Diner Reviews
  • "Beautiful night for outdoor dining with delicious fried oysters and a bowl of mussels! Nice wine selection to compliment the seafood. Helpful staff. A great neighborhood restaurant"

  • "Once a favorite restaurant: After being served the evening special... Bouillibaise... that wasn't close to being Bouillibaise I asked after a crouton and rouille. I was condescendingly told there was "no rouille tonight"... and then charged $.50 for a small slice of bread... Cheap shot. I won't be back! Quid pro quo..."

  • "This was my first time here. For the price, it was a nice experience. Nice menu selection, nice bar and wine selection, and nice service."

  • "Great little place tucked away on DeMun. Fantastic oysters, a nice atmosphere with the option of a patio in the warmer seasons, and awesome service. What more could you want?"

  • "great raw Pacific oyster selection, shrimp cocktail, and oyster stew. Cool vibrant atmosphere (but small) across from neighborhood park. Very good service incl at the bar."

  • "The food was excellent. They fly their seafood in fresh every day and every bite was wonderful. We started with a selection of oysters on the half-shell and it was a treat to have west coast oysters. Our problem the evening we were there was the service. The restaurant was woefully understaffed and we were there for 40 minutes before we were even given menus. Shortly after seating we were given an amuse bouche, but given that they knew service was slow they should have given us more than 1 per person. Waters were slow to be refilled. I ordered a Cioppino which is a seafood stew. They did not bring a spoon when they brought out the dish and I asked for some bread to go with it and I was done with my dish by the time I got my bread."

  • "One of the better places for seafood in St. Louis. Waiter was knowledgeable and friendly."

  • "Food was average at best. Some of the combos for plating were not understood and did not work. If the meal was $50 I would have felt different, but at $120, not even close. Server started strong and by the end of the meal completely forgot about us and we had to flag him down just to get a check."

  • "Our first experience at the Demun Oyster Bar was a real pleasure. The stuffed oysters were marvelous. The Bay Scallops au gratin were very good but it turned out the dish had bacon which was not disclosed on the menu and I am allergic to. Our lovely server, Mel, immediately put in an order for two Sea Scallops which arrived perfectly grilled, tender and delicious with a plum sauce. We also had a creamed spinach and finished the meal with Beignet fingers and three dipping sauces which was a stand out. The service was impeccible and the busy Saturday night made for a lively atmosphere. We will go again soon."

  • "Second time here. Cute place. oysters great! Fresh fish special very good, although this time the tile fish was a touch underdone and my date's was way too salty (and she likes lots of salt). Service this time was on the slow side. I will go back because I love the oysters and the fish specials are usually unique and tasty. Hope we hit a mediocre night is all."

  • "My wife and I went to DeMun OB last Sunday at 1130 because we were driving over from Edwardsville to a 2 o'clock matinee of "Other Desert Cities" at the Rep and I couldn't come up with many eating choices near the theatre. We started with a great bottle of Bertrand rose cremant and had two of each oyster available and then selected four more of one type and two more of another. The waiter, Logan, was knowledgeable and helpful. Then my wife had the mussels and clams mix and I could not resist the crabcake eggs Benedict dish on a Sunday morning. Both dishes were really tasty, and we totally enjoyed our two-hour meal. We will be going there again before we go to see "Noises Off!" in April, I'd wager."

  • "Consistently delicious food and wonderful service. We can always count on the Demun Oyster Bar to provide the perfect evening out when entertaining friends or having a nice quiet dinner to ourselves!."

  • "Gave 4 stars on food, but only because the spinach salad was so salty--they made a new batch of the dressing and it was better, especially when getting all of the components in one bite (berries evened out the salt, and the very mmmmm fried oyster mushrooms were great--I wished I had a bowl of them). Server was great, very knowledgeable, and he even topped off our wine glasses when our dinners took a bit too long to get out to us (it was a bit of a stretch between the soup/salad and the dinners). Also, we ended up getting there well before our reservation, but they had our table ready and waiting for us, despite a near-full house. Always love the DeMun area, too."

  • "Having been here once before for oysters and drinks I knew that the service was outstanding how're be this time we ordered good off the menu and it was superb. One of the few places in St. Louis that you can find the Manhattan clam chowder (red sauce) and they do it right! The salt baked fish was amazing and the benigts were an excellent way to finish out the evening."

  • "DeMun Oyster Bar went above & beyond to exceed my first expectation! It's a great restaurant for couples and small groups; the food is exquisite & it's a beautifully designed building! I will definitely be returning for their superior customer service!"

  • "small neighborhood bar / restaurant / oyster bar. food is excellent; this was our second time there. Also great in summer months with outside seating."

  • "Demun Oyster Bar has an old world feel with a hip new attitude. Cozy on cold winter nights, and fabulous outdoor/sidewalk dining in the summer! The food is very good... Great fresh seafood and nice array of other menu items. Has a strong bar menu too. My favorite part is the building and the decor, old fashioned light fixtures, semi-circle bar and interior brick walls... such a great atmosphere! Great spot to meet an old friend and catch up."

  • "It's all wonderful here. It's cozy, a bit decadent, and easy to adore. You can tell a lot of love goes into the food and the specialty cocktails. It's just a great place to go when you want to treat yourself to something special."

  • "The drinks are outstanding, the food is delicious and the service is great. They always have daily items that are really interesting g and tasty. The bartenders will make you whatever kind of drink that you want - whether it's a 'real' drink or if you made it up. We like to sit at the bar and eat but they have patio seating as well as tables inside where you can look out the floor to ceiling windows. The best time to go is late lunch or early dinner."

  • "I enjoyed the restaurant and meal but let's be clear, this place hits its sweetspot in summer. The interior is a cramped and is drafty when it's cold out. But when its warm it opens up to a very nice place for good food and outdoor/open wall (?) dining."

  • "My second time in last few weeks. First with my wife for a romantic dinner then with my daughter for a Dad & daughter outing. Wonderful food and service. Both visits Lee served us. Simply outstanding service! We will make Demun OB a regular."

  • "Our waiter is extremely well versed in the difference between oysters and even knows the specific bays they are raised in and when the best times for them to be harvested. His recommendations were spot on though we tried others just to cover the bases. That was a mistake as his recos were the best by far. Good wine by the glass and if oysters aren't your thing, don't worry. There are plenty of other great tasting options on the menu. The price of oysters adds up in a hurry so be careful. Our bill got out of hand very quickly...but it was worth it."

  • "We were pleasantly impressed by this small restaurant in Clayton! I am a seafood lover and I truly enjoyed all the seafood dishes. I especially loved their fresh oysters and pan seared scallops!"

  • "Overall, I was just not impressed with the Demun Oyster Bar at all. The service was mediocre. The food was way overpriced for the quality & quantity that you received. I was contemplating ordering their collassal shrimp that is priced $3.75 per shrimp and I couldn't decide how many pieces to get. I commented to our server that if they truly are collassal then 4 should be fine to accompany my salad. She didn't say anything and I know why. There is no way they should be considered collassal. They were the same size as the medium shrimp that I buy from the seafood counter at the grocery story. Good flavor but not as advertised. My husband ordered their Lavender cocktail which only took about 4 sips and it was gone - and it was $10."
