  • "Demera is one of our 'go-to' neighborhood restaurants - excellent food, lively atmosphere. Their vegetarian menu is extensive - so there is something for everyone."

  • "I really liked the food here, especially the sambussa platter. The beef dish I ordered tasted really good, but I ordered it spicy and it wasn't spicy at all. However, all the food as a whole was really tasty."

  • "This was my first experience with Ethiopian food and it was amazing! For such amazing food, this place is reasonably priced."

  • "We had never had Ethiopian cuisine and from the moment we entered, they were beyond generous and helpful, despite it being a busy Saturday night. We enjoyed the Spinach Sambussa (spelling?) and Lentil Sambussa for appetizers. They were accompanied by this amazing sweet/spicy sauce. You could tell they were made with love. For our entrees, we shared 6 entrees, including 3 vegetarian options and 3 meat options: -Split pea -Lentils (spicy and delicious) -Collard Greens -Beef tenderloin -Lamb -Beef stew Everything was so wonderful. Our server was "Edam" (I am sorry I don't recall the spelling) but she was AMAZING!!! I cannot recommend this place enough. I would give it 10 stars if I could and I will DEFINITELY be back. Thank you Demera!!!"

  • "I was in town and picked this spot for a dinner for 12 - my brothers and sisters and assorted spouses/ kids. The service was spot on -- just enough but not intrusive. The food was very good -- we will definitely be back."

  • "Making a reservation was helpful cuz the place was packed when me & my girlfriend arrived. Service was slow but friendly. Our waiter was pretty helpful with the menu & suggestions. We ordered the Appetizer Messob. It was awesome, probably the best part of our meal. For our main course, we ordered the Demera Messob. All the veggie items were good. My girlfriend & I both liked the lamb entree over the chicken & beef. As for the portions, I would say they were decent. We ended up not finishing it all though. The ambiance & the location of Demera is great. I am not sure how busy it gets at other times but if you wanna sample authentic Ethiopian food, give Demera a try. Just go with an open mind, a healthy appetite & enjoy the experience !!! :)"

  • "My wife and I needed a place to eat before seeing a show at a nearby theater. We found Demera online and decided to try it. Very happy we did. We got the vegetarian sampler plate (I forget the Ethiopian name for it, sorry) and it was very good. The spicy dishes were quite spicy, so take that into account when ordering. I could have used a little more frequent water glass refills, and the potato chunks in the potato dishes were a little large to eat with injera, but other than that I really have nothing to complain about. The restaurant is clean and well-lit and the waitstaff were cheerful and helpful. We'll definitely be going back when we are in the neighborhood."

  • "Great food, and the price is just right. The 'dejj' honey wine is not to miss, but unfortunately the service is. Our server was very polite and attentive.......when he came to our table. It seemed that he was the only server on shift, for 10-15 tables. Other than that, this was not my first time at the restaurant, and the food never ceases to impress. They also have an ever-improving wine/beer list. Ethiopian done right!"

  • "Adequate restaurant. Took 15 minutes to get first drinks. 10 minutes of that was the preparation. Food was as would be expected. Servers were nice."

  • "I've been going here for about two years and it was never really busy until it was Michelin rated. Now it's full on the weekends. The food is still great, although some of the waitresses seemed confused when we asked them to tell is what each of our orders were."

  • "We did not enjoy our dining experience. First, there was no one front of house to greet us and check us in until one of the servers came by. After being seated it was 20 minutes of drinking water before the same server came by to apologize. He explained how it wasn't his section but noticed that no one had come by to take care of us. He took our drinks, food order and said he would send the regular server. Our appetizer messob came out and was very good but there were no drinks. The regular server came by and apologized and stated she was confused. The other server had to bring our drinks. I had the Ye Beg Wot which was advertised as spicy. I couldn't taste spice or the lamb because the dish was so drenched in oil. Bad Ethiopian experience."

  • "Demera serves authentic, delicious Ethiopian food. This was a total gem! The food was amazing with fast service, great selection and a good ambiance. I would definitely go back to this restaurant and recommend it to my friends. When you want a delicious night out come to this place to try something different. Great for when you want to experience a whole new cuisine!"

  • "We were at Demera for a small celebration with some newlyweds, and we all had a great time. The "no utensils" vibe is fun and different, and the food at Demera is delicious. I can't get enough of that spongy bread---forget what it's called---and it's perfect for scooping up the different meats and veggies. We ordered a sampler for two, and the quantity was just right for us. The management allowed us to bring in our own champagne even though they serve alcohol themselves ($8 corkage fee). We aren't the only ones who think Demera is a neighborhood jewel….The restaurant was packed by the time we left on Saturday night."

  • "First experience with Ethiopian cuisine. Surprised that they can do basically the whole menu gluten free! We will definitely return with my son who refuses to use utensils- he will feel right at home!"

  • "I introduced my significant other to Demera this past week in attempt to get him to try good food he's not used to eating. I have been to Demera before and enjoyed it just as much this time. The atmosphere is very warm and the food is unique in itself. We got the messob plate, which requires you to eat small, tasty vegetable/meat dishes with your hands using pieces tortilla-like flatbread. It's a fun way to dine, let's you expand your tastes, and, for my significant other (a VERY picky eater), adds Demera's Ethiopian food to the list of "something I'd eat again." Well done, Demera!"

  • "This is a great place to bring a big group to try new and exotic flavors. Friends who were nervous of spice were reordering some of the spiciest items on the menu, definitely a blast."

  • "It was my first time eating Ethiopian food....and I don't think it will be the last! Great food and service overall. I just wish the 'messob' for one person (which I ordered) was a bit smaller but that's just me."
    Dined on 2/8/2014
  • "If you haven't had Ethiopian before, this restaurant is a great way to get started. There are helpful explanations of each item that match up to their corresponding number. The serving for 2 is also very generous."

  • "The food was good and the people were nice... the foundation for a quality dining experience We waited a long time to be served, the lights are WAY to bright, and the service was not attentive enough. I think some re-training on what a great customer experience is would be in order and maybe tweak the decor/lighting so it does not feel like a cafeteria."

  • "The server did not give us the restaurant week menu...we had to ask for it after eaves dropping. To make matters worse, he pushed us out of our table and said that he had another party to fill the table after we received the check."

  • "Very delicious food at a great price. We went with the Messob, the traditional shared food dining experience. There were veggies and meats served on a platter that you all dig into. Something you should know is that instead of using utensils, Ethiopians use a sponge like sourdough flat bread called injera, to scoop up their food with their hands. So it's not really a first date kind of place - more for going with people know. If you like Indian food, you'll probably like these flavors - similar spices."

  • "We did the Restaurant Week menu and it was so cheap! The food was good. I was afraid it wouldn't fill us up when they first brought it out, but it did! Something different to try. I would go back for sure!"

  • "I went to this restaurant as a Restaurant Week adventure and it was a great find! The service was very good and the food was able to suit myself and my vegetarian guests. There was something for everyone and we really enjoyed eating with our hands."

  • "My cousin was in from California and requested we dine here from pix I'd posted to FB. She enjoyed the Honey Wine and I had water. The wine wasn't as sweet as she's had in the past. Other than that we enjoyed our food. We chose the 3 meat, 3 vegetarian Messob. I didn't care for the collard greens but Noah immediately substitued them with spinach. The spinach sambusa was awesome to start the meal. They adjusted the heat for us as it was a chilly night. Simply a great place to enjoy both vegetarian as well as meat lovers dishes. They'll even serve your vegetarian dishes on a separate platter if you'd prefer. Happy and full!"

  • "I love this restaurant, and regularly drive 30 minutes to go here for dinner. Their food is excellent, and definitely the best in Uptown. It has a much nicer environment than the other Ethiopian places - more like a nice Italian restaurant but with Ethiopian decorations, instead of the cheap furniture and lack of decorations at the other places."

  • "We went as a group of 9, and we were amazed at how well they accommodated us. We felt like we were in our own private space, we could all hear each other, and excellent, seemingly effortless service made for a great dining experience. The food is some of the best Ethiopian food we've eaten anywhere. We dined family style with one vegetarian platter and one half meat, half vegetable. We also ordered a few vegetarian appetizers, and they were excellent. This would be a great choice for anyone interested in trying Ethiopian food or for a group looking for a comfortable, welcoming space to be together."
