A word from Delmonico's
Delmonico's began as the first restaurant in the United States and has had a profound impact on American dining tradition. Our setting is where nearly two centuries of notable poets, affluent socialites, celebrities and presidents have celebrated in the splendor that is Delmonico's. Delmonico's welcomes Executive Chef Bill Oliva our kitchen. While preserving the classic dishes such as Lobster Newburg, Delmonico's Steak and Baked Alaska, Bill brings a level of culinary sophistication to Delmonico's with his addition of creative seafood offerings and other inventive dishes. Diner Reviews
  • "the restaurant was half empty, staff stading around but had to wait to acually order. Probabelly we didn't look like 21 and that's why no one asked us if we care for wine or even want to see the menue... however the food was very good, what you should expect given the prices..."

  • "Our party of 6 was greeted by a friendly host and sitted promptly. We had visited the WTC that afternoon and felt Delmonicos was a fitting tribute to all that is great with NYC. Our waiter was attentive, polite with some NY humor thrown in. The steaks are excellent and we celebrated two birthdays with the world famous Baked Alaska. Highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "Lamp was great. Lobster was too tough, avoid one. Good service. In a great building. Atmosphere was more casual than I expected. (no dress code when we were there) Our waiter was great but another waiter was alright."

  • "Delicious, fresh, gracious and grand. Although very pricey, Delmonico's will deliver a truly fine dining experience. Gentlemen unobtrusively cater to you in a peaceful, refined yet relaxed, dining room from another era. The food, reminiscent of that era, is clearly updated for a more sophisticated palate. The burratta salad was delicate, the dressing balanced to bring out subtle flavors of roasted peaches, arugula and burratta cheese. The melt in your mouth filet mignon was perfectly seared and simply seasoned with a dash of coarsely ground salt. The carrots, a surprising favorite, were crisp and surrounded by a delightful assortment of vegetables. Be sure to treat yourself to the baked Akaska, a fanciful finish to a dreamlike meal."

  • "From the manager, to the servers, to the bartenders....doesn't get much better than this. You are 'family' after the first visit!"

  • "Delmonico's delivers on its promise to be one of New York's premier culinary destinations. If you're in the mood for a to-die-for steak, there's no better place to go."

  • "Our reservation was made based on a segment and recommendation on The View. I ordered the lobster newburg as I love lobster and it is a house specialty. It arrived only slightly warm, almost cold. I sent it back! This is the first time that I have ever had to do this in over 60 years of dining out around the world. Other guests received the same entree on hot plates before mine was finally returned on a hot plate. The Delmonico steak had more fat than expected! Some of the rolls were very hard while others were fine. The Delmonico potatoes were excellent; and the baked Alaska was quite good. The waiter tried his best, but it was hard to make up for such a poor start to the meal."

  • "I can honestly say that in all my many years this one one of -- if not the best meal I ever had. I took my husband to Delmonico's to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. I had made the reservation via OpenTable and noted the special occasion. They greeted us warmly and genuinely (we're a same-sex couple) and remembered it was our anniversary. I have never noticed how much temperature plays an important role in taste -- it was perfect. Every bite was a symphony -- I don't know how else to describe it. GREAT food, excellent service, beautiful restaurant. Worth every penny."

  • "Food was as expected. Steak portions humongous. Old time atmosphere with older crowd. Waiters all very stand-offish and not welcoming. The only reason we went was because we got a gift certificate."

  • "While the service was excellent and the restaurant beautiful, though a bit loud, the food was disappointing. The most disappointing was the Delmonico's steak, of which we ordered three. Each one was tough and chewy and almost impossible to cut especially since they give you a butter knife rather than steak knife. Appetizers (crab cake; shrimp risotto, bacon, and foie gras) were ok; nothing special. Sides were good; I like the corn and creamed spinach. Desserts were excellent (baked Alaska; cheesecake; and mango tart). Love the venue and service so much that I wish the food was better."

  • "As a partly Dutchman and Scot: good price-quality ratio. Historic environment, with an excellent ambiance, good service."

  • "My overall review score is heavily weighted towards our satisfaction with the food. This was my first visit to Delmonico's. Decided to try their specialties: Delmonico Steak, and Lobster Thermidor. Steak had good flavor and was tender. I've had equal or better steaks at other restaurants. Garlic mashed potatoes were average. Caesar salad was a real disappointment. The poached egg on top was unique but did not save a very bland salad. Croutons seemed store-bought. My son stated his crabcake was very good. However, the lobster tail in his Lobster Thermidor was tough. In summary, the food here seems to be hit and miss depending on what you order. At this price point, all the items should be excellent. Better options are available in NYC."

  • "The standard Delmo's fare. I like this restaurant for business meetings; because tables are spaced to allow private conversations. I preferred it when there was more variety on the lunch menu but of course most guests will go for the classic Delmonico's steak. Though I can only handle one course at this palce if I take the steak. I don't believe the standard is quite as good as in years gone by, I'm detecting over-salting in most dishes now. Wine list is legendary for those with enough bucks to go there. The service is first class."

  • "Prices are, what they are -- but you pay for what you get in NYC, and this is a NYC oldtime GEMSTONE! I love love love Delmonico. Their steak is too die for, their salads and appetizers are inventive, and their desserts sublime. I opted for a glass of house Cab, which was not "liquid gold" which is what I would have preferred, but the bottle list was a bit pricey when your guest is not drinking the same as you...... Still will go back... for that OLD WORLD NYC CHARM AT IT'S BEST!!"

  • "I heard that Wall Streeters have come to prefer this spot. Maybe lunch is better, but for dinner, I would pass. My Delmonico steak was just OK. Carb cake was pretty good but a bit bland. Overall, did not meet my expectation considering the prices."

  • "I have eaten here a few times with my husband and the staff was always attentive. This time I went with my daughter and I felt the waiter was more interested in the tables with couples or men. He did not ask if we wanted to hear the specials. I had to ask to have our wine poured and he rarely came by to see if we needed anything."

  • "Its a good place but average for a NYC steakhouse. Its more of the history that drives you there and the curiosity. Not worth $50 for the filet. Too much fat around it. $8 for fries and some Hellman's spicy mayo?"

  • "Enjoyed a fabulous meal at Delmonico's and understand how they've survived for so long. Service was outstanding and interior decor was gorgeous while showcasing the historical significance of this restaurant as the oldest fine dining establishment in the US. Definitely a bucket list restaurant that did not disappoint. "

  • "Even of the Delmonico steak was not tender, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to my exact specification. Even if the brussels sprout accompaniment was not well thought out (sautéed with onions and bacon bits). Or the banana gelato brings a creamy satisfaction to the Baked Alaska finish. It is worth going to this iconic restaurant steeped in American culinary history. Prompt and courteous service accompanied my experience here."

  • "We went here for a special 50th birthday dinner, and wasn't disappointed. The wait staff was helpful, friendly, and charming, and the food was amazing. The ambiance is warm and cozy, and oozed gilded age charm. The biggest surprise of the evening wasn't the unexpected perfection of non-greasy onion rings appetizer(?) nor the soon-to-be-an-annual-birthday-tradition Baked Alaska; but the bill, which came to about 2/3s of what we anticipated for the quality of the over-all experience. We anticipated having a luxurious dining experience, but we never thought we'd consider it a bargain! We will definitely be back, and we won't wait for something as dramatic as a golden birthday, either."

  • "Took my family there for a Saturday evening meal we had 5 30 reservations and called saying we were running about 10 minutes late, no problem. We all ordered the filet mignonette which was a good size and cooked perfectly to each ones specifications. The cream spinach and garlic mashed were wonderful side dishes as was the grilled asparagus. The dessert was a creation in itself, very light and flavorful. About 100 dollars a person covered the bill. Looking forward to my next visit"

  • "I worked in Manhattan for over twenty years and going to Delmonico's was always a treat. At this last visit, the food was as good as ever and the room is an experience in itself. The area that disappointed me was the service. They have always had a very nice balance between meeting your needs and not being overbearing or "in your face". This night I had to ask for service on three occasions - not my past experience and not what I expected."

  • "This is not a review. I would only say that Delmonico's is a required experience for any one who loves great 19th century American literary fiction. If you have been enthralled by Edith Wharton, Henry James and their likes, this is the place to go at least once in a lifetime. I look forward to visit the bar & grill."

  • "Delmonico's is pricey but worth it. I went with my parents after being sworn-in as an attorney, and it was the perfect ending to a wonderful day. Eating in Delmonico's felt like taking part in "Old New York." I would suggest getting the specials as given by the waiter -my parents did and their meals were superb (vegetable minestrone to start and the tomahawk steak for two as a main course). I stuck with filet mignon and it was not as good as I've had at other establishments (burned and crispy on the outside when I ordered it medium), but it was still good. We only ordered the Delmonico Potatoes as a side and they were the perfect compliment to steak. The desserts were great all around (apple cheesecake for the parents, baked alaska for me)"

  • "My husband and I wanted to eat here because of Delmonico's history and excellent reviews. We went for the classics. Hubby had the Delmonico and I had the Lobster Newberg. We shared the Baked Alaska. I have to say, the food was fresh, plentiful, and delicious. We also had the red & yellow tomato appetizer, the garlic whipped potatoes, and the roasted cauliflower. Everything was scrumptious. The bread basket - awesome. The service, exceptional. No wonder this restaurant has been in business so long. They know how to treat their customers! Highly recommended!"
