DETTERA restaurant and wine bar brings sophisticated dining to downtown Ambler. Merging progressive American cuisine with wine bar chic in a beautifully restored, historic building offering upscale casual dining on an outside deck with a brick fireplace, a first floor dining level open to a curving… black granite bar with over-sized round banquettes. The second floor dining room offers a relaxed atmosphere with pillow filled banquettes, a romantic fireplace, and a beautiful view of the Ambler theater. Wine selection offers over 50 wines by the glass and more than 200 by the bottle. The menu puts a heavy focus on seasonality, sustainability, and the sourcing of locally farmed produce. DETTERA also maintains their own herb and spice garden daily. A great find for that special dining occasion or even light fare and a glass of wine after the theater. Continued

"Food and service were good as usual however the choice of entrees seems to be smaller every time we go. The past two times we have dined there, I chose two appetizers and no entree as the choices were slim. They seem to have re-focused on cheeses as a menu item."

"When you first open the menu, the food appears fru-fru (sea beans? dorode and ramp?), but to the contrary the food is delicious. The spring salad had blueberries and walnuts. The spring greens exploded with freshness. The sirloin was aged and had a delightful crust and was full of flavor. The Swiss chard and herb spaetzle complimented the sirloin perfectly. The chocolate mousse with a hazlenut anglaise, besides being a work of art, the sweetness of the mousse against the swirls of deep dark chocolate were heavenly. The topping of fresh strawberry and raspberry bursted with the flavor of summer, even though it was spring."

"Most appetizer portions work for me, a "small eater" as a main course when I add a side of a vegetable. We've eaten here several time and enjoyed the wonderful food each time."

"Great place for a nice, romantic dinner. Awesome wine selection and an amazing menu! Pricy, but for a special night out once in a while it's great! The price matches the quality of food and service so we had no problem with the cost for awesome service and amazing food! Wine selection is out of this world as well!"

"We had a great evening. We requested to sit next to the fire place, when we were greeted at the front door with our reservation the hostess said " we have a table ready for you fireside." I felt so very special. The food choices were wonderful. I would recommend the hand cut fries and cheese tasting. Just a regular night out was turned into something special with the great wait staff and tasty cocktails."

"Other than being noisy, the food, attention and service are a outstanding and a pleasure to be there. Probably one of the best in the Ambler area.
I highly recommend this restaurant. One advise: try to sit in the back of the restaurant. In this way you avoid the noise coming from the upstairs section.
Remember to try the Dorada fish. I just superb !!!"

"The food was VERY good, actually delicous! The wine and mixed drinks were great. Service was excellent. It was our first time there, so we didn't know what to expect. We knew it was more upscale than some of the other restaurants in Ambler, but were a little surprised at the prices. It was a little high for the spur-of-the-moment dinner "out" that we were on. DEFINITELY a place for a special occasion or a first date. We will definitely go again for a special occasion."

"What a fabulous experience. Attention to detail is the cornerstone of Dettera. Truly a high class and unique dining experience. From the minute you walk in the door you know you are destined for a superb dining experince. "Great meal, tasty twists on some classic favorites and some nice food surprises -the tuna tartare is amazing, the cauliflower soup was delicious. Very knowledgeable and accommodating service. We had a really nice evening."
