My table of four loved the tall, airy room (formerly a bank, among other things). The tables are set well apart, the music is good and not too loud, so conversation is easy. For a Friday evening it was not busy and the crowd - such as it was - is very preppy. (Groups of boys in their late teens/early twenties who looked like they'd just stepped out of a Ralph Lauren ad).
What let the experience down was the food: overcooked steak, limp fries, etc. And very expensive for what it is. Which is a shame, because I really liked the concept of the modern supper menu and the dishes on the menu, but the execution was poor.

The food was exceptional - truly the star of the show, as it should have been. The pork belly appetizer lived up to its billing and the entrees were exceptional. Stick toffee pudding was everything it should have been. The only thing that didn't live up to expectations was the truffle mac & cheese - a bit runny, and not as rich as I hoped. Service was great, decor was interesting but not distracting. Well worth the trip.

Was I happily surprised to find Desmond's hidden near Bloomingdales! Desmond's puts an excellently tasty twist on English food. The Banger's & Mash were amazing. As a matter of fact, I think I'll go back tomorrow to have them again. My daughter thought the Duck's Shepherd's Pie was wonderful. I had a creamy, caramel English Toffee pudding and my daughter loved the Eton's Mess. We'll definitely be back, probably a few times this week. I think I'm addicted to the food. The decor was charming!

Desmonds is a hidden treat right across from Bloomingdale's loading dock. The moment you walk in the door, you forget where you are and are transported to a civilized world of martinis and calm. The food is solid and the service superior and very friendly. We will be back.

Really nice comfort food, well prepared, but a disconnect between the general air of the resautuant, the high prices and the simple food.
Unchanging repetitive synthesizer music was too loud and very irritating. Restaurant was half empty on a Saturday night, so apart from the stupid disco music the noise level would have been quiet and relaxing. This is a restaurant that can't decide on it's own identity... Needs help with it's identity crisis!

Food and drinks were excellent. Strongly recommend the Fisherman's pie. Good balance btwn the heaviness of the pie and the lightness of the seafood. Service was attentive but the servers shouldn't be afraid to give their opinions. That said our waiter was knowledgeable and provided good descriptions.
