  • Spent our fifth anniversary

Spent our fifth anniversary here and we were treated very well. It was a quiet night as Hurricane Sandy was just off shore. However, the wait staff, was awesome and the food was a culinary carnival of flavors. I would highly recommend this remarkable restaurant.

    Dined on 9/7/2012
Fantastic in all aspects! The restaurant was pretty quiet when we arrived so we were concerned that maybe the small crowd was an indication that quality had waned recently. Not so! Our service was exceptional and the food was creative, fresh, full of flavor and beautifully presented. We started with the exotic mushroom mac & cheese - outstanding! The creatively-named and presented caesar salad that followed was far more than a standard salad, and the pink snapper dish was beautiful and absolutely delicious. Our waitress knew and understood the wine list and may our dinner a joy. Perfect experience!

The restaurant was set in a beautiful old building with exposed brick and funky art on the walls. The food was delicious and inventive. The restaurant was quite large, though, and as a result was both noisy and a bit musty from beach traffic. We had steak tartare (yummy) and mac 'n cheese (good but the noodles--ditalli--made it a bit unwieldy to eat). For our entrees we had low country osso bucco and paella which was fabulous. The osso bucco was a bit dry, though. For dessert we shared a creme brulee cheesecake which was outstanding.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2011

I had heard nothing but good reviews about this resturant but my first visit was not great. When we arrived the resturant was less than half full. I told the hostess informed me that not all of the reservations made on here were recieved by them.. Which makes mes wonder how Deluxe wong diner's choice award from Open Table. While the experience was not horrible, it was nothing out of the ordinary. The food was fair but it was the service was lacking. It took 4 times to get a refill on my sweet tea. And at 2 dollars, I would have liked more than one refill. Perhaps it was just an off day. I will most likely give Deluxe another try but there are plenty of other resturants in Wilmington that much good food with good service.

Frequent past 7 years. Was favorite restaurant in Wilmington, until recently. Not sure what changed, but past 3 visits(all in 2012)have been disappointing on many levels. The service staff inexperienced, inattentive and impersonal. The food was very disappointing.IE, this past Sat.were only ~6 tables with guest at 8pm when seated. Not busy at all.We waited ~7 minutes before greeted by server. We were told the kitchen was out of grouper and the charcuterie AFTER ordering our meals. So we decided to play it safe, get a few appetizers before committing to dinner. We ordered calamari and cheese plate.Calamari was all fried breading, overcooked.Cheese plate was delivered without naming of cheeses, tacky orange/sberry garnish. We left hungry, and ate elsewhere

We went with a group of 5 on a busy Saturday night. Service got off to a slow start, but then the pacing was fine. Food excellent and we were all too full for dessert. Salmon and steaks were excellent. One drawback was the room has hard surfaces and the noise was extremely high, making conversation difficult. We had a boisterous group next to us, but even when they were quiet, it was loud from the other diners.

I booked a reservation on Open Table for Sunday brunch for 8 people for Mother's Day. When I arrived at Deluxe for my reservation time, the hostess could not find our reservation and refused to honor it saying they weren't taking Open Table reservations. We waited at the bar with my 80 year old grandmother and my 3 year old daughter for over an hour while all reservations NOT made through Open Table were sat immediately. Once we finally sat down, everyone in my party was starving, and then our food took over 45 minutes to come out. The waiter was busy and forgot some of our drinks as well. The food was good, but the whole experience ruined my Mother's Day brunch with my family.

The Food at Deluxe was top notch. My girlfriend and I went there for our 1 year anniversary and it was delicious. despite having two employees call out that night, the staff was attentive and made sure our glasses were never empty and had good wine suggestions. Deluxe is pricey, and has a "casual" atmosphere as opposed to a romantic one, but the food is still very good and the service is excellent. definitely worth it for a special occasion.

Brunch was a great way to try this restaurant for the first time. Menu was broad with a good range of options appropriate for the time of day. Prices were more than reasonable. There was live music which could have made conversation difficult for the front tables. Luckily we were able to get a table in the back. Food was good and well presented but took a bit long to be served even though we ate close to the end of the time and the restaurant was only about half full.

We had some great dishes and some okay dishes. Service was quite slow. All in all, we would probably try someplace else next time we are in Wilmington. Cinnamon Bun French Toast was outstanding and the highlight of the meal. Blueberry-Cornmeal Pancakes were quite good. Omelet was made with too much egg to filling ratio. Eggs were super fluffy, but there was only a small layer of vegetables inside. We constantly had to flag down the waiter or host to refill water. It was a good experience, but not one we would go running back to go to again.

As usual the Deluxe is a fine place to eat - though only for special occasions or with guests from out of town (it is a bit pricy). Our recent visit (party of 4) had an easy reservation (through Open Table). It was a rare night at the Deluxe as there were only 3 other couples there. A slow night, but the food was good, hot and properly done. Service (Hank) was highly professional and well versed in the offerings from food to wine. Still one of the best restaurants in Wilmington.

I like Deluxe very much and we had a good experience overall. The service was not as great this time as I'm used to; although the staff was very pleasant, we had to wait longer than expected for almost everything. That said, it was well worth it and the food was very good. We were in a relaxed mood and in no hurry, so it worked out fine for us. I do recommend checking it out for a fancy downtown meal, especially if you like wine - their list is exceptional.

We were there latish on a rainy night so may have not gotten full benefit of the ambiance. I guess we were placed in the back for privacy, but it wasn't the nicest area of the restaurant. The waiter was a bit overbearing; his presence was definitely felt and frequently. The food was good, not outstanding. The mushroom ravioli appetizer was the best. The soup was average, as was the crab salad. My partner had steak tartar which he enjoyed and some delicious fish. I would try it again, but I don't think it lived up to its hype.

The food here is always outstanding. There are always vegetarian options on the menu. They use local produce and food products as much as possible. The waiters are probably the best in Wilmington. They are attentive, not too chatty, but answer any question you may have about the wine list, menu items or the way the item is prepared. We've never had a bad meal here and it is usually quiet. Great place for a special occasion.

All of the food was just very very good. The wine list compares to what we are used to seeing back in Washington DC, Philly or NYC. If you can't find a bottle here that you like, you'll need to move on to Raleigh or down to Charleston. Service was attentive, but not overdone. The deserts were outstanding. We don't usually do desert, but it was our anniversary, so we went with it. Wine was so good I went and purchased a few bottles of it the next day(Don Melchior). Not something I'm prone to do, but it was great. One of the top places in Wilmington in our opinion, but doesn't get the notice others do. Could it be the lack of $$$ spent advertising leads to no notice???

We eat at Deluxe about 2 or 3 times a year, primarily as it is a bit expensive but good for special occasions and events. As usual the food was well made and tasty, although my partners meal could have been a bit warmer (busy time in kitchen, but tuna cools far too quickly to let it sit about without immediately serving it). We made reservations through OpenTable and were quickly seated (even though it was New Years Eve) and our server was knowledgeable and efficient. Our previous time at Deluxe required a very long wait to be seated and we did not get served until nearly 10 PM (with an 8 PM reservation), so we reserved an earlier time and did not experience the long delay that most of the other diners did who reserved tables after 8 PM.
