A word from Devi
Devi, signifying "goddess" in the Indian language, showcases the celebrated pan Indian cuisine in its modern avatar and was the first ever Indian restaurant to get a Michelin star in the United States. The team of Kunal Lamba (GM and Culinary Director) and Chef Dheeraj Tomar is a direct import from New Delhi just like the dining room artifacts. The restaurant is designed with wood and marble brought from India and touched with vibrant color that invites guests to experience an atmosphere both elegant and whimsical.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Devi offers an extensive cocktail menu and had a dessert menu. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere was definitely a cut above the usual Indian place. One comment is that the drinks are pricey. Kingfisher was $9 and the cocktails were $14. The food was reasonable though."

  • "Devi has amazing food, I eat a lot of indian and this place got it right. Everything I ordered was fresh and just really yummy!! (Palak Paneer, Dal makhani, and Paneer along with rice and roti) The service could be better but once you get their attention they are quick. I plan to go again and again!"

  • "We arrived at Devi on a chilly Friday night looking forward to a creative Indian meal in a beautiful, romantic setting.. The New York Times had described the food as "crazy good". That description is either outdated .. Or crazy.. Really mediocre food - lots of rules (can't hang your jacket on your chair) - way too expensive for quality. Huge disappointment. Over spiced food killing the flavor - awful ketchup flavored cauliflower appetizer - should have stopped our meal at the naan bc that's where they stopped making anything good."

  • "This place is great to go eat at, specially if you are allergic to some kinds of foods. What I mean that this restaurant recommended me an alternative food to eat since I'm allergic to onion. They made sure I didn't have no onion in my food and that may the time spend in that restaurant worth the while."

  • "Good food, even for someone who does not know much about Idian food."

  • "I am a lover of Indian food and think that most of the Indian food that I try is good. Devi, however, went above and beyond what I've tried in NYC. Each dish had something a little extra special to it and it was obvious that each dish was cooked with care. I went there for Restaraunt Week and was not at all disappointed by the menu. I started out with a stuffed pepper which was spiced perfectly! I then had an amazing Tikki Masala. It had just enough spice and felt like it had been prepared from garden fresh tomatoes. Even my mango mocktail was fabulous. I strongly recommend Devi for any Indian food lovers!"

  • "A friend and I went here for NYC restaurant week so we had the 3-course prix fix menu. The service was spectacular from the very beginning when the hostess took our coats. They have a good wine selection and some wonderful Indian themed cocktails (I had a Cumin Old Fashioned, which had cumin infused whiskey. So good!) the cocktails are definitely on the pricey side and so is the food that wasn't part of the prix fix menu. BUT the sheer amazingness of the food and service make up for it. Not to mention the beautiful and charming decor. The ONLY complaint I would have is the portions were a bit on the small side. Great restaurant!"

  • "better than most indian places...but not as good as it used to be."

  • "The decor was beautiful, vibrant colors and beautiful accessories. . The food was good the best wad the chocolate Cheesecake dessert. . The restaurant week menu had a good variety of foods but the prawn appetizer was amazing especially the crunchy salad it sat on. . The service was a little slow but none the less the food was overall a 4.. The Mumbai Margarita was very good. I would definitely return and recommend."

  • "We had lunch at Devi, a pretty looking Indian near union Square. restaurant with high ceilings and beautifully architectural designs in the walls. But it was freezing. As we waitied a very long time for the waiter to approach in the practically empty restaurant, other diners were wearing their coats. When asking about heat, the server told us there was a heater in the back, but he didn't offer to move us.. There was another one near the cashier's table, but nothing for the clients. The food was skimpy ... but tasty (tandori cornish hen, stuffed green pepper), and the desserts were strictly mediocre even for Indian fare(Chocilate cheese cake covered with canned whipped cream). We will never go there again, nor should you!"

  • "I'm not too familiar with Indian food, but we ordered about 6 things off the menu, I had a little of everything, and I came away really impressed. It's good food, although pricey, but I don't want to knock them too much on that. The service was their biggest issue. It took them 10 minutes just to get us menus! It just seemed like every time we need their service, they wouldn't show up for at least another 10-15 minutes, you can even find anyone to wave over. Even when it came time to pay, I had the cash in hand, and nobody wanted to come take it. We left the money on the table and got out of there, my patience ran out."

  • "Awesome food! Only downside was long wait. However my friend and I had a lot of catching up to do so it was fine, but do not go if one is absolutely starving because the wait time would be frustrating. Granted there was a large party in the restaurant at the same time but still wasn't too crowded. I loved everything else about the restaurant and the food was delicious and worth the wait."

  • "Good spot for indian food selection. .everything from the appetizers to main meals was delicious and favorable the spice is there but nothing that would burn your mouth or take away the taste of the food the lemon rice was great I would highly recommend"

  • "we thought devi was great! i think it would be nice if you had a small and large size mango lassi, because a small would have been just right. but the shrimp we ordered was great. and so was the butter chicken. really really tasty."

  • "The food was great but the service was a bit on the non existent side. Not only that, when our orders were put in, it took forever to come to the table."

  • "Indian food is an adventure for many of us. We went there as a family with 2 children's. Yet, we were told there will be extra charge for food sharing."

  • "I'd been to Devi years ago, and was eager to re-visit during restaurant week. Last minute, the evening became the excuse for an online first date. When I arrived, my date had commandeered what looked like the best table- a 4 top for 2, with a stunning candlelabra, in the middle of the restaurant. However, the cold breezes from the winter wind disturbed us, and quickly the waiter brought over a surely illegal but wonderful small barbeque pit full of on fire coals! Perfect! The appetizers were both scrumptious, by the main course (lamb chops) we weren't really paying attention to the food, tho I do recall the mango samosas were wonderful for dessert. I'll be back!"

  • "The food is absolutely spectacular! Wonderful for a date or any special occasion given the pricing. Whether you love indian cuisine or want to try something new this place is a must! Would recommend it to everyone!"

  • "Excellent Service, but the wait staff was a little short-handed."

  • "The food is no doubt really amazing. Their food quantities are also pretty satisfying. I have been there on two occasions once for lunch and once for dinner, it was a very good experience each time. I have tried their Masala Sea Bass, okra salad and chicken vindaloo. I love their selection of fusion cocktails I have tried mumbai margarita and one of the whisky cocktails. Both of them were amazing! I would surely visit again."

  • "There were so many good reviews online. I was expecting a better food experience. Our appetizer was horrible. My mango lassi had a bitter aftertaste. The main course was good, but not spectacular, I wouldn't recommend Devi to anyone."

  • "We have been to Devi many times and have always found the food and service good except for this last meal. Although we arrived on time for our reservation, they gave the table we requested to someone else. We were told they didn't have chamomile tea but then delivered it. Our 3 main course dishes and rice came cold and one dish seemed to be "older and warmed over." The restaurant was not that busy so I’m not sure why our meals were delivered cold. The services and the kitchen seemed to be disjointed. We are searching for a new Indian restaurant in the neighborhood."

  • "I was disappointed with the very poor selection of beers they have. Also the upper level is very tight - tables right next to each other, making a business conversation not very easy. appetizer/entree portions were small - like the Goan Shrimp brischetta and the tandoori shrimp entrée. That entrée did not have jumbo shrimps as described. Some entree portions like goat shank were good though. I chose Devi because a few months ago I had attended a wedding catered by Devi and the food was great. I routinely entertain in NYC and would count Junoon, Tulsi Tamarind and Bukhara as better options."

  • "If you enjoy high end Indian food, ypu must go to Devi. From the appetizers to the desserts, the food is not only delicious, it's fabulous. The ambience is cheerful, yet elegant. Portions are generous. We do the 3 course special, which is a true deal. Be sure to save room for dessert!"

  • "One of the 2 top Indian Restaurants in NYC. I had not been there in 2-years and after our meal I can't for the life of me understand how I have not been here in 2-years! It was simply delicious. We did the tasting menu and every course was excellent. They make Cauliflower as tasty as any vegetable could ever be! Amazing!"

  • "The okra salad was tasty, the chicken tikka masala was so tender you could cut it with a fork. Service was friendly. I would go back (this was my second time)."
    Dined on 1/26/2014
  • "Some of the food at Devi is noteworthy. Other dishes are just ordinary. The curd was excellent, but the paneer was tough. A goat dish was much too bony, though the flavor was good. The gobi manchurian was very good, thought the portion was too small. The kulfi was icey, and not recognizable by that special creamy, slightly sand-papery texture. All in all, a mixed experience. Definitely lacked the quality and consistency to merit a Michelin star."

  • "Great drinks and food- the appetizers were delectable the beet pakora that they gave us to sample was awesome. A little expensive and a slightly limited menu, but there were enough choices for a very picky eater and it was all delicious. Worth it, especially if you have an event to attend in the area."

  • "Non-veg: totally bland. Seriously, the local stalls in NYC make more tasty food Veg food: good taste but nothing unique. Taste-wise .... on par with other restaurants. However, Devi is priced ~2x as compared to other places. So, value for money equation just doesn't click. Devi has good ambience and delicious-sounding names and ingredients on the menu; however, the food leaves much to be desired!"

  • "The food was excellent -- though it would have been nice to have been warned about the super hot pepper in the eggplant dish we ordered. We were a group of six non-meat eaters and found plenty to enjoy on the menu."

  • "Informative and attentive waiter guided us through the menus with good recommendations. He then treated us to a salad on the house and even topped off our wine glass. We felt welcomed and appreciated and walked out satisfied and ready to face the sub zero cold of NYC winter night. Best dish: lamb chops. Not to be missed."

  • "Devi has a limited menu compared to some other indian restaurants, but food is excellent. We had jackfruit biryani, prune paneer kofta kaliyan, paneer / zucchini tikka, veg malai tikka and kulchas. Everything was tasty and had a distinct flavor. It's an upscale restaurant, quantity is about right... May not appeal to a value customer. Customer service was excellent, except the receptionist who had an attitude over the phone. Overall will recommend for special occasions"

  • "I arranged a small surprise party for a friend and the Devi staff (on their own initiative) decorated the table before we showed up and also provided my friend with a surprise dessert. They were lovely and the food is divine (kind of an Indian-fusion style). The restaurant is really beautiful inside too. This place is fantastic."
