Excellent Indian food and service
at a reasonable price. Try cauliflower app and chile chicken. Space is crowded and noisey."

Required phone flashlight to view
menu. Inattentive service. Had to ask to be served first cocktail."
Dined on 2/20/2014
When your waiter has to bring you
a flashlight so you can read the menu, it's too dark. We also had to scream to hear each other. The food was good, the cosmos only passable. We ate here exactly one year ago and the place has lost something."
Dined on 2/7/2014
One of the best curries in
Manhattan. Unfortunately, too noisy."

I have personally made this Indian
restaurant my favorite in the NYC area whenever I visit. It is my absolute go-to! Each dish that I have had is full of favor- the aroma of the food is beautiful and the presentation is great. Service is always timely and with a willingness to meet customer's needs. I would definitely recommend this spot to others!"

Excellent food and service -
highly recommend the malai kofta (my fav Indian dish of the moment). The ambience however was a slightly difficult to contend with: restaurant was so dimly lit that I could barely read the menu, and as the night progressed the music got louder and louder. Highly recommend you go with people you know well (and don't mind yelling at to hear); probably not the greatest for a first date or other situation when you want to hear the person you're eating with :)"

Our first visit to Dhaba. Arrived
at 9 to find the place jammed and very lively (no surprise) and our table ready (yay, as it was the only open table in the restaurant). Crowd lessened fairly steadily from then. When we left a bit after 11, we were two of very few folks left. No matter. Service was very good when the place was jammed and when it was nearly empty: fast even when jammed, and gracious even when they must have been anxious to be rid of us. Food was uniformly very good, reasonably inventive. Portions are larger than they look, so be careful. The tables are close together, not offensively so but resulting in lots of noise when the place is full. Lighting is very dim: one needs a flashlight to look at the menu."

I went to Dhaba on a Sunday
afternoon for a friend's birthday. They offer the buffet at this time which is great because you can try many different options. The food was excellent and had a ton of flavor. They also bring naan and chick tandoori to the table. The service was pretty good but I didn't order anything extra and just drank water. Will definitely be back!"
Dined on 1/12/2014
After eating at Dhaba the first
time, I could not wait to get there again. The ambiance is mediocre at best, and the place is usually packed to the brim on a weekend night, but the food more than makes up for it. Simply delicious."

After reading hundreds of reviews
for indian restaurants i just picked Dhaba because i read a review that said it had the best chicken tikka masala. Sold (for me). Atmosphere is loud and busy but fun. Chicken tikka masala really was delish! As was everything else we ordered: samosas naan chicken korma and jack and gingers ;). Super fast delivery of foods ( we were rushing to catch a show ) but if we had time to stay wouldn't have felt rushed at all. I would most definitely return and recommend!!"

Love Dhaba. Totally consistent for
years, my go to spot in Curry Hill. Real heat when you want it and yummy flavors. Always look forward to coming here. Just did a group of 8 and they did a great job."
Dined on 12/28/2013
Poor service and un-amazing indian
food. Lots of other options that are less expensive and better on the same block."
Dined on 12/25/2013
Took my girlfriend out for dinner
here, she loved the food and the ambience. The slow Bollywood music was decent, it set the mood just right. Overall nice place, I was happy that she was happy. Would like to come back here for sure."
Dined on 12/7/2013
Eaten at Dhaba many times for
dinner, where I mostly eat from the front of the menu - the little goodies. The lunch buffet was terrific yesterday with 5 people - 3 of whom had never been there. We all loved it. The buffet is terrific, great bread and other appetizers brought to the table. One of my fav restaurants in NYC."
Dined on 12/9/2013
Good food--but much too loud.
Great if you like Techno Bollywood Hip Hop. Not relaxing. Next time, i'll order in."
Dined on 12/7/2013
this place was packed and the
service was perfect. water was refilled constantly, food was out extremely fast. the best indian food i have had so far in NYC. we will be back."
Dined on 11/16/2013
The waiter was very helpful in
letting us know not to order more than 3 dishes for dinner as it would be too much for the 2 of us. The food was excellent. The only thing we didn't particularly like was how close the tables were to each other. Aside from that the service and food were very good and we'd recommend the place to anyone who likes Indian cuisine."

I love the food at Dhaba, however,
service had always been subpar and dissapointing. I went there for my bday dinner with my family, but i was a bit nervous about the service. I was pleasantly surprised. Despite been packed, our server took care of us with utmost professionalism and courtesy. Since it was my birthday, my mom had picked up some cake from outside and I was expecting the restaurant to make a fuss about bringing desert from outside, instead they provided us with plates and cutlery and even lit the candle! I felt guilty for holding up the table since there were plenty of people waiting outside, but they didn't rush us, and patiently waited till we left. Thanks you for the great food and pleasant experience."
Dined on 10/19/2013
the lunch buffet was very good,
with lots of vegan choices."
Dined on 10/21/2013
Had reservations at 6:30pm for 2.
When we arrived about half the tables were occupied. By a little past 7 the place was filled with people waiting for tables. We were asked 3 times by the wait staff whether we were finished eating and they came by several times to see whether we finished eating. They were polite when asking and I understood that there were people waiting but my friend had not finished eating yet and after several times of this we just felt rushed."
Dined on 10/27/2013
The restaurant was packed on a
Sunday night, unlike many of the surrounding restaurants, which says something in itself. We had reserved a table but still had to wait for 10 minutes for one to clear. There is a high turnover of tables but the staff are friendly and efficient so it works well. There is a good range of dishes and they are good standard. The food was delivered quickly but we never felt pressured to eat quickly. We were very satisfied."

This is one of the best Indian
restaurants I've been to. Great service, great tasty right amount of spice food. Definitely adding Dhaba to my list when I miss Indian food from home!"
Dined on 10/20/2013
I have been there before and the
food is still great. I just dont know what happened from the last time i was there a year ago. The lighting is horrible its dark all the time and the service was good but I didnt like the fact that i felt i was being rushed to finish. Also the water and drinks were hot. I love the food but for the other reasons i would not go back."
Dined on 10/5/2013
The food taste was good, fresh,
nothing stale or spoiled except they are missing the authentic spirit by serving the entrees without rice or naan. All the Indian people I talk to would give that the side eye. Every thing came in a serving bowl that was 3 inches deep and 3 inches wide so small indeed. There was nothing completely like some dread or chutney before dinner. I still liked what Kate cause I was staving but next time I will explore were can get more more food for my hard earned money or make it myself for less."
Dined on 10/6/2013
The food was delicious, the
service friendly, but a little slow. My only real complaint is that it is extremely loud."
Dined on 9/26/2013
One of the worst Indian lunch
buffets I've ever had. Won't be back here for sure, particularly given the amount of choices all around it."
Dined on 8/13/2013
This place is located in the heart
of curry hill but it might as well be standing alone. The food here is amazing and the options are endless. Prices are reasonable. This was not our first time here and definitely wont be the last."
Dined on 9/22/2013
Used to go when it first opened
and the food and service were so fantastic. Not true any longer. Maybe they changed chefs. I know they changed managers on property. Too bad for us. Will not go back. Too many other places to go to."
Dined on 9/8/2013
The food was really very good and
the portions were large. The staff was very friendly and the service was good. The restaurant is very noisy and small and the light is very dim. It is hard to read the menu in evening time. We ordered Aloo Tikki chat and Tangri (drumstick) kababs which were excellent. So was our main course Lamb Roganjosh, Jhinga (shrimp) keem and butter chicken. Will definitely go to Dhaba again when we go back to NYC!"

After just moving back from the UK
after 7 years we've struggled to find a good Indian restaurant in the city after having so much choice. Darbar's food is fantastic. Our party of 4 really enjoyed each dish and the portions were large. The restaurant is pretty small and narrow and because there was a large party right next to us it was pretty loud. Also, the air conditioning wasn't working properly and on one of the hottest days of the year it was difficult to want to linger over dinner, particularly a hot curry! But because the food was so good, we'll definitely go back again!"
Dined on 7/7/2013
I have only been here for the
lunch buffet, but it is the best in the area."
Dined on 5/12/2013
Don't worry, if you don't want to
be bothered by your waiter...you won't be. In fact, you won't even be able to find him! Oh and you want rice with your meal? Good, it's $15 for a small bowl...not worth it!"
Dined on 7/1/2013
We had a great meal at Dhaba. We
had to wait for our table but they gave us a complimentary appetizer and once we were seated the food came quickly. Would recommend for those wanting authentic Indian in a vibrant setting."
Dined on 6/22/2013
Food was spicy as advertised, and
we enjoyed our dinner immensely. A good value."
Dined on 6/16/2013
This was the second visit to Dhaba
and it did not disappoint, food was great, portion size was perfect and price was very reasonable. What made our meal special was the service, as our host Parimal spent time making sure our experience was as we expected which to us was above and beyond and without being around too often."
Dined on 6/10/2013
In town visiting family and needed
a good dinner spot that didn't break the bank. Dhaba was the perfect fit. Casual with great food. Service was prompt and we weren't rushed out afterwards. It was great to hang after the meal which became a wonderful family moment. Highly recommended spot in 'Curry Hill'."
Dined on 5/5/2013
This was our first time to Dhaba.
The food was really good and plentiful. Service was quite good. The music was way too loud and made it hard for us to talk. On a Saturday night, the place was packed and there was a line so coupled with the very loud music, this was the only negative ie too noisy."
Dined on 5/4/2013
Been here for the lunch buffet and
regular dinner service. Definitely one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the area. Would recommend going for dinner so you can get more options (including the fried okra)"
Dined on 4/8/2013
I love the food and staff but the
noisiness took away from the ambiance and romantic scenery of the restaurant. If I go back it would have to be on a weekday night to see if it is more quiet!"
Dined on 4/12/2013
I've been going to Dhaba for years
and it has had it's ups and downs - it's definitely on the up now and it's my default Indian place. Good options for both meat and vegetarian/vegan eaters. Lively atmosphere, decent service. Thumbs up."
