Diner Reviews
  • "Second time we've dined at DSM before going to Margaritaville. Excellent seafood to put you in the mood for Jimmy Buffett."

  • "We chose this restaurant based on location and previous ratings. I'm a foodie and I found that it was just mediocre. There were very few people there, so it was very quiet. We just ordered appetizers. Lobster Mac&Cheese was a glorified kraft M&C with lobster in it and it was all dried out. I don't recommend it. The Lobster corn dogs were good as well as the calamari. I can't speak for the men's restroom, but he ladies room was dirty and the floor was sticky. No excuse for dirty bathrooms especially when there was no one there."

  • "This was a wonderful experience. We were very impressed by the ambience & decor of the restaurant and our reservation was on time. The menu had so many great selections to choose from and everything we ordered was great, except the crab cakes. We had sea bass, stuffed salmon, paella, lamb chops, it was delicious. We had small children with us and there were options for them, the service was impeccable and our waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu. Our desserts were even good and we normally don't order the sweets. We had a great time and would recommend again!"

  • "I had a great dining experience. My husband & I were celebrating our 24th Wedding Anniversary. The atmosphere was very romantic. The food was very good. The entertainment was very enjoyable. Our waiter was very attentive to our needs and very friendly. This was our first time dining there, but we will definitely dine there again. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to family & friends."

  • "Service was great, the food was very good, I had the Florida Snapper with the crab meat and it was excellent. Decent wine selection as well."

  • "I made reservations here because it is 2 blocks from the Detroit Opera House, and my wife and I only had an hour and fifteen minutes to spare before a show. I told our waitress this, and we were done our meal with several minutes to spare. The oysters on the half shell was an excellent starter, and the drinks were great (Long Island ice tea and watermelon v martini). Warm buns with butter were a wonderful touch. I ordered the seafood paella for the main course and it was plentiful, well balanced, and flavorful. My wife's macadamia encrusted mahi was rather bland and overpriced for the portion. Also, she ordered the salsa on the side, but it was on top of the mahi. Overall, it was a good experience, and I would recommend it."

  • "One of my new favorite fine dining spots. The seafood is excellent! The food is HOT and DELICIOUS! The waitstaff is knowledgeable and friendly. A great night out, especially with the live music."

  • "Did not enjoy this experience. Food was way overpriced for what we received (3 courses). All members of my group agreed that we would not return. Additionally, we were asked over 4 times by the same hostess if we had checked in yet. I never left her sight near the hostess stand and the area had 1 other couple. I appreciate being asked but it definitely made us feel like we weren't notable"

  • "The service for food and drinks was terrible-- slow and incorrect. Ordered the ribeye cooked medium and it came well done, and didn't have time to correct it since it took so long to be delivered. The drink glasses are plastic?!?! Beyond tacky. Especially when you are paying $13 for a drink! The other dishes we ordered were all also overcooked and not properly priced for the quality."

  • "In your previous reviews, many diners indicated that they got their meals before they were finished with their appetizers/first course, and that happened with us. I also saw a couple of other tables experience the same. While that's not horrible, it does make you feel rushed, especially when you are trying to have a date night dinner. Also thought it was a little tacky to serve a $13 martini in a plastic glass. However, my husband really enjoyed the stuffed salmon, his drink was generously poured and the desserts were both excellent. I had the bacon wrapped scallops, and they were a little too bacon-y for me. Should have chosen something else."

  • "We were a group of four and was seated promptly at our reservation. We ordered a bottle of wine which was quickly left at our table, ( no glasses and was warm.) 15 min later glasses were brought and the very slightly chilled wine ,( in a chiller container,) was poured and orders were taken. Apps & rolls arrived soon & dinner only after reminding we had show tickets. Nobody came to ask about our food and we had to flag down someone to get our dessert and again for the bill. Ordered molten lave cake & another item was brought. No time to complain. We left our payment & tip on the table as nobody came to get it. Barely made it to the show. Should of had plenty of time."

  • "This was my 3rd. trip. Had not been there in about a year. Wonder if they changed chefs? Had an early dinner, stayed for a short time to listen to great jazz group. One of my party had a dietary problem & they were very accommodating. The other ordered the perch piccata which had at least 4 c. cooked jasmine rice! She took home some, ate some, and had them throw out at least 1 c; what a waste. I had the calamari which I enjoyed, however my salmon salad came with wilted mixed greens which could have been caused by the dressing being put on too early or they were not fresh greens. I should have returned it. My Bad! Also we had to ask for our bread basket. If I return it will be for the jazz, drinks & the calamari. Might try brunch?"

  • "We went for the Wednesday all you can eat crab. It did not disappoint. We will be back for it again. It was crowded - obviously others know it is a great dinner."

  • "Service was great. Food was ok, not bad, not outstanding either, I have definitely had much better seafood in my life. They have good deals (half off wine bottles on Tuesdays). But for the price, I expected the food to be a little better."

  • "The food was good and the service was friendly. The salad was amazing and the lobster tail and filet were also very good. We were not crazy about the lobster bisque."

  • "Detroit Seafood Market was only two blocks away from Detroit Opera House so we could easily walk while leaving our car parked in the parking garage. Plus we could make dinner reservations, which many restaurants in downtown Detroit don't allow. We arrived about 20 minutes early and were seated at a booth immediately. The food was great. As a first time visitor, the waiter made me a special drink. Loved the appetizers and crème brulee for dessert as well. Was surprised to see a huge table for 30 laid out next to ours, but even more surprised when four cast members from Book of Mormon took seats at it along with 26 local supporters, including the editors of the local lgbt weekly newspaper. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves."

  • "This was our first time visiting and we are glad we did. Our server was very professional. We love the booths that give you privacy. We started with Oysters Rockefeller because not too many places offer this. It was ok but we tasted more of the topping than the oyster. We both had sea bass although with different sauces and prepared differently. Both were very delicious!!! We will definitely return! Also, the manager was very friendly."

  • "Only got a small spoonful of the mixed vegetables that were very very good and only maybe half a cup of mashed potatoes with my meal. I had the deep-fried lobster tails which again were delicious but they left the tails intact probably for presentation which was really cool but was kind of tricky and messy to get out. Still, plan to go back next year when we going to the Detroit Opera House. Pretty pricey so I really can't afford to go more than once a year. Can't remember the gals name that waited on us but she was phenomenal a great waitress and I told her so,even got a hug! They should hold on to her she's a keeper!"

  • "Food and service were great. Celebrated my birthday. Used Groupon AND waiter did not explain that we were restricted to limited number of entrees and did not offer us a Groupon menu. Received only value paid for $65 and not the $117 shown on Groupon. Will not go back with Groupon again."

  • "Sea Bass was delicious. All you can eat crab on Wed. and Lobster special on Thurs. sounded great. Attentive service. All accompaniments were also well prepared. Better prices than some other "name " places. Can walk or short cab ride from RenCen."

  • "Wanted to have a special night out to celebrate our Grandaughters Birthday and all A's on her report card and we picked the right place. She loves Crab Legs and my entree of the double fried Lobster were perfect for the occassion. Our waitress was named Classy and she certainly was. Couldn't help but over tip her she made the evening fun for us. The only negative was that our entrees were brought out before we could even have our first taste of our soups and salads. A little rushed but nothing to really get upset about. We'll be back again for sure"

  • "My wife and I went there for a late dinner. I made reservations for 10:30. When we were on our way, we received a phone call stating on Fridays and Saturdays they stopped dinner at 10:00 p.m. I wish I knew that BEFORE we left home. We raced to get there and we did make the 10:00 p.m. time. But unfortunately the staff was busy removing tables and re-arranging the place for whatever they do after they stop dinner. This also had a lot of traffic going back and forth to get into the bar and dance area. Very disturbing way to have to enjoy a quiet romantic late night dinner. Then, to top it off, I ordered a Crust infusioned Red Snapper meal. It would have been nicer if the cook had removed the scales BEFORE applying the bread crumb cov."

  • "My wife and I went there for our anniversary and it was more than what we expected! The staff were very friendly and well engaged with each table. Our server gave great recommendations and we appreciated them. The food was perfect and we had to take home the dessert! We will definitely be going back!"

  • "Had Scallops, Sea bass and Salmon. . . all were slimy. Service was good however server assumed we wanted top shelf drinks (which we did) but did not ask beforehand which seemed a little cheesy . . . desert portions small . . . for the $$$ quality was a big disappointment . . . we paid twice the price recently at Joe Muer's and felt 4 times the level of satisfaction"

  • "Its been at least 5 years since I was here last due to poor service and food quality. Did not plan to return ever; however, my husband is a fan of the fried lobster and it was Father's Day so I acquiesced. I was pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious (although the wait time was a little long) and the service was great! Classy was a very good server and knew the menu was able to recommend and her recommendations were on point. Will return."

  • "Loved the look of the restaurant. Did not get made to order waffles, chef had some already set aside, very disappointed by that. Made to order is just that made upon request. Our waitress was nice, but not on top of her game. Had to ask for water several times, just lacked communication with us. Gave her money for the check she took forever to come back I had to stop her and ask for my change from bill. Wait staff needs more customer service training."

  • "This was my first time at the restaurant since the change of management. The food and service was A1, the manager came and introduced himself and sent the bartender over with a Birthday Surprise drink for me. The live jazz playing really set the ambience. The only problem, which is a Detroit Public Safety issue, was the screeching fire alarm that went off for over 15 minutes. Otherwise, once it was turned off the customers cheered and carried on!"

  • "First time dining at the DSM; 7 pm reservation. Food and service were very good. My wife and I had the salmon, and a side salad. The jazz band which was playing was so loud we could not hear each other and we were seated quite a distance from the band. I plan on returning but not on a night when they have entertainment. "
