brought more guacamole and chips to cheer us up and we just told him 2 take it back. Then, he came back and said that the chimichangas were going to take 10-20min more. Forget it! We were out of there in a heartbeat! Their servings are small. Our waiter told me that everything was already prepared, so I have NO CLUE why it took more than an hour to bring us our food. They have ZERO options for Food Allergies. Waiter said that chicken, beef, corn chips and tortillas all had soy and that the rice had butter. Disaster. We drove from North Hollywood just for Dia de Campo. "

  • "Great food, happy hour is little expensive but really terrific. We had 5 people and enjoyed sampling lots of different tastes. One warning is the hot sauce they make is really hot, and be careful when you open the bottle, the contents on our bottle exploded out of the bottle and got on one of our friend's nice sweater (manager was terrific, offered to pay for dry cleaning and gave his card to our friend.) Service is really good and management staff is great."

  • "Restaurant was not busy on a Sunday night of a beautiful summer. When they first opened, the food was amazing! Since then prices have crept up, portions are smaller and great dishes that used to be on the happy hour menu were replaced with cheaper ones. Guacamole and chips - too heavy a hand on the paprika salt! 4 of our 7 dishes were topped with pickled onions and pickled purple cabbage - the flavors should be amazing, different, and stand on their own not with the same condiments on top! The cocktails small - a $12and about 4 sips. Tacos - $4 for a teeny tiny thing - nothing special. Lamb nachos were left behind - they used to be my favorite dish. The duck quesadillas - hardly any duck - no flavor at all - they too were left."

  • "Appetizers are served in 3s to push ordering two plates rather than allowing a foursome to add another piece with an upcharge. Sunset is hard in part of the restaurant because there is no blind on the West side. Too many hard surfaces make the restaurant really noisy. It should be noted that the place is brand new so the kinks are still getting worked out. Having said that, the food is amazing! Great place for two couples to meet and have a blast. Most of you can please stay away so the place does not get too packed and we can get seats when we want."

  • "Tried this for the first time with a friend and we were really really pleased. They haven't held back on providing a great experience. The tapas were great; 4 plates filled the two of us up perfectly. The passion over function cocktail- cheapest on the menu- is actually surprisingly great; a sweet drink with a kick of pepper making it pleasantly smoky. The decor is indulgently contemporary, all the way to the bathrooms. All in all everything was a pleasant surprise of high quality and execution, making it one of Hermosa's best places."
