  • "Although most of the meal was quite enjoyable there was way too much salt on some of the items. I had to send back the zucchini shoestrings since the salt content made them inedible. My sauteed spinach was also too salty but not so for my husband. I like salt but this was over the top. To commend the restaurant though they immediately removed the item from our bill and then gave us $20 in vouchers to use next time."

  • "I've heard great things about this restaurant. I received a restaurant.com gift certificate for my birthday and used it Sunday. The blueberry lemonade is excellent. Jake is great! The flies not so much. The bathroom is located on the second floor which isn't ideal. The service was fast the food wasn't that great. I'd recommend this place only if you have the $25 gift certificate."

  • "I could not give it a five-star rating because we were seating on the top floor which is quasi outdoor and there was dust particles all over the tables, so we cleaned our silverware before using them. We could have asked for new ones but we don't like to bother or servers, after all they are the ones bringing the food. The wine list is exceptional and their cocktails are amazing."

  • "Second visit to Derek's and just as enjoyable as the first visit. The shredded pork shoulder over grits was delicious. The crispy Calamari was perfectly prepared. My son's burger looked amazing (I never got a taste). The menu has something for everyone. We brought our own wine; no corkage fee on Sunday nights, but wine is half price on Sundays if you forget to bring your own. Great dessert menu. Go go go!"

  • "Everytime I dine at Dereks I love it more and more. There food is delicious and the atmosphere is fun and flirty. If you are fortunate to go on a nice evening, dining on the sidewalk in Manayunk is definitely a good time. I recommend French Onion soup and the Salmon (Large Plate). Plus its Restaurant Week every week with the $39 (3 course meal)."

  • "Reserved dining for a party of 10 to celebrate my daughter's graduation. The problems started after we arrived. There were flies in the star which we associated with being near the patio doors (which were closed), the waitress could not explain the menu resulting in the manager having to come over, the bread was delivered with a long black hair across the top, and out meals were not cooked properly. We sent 2 back, I opted not to send mine back; however, it was clear that the chef doesn't know the difference between well done and medium. I had plenty of pink when there shouldn't have been any. While the manager was apologetic, the issues were things that should've been checked before the food left the kitchen. I was very disappointed. "

  • "Service was really bad, didn't hear specials until overhearing a different waitress read her table the specials. Consistently had to wait in a half empty restaurant.. Had bugs in my water. Was charged $15 for a $6 beer(eventually fixed but we had to point it out).. Not going to totally kill the restaurant for one bad server... Food was really good and environment nice...bugs no good. Not sure if I would go back but desert was also delicious."

  • "We didn't realize there was only a Brunch Menu available on Sunday afternoon (2:00pm) Although the selection was somewhat limited, the food was very good. Our server went out of his way to be helpful, the service was prompt. We were a party of 3 and even though we were seated in a small room with 2 large parties the noise level was low. We were able to maintain a conversation throughout the meal without ever feeling we needed to speak loudly. Another successful meal at Derek's! "

  • "I love this spot & will be coming back!!! The creative collaborated dishes mixed with different spices and seasonings got me hooked!! This was a mother's day treat for me and my granny, yet the chef was asked to boil the ribs b4 grilling(no teeth for granny). He personally refused to do so...they lost a star for that. Otherwise, i love everything about this place...."

  • "Didn't have their act together for Mother's Day. It was a warm day and the restaurant upstairs was uncomfortably warm. Too small of a spaced to do a brunch buffet and nothing special on the buffet for $29, quite pricey. The open table website quoted $26 pp but the waiter said it was $29pp, they didn't care when I let them know, "sorry 'bout that". Not impressed at all."

  • "I haven't been to Dereks in over a year. But I decided to bring my mom for mothers day. I was sad to see themenu hadn't changed but it was fine because my mom hadn't eaten there before. I got the arugula/goat cheese salad, which I've had multiple times. It was extremely, extremely vinegary to the point that I should have sent it back considering the degree of vinegar made it hard to swallow, but I did not want to be "that" customer. My mom and I both got the filets, medium rare. We both had to send ours back. They were so raw they jiggled like jello. When we got them back, the meat was put on the wrong plates & one came out cooked MR the other MW/W. The seasoning was way over done, tasted like a mouth of salt/pepper. Service was nice!!"

  • "We tried a new place last Saturday, Derek's in Manayunk. We were happy that we did; the food and experience made it worth the trip and a repeat visit. They always offer a "restaurant week" selection of appetizer, small and large plates but we skipped that and tried the lobster bisque which included chives a crab cake! It was different and good. My mate had the crab cakes while I tried the award winning pork shoulder on sweet corn hominy grits. Both were delicious and worth considering. For dessert, we split the specialty raspberry bread pudding (no raisins, yes!) and it was a nice way to finish. There are a lot of places to consider in Manayunk (as we discovered) and we were glad to discover Derek's."

  • "We booked Derek's for Easter lunch, and was very pleased. Although we arrived prior to the end of brunch,m we were able to order from the regular menu and was delighted by the array of options. We enjoyed the $3 mimosas, mussels, delicious ginger/carrot and lobster bisque soups, and we had the salmon for the entre. We will definitely return, and tell our friends and family that we found a great new place."

  • "The dinner and service was overall fairly nice. However, we found it odd that while plenty of tables were available downstairs when we arrived, that we were seated upstairs. There was a wedding party who was having a dinner that for the majority of it, we were the only patrons in the upper level aside from the party. We felt uncomfortable and thought that they party should have been able to enjoy their dinner without other diners in the room with them. I don't know if I would go back. Perhaps if we had a coupon, however, I felt that the decision to sit us upstairs was odd and I wish we would have spoke up and asked to be moved elsewhere."

  • "I have gone to Derek's at least a half dozen times for dinner and half of those times, the kitchen has been SLOW and the service SLOW, with long gaps between servings with no explanation or apologies. The food and ambience is prety good but the uncertainty as to whether I (we) are hitting a SLOW evening, with other meaning, is difficult to take. It takes the pleasure out of eating at a nice place. I don't want to be rushed but I hate waiting 30 minutes for my next serving."

  • "Food was very good, the salad dressing was a bit overdone for my wife, but I liked it. The fennel was too stringy to eat over the clams, but would have rather had finely chopped fennel franz that were easier to eat. Mashed potatoes were a little dry, but still very tasty. The cocktails were excellent. "
